We absolutely loved our wedding cake from Penelope's Perfections! We opted for two layers of white cake with buttercream and fruit and the bottom layer of salted caramel chocolate ganache. It was DELICIOUS! So light and wonderful. We had them dress the cake on site with fresh florals and were stunned with the simple and elegant design. They were like secret agents, they came, set up the cake, decorated and were out without anyone even seeing them come by. Just surprise! Your cake is here and it's beautiful! Such professional and wonderful service. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful and delicious cake!!
I can not say enough positive things about Penelope's Perfections cakes. My husband and I tried a handful of bakeries in the Costa Mesa and Newport area for our wedding. Penelope's cakes were hands down the best tasting. We had a summer wedding and chose their white cake with passion fruit filling and dark chocolate cake with espresso filling. One was light, sweet and tart the other rich and chocolatey. All of our guests talked about how that was the best wedding cake they tried. My mother-in-law recently had a very last minute court wedding. She went back and forth on the idea of having a cake or not. So 1 day prior to her deciding when she was getting married I reached out to Penelope's perfections. I knew my request could possibly be declined seeing that it was 24 hrs notice. They said no problem we got you. They were so sweet about it. So one picture is our wedding cake and the other is my mother in laws. She got a white cake with the white, milk and dark chocolate.
Ordering our wedding cake from Penelope's Perfections was an amazing decision! If you're considering a bakery in the area schedule a tasting so you can taste their all butter cakes. Their cakes are really good and light. The team is professional, patient, and you can even taste all their flavors if you want to for a small fee per tasting. They have so many options- we totally did just that and it was awesome. Communication is amazing and making payments for the cake tastings and wedding cake was really easy via email. The shop is super cute, delivery was smooth sailing, and it's in a pretty cool area if you wanna grab a beer or a coffee nearby to discuss what you just tasted. I'll be ordering my anniversary cakes from here year after year.
Absolutely incredible cake and knowledge in the craft of baking. My wife found Penelope's perfections online, after we had done a tasting with our wedding venue's preferred vendors/ baker and found that baker's samples way too sweet and egregious frosting to cake proportions. Upon arrival, Penelope's is not what we expected from a typical baker, where you simply walk in, select pastries behind a glass case, and walk out with some goods, but rather are appointment based, to service events such as our wedding. So I'd you're looking around Yelp for a baker, know that it's not a walk-in business as many bakeries are. That said, Penelope's not only taught us a thing or 2 about cakes, but elevated our standard and taste buds that much more! What makes Penelope's stand out far above the countless others our there is that they make their cakes without oil, but instead use a very specific type of butter. Although in doing so, the cakes do not have that glossy look we are accustomed to, and thus, more dry, they are by no means dry at all. The cakes, as result, are more dense, have more texture, and overall, far more flavorful. I can honestly say that despite the years I've spent searching for something close to the best cake I ever had from 20 years ago elsewhere, I have never had anything like what they make at Penelope's, and I would even think twice now, about what cake is my favorite between that one from 20 years ago and the 3-tier tiramisu cake we had for our wedding. We had hired Penelope's for our wedding cake, as well as our dessert bar, and what they provided for us was nothing short of extraordinary. Since we hired them for our wedding, it was expected the price to be considerably steeper than what you would pay for a party, but I would highly recommend what Penelope's offers at least once in your life and bless your palate with something special. We, on the other hand, will definitely order more from them for future occasions, with at least their mini desserts.
Exquisite!!! According to my daughter in law it was the best cake she's ever had! I too thought it was an amazing. After some research and calling around I decided to go with Penelope's Perfections for my son's wedding cake They were able to create the style my daughter in law liked and were able to deliver it to the venue early in the morning. I set up everything thru email with the bakery, I was provided a detailed contract, and responses were always swift. It was a seamless transaction, and I never worried about whether it be delivered on time or damaged.
