This is by far the best coffee place in the area. If you like ice coffee, their's is the best. The staff are incredibly friendly and there are seats outside to sit and watch the people in the park. I love this lil Peet's coffee shop. I've never had the privilege of living near a Peet's. Their wonderful blends came into my life through my college roommate, who was originally from Northern California. Though we lived in Philly, far from any Peet's, she suggested we order their grounds online to satisfy our appetite for coffee. And so we did, for two years, and drank it out of Peet's cups. Then I moved to New York and lived a Peet's-less existence for a year. When I came up to Harvard Square for the weekend, I knew the one stop I had to make: Peet's, of course! I walked in probably looking disoriented and a tad confused. There was tea, and whole beans, and so many blends, and delicious aromas wafting about. A friendly fellow named Mike asked if he could help. I said I wanted coffee, bags of it, but I didn't see them out anywhere. I must not be used to quality, because Mike just conjured up whatever I wanted, and said they'd grind it on the spot. "What kind of coffee are you going to make?", "I was going to use a French press". Wow, that actually makes a difference to these people! Eventually I happily left with two bags of freshly ground coffee: one Garuda and one Sumatra. Mike offered a free cup of coffee to go, which I gladly accepted. It tasted strong, rich, and amazing, not just because it was free (yay) but because it was the blend of the month: Las Hermanas. And I might have to go back and pick up a bag of that too. read more

Finally something besides Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts. Today was my first day coming here and I love it; visiting all the way from Michigan. Such a nice location, in Harvard Square. A vanilla latte is my usual order from every coffee shop to test which is my favorite. This was the first place ever that the barista actually asked me what kind of milk I wanted, whereas in other places, they just give me their usual. So, I asked for soymilk. Delicious! read more

I've already filled this out once and yelp bonked so I'll keep it short. I really like Peet's in general because they don't over-roast (pronounced: burn) their espresso beans. The flavor comes out fairly dark, but not overly so. This Peet's has free wifi and good baked goods. The service is very good here too. read more

The green tea Freddo was great. It's a creamy drink kind of like a frappuccino. But the green tea Freddo is delicious without being overly sweet. I was looking for a light, refreshing, cold, creamy drink that didn't pack on the calories or sugar, and this did it. I asked for no whipped cream. It came thick enough that you'd be better off eating it with a spoon. Though one person I was with got the Berry Pomegranate tea Freddo. It was actually pretty different. It was much thinner and didn't have any milk in it. I think it was juice based, while the green tea one was milk based. read more

This place gives you great pots of tea. Whole pots of tea that you can put next to you and get your caffeine rush for hours. I just love it here. Also you are in the middle of harvard square and what is not to love about that? The only set back is that this place is the hottest place in town. Really fantastic coffee, but the service is excruciatingly slow. A few times I went to get coffee right before class or on my way someplace where I had to catch the T and, after waiting patiently for about 10 min, had to kindly remind the baristas if they could hurry up or I would miss my appointment. They looked at me strange, as if how dare I disrupt their artful reinterpretation of a Red-Eye (what I usually order) with such rude request. I give it a 4 instead of 5 because their almond milk is sweetened and I wish it weren't, but the coffee is great and the service is very fast, even during the morning rush. They have an amazing variety of muffin flavors, too. They have ample seating - again, even during the morning rush, perhaps because the store is not very visible from the Harvard Square Station. I rarely start a Saturday or Sunday without getting a Peet's coffee in the morning. Love the location. You can just run in for a coffee and sit outside listening to music for a while. Love the coffee- much stronger than anything else around here, even Starbucks. The staff here is generally very friendly. And although I have seen the line get pretty long form time to time, it generally moves pretty quickly and I've never had them get my order wrong. If not a standout, definitely consistent. read more

