On vacation. Just the girls, no kids kind of night and stopped in here for a drink or two or three, maybe even 4. I stopped counting.. 4 pool tables and a dance floor. Plenty of high top seating and about 8 televisions. We came on karaoke night. Great time, good strong drinks. I didn't pay so I can't tell you if there reasonable. Definitely enjoyed my night. Saturday November 22 we were hanging out outside on the patio and I saw a man come to find out later is the owner of this establishment, yelling in a woman's face. Another gentleman calmly interjected and was immediately kicked out. We paid our tab and left and a few days later our 79$ tab (after tip) cleared for 99$. My wife and I went to the Pelican Lounge for the first time this evening, and we were thoroughly impressed. Let's be clear, it is pretty much a locals dive bar. Dive bar is an affectionate description for me. The bartender, Cazy, I think went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. That isn't the reason I felt compelled to leave a review. Because I don't often leaves reviews, good or bad. The menu is limited, but the food we had was stellar. My wife had a 1/2 pound burger and fries, and I had a Philly and fries. The Philly was in the top 3 I have ever had. The meat was great and the bread was wonderful. My wife really enjoyed her burger, and the sourdough bun was great. However, as good as our sandwich and burger were the fries stole the show. They are hand cut and seasoned wonderfully. We talked to the cook who seemed to take pride in the fact the fries were still whole potatoes yesterday. If you are hungry after leaving the beach/island in Corpus, do yourself a favor and stop at Pelicans. Remember, it is a bar and not a place for kids. read more

After having first been at Farah's, I wasn't sure what to expect from the "Pelicant." What greeted me was a hoppin crowd, loads of hotties and a Texas country band. In a word: partttttayyyyyyyy. The place was crazy crowded but those bartenders were moving around at light speed. We ordered shots and drinks and made friends and stayed until they absolutely kicked us out. The Pelican Lounge is a typical, two-dimensional bar in South Texas. Both dimensions involve its patronage, characterized first by self-adulating, horny student military aviators (and, of course, their equally overconfident instructors), as well as folks creeping along the edge of retirement. Friday and Saturday nights are loud and raucous, especially past midnight. Weekday nights are more tame and better for talking or - the Pelican's claim to fame - a shuffleboard match on one of its two tables. Bottom line: don't expect anything novel in the way of alcohol; if you are female looking to get laid, go here; if you are old and want to live vicariously through young men chasing tail, this is your place. read more

A classy spot for the beach bum on the ever expensive island. It's funny when people in the island area refer to the Corpus as too far as it reminds me of inner loopers in Houston saying the same thing about everything outside of the loop. Give those types a splash of beach attitude and there you go. The band was jamming 80s and early 90s hits more less comprised of amateur musicians. most everyone has a great time and will dance the night away. Crowd is mixed. There was a fight outside in the parking lot when I was there. It was over pretty quickly. Nobody seemed very phased by it. Drinks are standard as any. Pretty decent place to hang out with a cool group of people or to just meet some locals. They have pool, darts, shuffleboard, and a stage where live music or karaoke takes over the nights. There's also a patio which is actually the smoking area so I never get to enjoy my drinks with fresh air. There are some older folks that like to get their shimmy on despite the fact they left their dentures at home. Nevertheless, they are cool folks with awesome stories and some money to buy you drinks with. I just don't like the smoke that surround the entrance and the inside can be dark. read more

As Doug points out, this seems like it would be a very typical Southern bar. However, I had a more than a typical night because this bar has Table Shuffleboard! What an awesome bar game! Naturally, I was nearly undefeated the entire night. My drunk athleticism is something to be seen, as we know. Good groove, good amount of people that seemed to be a lot of locals which is always refreshing to me since I travel non stop I don't want to see a bunch of tourist acting dumb all the time. This bar was tolerable, and shuffle board was pretty much the only reason to go. Other than watching people make fools of themselves with karaoke. There are a lot of military looking guys around, so yeah, it has a weird crowd all in all. Not a very good selection of beer, but the bartenders were nice, and actually knew me by name after my first visit, which was nice I suppose. A dirty dive bar that has mostly middle aged locals and young military guys in packs of ten. They usually have live music and dancing on the weekends and at times the place can be pretty packed and fun, other times it's empty except for some creepy old men. Hit or miss kinda place, but there's always shuffle board and big buck hunter to be played at the dirty bird. read more

Friday and Saturday nights are always fun and exciting. The live music is some of the best Corpus has to offer whether it's Oso Texas, Lyrical Bynge, Cruise Control or another local band. The patio rocks with flat screens, bar and a view of the city skyline across the bay. It's always packed on weekends and the crowds vary in age from early 20s to 50s. That means everybody's got a chance to hook up if that's why you are going to a bar on the island. The food is actually very good for a bar. Don't bother going there before 10 though.
