My family stopped by Penny's diner on our road trip to Utah and had a fantastic experience with this cool retro vibe! This is how the dining experience used to be, and I appreciate that diners like this are still open! My husband and I both had breakfast meals. I had the classic and my husband had chicken and waffles, both were great! My daughter had a huge cinnamon roll and the other got chicken strips. Sorry, no pics of food was too hungry and did not wait to take a picture. Finished up work for the day before heading back to Casper and decided to grab some lunch. It was a cold and very windy day so a cup of chili sounded perfect. The young lady who waited on us said that she had just made it. And the chef said that she makes the best chili in town. Ordered a cup of chili with a side of sour cream. The chili came out quick and fast hot with a large serving of cheese and onions on top. I love a good onion on top of chili. It adds just enough crunch. Asked for my side of sour cream and was informed that they did not have any. We also ordered the jalapeño poppers. They were just OK. I prefer my jalapeño poppers to be stuffed with cream cheese and not cheddar cheese. It gave it a weird texture and I didn't really care for it. It was decorated cutely for the holiday season of Halloween. If you have a large party, you may be split up at different tables as they do have a few booths and then a counter to sit at. Not very large, but the good thing is they are open 24 hours so if you do crave some food in the middle of the night like a breakfast hashbrowns and potatoes, this will be your place to go. read more

Stopped in to get some food after driving 14 hours. Don't let the outside fool you. It looks like a old airstream diner. Walk inside and be ready for a major disappointment. One person handling a complaining customer and the other one was cooking pancakes.The cook came over to us and told us there is a 15 minute wait. You will need to stand, no tables or chairs available. We are both handicapped and could see only to tables were full. At least 3 empty tables and counter chairs were empty. After a few minutes, I googled another restaurant. We left disappointed and I really want people to know, stay away from this place. They will NOT respect you!! read more

Came at 9:40, they told us they didn't open until 10 even though the open sign was still lit up. We waited the 20 minutes, came back in, and our server came over to help us. He kept staring at us very weirdly, it made me and my girlfriend very uncomfortable. When our food came, my burger was missing every topping so I asked him to add on what it was missing, and he just stared at me for a while, said he could do that, and then went to help another customer. When he came back he asked me if I wanted him to add what it was missing, and when I once again confirmed that I did in fact want the food I ordered, he just kept staring at me before making it. The burger I got was a hockey puck, I got more bread than burger. Not to mention the food itself was mediocre at best. Really the only good thing was the fries. Wow! This was the most redeeming quality of having to stay in Rawlins, WY for the night after car troubles. I didn't have the highest hopes because our hotel check-in had been in Penny's Diner, and it seemed it would not be open to the public until 6pm; it seemed to only serve workers prior to this time. The decor was super-charming with the swinging hips Elvis clock, old records including Barbra Streisand, and the retro print tabletops. My son and husband got hand-spun mint chocolate chip shakes and they brought the overflow in a metal cup- plenty for everyone. I ordered the Ruben, and was shocked by the delicious crispness of the sandwich and tater tots. Only gripe was they are short-staffed, as the signs indicate. Cody was working overtime to get everyone's order made swiftly before our very eyes in their open kitchen. Definitely a spot to check out if you find yourself in Rawlins, WY. read more

For a 24 hour a day diner, well it's not. Got there at 9pm and were told sorry we are closed.