I was SO excited to get this DoorDash order because I have been searching high and low for a bakery that uses butter, not oil, for their cakes and Swiss meringue, my absolute favorite frosting! We got married at The Montage and their pastry chef KILLED it with our wedding cake (butter cake with Swiss buttercream) and I've been looking for something similar here in CA ever since. Upon opening the bag I was shocked to see just how small the slice was. Photo attached for reference. It was like half the slice was missing, not a particularly long or thick cut. Definitely not what I'm used to but hey, I'll pay for perfection. I dug in and then came my second shock, salt! Full disclosure, I'm salt sensitive, but still. This was chocolate fudge, not salted caramel. The third shock was the frosting. After trying the frosting, I can understand why another reviewer called it "slime." To be clear, it was not greasy, just a very thin, loose mouthfeel. Swiss buttercream should be thick and creamy & this was neither. I still have two cupcakes and another slice of cake but I'm not inclined to even try them at this point. Cupcakes are also smaller than your average, say Sprinkles cupcake. Packaging for the cupcakes was super cute. At this point, I think I'm going to try to bribe the Montage to make me a cake
I ordered a 9" red velvet cake for my spooky themed birthday and the cake was absolutely delicious. We got so many compliments & Penelope's was incredibly responsive. We'd definitely order again! Heads up, they aren't joking when they say to leave the cake out HOURS. We picked it up at around 11:30am and left it out till cake cutting at 10pm. It was absolutely perfect. Their directions were very clear and they realllyy emphasize how important it is to let it sit. I'm leaving 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel like the design, as simple as it was, could've been a little more- spookier? I would've preferred the red drips to have a little more oomph. However their work is primarily weddings so understandable that spooky isn't exactly their style.
The team at Penelope's Perfections made the most amazing wedding cake for our fall 2024 wedding. We were drawn to Penelope's because of their use of Swiss meringue buttercream, which perfectly accented their delicious flavors and fillings without being overly sweet. We really enjoyed our informative tasting with them and loved the individual cakes we got to bring home with us. The day of our wedding the team at Penelope's Perfections was timely and delivered the cake exactly how we had discussed. Months later I am still dreaming about our delicious cake and can't wait to visit them again for events in the future!
Cake is delicious, a little high on the price but you can tell why. You can tell it's quality ingredients. When I read the reviews I was a bit skeptical, but soon realized that it's basically people not following directions. The staff is friendly and welcoming and they let you know SEVERAL TIMES that the cake needs to sit out for AT LEAST 4 HOURS in order to get that creamy, moist buttercream frosting and cake. I also put my leftovers in the fridge and it did exactly what the instructions said, it's stiff and the cake is crumbly. Even in that state I enjoyed the cake, but it was definitely worth waiting for it to get to room temperature and taste the difference. I also purchased a strawberry cupcake, cause I was curious, and it was also very good. Real strawberries you can see, and you can also notice the vanilla bean specks in the vanilla cake. Will totally order from here again.
I've never been a huge fan of cake because most have that overly processed, sickly sweet frosting. This cake is absolutely nothing like that. They use quality ingredients and it shines through in the flavor (if you have to let a cake sit out 4+ hours before serving for the butter to soften, you know it's going to be an incredible cake)! We've now had them for our wedding cake, our little anniversary cake a year later (this comes with your wedding cake and is so much better than that tradition where you freeze the top of the cake an entire year and then pretend it still tastes good...ew), and two cakes for a birthday party. All of them have been delicious and people always ask us where these amazing cakes are from. The lemon raspberry is by far my favorite, but the lemon and red velvet are also wonderful (I don't think you can go wrong with any flavor they have). I can't wait until we have another excuse to have Penelope's decadent cakes and if you have any reason to celebrate this place is 100% worth ordering from.
Best cake tasting experience! We booked a $33 tasting experience a few months ago in preparation for our wedding. Website was very straightforward to book. You have 3 flavors and they give an extensive list of their flavors. We do love that the flavors are unique and very different from other bakeries around Orange County. We opted for the Red Velvet Cake Complimented with Cream Cheese Filling, Espresso Vanilla Cake Complimented with Tiramisu Filling, and Dark Rich Chocolate Fudge Cake Complimented with Chocolate Espresso Filling for our tasting. Upon arriving to our appointment, we found parking in front of the bakery. Its located right behind The Camp. The bakery showroom is very cute and cozy. We love the pink decor and the different cakes they have around the bakery to showcase the various types of wedding cake designs. We were greeted by Rodrick, who had graciously prepared our tastings in the form of mini cakes which we can take home to share the experience with our family. Rodrick was very informative on how the cakes are made and helped us understand how buttercream cakes are different than other types of cakes. The texture is light and not overly heavy like other cakes. The frosting is just the right amount of sweetness and not overly done. We also love how pet friendly the bakery is. We brought our little guy in a stroller and was greeted with so much love. We had the best cake tasting experience here and recommend it to any couples in the area who are looking for a wedding cake vendor. read more

