Two folks from Penobscot came to clean our carpets throughout the house and to clean upholstery at the same time. We are incredibly happy with the result - the carpets, which hadn't been professionally cleaned in years (if ever!) look, I'm not kidding, like new. What a difference. Heed the warning. They'll be very polite and promise you anything. After overcharging you and not doing the work that was promised, they quickly begin the threats. Threats to come after you if you don't pay up, threats to sue you for defamation if you give them a bad review. Scary and unprofessional, I agree with the other reviewer who referred to the owner as a thug. read more

We recently incurred water damage to our upstairs laundry room in our home and engaged Penobscot Cleaning to repair the damage. The downstairs kitchen ceiling was repaired and the insurance check of $1,700 was signed over to them. The laundry room damage was more severe, resulting in a quote of $4,000 and an insurance check for $3,700. The employee (Daniel) suggested that he could simply repair the separated vanity panels by glueing on new ones rather than purchasing and installing a new vanity, resulting in a significant savings. We agreed. Upon completion, we were charged the full quoted amount of $4,000. I attempted to explain that Daniel had not performed the quoted work (a new vanity, fixtures, and painting the room.) and asked for a bill for the vanity repair. Their e-mail reply included rude threats, ending with an ultimatium. Shortly thereafter they exercised their threat by charging my cedit card $4,000. We will litigate this travesty, and fully expect a favorable verdict. In the meantime, stay far away from these crooks. read more

We needed a sewage cleanup on a dirt basement. One of the pipes broke. This company said they could NOT provide an estimated quote beforehand, but we went ahead with their service anyway. This was our first mistake. Long story short, they were there for several hours going in and out of the basement, disseminating lime, then left. We had someone observing the technicians the whole time. The invoice claimed they were there for 16.5 hrs, that the technicians DUG UP the dirtied soil and disposed of it. None of this was true. As stated, we had someone observing to ensure our interests were protected. A second mistake was not video recording the process. We were essentially charged over $3,500 for the sprinkling of lime (which costs less than $10 for 50 lbs at Home Depot by the way). We reached out to the operations manager with this complaint. We felt we had been scammed and even reported it to the credit card company. He rebuffed and threatened to put a lien on the property and cc'd the lawyers. Please get a quote or a free consultation prior to the service. A reputable company will not do this! read more

In response to Mr. Bishop, even here you continue to lie about what was stated and assert what was stated, was not what was stated. Burl is not hearing impaired. And again I state for the record that my wife did NOT demand anything. In fact the woman to whom she spoke seemed to go out of her way to be difficult, she was rude and very condescending. If that kind of behavior on the part of your employees is how you define customer care and value, then I strongly suggest you reassess. And to be clear, the carpet to be cleaned is that which the Penobscot Cleaning crew dirtied during their cleaning operations. In other words, they refuse to come back and clean up the mess they made! Even after committing to do so once the repair work was completed. So to be clear, unbelievable though it may seem, Penobscot Cleaning wants to be paid to do a follow-up cleaning of the carpet their crew dirtied. I also believe it to be very important that anyone looking for reviews of your company note that instead of offering an apology on behalf of your very rude employee, you choose to continue the argument and the outright falsehood that my wife made any "demands" OF ANY KIND! To all who read this, please take note of the kind of non repentant response which was provided. THIS is what they call valuing their clients. read more

They call themselves a "24-hour emergency service" but you won't see them until days after your emergency call. Then when they finally show up they won't actually clean, they'll just spend all day producing an estimate. In my case they didn't smell mold in the air they smelled a fat insurance check & wanted to pad it as much as possible. If you need honest help fast, I suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Penobscot sent two cleaners who cleaned the stain, and they were great. However, I have found that some of their cleaners are better than others. The first set of cleaners didn't care about the work, that was clear...while the second set were vey conscieUse them, but monitor the work and demand that they do the job correctly. read more

Save yourself a World of Trouble and call wonderful Harold at Acadia Carpet Care in Bar Harbor instead! These people hate their customers, particularly those like me who are "from away," and the owner behaves like a thug. After years of patronage, because they were the only game in town, and $thousands spent with their company, they are holding our small decorative Halloween front doormat hostage demanding $65 for cleaning or they will dispose of it. Rue the day when I decided as I was driving by the Ellsworth store to drop it off there instead of calling Harold. I have never encountered such rude, nasty and unprofessional people as the owner and staff. Harold would have doubtless cleaned the doormat for free. read more

I recently asked Penobscot Cleaning for an estimate to clean my basement. I was aware that there were some issues with mold in my basement. When I first called them, I was told that for $150 they produce a "microbial inspection report," with a thorough analysis of mold, a professional report that I can use in case I wanted to sell the house. Moreover, I was told that I would get the $150 back if I hired them to do the job. Well, the person who dropped by performed a cursory inspection, measuring the moisture level, and stating that I perhaps have mold in my basement (something that I knew). The report that was sent to me was only a boiler-plate cost estimate that other companies generate for free, with no useful information. The estimate came over $1,000 more than the second highest estimate for the same service, and further, I was told that to be credited the $150, I would have to do everything that was recommended by them. Be very careful if you decide to work with Penobscot Cleaning. read more
