My husband and I were so excited for our New Orleans getaway, and upon arriving at The Pelham Hotel, we were not disappointed! It was fairly early in the morning so we knew we wouldn't be able to check in, but the desk clerk held our luggage and advised that she'd text us when our room was ready. When we did receive the text (exactly 2PM), we weren't quite ready to depart Bourbon Street, so we returned about 4PM. When we arrived at our room, we found it open and being painted! We returned to the front desk where the young lady quickly remedied our problem and told us to choose a bottle of wine for our trouble! That evening we couldn't get our shower water to get hot. We ran it for about 10 minutes and finally took cold showers. As we were leaving the hotel for dinner, we stopped by the front desk to inform them, and to let them know that we'd need maintenance in the AM (additionally to replace our in-room coffee maker, which was broken); the evening desk clerk abruptly dismissed us by saying that we needed to run the SINK hot water AND the SHOWER hot water at the same time for about 10minutes and our hot water issue would be resolved. Maintenance did come in the AM to bring a new Keurig once my husband physically brought down the non-functioning coffee maker. The sweet gentleman also checked out the hot water situation and told us that when many hotel guests are showering at the same time, that the hot water is in short supply, no solution for that. However, we continued to have hot water issues and indeed had to run the sink water and tub water simultaneously for 10 minutes or more each time we showered! On our last day, we spoke briefly to the daytime front desk clerk and verified that our room would be cleaned. (We did verify that each day because we had needed extra towels the day prior and the desk clerk reminded us that our housekeepers would be bringing them when they did their daily room "update" ). However, upon our return, we discovered that our room HAD NOT been serviced. Since there aren't any in-room phones, I went back down to the front desk, where I encountered the dismissive young man desk clerk. He told me that he'd bring it to the attention of housekeeping the next day (we'd be checked out by then) and in the meantime he'd give us towels, but housekeeping was gone for the day and there was nothing he could do about it. No apologies, nor any attempt to rectify. The location is perfect, close to the French quarter but much quieter since it's in the central business district. As noted by other travelers, there indeed is a musty/damp smell to the building. There was lots of moldy black residue under the rim of the bathroom sink. The bedroom rug was gross. However, the bed was very comfy and they have excellent complimentary coffee in the lobby all day. The daytime young lady desk clerk was always polite and helpful. Which is why I am having trouble with this review. There were good points and not-so-good points. I guess it warrants 3 stars but I don't think I'd recommend. I would stay at the Sheraton or Marriott instead; even though I do love boutique hotels, sometimes they are just not worth the aggravation! read more

I stayed here for the last night of my trip to New Orleans, and after staying 6 days at the Hilton Riversde, I quickly realized that I instantly loved the vintage boutique hotels so much more It's completely different from your standard nationwide hotels. My favorite parts of the Prlham Hotel were the unique vintage decor infused with french and New Orleans styles, the hospitality, the rooms looked AMAZING, and the locations were one block behind Canal St. I now want to try other small classic hotels in New Orleans going forward. It's such a treat to see something so different from your standard hotels. Loved it!! Food: The Pelham Hotel has a Ruby Slippers restaurant connected to it that is amazing. A few notes to consider, they are packed from the time the doors open until ot closes, so if you can make a reservation, do it. They also close at 2 pm and stop taking names around 1:45 pm. The entry is on the corner, so the waiting space is tight with all the foot traffic. However, I saw everyone waiting on the other 3 corners plus along the hotel. They do a great job yelling your name out so you can hear from across the street. FYI, the streets are close to each other. Atmosphere: I felt really safe in the hotel and in the surrounding area. The hotel makes you feel like you're in the 50s or 60s, but at the same time, it's modern. What a great vibe. Everyone is nice and polite. It is a big tourist area. However, it's off the main street and 5 minutes of walking from the french quarter. Service: The staff was so nice and polite and did a great job accommodating me before I was able to check into my room. I arrived just after 11 a.m. My check-in time was at 3 pm. I was able to check my luggage in and store them until I arrived back at the hotel later that night. NOTE: Check-in is usually at 3pm it's a late check-in, but you can request an early check-in, and if your room is ready, you can check in. Price: The prices are great, I got a studio king for 1 night at $178 after taxes. The room has high ceilings and dark wooden floors, and with so much space, they could fit another couch in the room if they wanted to. The bathrooms are massive also with high ceilings. There's a dest, 2 padded chairs, a refrigerator, a microwave, and a kurig, and the best part is that all the furniture looks vintage. Location: It's located in downtown New Orleans, at 444 Common St. It's right behind Canal St. and 5 minutes walking distance from the french quarters. AMAZING!! read more

