They did a top notch job with neutering, microchip, tattoo and I even had his nails cut and it was well done. They informed me that he had had diarrhea and he was all cleaned up. I was referred to People for Animals by several friends, because of low vet pricing. I took my mini dog there to be neutered December 7, 2021, and immediately after I picked him up he seemed fine but he kept urinating in the house. Something he was NOT doing prior to surgery, but I figured his muscles were weak since he's fresh out of surgery, so I kinda let it slide. But fast forward 3 months later, as I'm telling family about this new issue, my family advised me that that's not normal & to take my dog back there for an evaluation. I did, March 26, 2022. They collected payment AND a urine sample, and told me they'll call me in 2 days with the results. Well, today is April 28, 2022 and I STILL don't have results from them, AND he's still doing it (often)! I called them, no answer. I text their texting number that they use, no answer. I drove there AND THEY STILL DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY RESULTS, NO REFUND, NO NOTHING!!! **Mind you gas prices are $4.99 a gallon** Now I started a claim dispute with my financial institution for services NOT rendered! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! I wouldn't even recommend this place for road kill as a chance of survival, you have been warned! read more

If I could give negative stars I would.. my dogs nails after trimming all of them were bleeding. I've taken my dog to a groomer lots of times and never has it been like this. If they don't have the time to do them right I would rather them not do them at all then hurt my dog. Also got my dog neutered it was the worst experience of my life. The cone that they give me smells like Pee and has bite marks on it. I wouldn't put on my dogs head. These people are not people for animals. I took my cat here to get spayed/neutered. It was extremely inexpensive and they took good care of my Bella. One of the employees there, Heather, kept me updated on Bella throughout the day. A friend of mine had a terrible experience at People for Animals in Hillside, New Jersey. I am so upset for her and relieved that it wasn't worse than it is. She brought her cat into be spayed. That is it. But the vet staff mixed up her cat with another cat that had the same name! THANK GOD the other cat wasn't supposed to be euthanized or have major surgery. Because this place would have done it. Instead of noticing the chart didn't match the cat, they went ahead did unnecessary procedures. They spayed my friend's cat AND clipped her ear and microchipped her. She was just supposed to be spayed. That's it. But they did the procedures written on the other cat's chart because they had the same name! What is wrong with this place? And then they offered my friend a "discount," saying they wouldn't charge her for the ear clipping or microchipping!!! Really?! How insulting! They are trying to look like good guys for not charging for procedures they weren't supposed to do in the first place! My friend refused to pay for anything. Does anyone know how to report this? I had a very positive experience here with my cat Kiki. It was crowded on her spay appt day with people forming a line out the door into the cold air. Inside the reception area is not so large so its important to be civil (some people were arguing in the line). Eventually I got to check her in and picked her up at 4 without any complaints. It can be quite the scene with leashed dogs barking their heads off in the presence of so many cats in carriers so maybe bring earplugs? Staff was friendly while handling the crowded environment. Pickup was orderly and pets were efficiently returned to their human caretakers. Keep that Elizabethan cone on even though your pet hates it! I can not thank this organization enough for what they do. I was so stressed about spaying my 2 year-old Newfoundland, Ella, but People for Animals exceeded my expectations. The facility was clean and organized. The staff was friendly, professional and spent time educating me on how to care for Ella after the surgery. The vet, Dr. Lisa Levin was excellent, she even helped me put Ella safely into the car after the surgery. Ella's spay incision healed perfectly with no complications at all. The $400.00 that I saved going to People for Animals can now be used to take Ella to a pet dermatologist so we can get a better handle on her allergies. the worst experience ever! brought my cat in to have her spayed on Wednesday this week. several hours later i was told there was an "identity mixup"...so they performed unnecessary procedures on my cat because two cats have the same name!!! I brought my 10 month year old male puppy here for neutering. The prices are great and the staff is friendly. But I felt like things were rushed. The placed was very crowded and I arrived at 7:15 and waited on a very long line. I thought the place