Very happy they have re-opened! Went here for dinner on Friday and really enjoyed it. Food: You order food at the cash register in the back and pick it up yourself when your buzzer goes off. Almost reminds me of a food truck, but within the bar. We got the chilli cheese fries, shrimp and grits, as well as shrimp tacos. All the food we had was very good! The dinner entrees are only $7, so it is very reasonably priced and you get a good serving size. Service: The bartender, chef, and restaurant owner all stopped by to see how we were doing. They were extremely friendly and very attentive. We got our food within 8 minutes of ordering, so it came out very fast! Atmosphere: they did a great job of styling the bar. You could definitely find some "Instagram worthy" pictures in there. This would be a great place to grab a drink/quick dinner before a Reds game or going downtown (or prior to a concert in Newport once the concert venue is built). It's very casual and not very crowded. Bar: they had about ~6 beers on draft, several can options, and a variety of mixed drinks. Most of the beers appeared to be local breweries, so I really liked that. Overall, great place! I'm excited for more people to find this hidden gem. This is a welcome spot in Newport, KY and anywhere that serves brunch on the weekends is a gem in my books. 27 is located in a fun industrial building with exposed brick on one side of the entire room and a looooooong marble-topped bar. The entire space is super spacious AND they take brunch reservations! I came in early on a Saturday to enjoy brunch. Our server highly recommended the biscuits and gravy and the breakfast grits, so naturally, that's what we ordered. I am so glad we heeded those recommendations because I was so so happy with the food! The biscuits and gravy: oh my word! Housemade biscuits are perfectly buttery and flaky and salty and just perfect. And their gravy is goetta gravy! Hands down one of the best breakfast gravies I have tasted. It had SO MUCH FLAVOR and the portion size was generous. We opted to add a fried egg on top, and that was a tasty idea that I would recommend for all. There are just not enough restaurants in Cincinnati serving up grits, so any time they show up on a menu, I am game to try. These grits were perfect. So much flavor, cooked to perfection and a huge portion. The breakfast grits are done New Orleans etouffee style and the flavor is unreal with just the right amount of spicy. Add in a slice of avocado and a poached egg and it is literally out of this world. This is a dish that I will absolutely order again. I am looking forward to making 27 our go to brunch location, but I'm also looking forward to giving their dinner menu a try because there are some serious good options on there. The prices are a little higher, but they use locally sourced ingredients and the quality of the food we received justified the price in my opinion. Just had a great dinner here! Walked in and sat at the bar. The place just opened this week I think. The ambiance is cool with exposed brick and real awesome lighting. The music was great too. Not too loud- you could still have a conversation. We ordered the elote appetizer to start which is homemade chips with a cheese corn dip. It was to die for! They need to sell that stuff canned. The chips were crunchy and were like Doritos on steroids. We devoured it. I started with the Lou Pinella and my date got the Gavel. Both were great. Mine was a tequila drink with a great spicy shrub add in and his was a bourbon of sorts. The drinks are strong and great for the price. Those same drinks would be at least $10 downtown. For dinner we got the Monmouth Salad with bruschetta. Both were superb. The salad was super fresh and summery. It was huge too! The bruschetta had great slices of Mozzarella. Think and kept the whole dish together. The best part was the chef, Colin, coming to talk to us. Just a great personable guy. I can see him doing great there. He had a passion for the business and was very kind. The manager, Alex, also was serving and keeping tabs on all the tables. He was great too. Told us where he was From and how they got started. We really appreciated the effort to make sure all was well. This is right down the street from our apt and we will definitely be back. the service was great and the staff were all very personable. This is the second time I've been to 27 Bar+Kitchen and it was as good this time as it was last so I needed to write a review. For how good the food is there was surprisingly few people here for dinner. The first time my fiancé and I stopped in we were blown away by the menu and the fact that everything was just $7. We decided to put their menu to the test. We ordered the pretzel bread and beer cheese, BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich, and cheesy shrimp and grits. The pretzel bread is not pretzels, but don't let that dissuade you. The bread it warm, a little crispy, and lightly salted While the beer cheese is hot and creamy with a hint of the Madtree Happy Amber it's made with. It was so good we got it the second time. The shrimp and grits was delicious, it came with a generous helping of shrimp with the tails on. The grits were nice and hot and cheesy and I love my grits with some hot sauce. Luckily they have a few to choose from at the register. Now to the BBQ pulled pork. The bun was amazing. The chef let us know their secret of putting compound butter on the outside to make it crispy while the inside was still fluffy. The pork itself was juicy and flavorful, so much so that it was no problem that came without sauce. Add the fact it was topped with coleslaw like a true BBQ pork sandwich should and it jumped to my favorite of the meal. Unfortunately second time we went they were out of pulled pork so I had to "settle" for The 27, their burger. I put settle in quotes because it was still delicious. With pico de gallo, chipotle mayo, melted provolone, and the same bun as the