Ice cream was delicious. But at the wedding venue this weekend my daughter needed dairy free ice cream for her son. Which you advertise dairy free. She asked the girls if it truly is dairy free and no chance of cross contamination. The girls could not guarantee no cross contamination because they use the same scoop and the same water to rinse the scoops. If you advertise dairy free make sure you train your girls to take precautions to keep it dairy free. If my daughter wouldn't have asked and just assumed it would be dairy free that could have been disasterous for my grandson. They have an actual store on prince street now. It has a lovely backyard patio. They bought the ice cream from the previous owners on Carmen and David's. The ice cream is some of the best I've had. Their kids cones are only $1.35! The staff is so friendly and service is quick. It's a great local spot to take the kids. This was the cutest little ice cream place and the girls working behind the counter were the absolute sweetest. As soon as I stepped inside the smell was intoxicatingly delicious and I told the girls right away how delicious it smelled. They said it was because they were making waffle cones and they make theirs with almond. It smelled so sweet and better than anything I have smelled. I wasn't planning on getting a waffle cone but I had to after trying that. The cone was so tasty, it was a different texture and the taste was definitely sweeter. Wow. Just wow. Visiting Lancaster from NY and Penny's was recommended by my Airbnb host. It did not disappoint! It's a cool little place with a mini ice cream parlor setup for kids to play and color to the side. The ice creams are to die for. Creamy, fresh and delish. I tried Blueberry Cheescake (good, light blueberry flavor, Chocolate Coconut (fantastic dark chocolate with loads of fresh coconut) and Black Raspberry (tied with the Chocolate Coconut as my favorite). We missed Carmen and David's when they closed and were excited to see a new shop selling their ice cream (because let's not forget, Penny's doesn't actually make their own stuff). The quality of C&Ds ice cream is great but the lack of professionalism from Penny's owner was disappointing, to say the least. The truck was parked behind my work with no sign indicating that it was anything other than open and ready to serve. When several employees went to purchase ice cream, the owner who was scooping said he refused to serve them unless they were F&M students. He was there to work an event, in a public parking lot with no signage saying that it was an exclusive event and nothing to show he was unavailable to other guests. If it had been noted somewhere that it was a private event (albeit in a public space), or if the students had been getting the ice cream for free, we would have understood. As it was, the students were being required to pay for their scoops. When I went over he refused to serve me until I informed him that I was an F&M alum. He then lied and said he had not refused service to the other employees but that he simply had to serve students first. There were absolutely no students in sight, when we had initially gone to purchase there were only two students, and in either case he flat out refused instead of asking them to just wait for students first. The owner was sarcastic when he "apologized" and we left. Pennys lost out on at least $40 in sales and 12+ customers from all areas of the city who will be getting their sugar fix elsewhere from now on. Moral of the story: if you need dessert in Lancaster, head over to Splits & Giggles or Dough & Co. at least you'll have service and a smile. read more