We are two people who absolutely love cake, and we are so happy that we chose Penelope's perfections for our wedding cake. What sets Penelope's Perfections apart is their Swiss meringue buttercream as well as using butter instead oil in their cakes, which brings all the flavor. We picked the white cake with passion fruit curd and Bavarian cream, and the strawberry cake with fresh strawberries and cream. Delivery to our reception site was seamless, and our cake was gorgeous and delicious! We are looking forward to devouring leftover cake on our anniversary. read more

**********PLEASE READ************ I will not be ordering from this place ever again. I ordered a a two tiered cake for my daughters birthday and as I was cutting the cake, there was a long piece of hair in the cake. It was very embarrassing! Family members and friends did not want to eat the cake. I felt disgusted myself also. I immediately emailed this business including the picture of the cake with the hair and they denied it! Worst service ever!! I also told them that the cake was extremely sweet like if they purposed had done this. I have included a picture of the hair and also the reply I got from the business owner. Worst customer service! Not worth $242. I will not be coming back and I do not recommend this place. Got a red velvet cake for my sons birthday. It's his favorite. We're very picky about red velvet cakes. I came on Yelp and did my research and was I in luck when I found this place. The staff is friendly and helpful. The cake was so delicious, moist and fresh and natural ingredients. They even give you a note for your cake as a reminder since buttercream is fresh and they use all natural butter. Also they have such a variety of cake flavors to choose from. If you have a last minute occasion that pops up, I recommend this place. Thank you for making such a delicious cake. We devoured it. read more

We hired Penelope's Perfections to make the cake for our wedding on July 20th and it was one of the best decisions we made. From Day 1, we had a great experience working with the team. Rodrick provided us with an amazing tasting experience, educating us on the different types of cakes and walking us through their baking process. One of the hardest decisions we had to make was deciding on cake flavor, as every flavor we tried was incredible. The team was also very accommodating when we made a number of changes to our order prior to the wedding day. The cake itself turned out amazing - our guests couldn't stop raving about how it was one of the only times they actually enjoyed cake at a wedding. We presented inspiration photos for a mermaid themed cake for our daughter's birthday party and the result was a beautiful and delicious custom cake. The work was exquisite! I ordered a 3 tier cake from Penelope's for a company anniversary party, and it was the best choice I made! This is a late review as the event happened in October, but had to remind myself to leave this here because my company and my own experience with Penelope was that much great. From taste to delivery, everything was served on point. They were also one of the only bakeries offering flowers and toppers! Usually, cake bakeries are used to doing wedding cakes so don't provide complimentary flowers or toppers. However, Penelope's not only offered these options but also had reasonable prices. Few other things my company & I loved from Penelope's: - I showed them the design inspiration and visuals I had in mind. They crafted the final design just as I expected it to be! - Taste was good as the design. Fillings and flavors satisfied everyone at the event :) - I visited their bakery in person to discuss few urgent requests, and Penelope kindly greeted and responded to all my inquiries despite the busy day she had! - Delivery came with the cake safely guarded. I would give 10 stars if possible! Thank you to the Penelope's Perfections team for the most beautiful cake for my daughter's first birthday! And the cake was super tasty and moist too! Penny was so easy to work with and she offered great suggestions when I couldn't figure out what I wanted. I showed her the invitation and told her I wanted a cake design to match the theme. She suggested using fondant so they can have their artist paint the design onto the cake. The result was a beautiful cake that was a showstopper at our party. Everyone complimented on how beautiful and tasty it was. We had a lemon cake with fresh raspberry filling and vanilla Bavarian cream. So yummy!!! And the cake stayed moist even days after the party since we had a lot leftover! They also made a small smash cake for the birthday girl. I even placed an order for their mini desserts last minute, like the night before. And they were able to accommodate a pickup time at 10am. They have small buttercream cakes and cake by the slice you can walk in to buy! Parking: Street parking and 2 spaces in the lot next to the store. read more

I'm so happy to have found Penelope's Perfections they did such an amazing job on my wedding cake and delivered exactly what I wanted not to mention the cake doesn't need refrigerating while waiting for cake cutting. The staff here are super friendly and helpful as well as responsive to all my questions. The cake was absolutely delicious and my guests loved every bite!! We have used Penelope's Perfections for many years in a row for our daughter's birthday cakes. We are always astounded at how perfectly they nail our vision. Even more importantly, the cakes are always delicious! It's hard to find cakes that are both beautiful and taste good, but Penelope's has it down! I contacted them this year for a circus themed cake for my daughter's 6th birthday. I sent some inspiration photos and a [very poorly done] drawing I did for what I'd like, and the cake came out perfectly! All our guests were commenting how beautiful it was. We can't wait to see what they create for us next year. read more
I called Penelope's looking for cupcakes for a friend having reconstructive surgery after conquering breast cancer. I spoke with Penelope and she was good at suggesting what to do for "booby" cupcakes. I picked them up yesterday and were perfect! The reviews couldn't be more accurate-the cakes here are truly top notch! I work in the catering and wedding industry, and I get to see and taste a lot of cakes. I first tasted a cake from Penelope's at a client's event. I was blown away by all aspects of the quality. That said-I decided to order from Penelope's for MY wedding. The ordering process was easy, they understood what I wanted to the letter, and the cake...well...that chocolate espresso is to die for, as is the lemon raspberry. I look forward to ordering their array of different flavors as time goes on. Thank you Penelope's for adding such a delightful treat to our special day! read more