We arrived after 2 pm on a Friday for a 2-night stay. The first words that the clerk said to me were, "So you want to pay for early check-in?" Huh? Pay extra? I didn't recall saying anything like that at ALL! Here, this was a largely empty hotel at the time, mid-afternoon, and she was unwilling to let two road-weary seniors have access to their room that was definitely ready and waiting and ALREADY PAID FOR! Apparently her earning a little extra folding money was more important than our comfort. The day earlier in Baton Rouge, our luxury hotel there let us check in 3 hours early with no problem and no additional fee. Now, I'm not a cheapskate so it wasn't about the $40 bribe she requested; that was chump change. It was the principle of the thing, about being treated less like valued guests and more like being told we weren't welcome and please go away. Did I mention that my girlfriend is handicapped, was in real pain, and wanted to lie down? I asked her if we could leave our bags there until 4 pm. She said yes, but that we had to lug them in because they don't offer valet service if they don't park your car. She also said she couldn't park my car since I had already paid for the first few hours on a street lot. Hmm, this was starting to feel like more of a bad Motel 6 experience than checking into a supposed luxury property. So we ended up cooling our heels at a bar down the street for 2 hours until they would release the room. Guess what? It didn't cool ME down; rather, it put a huge damper on our fun weekend in New Orleans. The Pelham hotel is off the beaten path, and the front entrance is next to the dumpsters of the Ruby Slipper restaurant next door. And while that is a great brunch restaurant, the hotel street front is, shall we say, "wet and fragrant." Our room and the amenities were nice enough, but just bear in mind that this is 100+ year old building, so rooms are small. I had to wait an hour for ice because that same desk clerk hadn't bothered to fill the bin, which also chapped me. So all told, I would say this is more like a youth hostel in terms of service and front desk concern for the guests' comfort. Don't get me wrong; we travel a LOT and normally stay at AirBNBs or VRBO, so we're used to hauling our own bags and roughing it a little. But we're seniors, and we thought we paid their higher room price to enjoy a little luxury, pampering and friendly courteous service. If you're looking for the same, I might suggest the DoubleTree, Marriott, Westin, Caesar's or any of the dozens of other nice properties in the very same area. read more

Looking for a nice weekend stay but didn't want all the noise of Bourbon area. This really fit the bill. The only downside is they close at midnight and our flight was delayed. So we barely made it in before hitting a big dilemma. The girl at the counter didn't seem too excited to be waiting for us. All that changed when we saw our 4th floor room. Very nice room and classic style but updated. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom very nice. Huge TV plenty of space. We loved the inside of the hotel. The best part is it's connected to the Ruby Slipper cafe next door and their food is amazing. Hotel guests can also reserve a table 30 mins earlier than when it opens to the public. Great location, solid effort, not quite there. The Pehlam reaches toward being a solid boutique hotel, but doesn't quite cross all the hurdles. Service is great! The lobby is run tightly and effectively! Everyone down there is helpful and a great resource. The rooms are clean and tidy. Lighting, however, was done by someone who is a sadist or never has to fix their hair. Task lighting isn't functional. There's a lot of wasted space, but I understand it's an old building. The bathroom was tight and tough to use for two. The shower floor mimics NOLA sidewalks in it's evenness. So that harkens to the local flavor, I guess. The lobby appears comfy, but I never felt like it was a place that one hangs out or relaxes. There's nowhere to get away from the front desk. This is a hotel with potential. Again, the location is prime. I just feel like they need to invest a lil bit more. read more

