Pendy's perfectly describes itself as "an affordable middle to upper fare restaurant with the sense of welcome of a distinctive, laid-back private club." The menu consists of numerous high-end, elusive dishes. Prime rib is a mainstay on the menu, along with multiple cuts of steak. There's also plenty of seafood options, such as escargot, frog legs, mussels, oysters, swordfish, and more. Our server, Leanne, was professional and efficient, and truly added to the experience my wife and I had. We began our meal with a couple cocktails, Sarah's lemon drop and the espresso currupto. The lemon drop was intensely, but delightfully, sour, while the espresso currupto offered a refreshing blend of espresso and vodka. For our appetizer, we ordered escargot. The tastes of butter and garlic were distinct, and masked the earthiness escargot tends to have. We also got the French onion soup, which was legitimately the best I've ever had. Rather than a beef stock, Pendy's uses a veal stock that is made in house. For our entrees, we got the D.M.P. and frog legs. The D.M.P. is a double patty smash burger, and is named in honor of David Michael Pendy. David and his wife, Susan, opened Pendy's in August 2023, 2 weeks before his unexpected passing. The burger itself is one of the better ones I've had in the Pointes. The fries had the classic, thin cut and just the right amount of salt. The frog legs were large in size and flavorful, and came with sides of broccoli and mashed potatoes. I opted for the road house style over the Korean BBQ. I will say, I preferred the fries that came with the burger over the mashed potatoes. To top things off, we got the tiramisu ice cream cake. Although it was an enjoyable dessert, there was more of an "ice cream cake" taste to it than "tiramisu." I had high hopes for Pendy's, and yet, it exceeded my expectations. We expected better. The wait staff was friendly. The busser was not. When I come out for a dining experience I do not appreciate feeling rushed. It was clear that we barely touched out calamari and he came over and asked if we were done. Address communication with your staff and serving/bussing timing. The decor has been updated. Lighter, but still dark. Not unpleasant. Ok. The Boulliabaise had good base flavors. So, why so much salt. I could forgive the lack of white fish and crostini. But the salt was too much. Did they taste it? My spouses food was over salted too. It was also earlier than normal evening dining and they had no recommended dessert. For the price point I expect what I get in NY and Chicago. Fantastic again tonight! This is my go to for family dinners, drinks with friends, and business dinners. We went tonight with my 10 year old daughter. Oysters, escargot, osso bucco ravioli, and the filet. So great! Service was exceptional and the piece de resistance was Susan Pendy coming to the table to praise my daughter for being a foodie (my daughter was so happy!). The prime rib exceeded my expectations. Flavor was exquisite and tender. What can I say about the squash vegetable but it too exceeded expectations with a wonderful flavor and texture. We came here for our date night and so happy we did. The food, service, and ambiance all five stars. The piano player and the dimmed lighting set the mood. We didn't have reservations on a Saturday so they gave us the option of sitting at the bar, the piano bar, or a half booth table. I was just happy we were able to experience this new restaurant. At the end of dinner the owner and chef came by the table which added to the experience. We definitely want to come back and try other dishes and dessert. French onion soup and cocktails were great. I had the mushroom cavatappi with chicken. It was very average and bland. You could tell the noodles were overcooked. He had the lobster ravioli. It came out ice cold and tasted like it came from the freezer section. It was also only 5 average size ravioli. He had to finish all my pasta to be full. The service was alright. Staff was not very friendly. It was also freezing inside with the AC on, even though it was only 40 degrees outside. I will not be visiting again. The son should really watch the way he speaks about local GP bar staff, as well. Disrespectful. read more

We called ahead and were seated promptly. Drinks were tasty. However the service was underwhelming. We had to ask for water refills, appropriate flatware, and for them to turn off the AC which was fiercely blowing onto our table even though it was 55 degrees outside. I don't think I have ever been to a restaurant that served BOILED chicken on a Cobb salad. My friend's filet was undercooked and while they offered to fix it of course it came back overdone. The "owner/manager"? came to our table to ask how the steak was and when we told her it wasn't right she said, "Oh, that's too bad." and literally walked away. So strange. My wife and I and a group of friends recently tried Pendy's last Saturday night. The restaurant has a uniquely elegant feel while also making you feel right at home. Our group started out with a round of cocktails that hit the spot. Two of our friends loved the french onion soup and the shrimp scampi. My favorite part of the meal was the prime rib. Wow, but not in a good way. I debated writing this because everybody has an off night so we went back after a dismal first experience. Waste of time and money. Servers were great and highly apologetic, but it wasn't their fault that the kitchen can't figure out how to get temperatures and weighs correct. Over done pork, cold potatoes, filet was not 6 ounces even uncooked, lettuce was beyond wilted, wine had been opened too long and was skunked. They asked if I wanted it replaced with another glass. I said, "yes" and they charged me for 2... Really wanted Pendy's to succeed but unless they get a chef in there to justify their prices, it's just going to be another empty space along Mack. read more

Had a wonderful night out at Pendy's. The staff was amazing and extremely accommodating for our party of 16, which included little kids. Everything came out quick for the kids while we waited for part of our party to arrive and they kept checking back on us. The food was delicious! I got to try the tuna and calamari app which were both great. For my main entree I had the prime rib which was perfect. You have to try the hashbrowns with blue cheese! For dessert we had the tiramisu and lava cake which were both eaten in seconds! I would absolutely recommend them and will 100% be returning soon! read more

