Penneys is the sister company of Primark. Formed it Dublin in the late 60s, outside of Ireland it's know as Primark. They carry the same styles and fashions at affordable prices="fast fashion". I've bought several pieces that I still wear and love. Whenever I'm in Dublin I like to do a bit of stocking up and the O'Connell Street location is one of my faves. This Penneys has gotten the revamp it deserves, FINALLY!!!! I am so happy to be able to hop off the bus on O'Connell Street, pop into Penneys and pick up whatever essentials or random things I fancy. They have completely rearranged the store and it's honestly a million times better now and definitely in a much more presentable state for a shop on O'Connell Street. Homewares are now located upstairs instead of in the basement, and there is a couch area across from the changing rooms at the back of the store for people to take a little rest which is a really nice and sophisticated addition, I don't think I've ever seen a seating area in any Penneys store besides at the shoes. Great area, same up to date stock as Mary Street store and saves you having to tip off down there if you're in a rush. read more

In your face Arnotts! Went to Penneys today to see if I could pick up a bargain on wraps for the bridesmaids dresses. Not only did they have them, but they were easy to find. And just 3 euro each. I got one for each of us in 2 different colours, just in case I remember the colour wrong... it still only cost 24 euro which is less than the price of one that we were offered in the place we bought the dresses. I don't know why I didn't just go to Penneys first! read more

From Bangladesh to Vietnam, children the world over are toiling ceaselessly in order to ensure that Penneys' customers are turned out in the latest in sweatshop chic. I'm not sure how it is ethical or even possible to buy the cotton, make the t-shirt, ship it half the way around the world, pay for overheads like rent and staff but sell the t-shirt for just €3 and still make a profit, but then hey, I'm not an economist, but if I am going on holidays I'll definitely swing by and stock up. For years exclusively the preserve of old ladies, Primark's clothing has lately developed a bit of following amongst fashionistas, because it is (a)cheap and (b)looks like it could almost possibly be from Topshop or H&M. In so far as I'm aware of, the Penneys on O'Connell St is the only one in the city centre, and as such is usually jammers. Whenever I do go to Penneys, I try to get out of there in 20 minutes or under, as any longer than that I would succumb to the invariable heat that such a large scrum of people generates. I bought a coat in the morning. There was only small size. When I bought it, it did not look clean. However,I thought It would be okay after washing. After arriving home, I realised, it was make up cream. However, I did not have time so in the evening, I tried to return it. They did not accept because they said that I could put some face cream on the coat. The most important thing that I was wondering how they put that coat in the sheves without seeing the mark and how the sales assistant sold me that coat without seeing the mark. One of my favorite retailers! Certainly not for footwear, jeans or coats but I always buy their jumpers, shirts, t-shirts, hoodies and some beauty products. Quality in Penneys certainly improved with years, what I like about this store is that their clothes' turnover is so fast, so many items you wouldn't find anywhere else, their stock buyer knows exactly what consumer wants. My God this place is awful! What ever overcame me to come in on a Saturday, I will never know! Jam packed, stuff everywhere, p*ssed off and frazzled staff, and queues for EVERYTHING. This review though is in particular reference to the rigmarole (that is surely the only word for it) that I went through to try on some clothes. As usual with Penneys, I had 10 items to try on when I got to the changing room. You can bring a maximum of six items into the cubicles with you, so I left the four outside, with the intents of swapping four other items over for them - as is the system in any fitting room across the world. Can you see where this is going....? I tried on my six items, then walked out to the assistant to swap the four items I didn't want for the four items I hadn't yet tried on. She told me to do this, that I would have to go back into the fitting room, put my own clothes on, gather all my stuff, go back to the end of the queue, take my extra four items with me, queue up again, just to try on the four items I already had in my hands. I queried why this was. She told me it was 'policy' when it was busy. Surely though, me having to go into the cubicle, get re-dressed, get all my stuff, queue up again, and go through the whole process again, is actually slowing everything down? If I could just go and try on the four items ALREADY in my hands, in the fitting room I was ALREADY in, I could be finished in five minutes?! She blankly looked at me in a 'Computer Says No' type fashion and said 'It's Policy'. This whole process was in a word, ludicrous. I didn't get to try on the extra four items, despite the fact I had them in my hand and had all my stuff in the fitting room. So I didn't get to buy anything at all, as the queue was a good 10 people long. I felt like I was treated like a criminal in all honesty, like as if it was privilege to be shopping or buying there. Pull your socks up Penneys (pun intended!) - shocking way to treat your customers. read more