was too crowded with dogs and cats to be done in a short amount of hours. They were piling the cat crates on top of each other (with the cats inside after the surgery) and I even saw a cat crate that was on the top tipping over! I told a worker but she was busy so she didn't do anything. I I don't think she told anyone else either. Now in hindsight, I should've just gone into the room and picked up the crate and put it somewhere safer myself. My dog had and has TERRIBLE razor burn. The whole area just looks butchered. It does not look like a clean cut, even the tattoo area looks terrible. My dog was in extreme pain two whole days afterward and spot bleeding. After talking to other dog owners, this wasn't normal. I called people for animals back and left a voicemail and they called me right back. They are helpful and very very nice. For the price I paid, they did their job. For my next pet I will pay more money and go to a place where they could spend a little extra time doing everything right and clean. Definitely get the pain medications because the little guys will be hurting. I also brought an antibacterial ointment to help it heal faster which helped a lot. read more

This is my 3rd time visiting pfa in hillside, the first time was to get my Lucy (female shihtzu) fixed, she had her shots, and was given pain meds. Her surgery went through perfectly, I called during the day to see how she was doing and they told me her surgery went fine and she was resting. Picked her up same day, and she was groggy of course, made sure to check her stitches often, and not to do too much activity. Second time I visited was just for vaccinations, as well as today, I advise going early that way you don't have to wait too long. I see people complaining about the wait, tbh if you're looking for low cost why are you complaining. This place is great, for the price for everything it's so worth it. I used the PETCO Neuter Scooter that goes to Robbinsville. Everything was great. The cost ( spay, meds, collar, microchip) was $170. She was picked up at petco at 7:00 am. We received a call at 11:30am that the surgery went well. At 4:30 we picked her up. She seemed to be in little to no pain at all and three days later, the surgery sites looks amazing- no redness, discharge, or anything! It's a great place! I got my 3 kittens fixed here. I got an a appt online, got there at 7:40am (already there was a line) and was back in my car by 8:25am, not too bad. I went back to get them at 4:30pm and I had to make another line in the back. They don't tell you that so watch out you're not waiting forever. I paid for a package with the ecollar but they don't put it on. What a waste of $5. I give it 4 stars, they really need to organize those drop offs and pick ups better. Honestly, I couldn't be happier with the service I received from EVERY single person on staff here. And the prices!! My cat Cookie was a stray or abandoned (not sure) and she had a lump on her belly. I expressed my concern and they took her in immediately for evaluation. The doctor came out to speak with me personally about the situation and reassured me it could be fixed and they would take care of it. The services provided are very good and affordable. I have had two dogs neutered here. I have had no complications from either surgery. Staff seems very caring. You get what you pay for though... this is basically a fast food spay/neuter service. They do the best they can with what they have but they leave the aftercare up to the pet owners. Pain medication is going to be needed especially for spayed animals. Cones are going to be needed to keep the animals from licking their wounds or tearing open their wounds. The few negative reviews I read didn't mention the purchase of either. You're going to have to stand in a long line on drop off-some of it outside the building. There is an option to pay for the whole surgery before you go which will bump you to the front of the line. I don't know why they don't mention that on the website. I waited for almost 2 hours so don't think you're going to drop off your pet and run to work. Be there before 7:15 for dogs if you want to get out of there at a decent time. There could be as many as 30 or more dogs ahead of you to check in. Also know that you're going to have a long wait with your dog with other dogs barking, whining, and not always the best trained owners. I would give it a fifth star if they told you on the website that it could be paid for in advance for a quicker service and because the check in process does seem to take longer than it should. read more