Yes, Peet's is busy. Yes, it is terribly hard to find seating. But they make one helluva good cup of coffee and they are in Harvard Square. Everything in Harvard Square is crowded, if you haven't noticed. And I've never had to wait terribly long for my drink despite this. Anyhow, I am a bit of a cappuccino snob, and Peet's baristas really know how to make foam. They also make conversation if you're nice. I don't think their product could get any better. My only complaint is the lack of seating, but that seems nearly impossible to rectify, so I'm not taking off any stars. read more

I've never had the coffee here but my friends tell me it's decent. I have had the hot chocolate which was good, but not as as good as Starbucks, and certainly not Burdick's. For tea, go to Tealuxe located a block away. A little too cramped to be a chill-out spot. read more

The quality of coffee is excellent and the staff is very friendly. However, this place suffers from the bad leadership from its manager, Janice. She is unfit for customer service. I observed her talking down to customers on many occasions. She belongs to this category of arrogant managers who does not listen to customer feedback. I saw her kicking out a poor homeless who was purchasing a cup of coffee to keep himself warm. The insults she yelled at him were unnecessary, humiliating and degrading. I will never go back to that store as long as this rude manager is working there. That is such a waste for a store that has so much potential. read more

Definitely the best franchised coffee and tea area around (beats out Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts by a landslide). Many chains cut corners when it comes to iced drinks, but over at Peets, I don't see any of that. Their iced tea is double brewed and cooled a bit before adding ice, so it's nice and strong. They still steam the milk for an iced latte, which definitely improves the flavor over just pouring over cold milk. Also, they have many different milk and sugar options. I like how they even have liquid sugar that can be added to iced drinks, and they have both white AND turbonado sugar. Also, they have Sugar Free Mochas, which I haven't seen anywhere else (they're delicious too, and don't have that saccharine aftertaste that a lot of other sugar free drinks have). Lastly, they have a large selection of teas, which is great when I'm in the mood for one. Minus one star for it being a little bit expensive ($3 for a cup of *rare* tea is a bit steep), and for having a bit of longer wait time for beverages. read more

This Peet's is amazing! By amazing, I meant if you have a brain tumor and equate "amazing" to slow, inattentive service, and dirty, unwashed hippies. Most of them are the one's working behind the counter anyways. I was here on a Wednesday morning, and there was a line of about 15 people. However, there was only a single guy making coffee AND working the register. You'd think that for a bunch of hipsters who (I assume) are proponents of socialism they'd be better at equally distributing the work. What would brother Marx say if he saw this scene?! However, the rest of his "comrades" were busy (I assume) peeing in the green tea in the back. Again, this is totally unsubstantiated, but it does seem like a good way for them to "get back at The Man." Also, their green tea tastes weird. I'm not saying it tastes like urine, but perhaps some weird combination of Splenda, urine and Kale or whatever gluten-free diet they're on makes the tea taste the way it does. One of the staff even went to the bathroom. Did she wash her hands when she came back? I have no way of knowing, but let's just say I wouldn't bet on it. After I got my coffee, 20 minutes later, I was told the Wi-Fi wasn't working. To be honest, the only reason I even came here was to use the internet to do some work. Of course it wasn't working though. I assume they shut off access to the public so they could use it to download a Pavement album, along with a bunch of other music from bands you've probably never heard of but are way better than whatever processed, poppy commercialized crap you listen to that only hurts organic farms and the third-world. Again, I have no proof that this is what they did. But it does make sense. Think about it. Plus, I saw one of them leaving his shift with, what I assume, was a 100% organic hemp tote bag to carry his belongings. Finally, I was able to use Harvard's guest Wi-Fi. Thankfully their Wi-Fi doesn't require an intimate knowledge of Animal Farm. However, I couldn't write emails in peace because the workers thought all 20 people in the store would want to hear them sing pitchy renditions of their favorite counter-culture band. Or maybe it was supposed to be ironic, I don't really know. I DO know their singing was terrible. I remember when I first hit puberty. It was at a normal age. For a men with full grown beards, their voices broke a lot. It sounded like the pain only a fellow late bloomer could appreciate. Regardless, I think if Obama wanted to find an alternative to the interrogation techniques being utilized in Gitmo, sending prisoners to get coffee from the Peet's on Mt. Auburn would probably get him impeached. It would be far less human treatment. read more

