    Below our room!

We love this inn so much that we paid for a second night. It's close to the action without being too loud and crowded. The rooms are nicely sized and have a convenient shower stall.

Okay- I feel like I'm speaking to a specific demographic here---the one that has stayed in NOLA (or another very old city) before. The one that wants to be part of the culture and the middle of everything. The one that spends more time out of the room than in it. The one that is willing to sacrifice some high-end perks for all of the above. So if that's you, keep reading. If not, keep looking for other accommodations. We were in room 22- first floor, off the courtyard. Yes, there was a musty smell in the room-- it's only 7,000 years old or whatever. Yes, we could hear the neighbors when they were in the courtyard. You're in the French Quarter...it could be much worse. Now for everything else- - The bed & pillows (all 6 of them!) were super comfy. - The bathroom was roomy. Standing shower only, but plenty big. - There's a safe for valuables and room to hang clothes, as well as a full dresser. - The room was small, but not cramped. - Location was excellent. If you're going anywhere in the French Quarter, you can easily walk. - Parking is available and about an 8-10 minute walk. This was no issue for us, but just an FYI if you can't find street parking. Now for why I'm only giving 3 stars: - It could have been cleaned much better (the slats in the bathroom door were caked with dust) - Speaking of bathroom doors, who the hell wants slats in the bathroom door? Hope you're in the "I still love you after hearing you take a shit" phase of your relationship. - They could afford to do some touch ups. Shoddy spackling jobs, chipped paint, etc. - We paid $450 per night for this place. Yes, we were there for the national championship game so every place spiked prices, but I would have gone up $50 more per night to get something higher quality. Hopefully they will use some of the $1500 we paid for 3 nights to make some of those necessary touch-ups. - our TV remote wouldn't do anything but turn the TV on and adjust the volume. BUT- we did not report this to the front desk...we weren't in the room much. In summary- if you want to be in the heart of it and come home to pass out in a comfy bed...this should totally suffice.

Service: Carrie Sue, Abbey, Elisa, and Bill were all nice, helpful, and welcoming Location: Far east and quieter end of the French Quarter, which I knew, but in the heat, took me 15-20 min to walk to the center of things. Rooms: Bill bought and rehabbed the guest house after Katrina. We stayed in Room 8, which looked nicer on the web site, so I wasn't prepared for how dingy our room actually was. The floors felt dusty and gritty, and the walls and fixtures were rusty, stained, or splotchy. Shower didn't drain the first night. Bed was lumpy and not really comfortable. Despite keeping the A/C in the low 60s, sheets made the bed too warm, but I couldn't sleep without them. I hate to ding a place when the people are so nice, but I'm generally uncomfortable when traveling, so quite possibly, should have considered shelling out more for more comfy lodgings. Hard to do when you're also budget conscious and have to make tradeoffs. Cost: $120 + tax, which seemed pricey compared to Hotel Royal, which I found after the fact for $90 + tax with nicer, brighter, newer, cleaner, and more comfortable-looking rooms. I know, I know - not quite apples to apples, but ...

The location of this hotel is killer! I loved how it's in a quieter part of the French Quarter. When I want to be in the noise I can walk a few blocks down on Bourbon street...by the 2nd day I craved some quiet haha The staff are super friendly and helpful. Cold water is only $1 and someone is always there so I can just walk over and get a bottle instead of wandering around looking for a place to buy water. I loved our room! It was clean...soooo clean. There wasn't a light in the closet and I was too freaked out to use it but there was plenty of space in the drawers from both me and the hubz. We were in room 1 so there is a lot of outside noise at night...horse drawn carriages, the occasional drunk singing, and the god awful trash pickup in the morning. But I'm not much to dwell on city noises and if I had neighbors I never heard them so that was nice. Ohh the bed was comfy enough where I didn't feel even more tired after a long day. I wish there were more pillows but I'm a pillow hog. Seriously loved staying here. It was quaint, very New Orleans, and in the perfect location (less than 10 minute walk to Cafe Du Monde).

Charming, clean, atmospheric! This is an old structure on the outside but the rooms are quite clean and modern with hardwood floors, comfortable beds and well-functioning bathrooms. I had seen some reviews about slow or no hot water and low pressure in the showers, but during my recent stay (Sept 2016) they were just fine in my upstairs room. Anthony took my rsv over the phone about 2 months before my stay and explained the rate I got. On check-in, JuJu told me my room wasn't ready (I got there about 11am from a red eye flight!) which I had planned for so I stowed my bags and accept the bottle of water she offered. She called me after brunch at the Court of the Two Sisters, about 1:30 when I was touring The Historic Collection of New Orleans. My daughter and I flopped onto our separate beds and took a blessed nap in our quiet room before lighting up the town. It's fun to mix and mingle with the other guests in the courtyard or the hot tub. I have stayed here over the years and it's evident that they are taking care of little things like tightening up loose brick walkways, painting in corners etc. Staying here adds a historic dimension to your visit, you feel like you are going back in time. I called downstairs a few times and Anthony was on duty and I went down to meet him in person, and he was as gracious live as he was on the phone. Taxis are easy to come by. When you exit, turn right to elegant and Old World Royal Street, half a block. Turn left, and a half block takes you to the raucous delights of Bourbon Street. Great location, best of both worlds, the Old and the New.

