Best restaurant in Sitka by far. Chef Blanco is amazing. We brought our own fish, and he cooked them to perfection. He understands flavors and textures beautifully. We had salmon, halibut and two different types of cod, and each dish was unique and wonderful. The chef is not pretentious at all, and came by our table to talk to us (very cool in my book). The specialty drinks (regular and mocktails) were outstanding. The servers (Blake and Lance) were super friendly and also down to earth. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the ocean views are incredible. One of the best meals we've had anywhere in a long time! read more

If a 5-star Michelin restaurant and the bar from Cheers had a baby, it would be the Channel Club. It's the kind of place with amazing views and lovely ambiance, fancy craft cocktails and an extensive wine menu, superb food, and yet - you walk in to a friendly greeting and pretty much everyone knows your name. I mean, not everyone knew MY name - I'm not a local after all - but you get the idea. And yes, Sitka is a small town so I'm guessing everyone knows pretty much everyone everywhere, but still. Friendly smiles and a decidedly relaxed atmosphere for the excellent quality of food and table service. This place feels so much like a hidden local gem that I might exposing a well-kept secret here. Hopefully the locals let me return despite blabbing about this place to all the yelpers. One small caveat: they are only open seasonally so if you're planning to go make sure you call ahead and check their hours. read more

We stopped at the Channel Club as part of a tour while in port at Sitka. The restaurant is between the port and downtown making it an easy stop. This popular restaurant serves fresh seafood and other fare in a nice relaxed environment. Generous parking is available behind the restaurant. Our menu included grilled fresh salmon. This was locally caught white king salmon grilled and served over rice with a lemon sauce. The food was delicious and allowed for a sampling of Alaskan beers too. I'm not big on drinking early so the great staff brought me a hot cup of coffee instead. We also got a demonstration by the chef about the salmon and how he cuts and prepares the fish. The restaurant is right on the coast with large windows facing the water. This makes for a nice eating experience and a good stop for those on a tour or independents. They said the place is popular with local groups which also says a lot. Channel Club is a great stop when in Sitka. You can get fresh fish and a great view in a nice setting. For the reviews that say this place is expensive- everything in Sitka is expensive and this spot has top notch food, drinks, service AND a view! My group had the white salmon, halibut Olympia and a filet. The halibut Olympia was the epitome of perfect and you'll likely never find white salmon anywhere else (also amazing). Entrees come with soup and salad and they had an assortment of desserts to choose from. Of all the things we ordered I felt that the fried Oreos were pretty standard. Nothing to write home about but if you've never had a fried Oreo, give them a shot. Overall would highly recommend. read more

Four of us came in on a Friday night. The place was packed, so we sat at the bar. We had pork belly, lamb lollipops, a burger and a Caesar salad. All the food was great. But even more impressive was the bartender Talia. She was so busy, but did her job with such efficiency and with a smile on her face. I haven't seen a bartender that good in years. Fantastic customer service with free shuttle from our hotel to the restaurant. Food was magnificent. King Salmon on the first visit and rib eye steak on the 2nd. I can honestly say those were the best two meals I have had in a very long time. Wait staff was courteous and friendly and efficient. Ambiance was superb. Our table by the window overlooked the water. Every table had an excellent view of the ocean. The owner came by to check on how we were doing. Very friendly and helpful. Beautiful and spacious restaurant. We sat at a table with a beautiful view! The customer service was outstanding from the front desk to the wait staff. They will even pick you up from your hotel or lodge free of charge but don't forget to tip the driver! He was wonderful! What service! The food was outstanding. We had to tweak a dish a bit because we were fishing the next day and didn't want to eat anything too heavy and rich in case we encountered rough waters which we did by the way and the chef total delivered! The good: They pick you up, which in Sitka can be helpful. Nice view, seems like a nice family. Nice family place. It feels like a place, not just another restaurant. The food: It's good but not consistently off the wall. The seafood was not as amazing and I would have expected for a local place with local connections. So everything good but nothing that was especially memorable. And it's not cheap, especially if you have a drink or two. There are not loads of restaurants in Sitka so I'd definitely try this one if you're there for a bit. If for just one meal, I'd think about exactly what you're looking for. read more

