PQM has always had this full service: place order on-line, drive up and they will put it in car for you. You can allow for substitutions, or even with that they are kind enough to call to make certain that its okay. If you like to walk the aisles, this is also a full service store that has KNOWLEDGEABLE, FRIENDLY and helpful staff. I am emphasizing this because of the dumb and sour possess that go to work only for their paychecks elsewhere. When you check-out, besides bagging, they offer to walk you to car to load-up. yellow-where do you get THAT ? I have always supported this market. I think that if I was elderly, it would help me to keep my independence. but in these apocalypse times, this grocer has turned good service into necessity. Better than most store is their cultural and local variety which is always fresh and also interesting new items as well as various ethnic flavors. They run good sales, honor their sales, and run a very clean shop. I have be turned onto several local brands, new cheeses, and finally went back to eating lunch meats because of PQM. This is a pretty big grocery store, but it's not part of a chain. It's got a small town store feel to it, perhaps because it's a family owned business. I like shopping here, the produce is always fresh and the store itself is very clean, airy and well lite. They still have young people helping to pack the bags,and help the older folks carry their bags to the car. read more

My mom had a strange and deep disdain for this market. It was so close, yet she was always reluctant to shop there. Maybe it was the plethora of Pennington and Hopewell teenagers that worked there, or the endless gossip that always happened in the aisles, as it was inevitable that you would bump into everybody ranging from teachers, neighbors, and those that you desperately wanted to avoid. Pennington is a small town! Whatever the case may be - Pennington market is a decent market, but it has a poor bakery section (in terms of taste), and a limited organic food selection. It is also relatively pricey - for the value of the goods. I haven't been back for about two years, but can still safely assume that Wegman's, although a littler farther, is definitely a better shopping option than PQM. read more

Pennington Quality Market is a family-owned business that was the only place to shop for many years. People would travel from Lawrenceville, Princeton and Bucks County to shop here. In the past 15 or so years, many markets have opened in the area, giving the Pennington Market a run for their money. What I like about Pennington Market: 1.) That it's a family-owned business. They must treat their employees well because they have had some of the same staff since I was a kid, and that was quite a loooong time ago. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. 2.) Their butcher shop. I am very picky about the type of meat that I buy. I will only buy my meat here, or Whole Foods. They do have a selection of organic meat but it is small. With a phone call, the butchers will prepare a meat order for you and leave it in the refrigerator where you can grab it. 3.) They bag your groceries, ALWAYS. They always have a bagger on every check out lane. 'Nuff said. 4.) Nice flower shop. Good selection, fresh and they deliver. What I don't like about the Market: 1.) It's small town Pennington. You always run into several people you know, and always someone you don't want to see. It gets annoying. 2.) Fish and produce departments. Produce is frequently limp, the fish department doesn't impress me. 3.) The prices. I guess because they're an individually owned store, their prices are high. As a result, I only go there if I need something quick. I prefer to do my big shoppings elsewhere. read more

In these uncertain times, Pennington Market has helped me hold onto some normalcy in my life. I am one of those "elderly" who needs to be extra careful during this time. I'm taking this seriously and staying at home except for my trips to PQM. The curbside service you offer is incredible....starting with the simple on line ordering, the pleasant and patient customer service reps, the payment process and the delivery to my "trunk". Pennington Quality Market (PQM) is a family-owned supermarket located on Route 31 in the Pennington Shopping Center. The staff at PQM are friendly and extremely helpful. The selection is fairly good, though they don't have everything (if you're looking for organic products, a good alternative is Whole Foods Market in Princeton, NJ). Their prices are reasonable. PQM also has a wonderful floral department called "The Flower Shop". Their flower arrangements are beautiful and their flowers are extremely fresh and healthy. I stop there once or twice a month. For my big shops I go to Stop N Shop or to Wegmans near the Quakerbridge mall. PQM is clean, neat, and tidy. They have a nice selection of deli products and the meat selection is good. I really like the hot home-made soup. I like the fact that you don't need a PQM loyalty card to get the sale prices. My only complaint is that the prices are higher than average. read more

