Some staff is great, rehab unit not so much. Hospital was clean and the food was quite over salted most times. Their soups were very good.

I have received excellent care at Penn Highlands Mon Valley. Currently receiving cancer treatment, and my team is the best. My journey began with my annual mammogram performed at Jefferson Medical Center, where the errors they made in communication ( or lack of) were horrendous. read more

Excellent medical staff - top notch. We have been to Washington Healthcare, Canonsburg Hospital and St. Clair Hospital. None of them compare to the service and staff at Mon Valley. We were questioning whether to try a different hospital for an ER visit and made the right choice going to Mon Valley. It isn't as nice and pretty as St. Clair, but I think the doctors spend more time with you, explain things better and frankly care more to do the right thing. I won't go to the others again with my family. read more

Excellent care, RN's & CNA's were top notch with their care & concern of my well being as was the Dietary Staff with their patience of explaining the choice of meals I should have. After being discharged then having to return for another scan, the scan was done within 1/2 hr from my going back to the hospital & report was immediate. All were top-notch in my situation. read more

Arrived at registration department half early was told script not provided by physician. if that's the case how did imaging call to confirm appointment and how to prepare for test? Ever since Penn Highlands took over, the service here has really gone down hill. They just don't care about anything other than price gouging everyone. My mom went here to the ER about 3 weeks ago because she wasn't feeling good, wasn't eating much and so on. They kept her their for near 6 hours only to tell her that they can't find anything and that it may be a virus. But they couldn't tell her what virus it was. They didn't even give her any medication. My Mom is 78 years old. I think this place doesn't care about seniors and wants them to croak. They don't even come around to ask you if you need anything. The one time they did, my mom asked for something to drink. She never got it. She went to Jefferson Hospital 2 weeks later and they found that she had pneumonia and then also found that she was having heart problems. Why didn't this shit hole find these problems. I'll tell you why. It's because they don't care if seniors die. Stay away from this place run by the communist regime. The bottom line is my mom came out worse than she went in. read more

Your covid policy in 2023 is ridiculous. I work in healthcare and you have the most insane policy. My father was recently in your ER. My mom was with him. They are both elderly and get confused easily. My brother or I tried to be in the room with them, especially when doctors were there to give correct information and to receive correct infirmation- but due to your policy of only 1 person that was not allowed. (My mother was not about to leave her husband of over 50 years when she didn't know what was going on). Even today, he is getting out patient surgery. And yet again, only 1 person is allowed in the waiting room, which leaves the other person in the hospital- not even in the same building. So my elderly parents are left with the doctors, to get everything confused, while I, who am in healthcare, have to sit in another area due to your archaic policies. The funny thing is- we all have been tested for covid and vacinated, but I guess that doesn't matter. Keep up with the times- Penn Highlands. What do you do with family members who have dementia or ambulatory issues? Just cause they look fine, many times they are not! read more

This hospital NEEDS shut down. My left leg was numb I COULD NOT move my head or neck blurry vision GUESS WHAT 3 1/2 HOURS and NOT ONE PERSON CAME INTO MY ROOM. I also went and found a nurse to say I'm getting worse half hour later and NO ONE CAME IN. I went to another hospital and I will be calling a lawyer ZERO STARS BUT HAD TO ADD ONE TO POST. I was here 11 days ago, being 7 weeks pregnant and started bleeding, I knew something was wrong. I go to mon valley hospital, tell them what I think is going on, and I wait. Wait some more and wait some more... 4 and 1/2 hours later, still haven't been seen by ANYONE. So I just left. Went to Washington hospital the next day, and they were expectational. super fast. And actually cared for me. And yes, I was having a miscarriage, and I lost my baby. I know there isn't much to do to save it at that point, but mom valley did nothing. They just let it happen. They don't care. It's not like the waiting room was packed. This hospital seriously needs shut down. The worst by far. I have a friend who's dad is in his 90s and was having heart problems, and he sat in the waiting room and to be seen in the back room for 8 hours. Just waiting. This man could of died. this hospital just makes me sick anytime I read another bad review. read more