Do not ever agree to be placed in a room on the first floor of this hotel. The street noise is unbearable and goes all night. A garbage truck comes every morning and it sounds like it's backing right up to your bed. It came at 5:30am yesterday and 7:45am this morning. We've been pleading with the hotel to change our room but they refuse. Not because they don't have availability, but because they have different classes of rooms apparently. The service at this hotel is abhorrent. I would never recommend staying here. I didn't know what to expect when I booked this room on Hopper. I will tell you this stay was such a good decision. It was so nice! Super boutique and you could tell it was recently renovated. The beds were comfortable. There was a coffee/tea maker keurig machine in the room. They also had two big water bottles and a fridge. Our room was by everything! Everything was within walking distance! We even took a stroll to the casino and the casino had so many food options. Not even two blocks away. You can see the Cesar's Palace from the door! I must also give the staff loads of compliments. Jade was sooooo amazing. Truly made our stay and checkout so easy! She held our bags til we were ready to go. Arthur was awesome too! We did have some issues with using Netflix in our room. I don't know why! I tried everything and went to every outlet to check but nothing! I was not able to figure it out or get help. This process should be simplified. Every other stay I've had it's been easy to just login my info and even scan it from my phone. Arthur did hook us up with one of the engineers cause the power went out on our night stand. It got fixed within hours. Great service!!! My husband, his grandma and I stayed at this hotel for a couple of days during our recent trip to New Orleans. The hotel is small, but gives off a speakeasy and boutique vibe. This hotel does not have any thrills pr even windows in the ro Cleanliness: as someone who packs cleaning supplies for hotel stays I will say that this hotel was very clean. Nothing came up on any of my wipes on the counters or in the shower, which was a surprise and delight. I will say, though that the hotel had an old and musky smell throughout the lobby and elevator. Staff/Service: Since the hotel is so small I only interacted with three staff members. They were all nice and kind but one of them provided false info to my hubby about several things which us feel like she was either new or confused. Otherwise the staff was great and brought towels upon request. There are no phones in the hotel rooms just a number to text if you need anything. Rooms: The rooms were clean as mentioned before. Neither our room or his grandmother's room had a window, which was a bit of a disappointment. Both rooms had the usual amenities, including plenty of bedside outlets to charge electronics. Overall, if you're looking for an inexpensive hotel, that does not have any extras like a pool and gym then this is a great option. read more

We just finished our stay (June 5-10 2024), and got home to clean out our vehicle. Blunt wraps and cigarillos were found under our driver seat, which we have attached photos of. No one in our family smokes, and there was ash in our vehicle, showing one of their drivers was smoking in our car. This is completely unacceptable as we come from families with high levels of cancer. Additionally, my in-laws were staying in the same hotel and had a horrific experience. The first room they were given had BLOOD on the bedsheets. When they went to the front desk to address it, a gentlemen stated he was the only one there so he'd get to it eventually. After an extensive period of waiting, about 30 minutes, my father-in-law went down again to address it. The employee finally just moved them to another room, which was appreciated. Following this, on a different day, the same employee barged into their room unannounced, while my mother-in-law was showering and father-in-law was in his underwear. There was no acknowledgement or apology, just the employee running out of the room. Later, when the employee was confronted, he stated "Yeah, I just had to grab something." This was also completely unacceptable. Overall, our experience was moderate at best, but after finding the ashes, smoking paraphernalia, combined with the blood on the bed and the intrusion into one of our rooms... I could never recommend this hotel to anyone, especially considering I have attempted to contact the hotel via email, and gotten no response. read more

