Wow! What a gem of a bookstore. We feel so blessed we ran into it while exploring Takoma Park. It has a super cute kids book nook, an excellent selection of books for all ages, and they were doing outreach programs for people to donate for teachers while we were there. Friends and I originally went for an incardi print, but ended up staying a while to browse and each of us ended buying additional items. I ended up getting 2 books, one of which an employee helped me find as it was something on my to-read list. Great vibes. Would love to return if I'm back in the area. read more

When people talk about local businesses being important to the community, places like People's Book is what they mean. This is a jewel of a local establishment with a great selection of all kinds of books, but especially children's, which fits perfectly with the very youth-heavy population of Takoma. If they don't have a book you're looking for they are happy to order it for you too. In addition to books the store has a collection of fun gifts, zines, crafts, book-related clothing and more. They also have some snacks and drip coffee for sale. There are a few places to sit around the store and reading is encouraged. In addition to all the items for sale People's Book hosts a whole range of Book Club meet ups every month for all ages and interests. I spent so much time in here browsing that I forgot that I was in a store and not a library. I honestly got lost in my own world while trying to find something to pique my interest. I have been recently getting myself back into reading, especially while commuting to and from work. I have been trying to rediscover authors that I was once into big time. Seeing if they had anything new out that would definitely make commuting worth the while. I went up and down the aisles jumping from fiction, to local history, to even the children's section (niece's birthday was coming up). I kept picking up books and reading the jackets/back covers to see if this would be a good fit. Some of them I had to put back because I swear I had/have them, but not sure where they went during the move. When I was getting ready to leave I stopped once more near the doors to see what they had to offer in the card stock. I think I will be back when birthdays start to come back around. read more

With over 12,000 books, author events, and Vigilante drink coffee, it's a spacious yet cozy bookstore with friendly staff. Browse the books and notice by the titles that this bookstore is a safe place for all. They have novels, travel, health and wellness, all types of books. They have a great kids section to help them build empathy and there's a Zine corner. If you're into books, pop in. A lovely welcoming new bookstore in downtown Takoma park! We hopped into this store after following intriguing signs on the street. Once we spotted the store, friendly staff greeted us and briefly explained the arrangement. Seeing the various books, I could tell this bookstore has carefully selected and neatly organized wonderful books. I browsed novels, non-fiction, children's books, as well as many zines, which you won't see at big bookstores. The shop was filled with book lovers of various ages on Sunday. I'm pretty sure you can discover new fascinating books, so I highly recommend stopping by if you are in this area! read more

What an incredibly cool bookstore! I had been wanting to go since they opened last year and I'm so glad I finally found time! The space is HUGE and located right in downtown takoma! The children's section is beautiful and robust. They have one of the coolest zine collections of all DC bookstores! And the staff was so knowledgeable and kind! they're a progressive, left leaning shop and you can see their values of inclusivity in their selection! Highly highly recommend. read more

People's book is a brand new bookstore in Takoma Park. It's only been open about a week and somehow I've already been in to buy things 3 different times. It's just that good! The collection they have is well curated with a great mix of fiction and nonfiction selections. And if they don't have something specific you are looking for they will happily order it for you. They helped me track down a very specific cookbook for a present and were able to get it in my hands in just a few days- and over a holiday weekend!!! I've had the delight of speaking with both of the owners and they seem lovely. Even though it's a new store, they have big plans. There is a nice frequent reader membership program, planned book groups and more. This place is a reader's oasis! Also because I am the first to post and people may want to know, it has a decent sized children's section and they also offer some cold drinks and snacks. They do not offer coffee, but there are plenty of nearby options at Takoma Bevco, Starbucks and my favorite (admittedly a bit farther away) Lost Sock. There are tables in front where you can sit as well as a few comfy chairs inside. The store is across from a park with playground, which would make it a good stop for families with children. Great selection of books & space. Also lots of fun gifts too. If you like browsing in person instead of online, I am CERTAIN that their selection of books will interest you in something you may have not known about. It's hard to pick just one section of interest. The layout is thoughtful & open. I loved the kid section along with the little toys & fun things to look at. I love this bookstore. It had as a very nice indie bookstore feel to it. Very good customer service. I found some books that I purchased. I did fell that the selection was small though. I know space is limited, so they keep what they can sell. The parking isn't the best. I would recommend this place to any advent readers. read more