Mon Valley Hospital Horrible medical service, my mother who is 84 years old, had a knee injury, was taken to the hospital at 5:30 pm and she is not caucasian, she was left in the emergency room for over 2 hours, finally when one of the nurses did begin 5 on Monday, she was in the bed wet three times, and had not eaten since 3:30 pm, and the Security team was verbsllt assaultive to me each time I had to go outside to make phone calls. It us now 1:00 am and she is still in the emergency room unattended and left to lie in that bed until 1 1:30 am Monday. Point of view of 37 y/o female patient (also a nurse) in early Dec 2014...starting from the ER to room 614 to OR, focused on renal. Note: as a nurse...It's very difficult to be on the other side of the health model. I was sort-of considering heading to Jefferson ER, but chose MVH...it's 5 miles away. Start with the ER: Sunday at 230am...Fortunately got right in. The Er nurse (I wish I could remember her name) very sweet, compassionate and professional. Dr. Aguilerra...payed attention to my test results (unlike the md in 2012) and was knowledgeable, professional and concerned enough to have my pain and nausea managed safely and had me admitted. I think I was in 6w, room 614, and by Gawd I wish I could remember everyone's names. There were two wonderful Joyce's...one an aide one a RN. Two of my favorites RNs, And an aide with long black hair...I can't remember their names. I can go on and on about them. Fantastic A+ medical professionals. Kira, the Rn....wwow, very caring, prompt, thinks outside the box and went the extra mile to promote comfort. THE OR: Dr. Myron Senchyshak, I heard him planning out loud...THAT anesthesiologist made several critical decisions to spare my defenses (which I was going to need) and my blood pressure (which was critically low) and yet put me under safely and without the pain and awareness of what was being done to me. A+++++ to Dr. Myron and his team in the OR. Sue Gavigan RN, and the nurse on with her...comforting and professional, top shelf. A+++++! UROLOGY: I've shared patients with Dr. Rach before, and thank goodness I didn't have him! I was blessed to have Dr. lutins. We only spoke briefly about his plan, but he was involved, professional, did not see me as the typical case and catered his plan to my needs. He emphasized care on me and dido at of the talking with my boyfriend while I was in recovery. Dr. Hepps followed with me the next two days to see how I was doing, to see if I had any questions, and explain the course of treatment. A+++ HOSPITALISTS for Dr. Shroff: the 3 I had were incredibly nice and prioritized my care appropriately with sustaining life being número uno. I will get their names when I have time to dig to find them. 2 men, one female. Top shelf. A++ FOOD: I will not even take a star away due to the smell and quality of their food. :( They can only prepare what they are supplied according to budget, which is not their choice. I'm convinced the food would be top notch if they were granted the ability. The visiting lady with the blond hair was very attentive and always came toy room to plan the best meals for me. A+ dietary service for your efforts. MVH...just a word of advice, the next reviewer may give demerits on the food...but it has NOTHING to do with the quality of your staff. They were outstanding. Just constructive criticism...improve the food. Dietary services A+++. Again, I am not taking off a star because the personnel compensated for the unpleasant food and my boyfriend brought me food in need. Housekeeping: A+++ very nice, talkative and friendly. Overall, I am fortunate to have such a great team with this being totally unplanned. My pain had not been under control entirely, but that's only because their priority is to keep me alive, and while I have my kids and the fur baby to love and care for...that is MY priority as well. Sometimes you have to put on your big boy pants and endure alittle. I am SOOOOOOO GLAD I CHOSE MVH AND RECIEVED THE STAFF AND CARE THAT I HAD. Thank you MVH! read more