Before bringing our mother, who was visiting from out of town, here to dine for what we hoped with be a lovely holiday dinner I called the restaurant to ask about whether or not they had a kids menu and to see if they could accommodate our party. I spoke with the owner, Susan, who assured me that while they didn't have a specific kids menu that they would serve chicken tenders and French fries for my son who has a motor planning sensory disorder that effects how/what he can eat. When we got to the restaurant we ordered a drink and I asked the waiter to confirm that they could make this specific (promised food) for my son. He checked with the chef and came back and told us they could not. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Went to dinner with my 2.5 year old yesterday and enjoyed every moment of it. The staff was phenomenal and attentive. They brought out fries right away for my toddler (they were delicious by the way) and engaged with her through dinner. Sometimes things simply go wrong, and our dinner for 4 on a Friday night was a disaster. First, the good things: The martini was properly made and a good pour. The shrimp cocktail was excellent, with large tasty shrimp. But many things were not so good. The server thought we wanted all dishes at once, so we had a very long wait, then too much food all at once. And how was the food? The escargots, described as "traditional presentation," were almost inedible: the snails were overcooked, and there was no garlic butter, just a sticky sweet residue, and that is absolutely not "traditional." The Caesar salad was described as having anchovies, but there were none even though we had confirmed that we wanted them. And the $48 filet mignon, sold as 6 ounces, seemed much smaller than that. The mussels were tasty, although three had not opened and three more were not adequately open. And there was a surprise: one mussel shell contained no mussel, but instead had two eels, each the size of a woman's finger. Everyone was shocked, including the staff, who whisked it away and did not charge us for that dish. A final disappointment came when we glanced at the bill. Our group consumed five bar drinks but the bill showed a total of eight. We can understand an occasional slip of the finger when totaling a bill, but that large a discrepancy is difficult to excuse. Of course they corrected the bill when we pointed that out. We may try Pendy's again, if the restaurant survives and garners good reviews. But first we will give them plenty of time to work through what we assume are startup problems. read more

From the moment we arrived and were seated by our host Evan, to the prompt arrival of Erin, our server for the evening , we knew we would have a wonderful dinner. We loved the perfectly steamed and flavored pile of mussels. The Citrus Salad was a beautifully arranged and delicious combination of avocados & citrus sections with a fantastic celery seed dressing. The rest of the meal was equally delicious with perfectly timed service. One of the best features of Pendys, was that even though every table was occupied, you could easily carry on a conversation with your fellow guests. They are stuck in an old and tired loop. The best things were the waiter and the chef. Start with the very tired decor. No updates from the previous establishment. Booths are saggy, art is ubiquitous. Floors are worn. The same old floral wallpaper is in the back, practically like what was in the old hunt club restaurant. Very out of date. Ok, the food. First is a presentation of a white bean relish and brown, not quite rye, dense bread, not warm, but a bit chilled. Beans were ok, high in acid/vinegar and black pepper. The other herbs were overpowered. The bread, chewy and interesting but would've been better warmed, nothing worth writing home about. Next, our party chose salads instead of soups. Fresh with Romain and accouterments including tiny bacon bits and a vinegar based dressing, cold and tasty. Tomatoes were ok but not heirloom. Interestingly, another bread basket came out, this had warmed slices of a slightly sour batard and matzo cracker pieces with softened butter. The bread was very good, crusty, chewy, flavorful. Cracker was neither here nor there. Entree choices were whitefish and the mushroom pasta. The whitefish had a caper beurre blanc and appeared broiled, plate included green beans and two redskin potatoes cut into cute mushrooms. Beans bright and not over-cooked. Potatoes had an off taste, I couldn't discern if there was a metallic or a burned flavor (chef later said steamed, but almost as if the pan ran dry and burned under the steamer and infused with burn flavor.) Now the fish. First our mistake for ordering the old folk dish, but it was sooo boring, flavorless and overcooked. This was so disappointing. Sauce very minimal and few capers. I squeezed the entire portion of lemon on it and still lacked in flavor. Definitely skip this dish unless you are 85+. (2 of us had this and agreed on the review.) The other dish was the wild mushroom pasta with chicken. Again a B+ for the idea and a D- for outcome. Very creamy, light on the richness mushrooms should contribute, a bit "flat" in flavor. No spark or surprise to perk up the dish. And the chicken, chewy and although the chef said it was cooked to order it tasted much more like it was pre-cooked in the afternoon and added when the sauce was prepared. Too uniform in shape and not hot through. This was a no in our book. Again quite bland and too dull. Dessert was the lemon chiffon cake. Served more like a mini custard shape than a cake, blueberries were heavy on the cinnamon, they accompanied the cake and were served along side with a dot of whipped cream. Cake was tender and lemony, berries way too much cinnamon for me. Chef said there was lavender in them. Personally I'd have preferred lavender and lemon alone without the fall flavor of the cinnamon. It was like ruining a summer dish with the interruption. Best things, waiter and staff kind, fun and very attentive. Chef stopped by and listened, conversed and explained important info. I think his hands are tied to an outdated operation, when he clearly knows what could make a great restaurant. Our fault for ordering dish choices and would try some better options next time according to chef's comments and recommendations. I'd give it one more try, only because the staff is so great. Last point, the prices are high, especially for a disappointing outcome and should be top notch. They are not out of line with fine dining in the area, but should server much more exceptional dishes. Overall it's a bit old-school and boring. Oh and cleared clean out by 9:45. This IS you grandpa's old and tired club. read more

Second visit was a big improvement over first visit, which was right after they had opened. First thing I noticed was they had improved on the atmosphere and had more of a fine dining, steakhouse feel. Service was on point and food was delicious. I had frog leg special and wife had veal scallop. On top of all of that, I stupidly left my wallet at the table and didn't realize it till the next morning. I got a hold of someone there before they had opened, and picked it up that afternoon with all the cash and credit cards intact. So not only can you count on a good night out there, you can be assured that they have honest people working there. If you haven't been back since they first opened, I recommend giving them another shot. read more
