The positive is that this place is pretty clean and it looks like an airbnb. We got a room with a fireplace . The negatives: If you like mildew smell on the linens, then this place is for you. They smell like the linens were left in the washer too long and then dried. We couldn't get rid of the smell from our pajamas. There's no onsite staff to get this corrected. The rooms do not have central air conditioning so many windows are open and there's a window fan. This means you hear all the noise outside. There's a train that runs all night long. Finally there was a loud humming sound that kept me up all night. Sounds like a condenser or something . For $370 a night, you expect better service and amenities. read more

This place was reasonably priced so my wife and I decided to give it a shot. There is no contact with anyone that works there, everything is done through phone, which was just fine with me. You get a parking spot and a key code to your door. Once inside you are greeted with a place that needs major work. The carpet is old and stained. The bed is really high off the ground and the furniture is worn. Because there is no air conditioning you have to open the windows, stripping away any perceived privacy. We were surrounded by other rooms, we either didn't have any neighbors or they were really quiet. I was able to hear someone talking through the wall as a mumble, but that went away. Because of the seemingly thin walls I avoided watching the laughably small and awkwardly hung t.v. The worst part was the bathroom which because of the ac situation makes you open a window that stares directly at the door of your neighbor. They do have a nice enough lobby area with some coffee and snacks as well as a good place to sit an enoy them. The location is the selling point, very close to the beach and a few blocks away from downtown, I didn't use a car while there. That was great. They also have a really cool rooftop hangout area with chairs to sit and relax. For what it's worth, my wife liked this place more then I did. read more

Ok, so when I walked in all I could think was how it reminded me of Grandma's house. The bathroom was very clean, but there was a very odd smell to the room. It reminded me of when my boys were teenagers and s they'd get hot and sweaty. That dirty tube sock smell! We turned on the fireplace and at first it seemed nice, but there was obviously dirt coming out of it, because my allergies started to rage. This place has potential, but it needs a lot!! read more

During a very warm and humid weekend we stayed 2 nights in "Laguna", an upstairs room. There is no AC in this room. The ceiling fan over the bed has a bright light that came on by itself 3 times during the middle of the night. We finally shut it off. The electric fireplace would not shut off. The carpet was horribly stained. The fitted sheet kept coming off as the elastic was stretched out.... It .... I could go on. It was awful. I wish there was a negative star rating. We happened on this at the last minute on booking.com. They had one room left and I'm so glad we got it. It's a short walk (about 3 blocks) from the beach. It's very cozy and comfortable. I've stayed in Carlsbad before, but what a gem! I'll be staying here again. It's two blocks from the beach, the self checkout process is amazing. Our drive took way too long and we got in very late. Always our favorite spot to come back to. Rooms are always clean and welcoming. Nancy was always so sweet and we enjoyed visiting with her and her pups. Was sad to learn she had sold but happy for her. We will miss your warm and loving smile. On the other hand we still received a nice warm greeting from the new manager but was very disappointed to learn no more wonderful breakfasts. We will miss that. Everything was very peaceful and quiet. The room was spacious, with a big bath tub and a dressing table/desk area with outlets if you do need to do some work. There is power outside as well if you prefer to work in the fresh air. Guests and host wore masks. For breakfast each morning (which is homemade), I had the option of taking a tray to my room, to the back patio, the rooftop terrace, or staying in the front room (seating was spaced apart). Food was always good :-) Host asked if I wanted my room fluffed each day, I declined but it is included if you want it. She has a very cute smaller dog. The beach and Carlsbad village are a very short ~10 minute walk; during the day it's busy but early in the morning and the hour or so before sunset it was quiet and cool. Grub hub delivers here if you don't want to go out - I ordered excellent food from Taste of the Himalayas one night. All in all, a nice respite from the craziness in the world, it was easy to avoid contact with people and feel safe. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back! read more