There "safety lock" to a door that leads outside.

If there was a way to give a zero star review I would. Long story short we booked here from the pictures and location. We were so excited to see Nola. When we arrived the area was less than inviting. We checking in and hoped for the best. Room was disgusting, smelly and hot. It was so small we could barely move around each outlet without bumping into one another. We tried to make the best of it out out stuff down and went for a walk. When trying to get down the stair we noticed they were extremely steep and broken. My foot got caught trying to walk down them it was that bad!! We came back to the room and I realized there was a little door with a loose ihook latch. I thought it was a closet previously, but when I opened it I realized it led to what seems like a boiler room. As I did more investigating this in locked door lead to outside and the door outside had absolutely no lock on it. Judging from the amount of homeless strangers lurking around this hotel and the state of the hotel we decided this was a safety concern and a couple hours in decided to leave. We checked out and explained why. They guy at the front desk seemed aggravated and told me I would have to request a refund from the 3rd party I booked with. I said no problem. We booked at another hotel on canal street (highly recommend) and when I called third party the guy at the front desk lied to them saying he told us he was denying a refund and a whole bunch of things that were never even said at all. Anyways this place was a disaster and do yourself a favor book at an actual hotel where you will be safe. Regardless of losing money after being deceived by this inn, we got engaged this weekend in Nola!!! No thanks to the inn that almost ruined EVERYTHING!!!!!!! Beware. I wish I was able to post the videos I took of where the door lead and how one push/wiggle unlatched the ihook. Guess you'll just have to take my word for it.

OK so the staff was extremely friendly and my room was clean enough. The problem was the water pressure. As hot and sticky as it is in NOLA the shower only trickled and the toilet just swished around never fully flushing. Our room smelled like mildew. My husband and I stayed one night before finding accommodations elsewhere. It wasn't the worst hotel I have ever experienced, lets just call it second worst.

    Lauren S.

I only gave this place a one star because they had good customer services. My room was so bad i couldn't give stay the night. The room had a odd small. The shower could only hold a half of person. Thats how small it was. It took forever to find this place. Its hard to believe they call this place a Hotel. When its clearly a motel.

One of my favorite moments was chatting with a gentleman in the lobby who helped with our luggage. We mentioned we were visiting from Pennsylvania, and he shared that his very first job was in Pennsylvania and actually knew our area. It was one of those authentic conversations that makes you feel more like a guest than just another room number. Our room in the older section was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. Housekeeping and the nightly turndown service were exceptional. We also spent plenty of time at the pool, where the staff and bartender were fantastic. The drinks were great, the food hit the spot, and the Fourth of July pop-up DJ made for a really fun afternoon. The service was so personal that one of the bartenders recognized us by name when we ran into her on the street a few days later. The only miss during our stay was the famous Carousel Bar. We never managed to get seats at the actual carousel during our four nights--which is understandable given how popular it is and being the 4th of July weekend. We did sit just behind it. Unfortunately, the service there was noticeably unfriendly and felt completely out of step with the incredible hospitality we experienced everywhere else in the hotel. That one experience wasn't enough to overshadow an otherwise outstanding stay. Between the beautiful historic décor, unbeatable French Quarter location, easy access to everything, and a staff that truly cares about its guests, Hotel Monteleone absolutely lived up to the hype. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

