Cute little place to stop in for lunch. We make pierogi homemade so it's hard to be fair! You get a good amount. We ordered potato and meat. Couldn't really tell the difference between the two. They have sour cream portioned out in the beverage fridge for you. They primarily boil them and put butter on top. They will add hot sauce and cilantro if you want. We opted out of those. They come out steaming hot! The person making the pierogi was friendly and took orders too! She was busy! Definitely something to try when in Sitka, especially if you walked through the local Forrest and need a snack!

I was pretty excited for Pel'meni after seeing it on a YouTuber's channel at their Juneau location. When we arrived, the dumplings were already portioned out in styrofoam containers. Not sure how long they were sitting on the counter but they were pretty cold and hardened by the time we dug in. I asked what the recommended toppings were and was told everything: butter, cilantro, sriracha vinaigrette, curry powder and sour cream. Usually, the more the merrier when it comes to condiments for me, but this combo was a bit strange. Service is no nonsense, not the friendliest. Seating is minimal. We had to take ours to go and eat it two blocks down at the visitors center.

Stopped here while wandering around Sitka! Got the $9 potato dumplings w/o cilantro & they were a tasty treat to get out of the cold. Definitely recommend eating with sour cream. Service was very friendly & fast. Overall, a quick and yummy stop I would recommend to anyone in Sitka!

Yummy! You have a choice of potato or meat dumplings. Max loved the potato and I loved the meat. We aren't spicy fans so we opted out on the chili sauce. It's a small place next to the church. Go to your right when you get to the roundabout. Because we got in early, service was fast. Don't miss this Russian Dumpling treat.

Pel'meni is a bit hard to describe to the uninitiated but it's basically flavorful little dumpling things. Order the beef with everything on them and don't look back! Unless you're a vegetarian then order the potato if you must. The place has a little coffee shop like ambience, and expect to wait an inexplicable 10-20 minutes for your Pel'meni but it's delicious and I can't stop coming back.

Great tasting pel'meni, but unfortunately that's all they sell. Very pricey and you're not allowed to get half-and-half just one type. This establishment only sits 49 people, very crowded and warm inside. Also, the only two workers were very stressed out and didn't look too happy...we waited about 10 minutes to 15 minutes for our order. They also sell refreshments (water/soda) but very pricey, bring your own water. I was just passing by on a cruise port stop.

Beef or potato, you can't go wrong. Order both with everything on it. It's delicious. Small shop with limited seating. One person working the counter and making orders. Pay in cash and see them ring you up with their old timey cash register.

Quite possibly the most affordable meal in Sitka! At $9 per order you can't beat the value! Pel Meni is located in Downtown Sitka across from Wells Fargo Bank and behind the church. They are open late and have 1 thing on the menu- Russian dumplings. You can pick either the potato dumplings or beef and you get a generous serving of about 16 of these gems. They are topped with curry powder and hot sauce and served with a side of sour cream and a slice of rye bread. We ordered 1 of each and preferred the beef just a tad more. Both were delicious and satisfying. Parking can be tricky- however there is a larger lot near the post office towards the opposite end of the strip. Gotta give Pel Meni a try. You won't be disappointed!

I had seen this place as a recommendation for when I was in town and I'm glad I stopped. For $9 you can get a bowl of the Russian dumplings in either potato or beef. We tried both and they were each excellent. Small place inside but we shared a table with another visitor and had a nice chat. All the restaurants in town were hopping with cruise tourists but this place did a quick business and almost no wait. Come here for a more local experience!

Not far from St John's cathedral. Came here ordered the beef Russian dumplings to try with everything. Came with 16 dumplings for $9 a pretty good deal. The register the cashier used was really antique and interesting. Took about 15 minutes for the food to come out and we all enjoyed the dumplings. Definitely would come back, by myself for a full meal could probably eat two orders, but pretty good as a snack.