Before today if someone had asked me about a great low cost play to get your animal spayed and neutered, I would have recommended this place all day long. However I was turned off by the customer service I got over the phone. I have used this place twice in the last 14 yrs. I don't keep up with hrs and cost and funding. They have 4 locations and 1 is listed on the state's website as participating in the NJ Low cost spay and neutering program. Since I have used the Hillside location before, I called to see if they too were a part of the program. I was told there is no more funding for anyone in a manner that was not that great and I would have over looked that, but the rest of the conversation was rushed and rude. I was fine with paying the full price but my pup isn't old enough for neutering just yet, but needs shots. So I asked if I could make an appointment and she told me no there are no appointments you have to come in during wellness hours and proceeded to ramble them off. Her tone let me know that I was obviously bothering her and she did not have time for my questions. So me, my questions, my pup, and my cash will go elsewhere. I took my male kitty to get neutered and sadly the vet here forgot to look at the paperwork and the patient as well! The vet cut him open and tried to proceed as the cat was a female?! I can't believe that my poor 6 month old kitty is not only traumatized but also left a huge scar on his belly for no reason. The wait time is terrible for vaccinations, but the fact that they don't charge you for a vet visit and only the shots makes it worth it. The people from 'People For Animals Inc' was very professionals and helpful. I felt very comfortable leaving my dog there. Didn't worry a bit because I could feel they were really doing they best and everything would be just fine. I got there at 7am and waited in line outside the building until they opened. After they opened the doors the process was very fast. I met with the 'nurse' and she explained everything and she took my dog to a room then I left. I got back to pick him up at 4:30pm and there was no parking spaces available, lots of people but the process to pick him up was fast and easy as well. Just get there early (around 4pm) and you won't have a problem. They do a group presentation explaining how to take care of your dog/cat and then they answer questions. Very helpful. You even get a paper home with all the info. They offer pain medication for $20 but I didn't get it because I knew my dog wouldn't need it but most of the people got it. They handled my dog to me already with the e-colar (that I purchased at check-in) and he was just fine. He was very sleepy because of the anesthesia but he eat well after 8pm. He was very mellow and asking for extra attention for the next whole week but he wasn't feeling any pain. I can say that he was 100% back to normal within a week. I kept the e-colar only when I left the home and for sleeping because he was very tempted to lick the area. I gave him a bath after 10 days. My little puppy is feeling great and strong!!! I'm very pleased with 'People For Animals Inc' services. I'm very glad they exist and offer this service for such a low cost. You DON'T need to pay $500 for neuter/spay to prove you love your dog. The only advice I can give you is if you have had you pet here for any shots or vaccinations check the expiration dates The gave my pet "30 day shots" that I discovered while attempting to board him 1 hour before I had to catch a flight . I had a great experience with People For Animals. I had scheduled an appointment with the mobile spay station for my 6 month old puppy. I showed up at exactly 7:15am and dropped her off with the friendly staff who you could tell care very much for the animals. I got a call around 12pm telling me discharge would be earlier than the 3pm scheduled time and that I could come pick her up right away - that was that. She is already back to her usual self and happy as can be less than 24 hours past the surgery. I know there are a few negative reviews about PFA that made me a bit skeptic but I personally could not of had a better experience and would recommend to anyone. The only advise have for PFA is to park the mobile spay station in a less sketchy place, the lot they are in looks like it's where you would go to buy drugs. read more

I brought my 6 month old puppy here to get neutered today (recommended from adoption place Burlington County Animal Alliance) I called the day before to confirm everything I needed to know about prep like not feeding after 4am, no water after 6am... but to be safe I didn't give my pup water or food after midnight the night before. When I arrived there were 6 other owners with their dogs, I was number 7. They open the doors at exactly 7:15am. We waited outside for about 10 minutes... but when we got in everything was smooth sailing. The receptionist I spoke to the day before said 'bring your patience because it gets busy' so I was expecting to be waiting for a few hours so I brought books to read... but they called my pup rather quickly and it was convenient I was #7! So they took my dogs weight and then brought him back... the tech confirmed he didn't have any allergies, food after 4am, etc. when I picked up my pup it is 3:30pm I guess they were a little behind because I didn't get my pup and instructions until about 4pm but I didn't mind. I don't mind waiting. Overall it was a good experience! $157 (40-65lb dog)for Nueter, pain meds, cone & microchip! Thank you PFA! So far my dog is relaxing and sleeping since we got home which is normal! :) read more