PQM is the face of Pennington. I frequently assume that the owner is named Mr. Pennington, and I like to imagine he's a mafia kingpin running the whole town. "Great Family Business!" They said. "Friendly and Personable Staff!" They said. "Always a Great Experience!" They said. I am shocked to say this. But it's the truth. I went to buy a roll of bread for my family lunch. Considering I only had one item I assumed I would have a quick and easy interaction with the cashier. As I went to check out, the employee picked up the roll, looked at it funny, and slammed it back down on the belt. They looked me in the eye and said... "really, fatty? you don't need it." , pointed to the door implying me to leave, and called the next customer in line. Distraught, I ran out of the store and left the bread on the counter. When I moved to Pennington, many of the locals and departing homeowners mentioned PQM for their quality and service. That was 17 years ago and we have not been disappointed. The mailer coupons have very good weekly discounts and the overall shopping experience reflects that small town caring feel. They have greatly enhanced the salad bar with home made soups and the bakery has also improved. There are always baggers and we hope PGM will be here for at least another 17 more! read more

So...about two weeks before my husband's 50th birthday, I'm in Costco trying to organize and buy food for 30 people and I have a meltdown. How in the world am I going to organize, prepare, cook, and serve all this food and have a good time at my own party? I was totally stressed. Monday morning I call the PQM catering and talk to Sandra. She takes charge, goes through my menu and makes some suggestions, accommodates a few special requests on the food, asks about cups/plates/flatware, ice, flowers, servers and - voila! Done! In 15 minutes I had a party being organized for me! On the day of, the food arrived exactly on order and exactly as requested. Ice, flowers - it was all there. I didn't have to double-check or remind them - it just came as ordered. I stressed a little trying to unpack and move food to my serving platters, but as soon as the servers arrived, Joan and Janie, they took over. From that point on, I didnt do a thing but get dressed and go enjoy my own party. They served the food, tended the bar, refilled the platters and converted from appetizers to dinner seamlessly. When they were done, my kitchen was cleaner than it was when they started. I had beef tenderloin and lime grilled shrimp that were a huge hit. The pasta was served room temp and perfect. I didn't really want a green salad, but Sandra said I should have one and it was the right call - lots of people ate it (4 seasons salad). The most memorable dishes were the mini crabcakes, which i barely tasted as they got gobbled up so fast, and lobster deviled eggs that were so good my mouth is watering as I write this. It was not only worth every penny, I pretty sure I couldn't have done it for less at Costco. read more

I got there and although I confirmed it again and should not even have to, they lost this order and put together a tray of 2 day old cookies. The store is very clean and seldom busy, so it is very convenient to shop. The selection of food is very limited and the prices are 30-50% higher than at other stores. I have had several problems with produce (i.e, mold), but the produce was replaced when I brought it back. If you really don't care about prices and aren't choosy about quality, it's your store. There is sort of a cult worship thing that it is our hometown store; I certainly wouldn't care about the high prices if the quality was consistently very good, but it is not. read more

The PQM is a great little store with just about everything you need. I started coming here to grab a quick sandwich In the deli section. The soups are always a nice seasonal selection. Sandwiches, at least the pre made ones can vary, but you can always have one made fresh at the counter. I love the selection of cold salads and their fresh made hummus is amazing as is the broccoli salad, with slaw dressing, nuts and raisins, when it is available. I find myself grabbing items to take home. The meat section is fantastic as is the vegetable section. Yes it's a bit pricey but it is my experience that sometimes you have to pay a little more for quality. Sometimes it's just fun to walk around looking at the new products or grab a soup and people watch in the deli section. read more

4/26/20 - This market isn't what is used to be. New owner, overpriced and getting tough with dissatisfied customers. Never had any problems returning bad products until today. We bought several frozen snacks on 4/25/20, and used one of them on 4/25/2020. We have bought this line of frozen food in many stores and never had a problem. After heating by the directions, the bottom crust was hard and dry. It was freezer burned and hard like stone. Amazing. So today we went back to the market with a complaint about it - and not wanting to keep the other unused ones. The manager (?Owner ?) refused to give even a credit note so we could buy some alternative. He said that they are not allowed to take back "perishable foods". There is no such law in this state. He tossed $3 back at us and walked back into the store with the bad pizzas. Betcha he put them back in the freezer case for some other victim to buy. We never have problems at Stop & Shop, Wegmans, or Shoprite. After decades of shopping here, we will never return. Good luck folks. This business is not BBB accredited. Any wonder? read more

as a kid, we always shopped at Pennington Market. for years it was the ONLY grocery store in Pennington, and even after they added the...............i dunno, A&P? on the circle, we never strayed. the staff is always nice, the bakery and meat/fish sections are clean and have great quality products, and for as far back as i can remember, we ALWAYS got EVERY birthday cake for family parties from their bakery -- always delicious! i will agree with the previous reviewer about running into several people you know -- luckily enough for me, i haven't lived there long enough that noone recognizes me anymore, so i usually get away unscathed. unless my mom sees someone i know, then she drags me over to talk to them. thanks, mom. read more