The 2 things I care most about when staying in a hotel is a comfortable night's rest and a good bathroom/shower. The bed in our room was the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on in my entire life. It was so mushy that when you laid your head down, you sunk so far into it that your legs were literally 45 degrees above your head. I ended up sleeping upside down in the bed with my head where your feet go in order to feel even remotely comfortable. The pillows were all extremely flat, when you put your head on one it sank so far your face was about 1/2 inch from the mattress. I had to use 3 pillows stacked on each other. I had a stiff back, neck and joints the entire time we were there. The 2nd issue was hot water. The first morning, we attempted to shower, it only got barely luke warm for me and when my husband showered immediately after he only got ice cold water. We stopped at the front desk that morning on our way out for the day and told the woman at the front desk. She said she hadn't received any other complaints so it must be specific to our room and she would send engineering there to look at it. (we were getting hot water in the sink). Later that evening when we returned to our room, we immediately tested the shower again and it was still ice cold. So we went back to the front desk to check if engineering had come. We spoke to the same woman from the morning who acted like it was the first time we were telling her this and she said the exact same thing. I asked if they were going to come ASAP because we needed to shower soon and we couldn't take ice cold showers. She ignored my question and answered the ringing phone. A manager happened to be at the desk and overheard our conversation. He asked what our room number was and said that because of the old building and the pipes the hot water takes longer to get there. He said this was a KNOWN Issue by the staff, management and the owner. He told us to run the shower for AT LEAST 15 to 20 minutes, simultaneously with the sink and it should get hot. He also offered to move us to a different room but when I asked if he could guarantee if we wouldn't have the same problem in that room he couldn't give me a straight answer. We had already unpacked everything and didn't want to go through that hassle without a guarantee. So we went back to the room and let it run for 20 minutes and it eventually got hot. So for the remaining 3 mornings, we had to set our alarms for 30 minutes earlier so we could get up and run our shower before hand. For nearly $300 a night, we felt that this was ridiculous. Old building or not, if its a problem, then either don't put people in those rooms, or get it fixed somehow. Why should anyone be subjected to an ice old shower or an inconvenience to their time because the owner hasn't done anything about it? We visited the hotel Bar, the Bourbon O'bar 3 times during our stay and each time we received TERRIBLE service. None of the bartenders were friendly to us, in fact they were pretty rude. Each time it took them at least 10 minutes to even take our order (by standing there and looking at us and not saying anything). The bar was not busy or crowded any of these times. They would then start making one of our drinks, put it down and make other people's drinks, leave and go into a back room, play on their cell phone, talk to each other, or carry the glass around while doing other things. My husband ordered an old fashioned and the alcohol was sitting in the jar with the ice for over 5 minutes while the bartender carried it around doing other things, causing it to get watered down. When making a cocktail, it should be completed from start to finish without doing other things in the middle. I ordered the Mardi Drop cocktail on 2 different days. The first time, it was actually very good. The 2nd time from a different bartender it was horrible .He also sprinkled probably a tablespoon of cinnamon on top of it (which the first didn't have) which made it nearly undrinkable. I had to stir it into the martini in order to not get a mouthful of cinnamon with each sip. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant Roux because of the bad Yelp reviews - we felt we could get a better breakfast elsewhere outside the hotel. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all unless you don't care about being comfortable or friendly service.

Just be prepared for the wall of noise if you're staying on a Friday and Saturday night and have a room facing Bourbon Street; you will need more than the sound machine and earplugs the hotel provides you. But if you're there to party hard on Bourbon Street at all the touristy bars, then you will be in your element. Depending on the side of the hotel you select when booking your room and the days you choose, you may be able to get away with just a sound machine and earplugs, or you may be getting too old and need to look elsewhere. If you stay on the courtyard side, you should have enough barriers to deflect the nonstop barrage of noise coming from all the bars and clubs on Bourbon Street, especially between Bienville and St. Ann, on a Friday and Saturday night particularly. We had a room on the third floor with a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street that gave us a great view and the opportunity to enjoy wine and cocktails as the festivities picked up steam throughout the afternoons of our stay. The bed was wicked comfortable. The set of drawers had plenty of space to put clothes with a small fridge for keeping drinks cool and leftovers from spoiling. The closet space was ample and was able to fit all of our hang-up clothing and our suitcases. There was a nice lounge chair next to the desk to chill if you didn't want to sit on the balcony. However, the bathroom was cramped and narrow with these weird double doors that could cause trouble if you are going to do business in the middle of the night. The water pressure wasn't great either and if you don't have the curtain positioned right then you're going to have a puddle. Housekeeping did come by to change our linens and provide fresh towels every day, which was appreciated. The front desk was very affable and accommodating, especially with holding out luggage when our room wasn't quite ready yet to check-in. And I liked that there was a security person checking people that were actually staying at the hotel to avoid stragglers, random drunks, and transients from entering. I didn't have the chance to use the pool while I was there, but we were busy walking around the French Quarter to really care. Same went with having anything in the restaurant for food. They did have the little mini mart on the ground floor that worked for when we needed more bottles of water that were larger than the complimentary ones. Accommodations at the hotel were solid, but just know if you stay here, you're experiencing the full Bourbon Street treatment. It is always loud at night, especially, on the weekends.

The Davenport Lounge features excellent, easy, accomplished jazz courtesy of Jeremy Davenport and his quartet most (but not all) evenings. The food in the restaurant is excellent (as is the service), and staff throughout the venue and spa are top notch - friendly, courteous, uniformly professional. One of the great things is location - it is a very short walk to the crazy of the French Quarter, but a block away - so you have the safety, privacy, and isolation from the party when you need it, you aren't confronted by it as soon as you walk out the door of the hotel, but you are just a short walk around the corner to everything the Quarter and Bourbon Street have to offer. As an historic building, the architecture and aesthetic is much closer to "elegant old New Orleans" than, say, the Four Seasons (very very modern, almost cold presentation) or, for example, the Royal Sonesta which is smack dab in the middle of the crazy. When we come back to NOLA, it will be to the Ritz Carlton.

But the staff at the Ritz were the most hospitable and welcoming set of people I have ever met. The concierge sent me texts and welcomed any requests I had. And the wonderful staff left a sweet treat in my room for my birthday. There was coffee served in the lobby every morning, and warm beignets served in the afternoons. I can't wait to come back to this gem! Thank you all for such a wonderful and much needed experience!