Great low spay/neuter clinic. I took my 9 Month old yorkie to get neutered and the process ran quick and smooth. Try to get there a little earlier because it does get busy and pay in advance and your wait time will be less. My dog was groggy the 1st day and the next day he was back to his normal self. The incision healed up great and he was not in any pain. They also send pain meds home with you and explain everything in detail at the time of pick up. I highly recommend this place. read more

The only post ice thing about this place is how nice people are... However... I will NEVER EVER forgive them for LOSING my dog for a couple of hours!!! With no since of urgency! I took my puppy for her shoots here in April (which everything was fine/ honky dory) and came back May for spay and follow-up shoots! As I drop my puppy off, everyone was soo nice. The place was empty, quite, which was good for me. I come back for pick around 4:30ish... The first thing the receptionist does is give me pain meds for my dog, then told me to sit and wait in the waiting room... A mother/son was there waiting as well... Waited for like 15mins for a tech to bring out my dog... The tech comes out without animals and explain instructions about post-home care to us... Then get these the cat of the mother/son family first, they leave. Now after the mother/son family left, the tech come out and tells me that there shuttle service "accidentally" takes my dog! I was shocked! "How did this happen?!" I ask. Their reply, "I'm not sure... This never happened before... The driver said they will be back in 15mins." I tried my best to remain calm... But I was PISSED!!! How the f*** do you not know how this happened. So they purposely waiting for the place to be empty to tell me they don't have my dog!!! After 15mins, no dog and no response from anyone... I get up to ask the receptionist if anyone contacted the driver after over 30+ mins of waiting... Couldn't contact the driver... I ask then asked the receptionist if she had any animals. She says a dog. Then I asked, "What if this happened to you?" She says she'd cry... "Now you know how I feel." I said. I get upset and then wait in my car... After about hour and a half of waiting the they finally get my dog back! The driver hands over my dog with a big happy smile and says she sorry... I turn to her and say, "Are you now? Cuz with a smile like that, you coulda fooled me..." I'm sorry.... I'm too pissed for that shit... Then I asked her how did you mistaken my dog for your shuttle run?! Did you NOT read her collar? Apparently not because you took her!? I, then, take my dog and leave. I know this is a long review and I appreciate whoever reads this. I just want to let everyone know that whoever decides to take their dog/cat here, this COULD happen to you. Not only was this time consuming, you have no idea of the well-being of your pet, and the irresponsibility of the staff not knowing how this happened to you pet is absurd. Everything went well and then the person who was put in charge of sending my puppy home with a cone, royally screwed up. I kept an eye on my dog since the moment he came out from his procedure, but as a dog has his needs and discomforts just like us humans, he was tempted to bother his area. The purpose of the cone is to prevent them from being able to reach the area that just underwent a procedure, if I am correct. No? Whoever gave my dog a cone far too small for his body size/weight is the reason I dropped $1,000 to get him a surgery to repair the tissue damage and tear that was just done to his area hours later. Strongly recommend that you observe the cone application and the nurses who are in charge of taking care of that. Good luck. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE JUST TO SAVE A BUCK! About a week and a half ago I took my male cat Finn to get neutered. We dropped him off, everything seemed fine, everyone was friendly. Later when we picked him up, we got pretty detailed written instructions on what to expect and what to do. I was pretty happy about all this. When we got home, Finn seemed in great shape as compared to what the instructions said to expect, so I thought I hit the jackpot. WRONG. About 5 days later I noticed that Finn had a small ball like inflammation near his incision site. I called PFA (people for animals) and was told to bring Finn in. Upon doing so, we were promptly seen and the doctor assured me it was nothing and that Finn was just constipated. She told me she could give him antibiotics, but since its "highly unlikely" that he has an infection, she didn't recommend it. Seeing as she's the professional here, I of course trusted her. I was relieved and went home with the instruction to just "keep an