We always stay at hotels, and I am so happy we didn't this weekend. My parents had encouraged me and my wife to get out of town for the weekend for my birthday. We found this place after searching a bit on a few sites. We kept reading about someone named Nancy, and hearing about the rooms and the breakfast. Here to tell you, it's all true. Nancy is phenomenal. Period. The rooms are marvelous as are the amenities. Everything is well kept and feels first-rate in all respects. While we didn't take full advantage during our time there. For example, there are beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels for anyone looking to hit the water. Nancy also puts together one hell of a breakfast, and you have the option of sitting in the adorable garden out back, or even in the gazebo. I've stayed at hundreds of hotels and you start to forget what a "warm" stay feels like. The Marriott is fine, as is a Hyatt or Sheraton. AirBnB is OK, but those are often hit or miss. This is something different. Everything was adorable and made you feel at home. That included the cute mugs we chose for our coffee in the morning, to the fact she left a stack of candy in our room given it was right around Halloween when we stayed. Nancy cares tremendously about her guests, and you definitely feel it. We even had the pleasure of spending some time with one of her adorable dogs at breakfast. Lucy is the best. As for the location, it's perfect. Everything is walking distance from the hotel. We consider ourselves foodies, and did a food tour during our time in Carlsbad, but also tried as many places as possible. We counted up 15 restaurants, bars, and cafes we visited during our two nights there. Not once did we use our car to get around. We will unequivocally be back again, potentially with a large group. Rooms are really great and the property is very nice. I loved this place when it had the breakfast because it was quaint, secluded, comfortable rooms, quiet and the breakfast outside in the courtyard was worth every penny. Now breakfast is not included and that is sorely missed. For the price, it would be better to choose a place on the ocean. I really like it here, but without the breakfast and no human contact at all it seems like just another Airbnd. Nice, but nothing that special. The location is good, it is close to the village and the ocean, easy to walk to everything. The beds are comfortable and the place is very clean and well maintained. Many things!! Parking tight; very tight! Had to close outside mirrors and back in so that car next to me could get in and out with minimal risk. Somewhat unkept. Walked into Del Mar room and very obvious stain in carpet. No AC which we were aware of but fan was closer to door and not near bed. Room was warm but bed was the most uncomfortable bed I ever, ever slept in. Traveled many years and slept in many rims/on beds. Scale of 1-10 (10 being worst), it was an 11. No person on site to express concerns with. Will never stay here again!! Also, when I decided to sleep on couch, had two instances of a spider or spiders on my arm. I do not do this very often but maybe 4 times in past 15 years. After a few messages to the property, I finally received a phone call and ONG, the girl was very defensive from the get go. My wife sitting right next to me could hear the conversation and was blown away. She, the property contract, admitted that the parking is a problem but nothing she could do about it. Agreed about the large stain as you walk in. Said yes, the bed is very soft but since people like it. It is sooooo soft I felt like I was in a cartoon. I stated that if this is intended to be a "romantic" getaway, why place the bed on the same wall as the fireplace. Please it on the opposite wall and note you can experience the fireplace AND right near the fan. I think she began getting angry since these were good ideas and she never thought of them. My wife NEVER, EVER complains.... She did on this property. Sincerely, they could have offered us a free night (and I told her), we would not accept. Be careful to check out the room in person before committing as you may not end up with what you were hoping for. read more

This place has had a change of ownership. What once was a quaint bed and breakfast is now a motel. The former owner used to offer breakfast and mingle with guests. That is what made this place great. Now you are sent a text with your room code, no breakfast anymore. We will be staying somewhere else next time we come to Carlsbad. read more

We had a multiple confirmations, with prices, and held the rooms with a card. The property was sold and the new owners TRIPLED the price of the rooms three weeks before our wedding, no regard for our existing contract and no human kindness. The manager, Kunal, was lovely and did all he could to help us but ultimately the new owners wouldn't budge- we had to pay triple or they'd cancel our reservations. My family had to scramble to find last minute accommodations three weeks before a holiday weekend so they could attend my wedding. We run a small business and have never heard of a business disregarding existing contracts and massively up-charging like this last minute. Save yourself the headache and book at one of the other lovely places in the area or at an Air Bnb. read more

