I have been a customer of Pens a Needles since they've opened. My mother and I have been following them around town since the beginning of time. We've been customers of Dubs since he was an apprentice. When they moved to Jordan, my mother, Fiancé, and I visited (without an appointment as many do) and were greeted by a very disgruntled young lady who was not kind or welcoming AT ALL. She huffed and puffed, asked what we wanted, said we could sit down, nobody was there, just wait. Some cop walked in- she was SUPER DUPER friendly with him- then Dub walked in and her demeanor completely changed. She introduced herself, "Hi, my names Jules- how can we help you today?" Wow! Talk about whiplash! So we focused our energy on Dub. He introduced me to Nila and showed me her work. I paid a deposit to hold an artist, but no appointment was ever booked, no artist time was used, and no design work was created. The artwork was entirely my own, and I simply decided to change the design before moving forward. Despite this, I was told my deposit was "forfeited" due solely to changing my design - even though no services had been provided and no work had begun. The shop refused to refund the deposit until I involved an attorney, at which point the money was returned. I'm sharing this so future clients understand how deposits are handled here. Transparency and fairness matter, especially in an industry built on trust. We even donated to Nila's benefit when her house burned down. This is how you treat the people in the community that build you back up? What a shame. read more

Talented artists but horrible communication. I thought a connection was built with these artists, especially after feeding them money, but they are indifferent when it comes to scheduling. They are rude when something doesn't work out the way they expect and have been cancelled on multiple times after traveling hours to the location. Good luck trying to help artists understand situations regardless of outrageous prices being fullfilled. read more

My first contact was at the old location in Bossier and that day they were packing to relocate to Jordan St in Shreveport. The energy was amazing upon my first encounter. I was not able to get artwork done that day due to the move. Fast forward 6wks later, contacted them by email and got artwork the same day. This was the best experience ever. let me first state that i work in the creative field as well, so leaving a review on yelp kind of hurts me. not so much a review, but just kind of sharing my experience. i had tried to set up an appointment with a different tattoo artist initially but when i came in they kind of disregarded that and set me up with someone who just started working there, and they didn't have his portfolio out or really any info on where to find his work, so it's less then ideal for someone who waited a really long time for a tattoo that's visible at all times. all i had to go off was when i asked if his work was good, to which i got a "yeah he's pretty good." before you get a tattoo you hear all of these stories about people that get their first tattoo and it ends up having a word misspelt. you kind of think, that's pretty funny but it wouldn't happen to me. Nah, it happened to me, directly on my forearm, on a tattoo that means a lot to me. i spent a hundred dollars more then what i was quoted, even before tip (which i thought was a little high for an album track list.) It's almost as if i wasn't allowed to have a say in how i wanted it to look either. i tried asking for a couple small tweaks and he basically just said no. Overall, i like the tattoo despite the misspelt word and the sloppiness of the text (you can see where he dragged the gun in parts and some letters aren't distinct.) I am a super laid back person and i know everyone makes mistakes, so it's not necessarily the misspelt word that bothers me, it's that when I came back for a touch up, i waited an hour and a half before i left because they couldn't get ahold of the artist. once again, people get sick and that doesn't bother me either. it's that when he showed up and i told him about the misspelt word, his only reply was "Oh well, you are probably the only one who will notice it." im not the only person who has, and even if i were - i have to look at it everyday of my life. what sucks is that the artist and the rest of the staff here are really nice and welcoming. it's just a shame because the people are cool and I have seen really great work come out of the place, i just wish some things were different. read more

I took my daughter here last night for her first tattoo. She had the most amazing experience with Dub. He was so particular and patient and he has the best personality. He stayed way over his shift to make sure that my daughter was completely happy with everything. We drove 3 1/2 hours in from Texas for this experience and I couldn't have asked for a better, more personable experience and we will definitely be back!!! 5000 stars for you Dub! unwelcoming environment. the receptionist unprofessional and doesn't seem to give a shit abt anything. kind of an asshole tbh. my friend booked an appt with jlynn and we came in on the appt time and turns out he wasn't in town. pretty shitty customer service and when we the receptionist offered to call the artist for us, we said yes and she rolled her eyes. lol don't offer if you don't wanna do the work. i went here for my tatto and the service was just as bad. the artist is cool but the receptionist just shit on the whole experience for me. won't be back. read more