Thank you for posting the full conversation and the "transparency". I wanted to save you further embarrassment otherwise I would've gladly posted it as I know anyone who isn't related to you in some way would agree with my statement after reading the full conversation. Do yourself a favor and go back to school and take some business management and communication courses. You have no clue how to successfully run a business or to communicate like a decent human being. Sadly for you, the review before mine from Jasmine is just another perfect example. It takes a real disturbed individual to try to say that the hair in the cake doesn't match the "hair color, length and thickness" of your employees as if you can determine that from a photo and further make a fool out of yourself by stating that the hair which is clearly inside the cake "possibly" came from the customers home implying that your customer who is an elite yelp member would ruin her daughters birthday cake by putting hair in it just to get a refund. Any decent human being would take responsibility and simply refund a customer for their reputation. Rather than begging your friends and family to write you good reviews to cover up the bad ones, maybe you should spend some time and get education on how to successfully run a food service business. You're in no way fit to work at a bakery let alone own one. Baking cakes for people should be a privilege as it always involves being a part of celebrations and special moments in peoples lives and your presence takes that away from customers. read more

This place has the best cakes! My tasting was amazing, my wedding was as well, but, as every bride knows, you don't even get to eat your cake on the busiest day of your life! So, I ordered a 9" for this upcoming Christmas! The staff and cakes are to die for! Best buttercream frosting ever!! read more

Best cake ever!!! Penelope's cakes are delicious and their designs are beautiful. The almond cake with raspberry filling is soooo good but I'm looking forward to sampling their other flavors as well. Highly recommend!!! read more

I hate to be that person but her it goes.... My cake look beautiful and was awesome!! It was a Geode cake! They replicated a picture I showed them ! Everyone love the look !! Costumer Service was good they are nice ppl and communication through email was ok. Sadly the taste wasn't there. One tier was lacking flavor. Other tier was TO sweet. It was to dense, and hard to cut. must be because they freeze the cake and you need to leave it out for 4 hours to thaw. I did go and buy some cupcakes before where some had no taste and tasted stale and dense and a few were really great! I ask if they are made fresh and they said yes. They are very small and she did give me 2 free ones. After looking at the Yelp reviews and the cupcakes we decided on some flavors. Wish they had cake taste test for ppl not buying a wedding cake but a n expensive cake. From the cupcakes and cake result I don't think I would buy another cake here. I'm so happy how my wedding came came out! It looked exactly like the inspiration photo I sent them and tasted delicious. My family and guests loved the cake! I went to two other bakeries and was getting worried since the other bakeries' cakes were extremely sweet or underwhelming. The staff were knowledgeable, welcoming, and provided great customer service. I would buy another cake from them again! Thank you. read more

My overall experience with Penelope's Perfection was.... perfection! The cake tasting was so fun and delicious. The communication back and forth was easy. The cake was delivered without a hitch and had the right amount of recommended time to sit etc. The cake was beautiful and the floral arrangements on the cake were exactly what the bride had envisioned. Lastly, the cake was delicious and we had NO wedding cake left. That is a true testament to how yummy the cake and frosting is. I don't have the wedding photos back yet and this iPhone photo does not do the cake right, but I didn't want to forget to write this review. We would definitely recommend Penelope's Perfections to anyone needing a special cake and would use them again. I would recommend a cake testing as this cake is unique. We ended up doing several cake tastings and always came back to Penelope's. Theirs is far superior in my opinion. Thank you for a great cake and experience! read more

I'm not sure why there aren't more reviews for this bakery?! They are my all-time favorite! Their cakes taste devine with real, rich French buttercream that pair perfectly with whichever cake flavor you choose. Their designs are beautiful and artistic! My wedding cake was made exactly the way I wanted it and it tasted wonderful on my wedding day! They made the day ever more special! I've been coming back to them for just random cakes because they are that tasty! You can't find buttercream cakes like these anywhere! They're truly a gem! read more

Yes we can. But our exterior frosting is buttercream. Whip cream frosting does not hold up. Give us a call to discuss your needs.