I like Pennington Market and although the Organic foods selection may be smaller than say Black Forest Acres... it's a middle-class family store in Pennington, not a specialty store. I have an appreciation for the local family owned business, and frequent this store. They support their local community with events and fundraisers, have carolers during christmas.. and you'll always see the huge thank you notes from local school children hanging in the front windows. Their lines run smoothly and quickly.. which is important to me when looking for a super market. read more

I ordered flowers through Pennington Quality Market online for mother's day since this is nearby her home. After ordering, I received a typical order confirmation. A few days later, 8 hours prior to Mother's Day to be exact, they emailed again; simply stating that they were unable to process and deliver the order - they were out of product. I'm sorry but a mother's day order...they should have taken the time to suggest a substitute or offer SOME sort of alternate solution just hours before as it left me no time to send my mother something else. I sent them an email explaining my disappointment in the entire experience to which I received absolutely no response. Fast forward to today - when I realize they charged my account yet never issued a credit for this order which was "unable to be processed." If they fail to respond at this point, I will be taking this up with the BBB. Never again will I be ordering flowers from them. read more

I shopped here today for lunch. May i just say that the salad bar is horrendous! Wilted lettuce, the tuna fish had that dried crusty look to it. It then occurred to me why i don't shop here, oh that and the prices are too high! $1.50 for one avacado? Keep it. I feel bad for the seniors that get snared into coming in here. Nice store, not overwhelming like Wegman's but some interesting things to tempt the hungry shopper. Went there looking for lunch and got a $10 order of sushi, but it was flavorless, rubbery and indeible. Even the shaved ginger had no taste. Definitely NOT house made. Wegman's sushi is $7 and ten times more flavorful. They make their own hummus, which was OK, and i had a house-made steak salad from the deli, which was VERY tasty and not something you see very much. Unfortunately, the place was busy on a Sunday early afternoon and the lines at the register were VERY VERY long. Dude! Sunday is always busy in the grocery business, and your cashiers are all high school kids, so you should at least be able to have enough staff to serve your customers. read more

Got the most gorgeous flowers here for an event. It was a decent sized order and I worked directly with the owner, but she was super unorganized. She took the initial order then couldn't find the paperwork so we had to redo it again. The people behind the counter were honestly average at best when I'd stop in for questions and to drop something off for the event and their delivery person was an elderly man who probably shouldn't be delivering heavy center pieces to venues. He couldn't go down the stairs so we had to bring the flowers down ourselves. I mean he probably could have gone down the stairs but the last thing I need is him falling or dropping something. He didn't look capable at all! I stopped in just today to pick up a bouquet and the lady behind the counter was so rude. Threw everything together, crushed the flowers, acted like I was asking her to jump through hoops by taking the two bundles I bought and sticking them together & just generally couldn't be bothered. I was buying peonies, not dollar carnations! For the price I'd rather just get flowers at Whole Foods or Wegmans. When you're in an upscale area serving clientele from that area you should have better manners. You should have better manners when serving any clientele in any customer service job, but this was just rude for no reason. read more

i have been shopping here my whole life, until now when i am in CO, and love being able to go here when i come home! they make the best choc dougnuts around w/sprinkles, and i make sure to get one everytime i go home or get them shipped to me. they also do a great yogurt parfait w/low fat yogurt and fresh fruit, they have an extensive selection of organic food/gluten free, and their prepared foods are great, esp their turkey chili and veggie lasagna. they do great soups that you can get every day and find in their freezer section, really an awesome market, very friendly and family oriented! My mom also had them make me a custom bday doughnut, which was really nice! But their prices are rather high. read more

As a resident of the area since 1976-our family has shopped here continuously. The first thing that always impressed me was the positive and friendly attitude of all associates. They work with a smile and look you in the eye when speaking to you. How many retail operations does one go to and encounter staff that pays you little mind and are barely civil? The management is to be commended for bringing in quality and keeping it-many of their employees have been there decades! And this is a grocery store. The prices on average seem a little higher but if you shop items on sale, use coupons, etc, you can save money. Remember- all markets have items that are expensive and no one is the cheapest on everything. This is not a "big-box" store with unlimited floor space so it's smaller than a brand-new Wegman's or Stop and Shop. This aside-the store is brightly lit and clean with a good assortment to be found up and down the aisles. PQM is not a single store operation-they are affiliated with the IGA chain and carry their "house brands". I've shopped the other area stores and they are ok but I find the personal touch missing. I prefer to spend money with people that are happy to be of service-guess this is my Midwestern background coming out here! read more