This is my second stay at this hotel, and again I'm happy I booked a stay here. This is my third visit to NOLA and I always choose to stay in the CBD. The hotel is located one block from Canal and is a quick jaunt into The French Quarter. I appreciate a quiet place to sleep once I'm done with the bacchanalia of Bourbon Street. Both visits I've had king suite in the Annex. There are two rooms per floor and since I visited during the week, I was the only one on the floor. The staff is friendly and helpful. I did not like my room. The location was horrible. It was on first floor behind the checkin counter. There were no windows in the room. It was very creepy & small. We could hear every loudmouth guest return to hotel during the wee hours. There must've been a freight elevator nearby, because we could hear that as well. The only positives was, room was recently updated. Also the bathroom soaps were nice. I would not stay here again. Just pay a few more dollars and get a room someplace that has windows. I was with my teenage daughter and we were in town to tour a couple of colleges, so this was more business than pleasure. The fee for overnight parking is ridiculous. read more

I absolutely loved staying at the Pelham. It's so close to the quarter yet hotel is quiet and elegant. I had a one bedroom with the highest ceiling I've ever seen inside a hotel. So while the room was small in square footage the depth more than compensated. The staff was warm and welcoming and I felt safe. I liked the location, it is within walking distance to most amenities in the French quarter. The staff was kind and very helpful, very polite. I thought the fact that there is parking out front I order to give us time to check in and unload our bags was helpful. The shower was clogged. There was a blonde hair on the sink (none of us have blonde hair). The ironing board was stained and got on my clothes when I used it. The bedsheets were the biggest problem for us: there was hair on ALL three layers of sheets that we inspected, some of which looked like pubes. This was on BOTH beds. On one of the beds, there was crumbs of what looked like scab dandruff. We called the front desk to request new linen but some of it also had hair on it. There were several different stains on flat sheets and pillows. Also we got an attitude about requesting new linen and we were told that no one could come up to give us the fresh linen so we had to go downstairs and get it ourselves. read more

I'm giving the hotel 1 star solely for the location. It is within walking distance to Bourbon St., Canal St. and Jackson Square. 1. The hotel has a very dark creepy vibe and wierd smell. I had to spray my perfume in hopes of masking the odor. 2. The staff was very rude and unpleasant. After requesting a diffrent room (the 1st room was big as an amazon box with NO WINDOWS), the attendant was going to charge me an additional $30 per night to move rooms. Thankfully, the manager changed my room the following day with no charge. 3. They have the nerve to charge a daily resort fee. This place has no pool, no gym, no breakfast or any other "resort" ammenities. I was told the resort fee was for the shampoo, lotion, soap,etc. read more

