We were traveling and wanted a "late breakfast" (~ 1pm) & this diner delivered! We had a nice server Seabri take care of us; we had eggs, pancakes, bacon, etc. The coffee was good and she made one for us "to go". We will be back if we happen to be in the area again.

-Food was bland and not good at all (Tried the chicken fried chicken and burgers) -Took an hour for food to be prepared -Lady Chef appeared very upset and stressed -server kept coming back at least three times to ask questions about our order. Appeared to have forgotten - Place smells bad - Bathrooms dirty Recommend passing on this place and eating at the convenience store /truck stop across the highway

Ok, not gonna lie, wanted my diner badge so I picked a diner to eat at...This place is a keeper! The food I GREAT great! Fresh and tasteful. The pancakes has that crispy edge like mama makes at home. The coffee keeps coming and they are not skimpy with the creamer! Nothing was left on any plate. Servers were friendly and cook was amazing! How can I explain how family friendly and comfortable this place was? It was great. I wish I had space left for dessert! I will have to come back. Breakfast burrito is shareable so you have room for a banana split or dolled up brownie! Come once come often, it's G O O D! Wish I had another star to give.

This place is open for dine-in now. They were only open for take-out during Covid. I stopped here with my son on Saturday, December 10, 2022. The inside and outside of this diner look like they just stepped out of the 1950s. I really like all the nostalgic decorations inside and it is really well lit. My son and I sat at the counter. The waitress told us there are two other Penny's diners in New Mexico (Belen and Santa Teresa) and more in Montana, California, Nebraska and Virginia. She said they are going to open a brand new one in Oklahoma. All of these diners are open twenty-four, seven. She said a lot of the staff at these diners are from other states. The one in Vaughn is tied to the nearby hotel and both cater almost exclusively to railroad workers. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with a side of tater tots and salad ($11.85). The tater tots were very good; crispy outside and soft and warm inside. However, the gravy on the chicken fried chicken was lukewarm and lumpy. In addition, my iceberg lettuce salad tasted stale and looked visually unappetizing. The service was fast and friendly and the inside of this diner is magnificent. I've had a burger here before and it was average, but better than the chicken fried chicken. Visit the place for the nostalgia and stick with the lunch menu and stay away from the salad!

A classically old school roadside diner with friendly staff. We stopped here on our way to Roswell for a quick Friday lunch and were happy with the results. The staff spent much time talking about the surrounding area and warned us away from Roswell due to the prior week flooding. Without their advice, we might have ended up in a mess.

Classic 50's diner style with an open and welcoming environment.

I see that several of the reviews note that there is no indoor dining. Is this a covid practice? Or is there another reason? I was at Penny's several years ago and there was indoor dining then.

I was there on April 30th 2022 and there was indoor dining. They seemed to be short staffed and the place needed a good cleaning. The food was mediocre but the diner itself is right out of the 50's and has the making of a great place to go.

I decided to stay with the Mexican food theme. I had a taco, an enchilada, and a chile relleno. Everything was good! I haven't had a good chile relleon in a long time, and this one was good. The sauce was good on the enchilada. Everything was good. I had a tickle in my throat, and the chile was a bit spicy and made me cough, but it was good. I enjoyed the food and the company. The restrooms were retro, very 90s, run down but clean, and if I was running from the Sinaloa Cartel...I could picture myself hiding in a place like this. Almost like a mix between the films Memento and Breaking Bad. But yes, Lisa's Grill. I had to stop in at this Southwestern Flare Diner! It's situated inside the truck stop, with a very 70s & 80s atomic age diners vibe like that one scene in the Kingsmen movie. Loved the ceiling, bold colored red, glossy, with silver...makes Johnny Rockets look artificial. So I had to try their top picks on the menu. The Red Rooster -- country fried steak with red hot sauce, and their hatch chilli burgers. The food was ok, Id probably rate a 3.5/5. Menu is heavily influenced by Spanish cuisine. If your looking for a quick breakfast along route 66 in Central New Mexico, this is a good spot to take a break. Overall service, environment food I'd give it a 4/5. Seems pretty popular amongst the locals, and place is pretty packed for a lunch run. Yea, definitely come check it out!

Without food, but you could bring your own or order in. Nope, the brewery closes at 5:00 on a Saturday. We asked at our lodging about options, and Blackie's was on a list they gave us. Blackie's was classified on Yelp as only a liquor store, so it didn't show up on any searches. They do have a package liquor store on site as well. The front entry that is shared with the liquor store had bars on the doors. Inside, Blackie's had VFW/event hall vibes. There was not much to speak of in the way of decor. They did have food and you need to order from the Double C dining room server, which shares the space, and if you're sitting at the bar you'll have a separate tab. I was glad to see they had enchiladas with green or red chile sauce, and burgers with green or red chiles (1/2 pound or 1/3 pound). Prices were reasonable at $12-ish for a meal. The bar and neighboring large room featured pool tables and darts, and a 20-ish year old TouchTunes but there was no music playing. Sounds like after the dinner crowd leaves the music might get turned up. Our vantage point view was staring into an empty room with booths and wooden chairs, but eventually some people filed in there to play pool. There was no internet on our AT&T phones which led us to watch rodeo tv and talk to some of the customers. I drank vodka tonics and the Mr. had Coors Banquet. Our bar tab was cheap. Mr. R ordered the nachos, and they were pretty huge. I ordered enchiladas with green chile sauce and the presentation was quite nice and the beef tasted fresh. It was a good choice. People had to wait a bit at times for drinks, but overall this turned out to be a better stop than we expected!

5 Stars - A Hidden Gem in Moriarty, NM…read more Chili Hills may not look like much from the outside, but don't let the unassuming exterior fool you--this place is fantastic! We stopped in for dinner based on the glowing Yelp reviews, and they were absolutely right. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine warmth and friendliness. The vibe was laid-back and local, with just a few other diners--it is Moriarty, after all--but the service was top-notch. Hubby was thrilled to see they serve all-day breakfast, so he went for the pancakes, and I ordered the combo fajitas (chicken and steak). While waiting, they brought out chips and salsa. The salsa was a bit too spicy for me, but no problem--they happily brought ranch dressing instead. Win! The food portions? HUGE. My fajitas were sizzling perfection--tender meat, just the right amount of peppers and onions, and all the fixings: guac, lettuce, cheese, salsa, tomatoes, and soft flour tortillas. So good. Five big ol' flavor booms. Hubby gave the pancakes two thumbs up--and he's picky about his pancakes, so that's saying something. Two hearty meals, drinks (yay for Diet Dr. Pepper!), friendly service, and all for around $45. Totally worth it. We'd go out of our way to eat here again on our return trip. Highly recommend this spot if you're anywhere near I-40 and need a satisfying, no-frills, home-style meal.