There isn't enough room on Yelp to fully express how amazing our stay at Pelican was and the extraordinary details that Nancy accommodated to create a memorable experience. My husband and I wanted to spend an evening alone for our wedding anniversary and saw this B&B (and all the fabulous reviews) to book. Nancy was so thoughtful from the ease of booking, to the understanding and flexibility that I was 40 weeks' pregnant and may have to cancel our reservation. Luckily we were able to stay (our daughter made her entrance to the world right after check out!) the room was spotless and cozy, the bed incredibly comfortable, and walking distance to the Village and beach is a huge plus. Breakfast was delicious and she packed the most special picnic lunch for us the following day. Will absolutely stay here again! Highly recommend!! read more

I always wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast and go to Legoland. Found the Pelican Cove Bed and Breakfast online and it was in the perfect location, close to Legoland and walking distance to downtown and the beach. It definitely exceeded my expectations, we really had a great time! The rooms were larger then I expected and I liked how they had the upstairs patio and backyard patio to have breakfast. The food was excellent too and loved the presentation. It was my birthday weekend so they gave us a bottle of my favorite almond champagne. Would definitely recommend, we loved the Park 101 bar too in downtown. We will definitely be back soon!!! Thanks again! read more

I highly recommend this place!! The owners are great people.. We are victims from the Carlsbad fire we were evacuated for our home and we were looking for a place to say last minute. Even though we arrived at 11 PM The owner had everything ready for us and really take care of us. It took thousand pounds of stress off me. Knowing that we had a beautiful place to stay was such a relief.. They really take care of us we stayed in a beautiful room and I can't describe how delicious the breakfast was!! It was so amazing.. What an amazing little spot we found when we were hanging out in Carlsbad for Legoland and outlet shopping. We booked the Laguna room the day-of with no problems whatsoever. We've never been to a Bed & Breakfast before so this was the perfect opportunity for us. Nancy is so sweet and accommodating. We felt so welcomed here. Plus her dogs are so adorable. Plenty of parking is available on the street or at the inn. We were walking distance from the beach and Carlsbad Village which is nice. The Laguna room gave us everything we needs for a comfortable night stay. Clean and comfortable bed. Nice couch. Fire place when it's cold. Clean bathroom. We enjoyed our breakfast underneath the gazebo on a beautiful May morning. The Cottage Cheese Pancakes with grilled peaches were delicious. I'm glad that Nancy shares the recipes online. 100% would come back here again when we are in town and I would recommend this inn to my friends. read more

In the lobby she always has homemade goodies under a glass plate or container. We had such a lovely stay at Pelican Cove Inn this week. Like most families during this pandemic, we've been sheltering at home and were in great need of a change of scenery and pace. We took our 2 and 7 year olds with us and stayed in the Del Mar Room for 2 nights (checked in on Wednesday and checked out on Friday). It was perfect. The location is literally a short walk into Carlsbad Village (walk 2 blocks and you're standing underneath the large Carlsbad sign). A short walk in the other direction and you're sitting on a wide expansive beach with lots of opportunity to enjoy the sand and waves while still social distancing. Nancy was so welcoming and kind. She made sure we had towels for the beach, let us use their beach gear and toys (boogie boards, chairs, shovels, buckets, etc.), and just made us feel right at home. The breakfast each morning was delicious!!! And, knowing that our kiddos maybe had a different taste in food, offered smaller portions for them or different options (cereal, hard boiled eggs, fruit, etc.). We ate out on the gazebo the first morning, and inside in the lobby dining table the second morning. Nancy knew that we had several birthdays being celebrated since quarantine began. My husband turned 40 in April, my son turned 7 in May, and my daughter is turning 3 in early August. She was so thoughtful and brought us chilled bottles of champagne and sparkling apple cider for the kids! What a treat! Overall this place was fantastic and we'll absolutely be back! read more

Nacy's place is amazing. She is a great host, super sweet and very patient and accommodating. She even catered to our group's dietary needs for breakfast. Food was delicious.