Love this store. It was clean and orderly, well-spaced aisles with a comfortable atmosphere (I have been to a few Primarks in the U.K. ... not always spacious, one was incredibly hot). The associate at checkout was friendly enough. They seemed to have all sizes in everything and the displays were tidy. Both times I've moved to Ireland this was my first stop after getting the key to my apartment. They have cheap bedding and housing items downstairs (perfect for temporary residents or broke students). Also, there are clothes and shoes here. I was happy with the jacket I bought here and for the price it lasted me a long while. It's not the biggest Penneys I've ever been in but it's sizable enough. For Americans, this is not JC Penney's...it's way, way cheaper. read more

I need to say that I occasionally pop into Penneys for a few bits and pieces, like Colgate toothbrush (€1), facial wipers, vest, or socks. I wouldn't be mad buying any other stuff. You can buy whatever you want, but I don't think they will last long, or you will probably see so many other people wearing the same as you. The other day I was admiring the last pair of 2 euro size six shiny sequinned shoes in Penneys when it was rudely yanked out of my hands by a middle-aged women who thought she had more right to the cinderella slippers than me. Ummm, ok then. If you want them that badly, they're yours!! Truth is, I was only going to wear them for an evening, so it would have been money down the drain for me anyway (a whole 2 euros!!) Penneys is fab if you're going to a dress up party - make it a bit of a competition between you and your friends - who can get the most outrageous/bad-taste/horrible/80s outfit for less than a tenner. Put a time limit on it and you've got the Penneys version of the Amazing Race (Penneys staff would just love this I can tell you now!) I often shop here because it's so damn cheap, and there are ALWAYS specials on. I once picked up a really cute skirt, originally priced at 17 euro, for 3 euro. The first time I wore it a very sophisticated woman asked me whether it was a Vivienne Westwood! Wow, go Penneys!! Great shop for all your basics. Don't expect them to last a lifetime, because Penneys is like a rebound boyfriend - great fun at the time, but ultimately it's not going to stick around now, is it??? read more

I think when I left Ireland sales must have gone significantly down at Penney's... I'm sure it severely impacted their revenues. A company of highly questionable ethics, when I can buy cute stilettos for E9 or a cute dress for E13. They knock off a lot of designer brands, the quality is inconsistent, some things I have had a couple years, some fall apart immediately. But they have nice styles in store to it makes it a bit less dear to keep up to date. Queue is typically major, try the tills downstairs or at the back by the lingerie. read more

Penneys is a lifesaver. How many times have I gone to this shop in need of something cheap in a pinch? I don't know because I've lost count. It probably happens once every two weeks! There are two Penneys in the city centre: one on O'Connell and one on Henry Street. The second one is better than the first and should be your number 1 stop if you need black trousers and a black shirt for work (insert shout-out to all bar and wait staff!). It's also a great place to buy the necessities such as socks, underwear and shoes. Often these items go for a fiver. At these low prices, you shouldn't expect high fashion. The styles, cuts and colours are pretty generic, but the classic look can go a long way. You might also have trouble finding your size if you are smaller than a size 12. Small sizes go quickly so, petite ladies, if you see something you like, buy it before the girl next to you does! Do expect a very messy shop filled with pushy women, screaming children and scared men. The place is truly a zoo on the weekends. read more