Great local business in Sitka! $9 Russian dumpling plates topped with butter, sriracha, curry powder, and cilantro. Really unique dish with fast and friendly service. The dumplings are chewy, delicious, flavorful, and explosions of savory chewiness. We ordered both the potato and beef-filled dumplings. I thought the potato ones were particularly tasty. Please come if you're in the area with your cruise, tourbus, or other travel group. Seems like a place locals stop by as well. Husband's Review: "The beef is very flavorful, and the topping make the dumplings taste great. Great price too. 5/5."

Very small, no frills place. The service was minimal. The potato pel meni were creamy and delicious, especially with the addition of the complimentary sour cream. It comes with a slice of pumpernickel bread, but I didn't understand its purpose as it seemed unnecessary.
We wanted to try out the food here. It was a super easy menu beef or potato. Then you pick the sauce that goes on them. The service was friendly. There was a bit of a wait right after they opened. If you wait a little the crowd dies down. The place was small with 5-6 tables. Standing room for those waiting for their order. I'm glad we tried them out. read more

The atmosphere is extremely off putting. Children run the store with vulgar music blaring. Disappointed so much, the food didn't make up for the bad atmosphere. read more

Two choices, both good. We had "everything" on them. Liked the beef best but both were great. Nice stop in a quaint town.

Tiny little place with great service and good food. Simple menu with a choice of potato or beef dumplings and a few toppings served with a slice of bread. I recommend trying the dumplings with all the toppings but if you're not a fan of curry then stick to butter and sour cream but the dusting of curry powder really ups the flavor. If you're cruising to the area and you've never tried Russian dumplings give it a try, it's a nice break from all the cruise food you've been eating. Be warned, they only have a few tables inside but these little dumplings can easily be eaten on your walk as you explore Sitka. read more

Stopped by here while in this port, and was completely disappointed. Not real pelmeni. Very little meat and very thick, undercooked dough. Service was terrible, told us the wait was 10 min, we came 25 min later and food was not ready. Asked the girl who was boiling the pelmeni if it was ready and she was really rude. Waited about 20 more minutes and finally got our 15 pelmeni to be super disappointed. Don't recommend! Go somewhere else. read more
This is my last Pel' Meni to visit and I cannot recommend it enough. The restaurant is warm and welcoming, the service quick with helpful staff, and the food is the high quality we can all expect of the Pel'Meni franchise. A great stop for tasty food in Sitka, and one of the only late nights restaurants! read more

I tried the potato and beef and still can't decide which is my favorite. Both were great. It's simple, it's inexpensive, it's great comfort food. Not much atmosphere or customer service, but it's truly not needed. $11, beef or potato, plain or loaded. And bonus points for being one of the few Sitka restaurants open late! read more

Banger! We tried both potato and beef and each of us preferred the other, so I'd recommend getting a split of potato/beef, both are quite good. The second time around I went a little lighter on the toppings, since the pel'meni were already so standout on their own! Also scalding hot, I watched them come right out of the giant pot, steaming hot both times, which was awesome in the snowy cold. read more

The food is obviously pretty good. But seating is scarce and if you're coming from a cruise, there'll be an abundance of self-righteous White people. So keep watching the tables to be able to get one. read more

Ok.. wow. $9 bucks for these incredible dumplings. I am in town visiting and would rather come here then sit in a restaurant. It's a walk up and wait about 10 minutes for the dumplings to be made but who cares!!! $9 for dumplings (only 2 choices meat or potato) and a $2 drink... I'm sold!!!! read more

Dumplings with late hours! I love the fresh dumplings that they make here both potato or hamburger. Don't forget the sour cream and a sprinkle of curry powder to make it legit! read more
Whatever your thoughts on the Russian/Ukraine situation should not keep you from having a quick bite here. We're talking about a small hole-in-the-wall kind of business being run by one man operating three burners (usually four but one is out of commission). The menu is practically non-existent, Potato Dumplings (Pel'meni) or Beef Dumplings (Pel'meni). Toppings are butter, Siracha, cilantro and sour cream. Our recommendation? Ask for everything and get a container of sour cream to use as a dipping sauce. Yummilicious! read more