eye on it." A few days later I noticed the lump was bigger and starting to look red. Then yesterday it was more red, so I decided that we needed to take him in again the next day as something clearly wasn't right. He also stopped eating, drinking, going to the bathroom and was walking very slowly. I had to go to a work event and my boyfriend was doing work out of the house all day as well. I left my event early to check on Finn and came home to find the lump was leaking a blood/pus mixture through the pores around the lump, which was now clearly an abscess!!! In a panic I called PFA, and nobody answered!!! The emergency line tells you to call someone else! I find another vet close to me (Oradel Animal hospital in Paramus). My boyfriend and I race there, have to wait until midnight to get seen, and Finn has a 105 temp and needs to be admitted overnight and given meds, antibiotics, and fluids/food through IV!!!! I was in such a state of panic and grief and terror and feeling like such a terrible parent. The amount in medical bills we incurred bc of PFA's brush off of what turned out to be a pretty serious infection. This was last night and Finn has to stay another night in the hospital and is seeing a surgeon tomorrow. Spend the money and keep yourself sane. That is my advice. These people are clearly looking at these animals as something other than people's family members. There is another review on here similar to mine and posed only 10 days prior to Finns initial surgery date, so something is wrong in the recent past and currently. i can understand some of the one stars here, i would be terrified too if something went wrong with my pet, but it's clearly written on the waiver that you sign that this a training facility, not a full service vet hospital. There is the chance a studying vet could perform the procedure. if you're not okay with this, then don't go. Your family vet, spay/neuter is in neighborhood of easily $300-500. Here, $75. You can't go into McDonalds looking for real prime ride sandwiches, not gonna happen. The place is basically a small brick shack made into a small vet operating place. not the greatest place in the world, but not a meat shop either. It's basically a run of the mill, assembly line inexpensive animal neutering place. The day we went, easily 15 dogs and 30+ cats were there. Figuring that they finish everyone, that's probably about on average about 6 pets an hour they have to work on. Again, part training facility, . Finally, infections happen, anywhere. You can go to the best hospitals, but once you open up a body, infections will happen. In a fancy $800 facility, probably happens a lot less than at a $75 facility. If you choose this place, you're choosing it for the price, not for the great facility or great service. ** updated : 4/22/2017 - the price for the neutering comes from them being a 501 charity, and through donations and grants, and such, they can keep the prices where they are. Print and sign all of it before your actual surgery date. BE PREPARED. It'll make your time at the hospital (and your pet's time) a breeze. It is an teaching hospital so if you are a little apprehensive about a student vet working on your animal simply write on the Consent of Surgery form. Go as soon as the place opens. People were waiting outside and a line was already forming when I arrived one minute before the doors actually opened. The parking lot is small too so getting there early is key. The place isn't fancy but the people inside are super nice. Every person I spoke to was very caring with my kittens and after surgery they answered all of my questions and didn't make me feel rushed. I think that if I would have gone in during their rush hour, they wouldn't have been able to be so accommodating simply because of the amount of people they need to attend to. Don't expect a lush waiting room and caffe latte... It's in Hillside, a typical industrial type town. It's clean and organized and that's what's important. Their prices are amazing. They are so incredibly affordable. I almost seems like robbery or maybe the other vets should consider lowering their prices a bit... My kitten did suffer from an allergic reaction to either the vaccines or the anesthesia. He didn't show signs until around 8pm so I had to take him to the emergency hospital because Hillside closed at 6pm. Some additional suggestions: Obviously they have to shave the area for the operation. Speak to your vet prior to surgery and ask for a topical ointment for razor burn. It will help your little buddy out during his/her recovery. Read the post-op paper work and follow the directions they give you. It's for the benefit of your pet no matter how much you want everything to be back to normal. Make sure to change the blanket or linen you have in their carrier after surgery. Most of the time cats urinate on the blanket. It's uncomfortable for them and smelly for you. Bring a change so it makes their recovery comfortable. read more