pulled pork, I had to force myself o pause between bites so that I had time to enjoy it. My fiancé got the Mac and Cheese and it was just as good as the rest. Creamy homemade cheese sauce that you can taste is with a blend of real cheeses. Topped with crispy bread crumbs to add a little crunch, this was a good end to the meal. If you made it this far I thank you, and the fact that I don't review places ever should show how good I thought this place was. Brunch here was good, but not super memorable. I would say the food was average, but the ambiance and service were good, so I would come back to 27 Bar+Kitchen. On a last minute whim, my friends and I decided to get brunch in KY with a group of 6. There's not many places that you can just walk in and find a table for brunch, but 27 was super accommodating and had a table ready for us in under 5 minutes. The restaurant is industrial and modern, with a big bar on one wall and exposed brick and ventilation. I ended up getting the breakfast hash with bacon ($10), and my husband got the steak and eggs with chimichurri ($12). It took quite a while to get our food, to the point where I was starting to get anxious/hangry. I really liked the potatoes in my hash, but the ratio of potatoes to meat/eggs was way off. I basically just ate a huge bowl of potatoes, with one egg and two slices of bacon, so it didn't really feel like a hash to me. Also the meat was not combined into the potatoes, just sitting on top. The menu also said there would be onions and peppers in it, but there weren't that many, so it was just a lot of potato. The steak and eggs was better, and the chimichurri was especially delicious. You could put that chimichurri sauce on anything and I would eat it. Everyone else we were with seemed to like their food. Overall, this place was good, and a solid option for brunch. The goat cheese was creamy and the thin slice of pear on top was a nice touch. The steak was cut so you could take easy bites which is nice since bruschetta can be hard to eat! The tuna tacos were very good but not the star of the meal. The fries were outstanding! Crispy and salty and served with three awesome dips. Super garlicky pesto, aioli, and Bloody Mary ketchup. First time at this restaurant/bar. Sophisticated atmosphere but casual feel. Best part of the experience was the service. The bartender and also one of the owners were exceptionally friendly and provided excellent service. The owner let me try both the bourbon and vodka. Not a bourbon person but the bourbon was smooth with a pleasant aftertaste. The vodka was very good. Distilled from corn, tasted very similar to Titos. Tasted great on its own and also with tonic. Did not try the food other than french fries and fried Oreos. The chef brought the Oreos out unsolicited to try! Light batter and drizzled with chocolate. Wow! This looks like a repurposed apothecary on the main drag in Newport. The bar has a marble top, the shelves have cool little niches, and lots of natural light from the big picture windows and glass block transom. The atmosphere is nice but laid back, as the background noise is low, the lone TV is muted, and the female waitstaff were all in summer dresses. Not all that busy on a Saturday evening when DLW and I stopped in. We had no problem finding a seat at the bar, and the bartender had plenty of time to chat about the menu and drink offerings. A gingery cocktail called a raspberry donKY (see what the did there?) was light and refreshing. The signature appetizer is elote dip, which was pretty sweet but had all of the desired flavors of corn, cheese and butter. DLW's pork chop was highly recommended, and it was quite nice. Shrimp and grits are a go-to whenever I see it, and these were good with wispy strips of caramelized onion and bacon. They have a very nice espresso machine, but we'll have to try that affogato another time. The quality of everything was good enough to justify the prices, although some may disagree. It's a bit of a drive for us coming from Cincinnati, but we enjoyed it enough to come back. read more

This place lived up to all my expectations! Northern Kentucky really needed a place like this. Everything we ordered was delicious and fairly priced. Elote Dip, Pepper/Mozzarella bruschetta, Rueben, pasta carbonara, and pork chop were excellent but my favorite thing was definitely the smoked Gouda Mac and cheese. Drinks were creative and refreshing and cappuccinos were tasty and rich. Service was fantastic--attentive, friendly, and accurate. Cool space and story. ONLY complaint is there was no dessert! They said they will be adding some soon. I'm happy they take reservations but it is difficult to get in touch with someone since they have limited hours. You know when you see an empty restaurant at a busy time of day with a full staff just standing around and you think, "wow, that place must not be very good," so you turn around and go another way? I am SO glad I did not do that when I encountered the exact situation today for brunch. My friend and I ventured in to see what the hype on Yelp was about. Although the restaurant was close to empty, we chose to sit at the bar. We got exceptional service by friendly staff. The menu is simple, but there is a great selection - of drinks and food. I ordered the Breakfast Sammy with a side of potatoes and boy was it delicious! My friend got biscuits and gravy with a side of goetta. He enjoyed both, but I thought the biscuits were a little heavy on the rosemary. 27 B+K is using local vendors for coffee and even getting produce from community gardens to create fresh dishes "Of the Moment." All in all, I think that 27 Bar + Kitchen is seriously cool and bringing elements of brunch that you're used to seeing in OTR to Northern Kentucky and I love it! Because it's a new restaurant, they haven't advertised or marketed much and the hours are limited - so check this place out before you have to wait an hour to get a spot for brunch! read more