I used to grab some cup of coffee every day from this store. Stuff always so nice absolutely! But one day my barista made for me the best take out latte he made even art on my take out latte and than other day another barista made worse iced macha latte ever. It was full of milk with a little spoon of macha powder. He poured too much milk to shaker and it was obviously too mich for medium size of latte I felt like I drink milk instead if macha latte. read more

I got their Caramel Freddo and I don't like it.. I was hoping for a blended sweet coffee drink but I got a very watery, barely flavorful coffee drink with black coffee chunks which is actually kind of gross.... Don't think I'll be going back here again. read more

The "cappucino" I had here today was a joke. Not only was it not a cappucino (it was a latte), the idiot making it burned the coffee to a point beyond drinkable. He also was clumsy and sent milk flying everywhere, including onto me and my companion, when he finished pouring the drink. I try not to be too hard on places for sucking, but I'm going to make an exception for this place. It's a chain on the same level of crappyness that Starbucks is on, it's expensive, and the product is garbage. Save your money and go to Dunkin Donuts for coffee that is at least drinkable. I hate places that dress themselves up to be something special, when in reality they clearly know nothing about good coffee or how to make it properly. read more

I love this place too. In fact, as a former peetnik, I can attest to the quality of the coffee. There's pretty much no comparison for both straight black coffee AND espresso drinks. HOWEVER that said, I have some gripe-itty-gripes. SERVICE: for some reason, I always felt that people weren't as nice (sincere or not) than as Starbuck's. I think people here take themselves WAY to seriously or they just happen to have much more stickler type managers that tense up the place. ANYWAY, when the service is good, it's excellent, but for the most part I've found them to be a bit moody (even in various Cali locations). COFFEE: it's the best. But they charge you for a refill full price minus 10 cents for your own cup. Star-b's charges only 50c. If you want just a little foam on top, they charge you for the milk - even if it's a smidge of foamy goodness! Starb's: ZILCH for foam. It's courtesy if you ask. SO then the last gripe: Before, if you walked up to the counter and they had JUST run out of coffee and you had to wait for a new batch, they would give you a complimentary coffee as a courtesy for having to wait. No mo', no mo'! So sad. They went corporate last year. read more

TLDR: I was overcharged bc Gary is rude but my drink was PERFECT! I'm a former peetnik of 2 years and when I say I was treated horribly....it was awful. Went to show my mom around Harvard and it was raining so we ducked into Peets (loyalty be I love Peets) she needed to use the restroom and there was no toilet paper nor toilet seat covers. Gary was very rude when I asked kindly (I understand coffee rushes very well) he grabbed the key rudely out of my hand and scoffed at me. I then went to order. He seemed new and I give all leniency to that because I understand that it's hard to learn the register. I asked for a medium hot chocolate with sharffenberger steamed into whole milk. No sauces, no whipped cream. I gave him a moment and then Gary interrupts him and says we have no button for that. Just charge her for an extra sauce. My mom ordered a jade mist organic tea-he charged her for a jasmine Downey pearls (rare tea is more expensive) I hand him a coupon for a free medium and then he only takes a small coffee credit off my bill. I just let it be. Gary was telling me very rudely that I couldn't use two coupons. I asked for 2 transactions. I've dealt with my fair share of rude customers as a barista. I understand that being patient is hard and I'm forgiving of people in customer service. I go to the barista and I see her dumping javiva powder in my cup with chocolate syrup. I told her kindly that I just wanted a hot cocoa with sharffenberger and whole milk nothing else. She got it in 2 seconds. Yay. Drink turned out PERFECTLY. Nice barista-shitty shift lead Gary.