I could not remember the name of this place! I knew it was a department store and I was pretty sure it wasn't Dunnes. I owe a great debt to this store because it kept me clothed while I lived in Dublin for a semester. I was coming from Boston and since I knew it doesn't snow in Dublin, as a general rule anyway, I assumed I didn't need a warm coat. Wrong. wrong. wrong. The creeping cold of that November rain is really unbearable without a dozen sweaters or so. Since I had next to nothing to shop with, I frequented this place and felt like a regular townie. Ah Penney's! You're a one-stop shop for holiday wear, moping-around-the-house wear, office wear, night-on-the-razzle wear, under-wear - any kind of wear! Where else can you pick up an outfit from top-to-tail for €20? Penney's may seem a world away from the catwalks of Milan and Paris, but this is where they suck their inspiration from before altering designs enough to avoid lawsuits and knocking them off to clothe the masses. Just don't expect to pass your Penney's threads off as one-of-a-kind - a Penney's girl spots a Penney's girl from a mile away. Cheap fashion may come at a price for others however - Panorama featured an expose on Penney's last year which accused them of using child labour in India to produce cheap apparel. And you do have to wonder how any t-shirt can sum up to a mere €2... That's cost you some stars, Penney's. read more

There are 2 main penneys stores in Dublin, one in Mary street and this one in O'Connell Street. One star or two? Oh Penneys I hate everything about you but you are so useful in an emergency! (Two it is). Cheapy cheap clothes and shoes that fall to pieces on the second wear can be picked up here in a (broken) heartbeat. If you get soaked, puked on, need new knickers (hm), or, basically have a clothes problem that needs fixed immediately, this is the place to go. A whole new outfit can be yours for less than €20. If you're not at that moment concerned about the child labour involved, or the fact that the clothes here are a complete waste of money, then fine. If, at that moment, it doesn't matter that they stock virtually nothing smaller than size 14, or larger than 16, that all your new buttons will fall off and the soles fall off your new shoes, again, go for it... Going to Penney's is like going to some class of zoo. The clothes are thrown about all over the floor and trampled on, the changing rooms are a junkie-breeding tip, the staff are rude and useless, and the general clientele is the dregs of Dublin. Sometimes, it's so bad it's funny. Only when needs must! read more

Oh sigh. Penney's....you had me at 5 euros for genuine suede shoes. Every time I come over from Canada to visit the in-laws I drag my (very unhappy) husband to Penney's for some cheap shopping. Like he says....you can go in with 100 euros and come out with a whole new wardrobe. The clothes are cute and fairly on par with what's in fashion. True, you do get what you pay for. The clothes are not only cheap in price, but also cheap in quality. But really, you can't go wrong paying 10 euros for a cute shirt to wear out and 7 euros for a stylish bag to boot. I know Penney's has a reputation (unorganised, cheap quality, etc) but I can definitely appreciate it! We don't have Penney's/Primark in the states, although I think I heard that one is opening up in NY. So for me, it's nice to find such cheap prices for fairly decent clothes, shoes, and household items. Penney's is fine for basics- t-shirts, jeans- and also for one-off items that stand out a bit (I once got a black and grey furry coat for 15 euro). Not sure I would lunge for their makeup, but I've tried their line of fake eyelashes for Halloween before. They sell the same items at each store, but I'd probably prefer the Dundrum branch to this one, as it's currently undergoing construction and it's always packed to the brim. read more

Ok, mixed feelings about this place. First off, I love Penneys. Half my wardrobe is from there so no marks off about that. This location is also perfect, right near everything and easy to get to. The only thing that I dislike about this location is shopping here on the weekends. It gets busy, like BUSY busy. It will be people packed in like a night club, long queues, and looks a bit like it does at Christmas every weekend. If you prepare yourself for that before arrival though and plan extra time for fighting the masses you will be fine. read more