We just had dinner here and we will definitely go back, and soon, and with friends. The decor has an industrial vibe - love the iron beams as a side bar table/shelf - and yet a casual intimate feel at the table. I had the Grilled Cheese of the Moment and it was a really good Moment: brioche bread, fontiago cheese, greens, tomatoes, chives and some other kind of cheese and grilled perfectly. Very, very tasty! Lovely side salad with all kinds of stuff and nice and fresh. He had the fish tacos which were really good too and some kind of nummy sauce. They had just the right hint of zing in them. Really good and I'll get those next time. We started with the fries which came with 3 dips: bloody mary ketchup, tomato bacon salsa and sriracha dip. All really good and fries were hot and perfectly salted. We sampled their bourbon barrel gin and tonic with lemon and a large sprig of fresh rosemary - oh so fragrant with each sip!!! We came for a drag bingo but didn't stay for it .. there is seating for about 25 people and they were very busy but we got a seat . We ordered drinks which were served in clean glasses and were decent drinks. Then we went back up ( no servers here) to order food which are all around 16 dollars. We ordered shrimp and grits , chicken fingers and burgers so a bit of everything for everyone . The servings are small which is fine when things are amazing tasting but 2 very dried out chicken fingers and 10 French fries ( yes we counted them ) for 16 dollars is a lot. The grits were really dried out and the shrimp were ok flavor but hardly any sauce left for the grits. Overall very disappointed but they were very busy so I guess they won't miss us. I was excited to try this restaurant and it was not very good at all. My mom, aunt, cousin and I went here for a girls lunch and all of us were unhappy. I had the breakfast tacos which were ok, but they were lacking flavor and barely had anything in the actual tacos. I was eaating a lot of plain tortilla. My mom said the same about hers. My aunt had the pretzel bread and beer cheese and it was the most depressing meal I have ever seen. It didn't look like pretzel bread.. it looked like sliced bread and she got enough cheese to dip one piece of bread in it. That is not an exaggeration. I couldnt believe they even served it to her. I was planning on bringing my fiancé something home for lunch and I text him and told him I would pick him up something on the way home. They serve BRUNCH.ALL.DAY. And on Friday! The food is unbelievable, the decor is lux and urban, the service is second to none, and the whole vibe is just on point. We had the Signature Shrimp & Grits and the Vanilla Bourbon French Toast, and had to fight over the last bite of each. To top it all off, we were also treated to experimental (and delicious) Nutella monkey bread. The blood orange soda Mimosa was light and effervescent, but their award-winning Bloody Mary has an aged brine that both quenches and bucks the trend of 'meals in a glass.' Our food came out in less than 10 minutes, yet we managed to spend 2 hours chatting with the owner and head chef - who we mostly had to ourselves due to the unconventional timing of our meal. This place falls into the Hidden Gem category. Or maybe not-yet-discovered. You get it! A well done remodel of an older building, was a thrift store in a previous life according to owner Scott. Has a limited but decent selection of beers and wines, and I think they are "taking suggestions". The kitchen part of Bar + Kitchen has a short menu but we haven't been disappointed with anything we've gotten. Last night we had a quick snack of tots and the Hummus of the Moment which were delicious. I had a Sumpin' Sumpin' then a Coast to Coast and my wife some Pinot Grigio. Scott was tending bar and it was full when we arrived. Scott is very friendly and attentive too and we met Tobias at the Kitchen. I highly recommend this newly opened space, even at the risk of us not being able to get in if it's too packed! LOL. And it seems they're prepping a patio out back, plus there are already out front tables on Monmouth when it's nice out this fall. I love this new addition to Monmouth St in Newport. I attended their soft opening last weekend and their grand opening this weekend. It is an OTR flare (for those who know) for which we have been waiting for n Newport. Their menu is brief, but high quality and something for everyone. Most everything is made from scratch and it pays off. The staff is totally committed to make your experience memorable. They are still working out their startup kinks, but it does not detract from this five stare rating. They have all the energy to make this a great place. The food is outstanding. read more

This was a super cute little find for brunch on Sunday! Delicious mimosas, you can pick from a variety of juices to pair with the Prosecco (I highly recommend the blood orange). The only thing that wasn't my favorite were their "famous" Bloody Mary's. Way too much of a vinegar flavor. We came on a Thursday night and there was a moderate crowd. We sat at the bar and had great service. I ordered the Lou Piniella ($8), sort of margarita like with a twist (bourbon-tequila and cilantro). It was pretty refreshing and a pretty good summertime drink. I had the fried chicken for dinner ($16) - in general, I thought it was a slightly dry/over cooked. The breading was delicious and it was really tasty when I dipped it in the Sauce from the vegetables, but when that ran out, I found myself wanting some sort of sauce/dip. The smashed red potatoes were delicious, as were the vegetables (zucchini, yellow squash I believe, onions and peppers). My husband had the chicken club- similar to my meal, the chicken was on the dryer side and we wanted more aioli - but the bread was delicious. Loved the pork belly & carrots on the sandwich fries were the perfect side. Overall, I thought our meals were a bit on the pricey side - but it's a cool place with good service.
