    Classic Eggs Benny!
    Andrew K.

This was a GREAT find in the morning on our way out of town. Service was excellent. Staff was warm & friendly. The food was "the chefs kiss." I'd recommend the Eggs Benny! Incredible riverside view while enjoying breakfast. The post cards were a great touch!

Lots of travelers find it on Yelp and lots of locals deem it a Nextdoor favorite. The place is bustling on a random Monday filled with people the servers know by name and with those they dutifully seat and meet. We were the latter. Our server was friendly. The place is not a diner by east coast standards but instead a small storefront containing a restaurant. It has a room in front and one in back. With the kitchen and bathrooms in between. The difference here is the food! It is 5 Star Midwest type fair here. Good portions and reasonable prices. Oh my! This place had such good food. It easily was the best meal I ate in a week. We sat down already knowing Guy Fieri ate here but didn't know much else. Somehow through pure chance we ordered the three dishes that are the locals favs as we noticed on a card at the table after ordering. The breakfast burrito was the bomb. Yes, you should order it! The eggs with crispy hash browns inside and your choice of meat, I did bacon, was so tasty with the green chili poured over it. It was plate licking good. The 7220 burrito was also a fave with the pork and the same green chili sauce. The chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy was also so tasty. We didn't stop there because we heard about homemade pie and homemade cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon roll was medium sized with home made icing and lots of cinnamon so decadent. The pies we had, peach & strawberry rhubarb, had flaky buttery crusts and full of fruit. One we did as is and one ala mode with a hearty portion of vanilla ice cream. Sooooo good!

With all the hubbub, it was amazingly quiet. Everyone was talking and enjoying their meals, yet we had no problems hearing each other. The coffee gal had our coffees to us asap, with water, and kept them full the entire meal. Our waitress, Keeley greeted us with a warm smile and friendly demeanor. And before we knew it, our meals were served up hot and oh so scrumptious! I definitely recommend - it's worth the 5-10 minute wait! You won't be disappointed! Be sure to bring a to go container for your leftovers - they use styrofoam

We opted to sit in the restaurant, since there was no one else in there. While we were there, several people came in and went back to the bar. We wondered if we should have sat in there instead since it was favored by the locals. We ordered appetizer to share between the two of us, and I ordered a cup of their chicken rice soup of the day. The soup was the star of my meal. I wish I'd gotten a bowl instead, since it had good flavor, and hit the spot. The appetizer, on the other hand, was underwhelming. I tried the deep fried mushrooms, cheese sticks, and buffalo chicken strips. The mushrooms were the best of this grouping. The cheese sticks had a funky, freezer-burnt flavor that I didn't care for. The buffalo sauce was way too spicy for my palate and the chicken strips were doused in it, so I couldn't even scrape it off to eat the chicken. My husband said the jalapeno poppers were pretty flavorless. I'm not sure how much longer this restaurant will be able to survive with little to no patrons, and lack luster food. I'm not planning to return.

The reviews were a little harsh but we decided to give it a try. I had to laugh at the comments that the place should be called Crappies. I ordered the hamburger steak with salad and mashed potatoes. It was actually pretty good. It wasn't just a small hamburger patty but a good sized piece of meat. It was well seasoned but the mashed potatoes were from a box. If you are driving through and are desperate give this a chance.

The restaurant had the feel of rustic but with the modern touch of high ceilings with the ductwork exposed. We liked the place so much we opted to go there for breakfast the next morning. After a week of hotel breakfasts we were ready for real food. The eggs Benedict was perfect as were the hash browns. However, my drink (tea) took around ten minutes to be served. I think they had to brew more. My husband and I both ordered chicken fried steak and eggs. He had wheat toast and I had an English muffin. Our friend ordered pancakes. The chicken fried steak was tiny, and upon closer inspection, was clearly one chicken fried steak cut in half. The English muffin was served cold and not even cut in half on a warm plate. The pancakes looked like bricks. One of my husband's eggs was broken and cooked hard. The food tasted good, just not up to quality restaurant standards in my opinion.

He brought us a water bowl for the dogs, and he gave us a ton of recommendations on the menu as well. For our meal, we started with the dolma and kimchi pancake. The dolma was great, but the star here was the kimchi pancake! It was crispy, flavorful with the dipping sauce, and so delicious I wish we ordered 2. For our entrees, I had the General Tso's cauliflower which was the best fried cauliflower I've ever had. They were sooo extremely crispy and very flavorful! You can't go wrong with these or the cauliflower wings. The sauce on this was a tad spicier than I normally like that day, but that did not bother me given how delicious the dish was. My partner got the lettuce wraps which had a yummy tofu scramble that we also really enjoyed. Overall, I love the concept of comfort vegetarian food that Sweet Melissa offers, and I am so glad we stopped by here. The portion sizes are great, and I forgot to mention the great cocktails we had too! I would definitely come back if I'm in town again.