There are clothes and scraps all over the floor, you have to walk single-file through the walkways because it is so full of people, and you will probably wait at least 15 minutes to get into a fitting room. Everyone my age chat about the incredible deals to be had at Penneys. Before venturing there however I was mindful that it's renowned low prices may compromise the quality, which I obviously wasn't happy about but during these testy economic times I could not afford to shop in another place more distinguished. I'm not a snob by any means but I am an advocate of longevity and clothes that stand the test of time, after all if you buy cheap, you buy twice. To my surprise (if I am honest I will admit to pre-judging this store to be insufficient on account of its notability in stocking cheap goods) and exhilaration the stockpile was wide-ranging and of authentic and respectable quality. Like I said I admit to initially being wary of the cheap prices and potential copy-cat (i.e. poor, cheap replications of finer clothes from more renowned stores) approach resulting in clothes of a dodgy quality but Penneys avoids this stereotype admirably. I respect Penneys as a store to buy casual as well as more formal clothes for work or going out etc but owing to just how resourceful it's stockpile is, it is the perfect store to pick up knick-knacks to create a costume for a themed party or Halloween. It came up trumps when I required the appropriate kit for a Rubix Cube Party recently. The idea of the party was that everyone had to adorn clothes that feature each colour seen on a rubix cube. I was very relieved and happy to find all of the colours I required under one roof, each garment a different style to the next. So not only did I manage to get the diverse array of colours together but managed to pick up a miscellaneous range of styles of garments too, those being an orange hoodie, a red polo t-shirt, green leggings, yellow slip-on ballet shoes, blue ribbons and white-rimmed sunglasses - to underline the wide ranging stockpile, especially in this, one of it's biggest branches in Dublin spanning three floors. Of course, Penneys being Penneys, the total for all of this as well as a few pairs of good quality €2 socks was incredible value for money and from this visit I was massively encouraged to revisit very soon after. read more

A word to the wise, Penneys is unbearably packed to the rafters at the weekend. Stop off here on a week day morning for more relaxed bargain hunting. Another incentive to be an early bird is that the best new stock seems to arrive midweek. This penneys store is quite central, and like all the rest the clothes are very cheap and great value for money. There are two floors in this branch. The top floor has clothes in general, and the bottom houses accessories and homeware. I'm not a great fan of this store in particular as it is frequently overcrowded and stifling hot. Get there early to avoid all the queues and browse in comfort. Unusually, this shop also stocks branded makeup and other cosmetics, although the prices can be quite steep, unlike the general penneys trend of keeping the cost as low as possible. read more

Penneys on O'Connel street is definitely one of my top 5 favourite shops in Ireland. Why would you pay ten euro for a pair of black tites when you can get about 4 pairs for half the price in penneys? It is definitely the place to go for underwear, pyjamus, and plain vest tops. Often alot of the major fashion trends actually start in penneys. I think that just about everyone in dublin now owns that black crocadile skin bag with the gold chain thats in right now (only 13 euro) and of course you can get the shoes to match for 9. Penneys in Ireland is the same as Primark in the UK. It offers men, woman and children's clothing at low prices. The clothes are very cheap but the quality is not always great. Kid's clothes are great from here as they're decent looking and very cheap. They don't always wash as well as other brands but then again most kids don't weat their clothes for too long! I recently bought a hat and mitten set for my child for 3 euro which is a bargain. This store on O'Connell Street is one of the biggest Penneys shops in Ireland. read more

This penneys is simply a total array of chaos and colours as clothes, shoes, hats, scarves and much more jostle for space. Then there are the shop visitors of which there are many. I do like the odd shopping trip but i don't like sharing my personal space with so many people. But i realise that the store like it this way as the more people there are buying €2 hair accessories or €3 packets of underwear mean for big profits. God help it though if you want to try something on as the queues are so long and anyway when you get into the changing rooms your purchase may just fall apart! Made as they seem to be by little hands penney's clothes lack any real quality but people seem not to be bothered by that fact. sell, sell, sell is Penneys forte. And how many times have you heard someone say to a compliment about looking good in say, dress/necklace/shoes 'ah penneys!'. Me i prefer not to look like a penneys shopper but i have to admit to having the odd garment in my overstuffed wardrobe. read more

penneys is a great place to shop with reasonable prices. i shop there all the time for tops, pjs etc and always end up with lots of things for less than €20, which is great! my only problems with penneys is the older boys clothes...they could do with updating their boys clothes styles. also they could do with getting in some larger pjs for larger ladies. read more