Great atmosphere and views , while visiting town there are so many good places to eat but the Channel club would most likely the most high end experience. The view while at any table is breathtaking absolutely picture perfect. The food was amazing I ordered halibut cheeks which are comparable to scallops, I have never seen them before at any other restaurant I have dined at. One of the fancy places in Sitka. Open only during the summer to catch the tourist crowd and some special times like the Christmas holidays during the remainder of the year.. Puts me in mind of Lands End in Homer, Ray's in Seward or Simon and Seaforts in Anchorage.. Classy interior and exquisite views of the water. The Channel Club is a bit out of the downtown but it's a pleasant drive. Warm atmosphere. Our in-town hosts knew the server, Upscale foodie type prep of the fish and meat. While known for their steaks, we all got fish. I mean, we're in Sitka during fishing season. Gotta do the fresh fish. I got the Lobster Mac, not a local species, but well prepared and decadent to boot. All very tasty. Prices commensurate with off-the-road system Alaska. Yelp says this place is closed but it is most definitely not. We walked over from where we were staying and I am glad we did because we had the best seafood dinner here. We got halibut cheeks and king salmon and both were very delicious. The halibut cheeks, I never had them, were meaty and like scallops, just like our great waiter said. He was very personable and answered all of our questions and did a fantastic job. Unfortunately, we didn't have reservations but we were able to eat in the bar area and, mind you, we came right when they opened so the place was only starting to fill up. The drinks were great, too! The place offers fine dining but people seemed to be dressed fairly casual. We had dinner on our last night in Sitka and this was the perfect meal to top it off! I will definitely be passing through the next time I come to Sitka but I will be sure to call for reservations first. read more

Channel Club is a fantastic place for a wonderful dinner when in Sitka. The menu is outstanding. The view is equally outstanding. The salad bar is always fresh and delicious. This particular evening there was Salmon Chowder for the soup and it was awesome. The staff are superb in every way. We were on a cruise & stopped at the Channel Club at the end of our excursion . It was the BEST meal we had all week . The Viking Cruise we were on had AWFUL food and not much of a selection . The chef at the Channel demonstrated how to prepare the "wild white salmon " that we had never cooked . it was wonderful !!!! served over a bed of rice with a lemon sauce . So good , if I lived in Sitka I would eat here often , in fact I'm going to call & see if he will share his recipe for the sauce as it was so light & perfect for the Salmon . read more

I liked the Channel Club. It was highly recommended by Sitka locals and I was not disappointed. They have a large soup and salad bar with a very good salmon chowder. I had the prime rib, my buddy had the fisherman's platter. Both were very good. They cook their meat over a wood flame grill which imparts a subtle smoky flavor to the meat. The blue cheese mashed potatoes were very rich, almost too much flavor. The service was attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was upscale. They also have a full bar with a good selection of beer and wine. I plan on returning the next time I visit Sitka. read more

