Surprisingly, many locals are unaware of them, which is both a great thing (for loyalists) and shocking (given how incredible the products are). I recently stopped back in Maak Lab to update some of my scents, and I was so thankful that the Dafodyl is still in stock. There is something for everyone here, and you're bound to learn more about what scents work for you. I remember my first experience here in 2021 when I realized I am a "green" scent guy. This has been very helpful in my journey to collect more scents to wear, especially when traveling. You should also have this support! Maak curates dozens of products for notable brands and businesses in Portland. When you stop by here, I guarantee you'll be impressed by the connection to some of your favorite establishments. You can even purchase soaps, scents, candles, and many other products that brands you love to create with Maak. I still enjoy knowing that the Knot Springs soap I love is something I can purchase for home. Support local, and keep returning to the excellent Maak Lab team.

I went with two of my gfs and we had a wonderful time smelling SO many smells, learning about the history of fragrance, and making our own scents! I was pleasantly surprised at how challenging it was to nail the scent I was going for (strawberry pastry lol) and I would absolutely go back again to make something new. If you're considering it, def do it!

There were several staff members circulating through the store and each one of them was determined to have a conversation with each of the customers. I found this distracting as I was trying to experience the energy of the crystals and am overall rather introverted. Despite my disinterest in conversation I had to repeatedly engage with additional staff members who wanted to show me the UV light on the stones, ask what I was looking for, talk to me about the store in general, the crystals in general, the reiki in specific, and comment on my way of selecting my stones. I don't really want to discuss my personal situation with strangers in a crowded store and the continual attempts to have long exchanges were draining to me. Is this a sales strategy? Because I definitely would have asked to see the moldavite behind glass if I hadn't already been talked out by the staff! Perhaps the store owners could employ sales training that is less aggressive and more consensual, and/or a way of communicating that a particular customer doesnt seem to want conversation. I wasn't going to leave a review but then I got an email from them - after being repeatedly assured that I wouldn't receive emails from them when I signed up for the customer rewards program. It's a little thing but the final straw for me in the pushy communication department. I'm sure this whole vibe works for lots of people but for a crystal savvy neurodivergent person it really could have gone better.

They have used and new books for sale at an exceptional price. They have stationary, puzzles, games, and cute accessories for your bibliophile in your life. We visited to purchase books for my bookshelf, as I am finishing my first book while we are on vacation. I found the second volume of a used edition book for 7 dollars off the full price. I also found a used edition of a book I've been searching for in California! Could I have bought it online? Yes, but I enjoy using my time to support mom and pop book shops instead. Each floor of books is categorized and labeled, so you know where you're headed. For example, one room is called the "gold room" had all the manga and romance books. Dependent on what you're looking for in genre, they've got it! If you are looking for a specific book, they have kiosks on every floor for you to type and look for your book. We used their computer, and our book was labeled by aisle and directed into the blue room. We bought two books, magnets, a patch, and a tote. It is a wonderful store and absolutely matched my expectations. We spent a great time walking through each room and checking out what they had to offer. Truly a magnificent collection of books!

Many used books are in great condition and a good price. It is great for souvenirs and gifts if you are visiting Portland from out of town. I love how organized and efficient it is when you're looking for a book and many staff recommendations if you're just there to browse and pick up a book. Staff are everywhere and available. Crowd wise, it seems to be busy all the time but there is plenty of space to maneuver around people if needed. Always a great way place to stop by when traveling to Portland!