I did have much respect for this hospital at 1 time, But when I had hurt my hand went in to the ER got Xrays done and was told my hand was broke with bones into bones and to see a specialist, I asked what bones the lady stated someplace on the top of your hand, She put a splint on my hand told me not to move it, I thought to myself hmmm funny cause I can move it turn it almost squeeze with it, and theres not much pain for such a dramatic break, So no I dont think its broke. Before I knew it they gave me a script of oxycodone WTF really ummm no thanks I'm not a druggie I'm not a pill abuser I'm well educated on what them narcotics can do to people I work in the health care system, I'm ashamed of how this was handled and pray to God they dont do the same to unexpected teen or a child for that matter. I go and see the specialist and I was right no break not even 1 nothing but bruising Mononaghla Hospital told me my hand was broke I in turn told my boss my hand was broke thinking maybe the hospital was right quit 2 out of the 3 jobs I had because I was in fear of dropping somebody that I was taking care of, that I needed to take care of my family with. The hospital gave me medication that I didn't ask for and will not take, Lied to me lied to my husband then in turn I took there word told my kids I did break my hand, made me look and feel like a fool with not a bat in there eyes! This is the worst hospital in the area but happens to be the closest. Med Express sent my daughter here for some tests. We have been here since 8 pm and it's almost 1 am. The desk staff got snarky with my wife when asked the wait time for the ER..."Eight hours" was their answer. This hospital has always been trash. We will never come here for the ER again. I have sat here and watched 8 or 9 patients get up and leave without being seen. Some seemed very ill and some in a lot of pain. We sat for 3 hours in the waiting room while my daughter was having a hard time breathing and having chest pains. If we need an ER again it sure won't be this one. Washington, Jefferson, Mercy or Ruby. Screw this place. read more

The out-patient registration is not private at all. The waiting room is crowded with a "petri-dish" atmosphere. The out-patient procedure area is crowded and dreary. It certainly does not exude a clean, sterile environment. I noticed ceiling vents were dirty. Baseboards dirty. Two months after a colonoscopy and endoscopy, I am still fighting the severe intestinal infection evidently having its origins there. I am now being treated successfully at UPMC. Big mistake for me to take a chance on this facility. read more

This hospital is a joke, I love my doctor but I don't think he understands from a patient point of view what a lousy hospital this is. First the lady calling me to tell me what time to report for surgery got Irrated with me when I explained I was familiar with the hospital and proceed to hang up on me, then the nurse on the floor didn't want to give me my pain meds after back surgery, she was rude and would not call the doctor to get my pain under control. After I requested the rapid response team to asses me they finally got another nurse. 90%of my life sustaining COPD meds they didn't have. I am glad I brought my own. Meds were not given on schedule, so they pain would become unbearable by the time they were received, and last but not least the food is awful. I can't wait till discharge read more

My family has been going to this hospital for many decades..until last night for how we were treated by staff. My fiance had surgery to remove her appendix and was supposed to be discharged but ended up being admitted after the surgery. We both talked to the daylight nursing staff and there was no issue with me spending the night with my fiance, they even offered me a cot bed for in the room. At 8:30 pm I had to run out to the car and I had to reenter through the emergency department since they closed the lobby early per what the signs said 9pm. All of the sudden as I got back to my fiance's room 5 minutes later I had security at our door demanding that I leave. We tried to explain to our nurse that I was told I could stay by 2 other nursing staff members. No one from management ever came to talk to us..not even a charge nurse or the AOD. They didn't care about family centered care. I was there helping my fiance because it was taking staff 30 minutes or more to answer the call bell because she had to pee right away. We didn't even know who our new nurse was at 7pm because she never came around until 9pm and never identified herself. MY FIANCE AND I ENDED UP WALKING OUT OF MONONGAHELA VALLEY HOSPITAL ! After her having surgery. They didn't even offer a wheelchair! They definitely don't care about patients or family. We will NEVER go back to MONONGAHELA VALLEY HOSPITAL if our lives depended on it. This place has changed for the worst..and all the bad reviews prove it. read more

Came in 6/2/18 through ER, just having driven from Chicago; received excellent care in ER and, especially, care from staff on 7th floor from RNs to housekeeping. Too many good people to name. Drs. Lementowski and Bobek were terrific, as were all physicians I dealt with. Top notch regional facility, IMHO. read more