I'm a bit conflicted about how to review this restaurant. I suppose it's telling that I'm a local and don't dine here often because, bottom-line, the food is the primary reason for going (or not). This restaurant changed hands about a decade ago. Prior to the change, Channel Club was known as a steak house: the atmosphere was cafeteria-like, with picnic benches, and the servers would hand you a small Ziplock out of their apron if you asked for a to-go box. But the steaks were predictably excellent and the salad bar was the most impressive I've seen in any establishment, ever...the variety and completeness was mind-blowing. The potatoes were sometimes inedible and the cooks microwaved the seafood, but hey...the steaks and salad bar were great, and one could choose to overlook the rest simply because they knew several items were excellent, 100% of the time. Since the ownership change and remodel, the atmosphere has been upgraded considerably, and the bar in particular is inviting and pleasant. I consistently receive excellent service, excellent cocktails, and excellent fries. For me, that's where the consistency ends. Steaks and hamburgers have been cooked to mine and my party's specification about 25% of the time. It has never been "off" enough that we have sent anything back, and I would not think too much about a one-off; but a 25% success rate on the proper time to cook a piece of meat is not what I'd consider successful or acceptable. The salad bar is included with most entrees, and while I have had a few good soups from it, the salad bar itself is quite unimpressive...scarcely worth getting up to fetch. The restaurant might find it more cost-effective to simply include an already-prepared dinner salad or soup option, and eliminate the expense and prep time associated with the salad bar as it currently stands. Perhaps this restaurant suffers unfairly based on comparisons to its predecessor, which it may not be trying to be. They certainly do not microwave seafood, the service is pleasant and attentive, I've never had an inedible potato, and take-home's are kindly boxed by the servers (no more Ziplocks ;) ). But the prices are on the higher end...and if I'm prepared to pay that, and if I'm prepared to overlook the mediocre salad bar, I think it's appropriate to expect my steak or burger to be cooked to my request. Perhaps it's tough to get and keep professionals in the kitchen. Bonus: the restaurant provides a van that will pick customers up and take them home. read more

We have been going to the channel club for many years now. I was so disappointed this year. We have been twice this year as the first time I thought it might just be a bad night night but the second time proved to be just as disappointing. My husband steak was tough and not cooked properly. Two in our party had fish and chips and the batter was so thick and greasy with very little fish. The french fries that came with three of the meals were absolutely black and cooked in old oil.. this is a nice place that we enjoyed so often in in the past. The food this year made me very sad. Service was excellent and the surroundings are the best in town. They really need to do something about the kitchen. read more

As longtime Sitkans, we were excited when the new Channel Club opened. Contrary to other reviews, this isn't an 'upscale' restaurant. The interior looks much like an Extended Stay Hotel breakfast room. There is a smallish dark bar and counter and a standard salad bar. The first time we went to CC we ordered the fish and chips and a ribeye steak. The fish and chips weren't cooked hot enough so they were very soft and greasy. The ribeye came cold and didn't look quite like a restaurant quality, well marbled ribeye. Veggies and potatoes, standard faire that would come with any diner meal. The last time we went to CC we ordered burgers. Although the place was half empty it took 15 minutes to get the menus, 15 more to get served. Again, the meal was subpar and we had to twice ask the server for mustard and ketchup. This will probably be a fine place for tourists who are thrilled with their Alaskan adventure but there are other great restaurants that serve good steaks and seafood in Sitka. read more

The rushed atmosphere made the experience a bit unpleasant, with constant bussing of dishes and a dessert menu presented before some of our party had finished. First off, the White Salmon was to-die-for! The Crab Cakes, though a little too much horseradish for my liking, were also pretty great. The Calamari was made from cuts of large octopus steaks and weren't as chewy (not really what I was used to or expected - not my favorite). The Lobster Tail was undercooked and I had to spit out chunks of it. The cooked portion of the Lobster was also pretty disappointing - it was mushy and chewy at the same time (didn't taste fresh to me). My friend ordered the Fish and Chips and they were completely UNACCEPTABLE & INEDIBLE - the batter was extremely soggy and fell right off the fish. He had to take off all the fried soggy mush and only ate the fish inside (good quality fish). Since I had high expectations for this place, I was very disappointed with those two dishes! We had a window seat and it had a pretty nice view of the ocean. I want to take the time to compliment how efficient and polite the shuttle service drivers were. You can call the restaurant at least 15 mins before your reservation to have them pick you up anywhere you'd like for free. The driver ran around to open the door every time there was a drop off or pick up to put down a little stepping stool on the ground for the customers. Definitely tip generously! read more