I can't give an extensive review because I did not stay here long. I found a bed bug crawling on my pillowcase shortly after checking in, and that's an absolute deal-breaker. I was out of there. The best I can say is that staff were willing to fully refund me. Staying here is NOT worth the risk or worry. I stayed elsewhere (nearby) during my New Orleans trip with comparable prices and no concern about bugs/pests. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a hotel. We booked a room at this place, and they charged my card and took the money out, but then when we went to check in, they said they couldn't find our booking and had oversold the hotel rooms and didn't have a room for us. They then said we would not be able to speak to a manager until tomorrow, and they still have not refunded my money. So this means I now have to find another accommodation tonight while still not having my money refunded from them. It's such a shame because I thought this was going to be a nice and pleasant experience, the hotel looked nice online. We drove 4 hours to the hotel today from Florida only to find once we arrived that they did not have a room for us. Stay away from this place, they are shady, unprofessional, and should not be in the business of operating a hotel. Clearly the manager of this hotel is totally incompetent and I hope she does not remain employed here. I sincerely hope the city of New Orleans abuts this place down. Myself and two friends recently stayed in a room here for our first visit to Nola. We all really enjoyed this hotel. We were nervous as we found one of those cheap deals off Expedia but it really was great! The location is perfect. It's far enough away from the action but close enough to walk to. I felt we were in a safe area as well. I loved how historic it looked (and maybe it is lol). The lobby is small and quaint. The room was small, also but we didn't mind. The beds were super comfortable. The staff were all very cool & friendly and made our stay enjoyable. We were just a few paces down from the elevator and almost at the end but we never heard any inside or outside noise. Our room remained peaceful and quiet during our entire stay. The only suggestions I'd like to make are: get rid of those ugly picture frames on the wall with what look like stock photos because they take away from the charm of the room. The lighting in the bathroom is god-awful and made me look like a sad panda with the black circles that fluorescent lighting cast upon my face each morning. And if you're gonna have mini fridges, have a mini microwave! Also, as a person who suffers from allergies and who is also fairly wary about cleanliness, we all had questions of when those huge drapes in the room had been cleaned last. Staff was amazing! Everyone we came in contact with was absolutely jovial and welcoming. The girls working the front desk in the morning were helpful with places to go and things to do with Louisiana moving down a phase while we were there. Anthony who worked the overnight shift made our evening a treat everyday we were there! Only thing I can say negatively about it is the elevator. Currently writing my review from the hotel as that's how annoyed I am. We arrived at the hotel around 10am, dropped our bags off and completed check-in paperwork. The morning receptionist was bubbly and helpful. She said we would receive a text message when our room was available but we never did. We arrived back at the hotel around 7:30pm and the receptionist took a couple of minutes finding our reservation but eventually gave us our keys. Upon entering the room we found it to be extremely cool. We turned the heat up and settled in. About an hour later it was still cool. We called the front desk and were told to reset the system and wait 30-60mins before we would see a change in temperature and if there was no change she would reach out to maintenance. We called back within 30 minutes as there was no change and we were told maintenance could not come until the next day. We were only staying one night. We attempted to go to the front desk to speak with the receptionist and we bumped into her in the hall with a space heater. She suggested three people attempt to be heated off one space heater and let us know all rooms were booked for the evening. When she gave us the space heater it was operating at 75 degrees and quickly dropped to 61. The temperature in the room from the hotel thermostat was 64. It was freezing and just barely colder inside than out. There's no way possible we can stay here tonight or that this one space heater will keep us warm considering the temperature keeps dropping. We tried to take a shower to warm up only to find out the water is not hot either!! We booked thru a third party so we called to request a refund and were told the manager would not be in until the next day at 9am and that the receptionist was confused about our request considering she provided us with a space heater. Our day exploring NOLA was amazing until now. Our friends are staying in another room with no issues. Wouldn't stay here again. Why is maintenance not available? Why did you not know the heat wasn't operating well? Why do you only have one space heater? Why did it take so long to find our reservation when we pre-checked in? Too many questions and not enough answers in my opinion. ******UPDATE: We dished out more funds to stay in a different hotel. We checked out of our hotel and the woman at the front desk asked why we would stay and informed us she could call the maintenance department if we wanted and they could come out immediately. We reminded her we requested for maintenance to come out and she is the one who told us they could not come until tomorrow. We requested a full refund and we are hoping it will be accommodated as staff was not helpful, accommodating or considerate in any way. ANOTHER UPDATE: Just received this email. Apparently the hotel receptionist told our 3rd party booking company we did not check out and never gave staff a chance to fix the problem. A BOLD FACED ILLOGICAL LIE. read more

Very clean , has character and the staff was very friendly and helpful . Had an issue with the toilet working properly but they immediately sent someone to fix the issue . Room was a little smaller than most but cozy and the AC works very good . The location is excellent for walking the French quarter and a block to a main trolly line . Just spent 3 nights/4 days this past week at the Pelham with my two teens and had a wonderful stay. Arrived early and our belongings were put away for us, but moments later our room was all ready. Great service, staff was always pleasant and helpful. Clean and very quiet rooms. Beds and blankets were extremely comfortable. Nice sized bathtub, too. The high ceilings made the room feel a bit grand. We did spot a bug but didn't make a complaint. There was a complication with our toilet backing up on the first night but it was immediately taken care of and remained issue free the rest of our time there. My kids are adamant it's haunted (by nice spirits). At one point the door handle jiggled... but no one was there. As my daughter blamed ghosts, the lights in the room suddenly all flickered. Coincidence? It was so easy coming and going, exploring beautiful New Orleans thanks to the superb location. Quick groceries reasonably priced at Nesbit's on Magazine Street, just a block away - stocked with a nice selection of earth friendly products including Dr. Bronner's. We even caught an umbrella led New Orleans style procession viewed from our window one evening. I would've appreciated a microwave and coffee pot in the room (there is a Keurig with coffee, cream, and sugar, in the charming lobby). It is a really lovely hotel. If you enjoy staying at historical places, I highly recommend the Pelham. I'll definitely return. read more