The wait wasn't that long even though they were busy. I tried both the potato and beef dumplings with all toppings on them. I was blown away by how delicious they were. This was my first time trying pelmeni or anything Russian. The prices were fair too. Definitely worth stopping in to warm your belly on a cold day. read more

First time trying pel'meni and was not disappointed! The kind gentleman working there allowed us to order half potato and half beef (which he said normally they don't do). We opted for all the toppings, including a side of sour cream. OMG the dumplings were surprisingly delicious! They were served piping hot in a small styrofoam container with a slice of bread, topped with a mix of butter, cilantro, sriracha vinaigrette, and curry powder. The mix of flavors worked well together with the small hot pillows of yummy goodness...I can see how pel'meni is a comfort food for many. read more

Oh my gosh! To die for! This is a must visit and you will always be happy! This is a hidden gem on the beaten path and looks very unassuming from the outside. Literally two menu items to choose from and I'm guessing you can never go wrong with either one! The only other one I've seen is in Juneau and I was so excited to get this here too! Definitely the most affordable meal in Sitka and trust me, this will fill you up! read more

Pelmeni are my soul food and when we were visiting Alaska, we found this little place and they nailed it. Friendly, quick service. Felt at home, nothing fancy, but nice, clean, and welcoming. read more
Yum! This place was nearby and we decided to try their dumplings. It was the first time I've ever tried Russian food and I was pleasantly surprised! Tao, our server, was so friendly and suggested we try potatoes and beef dumplings with everything on it. I'm glad we went with her suggestion because it was delicious. It was definitely a nice afternoon snack along our walk in Sitka and there are many cute shops nearby to explore. We will be back! read more

Super simple concept and delicious dumplings. Open late (which is hard to find anywhere open past 9pm). Walk in, choose beef or potato... choose your toppings ... butter, curry powder, sriacha, cilantro or get everything and be like the locals... $8 per serving and i promise you will leave full and happy!!! If you are in Sitka and want a quick bite, midnight snack or a yummy warm lunch stop in to this place... it's really good! read more
Despite what Palin may tell you, the Russians have left Alaska a long, long time ago. All that remains are historic Russian Orthodox Churches and...increasingly: Russian Dumpling places that are open real, real late! Apparently this place has the same owner as the one in Anchorage. You get dumplings for under $10 and, on Fridays, they are open till after midnight. Great place to hit after a night of bar hopping, or, for a midnight snack since they are probably the only place in Sitka open past 10pm read more
We saw this place on a travel channel program, and so we had to try it when our cruise ship docked in this town. The Russian dumplings were absolutely amazing. We ordered the potato filled ones, they also come with beef. The come topped with butter, sriracha, curry powder, and cilantro. The server was prompt, friendly and efficient. The dumplings are made to order and absolutely delicious. This is certainly one of those places that we will return to if we are ever in the area again. read more
There are only a few places to grab a quick, reasonably-priced lunch in Sitka, and none are likely to be as good as Pelmeni. We thought it was going to be a tourist trap (as most of Sitka seems to be), and were more than surprised at how reasonable and tasty our lunch was. We split and order of the beef filled dumplings, topped with butter, curry powder, and cilantro (we skipped the sriracha). Yum! read more
I really like this place and I love the concept. Certain foods are underrated and difficult to find in most places, pierogies are delicious and vastly underrated. This spot is open until 2am, and keeps it simple, but good. They have beef or potato pierogies (or both) and the options of butter, cilantro, Sriracha, or curry (or any combo) for toppings. The staff was cool, sodas were a dollar and for sitka, AK, the price on the food was great. I had an order of the beef and an order or the potato, both with "the works." Both were very good, and the bread that comes with them was delicious as well. I do, however feel that the pierogies needed a little more salt...it was lacking in in that area. I'm not sure, because I don't have inside info, but I think the butter they use is unsalted, that alone would've made a huge difference. Either way, an awesome place with a great concept. read more

A "hidden" gem in downtown Sitka right behind St. Michaels. So many people walk by and don't realize what they are missing out on!! The dumplings are amazing and they have seats inside to sit and enjoy the food. Highly recommend!!! read more
