I think out of the thousands of tacos they sell weekly.. they would invest in some upgrades. Keep the place clean and visually appealing. Hey! Me again. I don't get to enjoy these delicious tacos enough but I had some today and yet again, the food does not disappoint. Now let's get something cleared up. Peeples have been there for so long that everyone knows the protocol. I'm going to give you some tips on how to make the most out of your taco experience. 1) Scout out a parking spot. You can park right in front or across the street for free. It's best if you have someone else drive and they just pull up and you jump out to get in the door before 10 other people beat you to it. Even better, call your order in. 2) Once you enter said establishment, do not assume any order status from the patrons. The custom is to walk in and say "has everyone put in their order?" Once you get that figured out, take your place in line. (Same goes for call ins-you still gotta get in line.) 3) The menu is simple and they actually have a new one now so it's even simpler. Get your order together in your head. 4) It's Cash Only! There is now an ATM inside but really, just bring your cash. 5) Keep your receipt! There is a tiny little number at the bottom of your receipt. That's the number they will call. Or of you called in your order in advance (smart) they will call out your name. Your receipt is also how you will get your food so don't lose it! 6) Once your number is called, step up to the pick up window and put your receipt inside the revolving pickup window. It is considered bad manners to crowd the pick up window. Just listen for your number or name. 7) Once you get your food, which will be perfectly packed up and paper bagged....leave. It's ok to make small talk with the patrons and others but people want to hear their order number so use your inside voices. Also crazy people love Peeples too, they get hungry just like the rest of us. So you may run across some interesting characters every now and then. Most like these are the people who crowd the pick up window because everyone else knows better. Enjoy!!! read more

"Shit, dude! We're goin' to Peeple's to get us some tacos! I'm drivin'." Peeple's tacos are not prepared Mexican style like tacos from e.g., El Farol or Atotonilco. Peeple's proudly serves up awesomely greasy heart-attack ground beef tacos! Soooo tasty joy!!! It is the perfect meal to safely line your stomach either before or after a night of hard drinking. You'll experience Four Happiness from eating one or five of them! You WILL WAIT for your food! Oh, you bet you will! The large African-American women who work there behind the bulletproof glass pick up the pace for NO ONE!!! One patron waiting for his food banged on the glass "HURRY UP WITH MY FOOD! Years ago, I was walking my dog down an alley, this alley divided Gladys and Vanburen at Pulaski rd, As I approached the end if the alley, my Dog jerked lose, snatching the leash out of my hand, my dog then ran towards a tall wooded gate, Ive never seen my dog jump a gate that tall, but she managed to get over that gate, I then ran towards that gate, reached over and unlatched the gate, I walked into the back yard, trying to get my dog to come out, that's when I saw what motivated my dog Roxanne to get over that tall gate, it was a barrel filled to the top with cat skins, head still on, unbelievable... the carcasses were all the same tri-color, which was: black, brown and white....to this day, I remember that was the back yard of the old Peeples Tacos over on Pulaski Rd......ok read more

This place is a prime example of why you can't support places like this. I went in there today and there were bugs flying all over the waiting area. Complained to the ladies behind the glass, and they said there was nothing they coups do because the door was being opened. Got home showered immediately because those bugs were all over me. My order was completely incorrect. I ordered delux tacos and received regular tacos with no onions or tomatoes. they charged me for delux, Who want this dry sh*t. I tried to call, no answer. These tacos are the best on the WestSide of Chicago!!!! Peeples has been in business many, many, years, ever since I was a kid, I'm in my 40s now. They used to have a place on Pulaski and VanBuren before they moved the location to Chicago Ave and Austin. Their tacos are famous because they don't follow a traditional Mexican rule for making them, they're more like homemade ones that you'd add your own special touch to. What REALLY makes these tacos stand out is the sauce and the tortilla bread they use, combined with the cheese (yeah, you gotta get that cheese!!). It's all of this, with added touch of the cooking oil and the ground beef, all mixed together, that gives these tacos such a distinctly unique taste, like no other. If you love hot food, I recommend ordering the hot ones with cheese, they taste 10 times better than the mild ones, IMHO!! They really lay the long cut jalapeno peppers, carrots and onions on there, along with that FABULOUS sauce!! :) True, the service is a bit slow from time to time, but if you go early morning, afternoon, or late night, you'll avoid the wait time. Peeples truly does have the BEST tasting tacos you could ever try, this is honestly why they have been in business so long.