Came in, hungry, after a full day of traveling. We have never been to a Penny's, but it seems to be a decent sized chain, suggesting some level of success in doing what they do. Also, diner food is pretty universal and generally quick. It was getting late for the kiddos and they were both tired and hungry, so getting in and out quickly was key. We waited at least 5 minutes to be acknowledged. It turned out to be a "sit wherever you like" sort of place, but there was no sign to that effect, leaving us guessing. Then, they tell us that they have no physical menu and we have to do the QR code thing. Hate that. They were clear that there was no alternative, though, so the SIX of us took turns passing around my ONE phone to peruse their offerings. After that lengthy process, we tried to order, only to be told that they were out of SEVERAL things that we were interested in ordering, triggering more passing around of the phone. Once we had managed to actually order, though, the food was at least an hour in coming. We're talking eggs and grilled cheese. I could have made all of that at home, faster than it came out. There was, like, one other table, too, so athough they seemed short-handed, they weren't exactly BUSY. And here's the kicker, when the food DID finally come our (2 plates at a time with about 10 minutes in between), fully half of what we ordered was wrong: missing things, not what we'd asked for, or different from what was described in the menu. They were unable to rectify any of it. The manager knocked a whopping 12% of the bill and threw in a free sweet roll as a make-good on this cavalcade of incompetence. Really? You could not pay me to eat there, again. I don't know if this is representative of Penny's Diner and how they normally do business, or not. If so, I cannot imagine how they stay in business. read more

I eat here on a regular basis, once every couple of months over the past several years, This location is consistently inconsistent. But, they're open blizzard or wind or missing food delivery or. What they can cook is based on the employee at the moment, and whether the fryer is on or off. But, you'll get something to eat, hot, fresh made, with a smile. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. We stayed at the hotel behind the diner. They give you a menu when you check in and they have cards in the hotel rooms with QR codes telling you to order online. Don't do this! It's a trap. We ordered online and when we went to pick up the order they told us they had been trying to call us because they didn't have the shakes we ordered or the mashed potatoes and gravy. This was no big deal although they shouldn't advertise things they don't have. The real issue is that the person said even though they couldn't give us our order, they were unable to refund any money!! What??!! How is that possible? Open the register and give me the money back! But they did not. Why would they advertise to order online knowing they don't have half the menu items and if they know they can't refund online orders (which makes no sense) why are they letting customers order online??! They gave us a few cookies instead of our money back. They gave us the rest of the order, but instead of fries they gave us tater tots. They are disorganized and the food was mediocre at best! Trust the other bad reviews and steer clear! The only thing this place has going for it is that it's a cute place. Totally not worth the money or the hassle. Terrible customer service! read more

DO NOT stop in at this Diner unless you want two things: 1. Bad Service 2. Mediocre Food Service was definitely almost the worst service I've ever seen at a restaurant. Thought that this cool old diner would be a nice place to stop at but I was very wrong. To eat at this restaurant, you have to have a reservation, and I still wouldn't even reserve food here ever. Not worth it Got my food and once I got my food, I never was checked back in by the server at all, and even when it came time for me to get my check they never came back until eventually after 10 minutes they finally decided to give me my check. Felt very unwelcome. Steer clear of this diner if you want good friendly service and good food regardless. Very rude in how I was treated and there was no one else in the restaurant. We were passing through town and looking for a place for lunch. We found Penny's Diner. We each had the western burger, one with fries and the other with onion rings. The burgers were very good and the fries and onion rings were great. The staff is very friendly and checked back with us a couple of times to make sure we're doing ok and to see if we needed anything. Whet a great find. We highly recommend it. It is also clean and the decor is reminiscent of the traditional 50's & 60's diners. read more

They were out of some vegetables for our Philly steak, the quality the food was pretty poor at best. They are open 24 hours and Rawlings does not have many options, but this is not an option you should take advantage of. Was "greeted" by a cook refusing us service because I have a service dog. Reasoning stated was because the seats are "too close to the cooking area". We asked to be seated in the back "closed off" section and he repeated himself again about the seats being too close. We did go into the back corner, but honestly...after 10 hours of driving I didn't have the energy to argue about ADA compliance overrulwhatever "health code" nonsense he was spewing. What can I add to the other semi-recent reviews. Well the fryer is still down. I guess they won't fix that. Sign on the wall yellowing with age asks for patience as they are short on staff. I guess that is just normal now. The fly strip hanging near the front desk was so fully staffed that the flies hovering over me must not stick any longer. I have to say that the guy serving me tried really hard, and brought me a nice fresh side salad. He just did not hear that I said chef salad. Yah, it looked like half the seating was roped off for whatever reason. It's too bad, the diner concept is pretty cool and could be so much better than it is. read more