Sweetie found this place for our honeymoon. You never really know what you're getting into with a hotel; you can check the reviews, look at photos, whatever, but it's always a surprise when you get there. But she is pretty good at choosing places for our trips, and this place was great. Got there late, checked in and went to eat at a place the clerk recommended. That clerk was there a lot of the time we were, and he was very helpful and friendly. The place itself is cozy, historic, and architecturally interesting. Our room was small but very cool, with high ceilings and unique details. Nothing fancy, but great as home base for a few days. There's a fridge and a safe, a very comfortable bed, and, of course, free wifi. Valet parking is a bit pricey but handy. There's a restaurant attached, and plenty within a few minutes walk. The neighborhood is just outside the French Quarter, a pleasant short walk. For less than half the price of something actually in the Quarter, we got a great room and an excellent experience. Next time we go to New Orleans, hopefully within the next few years, we will definitely stay here. read more

Only giving this a one star because I absolutely loved the in house shampoo and conditioner. We booked the Pelham because it was very close to the French Quarter, in fact it was close to almost everything. It was not an easy find as the front door is fairly obscure. When we arrived and found the door check in was relatively pleasant. Quick and efficient even if the artwork was very creepy. Upon entry of the room we immediately noticed that the ceilings were extraordinarily high, which was an interesting architectural feature, but the bathroom was not cleaned well, dark hairs left behind in the sink and in the shower and we are both red heads. When we reported this to the front desk we were assured that a member of their management team would contact us. We are still waiting. On the second day of our 4 day stay we saw mice running around on the second floor hallway. Now, had this not been Memorial Day weekend we would have immediately changed hotels. Alas, that was not a realistic option. So again, we reported it to unconcerned employees. In short, I would not recommend nor would I ever consider staying there again. My personal baseline is cleanliness and rodent free. read more

3.5 stars So what you're thinking is to get a hotel close to the French Quarter at a reasonable price. Pelham can deliver that. Don't expect any frills. The room is a little dated and the space is a little cramped. but if you're just looking for a place to crash at the end of a long hard night of swinging on the dance poles, look no further. There's parking garages and lots in the area for around $25 a day. It's a quick 5 minute walk to the French Quarter as well but don't expect to bring anyone here to impress them (unless it's with what your mama gave ya). read more

I agree with Jordan N. The staff is friendly, the ceiling is HUGE! They could have put a loft bed up there and charged double. The AC seems to magically turn off when you leave-there's a little sign that says it goes up to save energy, so basically when you come in it's like cross between a sweaty gym and a sweaty something else. I was upset about the fact that there is a mandatory safe fee as well as a mandatory telephone/internet fee. Apparently it's Louisiana law, my friend stayed at another place and they didn't mention it all so at least this place is up front about it. Amenity-wise, forget about it. It's a small hotel and they don't have space for a gym, or a business center or even vending on every floor. It's good for what it is, a place for people who are planning on just using the room as a rest area between bar crawling on Bourbon-the location for that is great. read more

We stayed four days here. The location is great. It is on the edge of the French Quarter, close to Harrah's and the streetcars are a block away. This is a great place to stay to visit the French Quarter without being in the chaos. The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. The closets are larger than most hotel closets, which makes it possible for everyone to hang up their things and put luggage away. The staff is friendly and helpful. We will stay here again. read more
