I would rate zero stars but not an option.Went today to pick up a couple 12 packs , beer was not reachable , no employees around so I went in the cooler and retrieved what I wanted . I was approached afterwards and told I was not allowed in cooler.. fine. Then this POS made it known that I did go in the cooler to the several employees sitting around up front what I did. I tried finding a store near my hotel that sold wine and nothing came up in my search yet this liquor store that also sells wine was just 2 miles away from my hotel They also have lots of snacks gift baskets and mixers. This place is a joke! I'm 35 and went in with my girlfriend who is also 35. I brought my 6 pack of Trulys up to the counter and presented my ID. The gentleman working asked then for my friends ID which wasn't on her. He told me he wouldn't serve me because she didn't have an ID. Dude was miserable. Just went in to buy a nip for a cookie recipe. Thought it would be easier then going to a bigger store. Amber who was running 2 registers, pointing telling people were to go, huffing and puffing saying she's working hard today. So I make my purchase 4.99 total. Hand her a 5.00 bill. Rings it out shuts the drawer an walks away. No receipt no thank you. An yes I wanted my penny back. How many time does she do that a day to people.Busy store not really. She made it sound busy. One thing about me is that I am a customer service nut. Folks can serve up some pretty god-awful goods(ie. food, clothing, cosmetics, camel rides) to me and as long as I feel that they are giving me the best service possible they possibly can, I can work through it. Come up with a fix. I am patient with those who are willing to treat me respectfully and sincerely. I'm not talking falling- over- themselves to please me. Just good old customer service focused stuff. This info is crucial to put my recent experience at Liquor Warehouse in context. This place is MY liquor store, where I go to talk to MY wine guy and to get MY husband's crazy craft beers. We are regulars. Mutiple stops can happen here on a weekly basis depending on the family chaos and social gatherings - the former and latter conditions both warranting increased adult beverage needs. I am a corporate gal but on the weekends I favor my slouchy boots, jeans and a flipped around up-do pony. I may not look like I know customer service. But I do. Yes. I do. I was in my weekend uniform shopping for some interesting craft beers for my husband who drew the short straw and was at home watching the kiddos while I made the packie run. Great selection of craft brews, by the way. Two full aisles and you can mix a six...random craft beer bottles into a six pack. I find this shopping relaxing. I enjoy the names these breweries come up with and will sometimes buy something just based on that..."Arrogant Bastard" How can I resist? One of the other fabulous feature that I enjoy about this store is the "bargain bin" that they have parked at the entrance to the customer checkout corall. It's a shopping cart with random bottles that are going out of season, discontinued or just crap. It's a hit or miss and things aren't always price marked but I have found some great stuff. Long story short after three lolling eye rolls from the cashier after I asked for a price check on my bargain bounty items AND after I asked for a box to help me carry all my stuff, I was ready to freak my freak. I paid for my items, went out the exit and immediately back into the entrance of the store. Found the manager and calmly aired my serious concerns. So first look at the name....it is a liquor store or as we Rhode Islanders would like to say a Package Store. I'm in it for the beer. They have lots of "other" stuff from hard alcohol and tons of wines. Not me...BEER!! Warehouse?? Well, not so much. There is an ok select of beer but the stock is usually pretty low. Need to train the guy that orders on, well, how to order. The prices are again ok. I am sure they tell you they beat others, but they are about the same...it all comes from the same supplier, so the prices can't change that much from store to store. Peoples? Here again, not too much. There are maybe two people that work there that are great. Helpful, ask you if you need help, willing to talk to you about the items. But that is not always the case with all the staff...shame. Selection...well they do have lots of craft beers and lots to try, but like I said before, unless you want BUD, they are limited in the overall amount of beer in stock. What keeps me coming back it the most obvious reason...location, location, location. It takes a lot of time to drive through Warwick especially if I want to go to that other package store...starts with an H sounds like "axton"...duh! So I come here. They do have a little multi-use card, when you buy so many you get a few cents off....not really worth keeping track of that silly card. Also, get cashiers that know how to like the order guy, run a cashier. Quit yapping, and take care of the customers. There are usually long lines, some to do with the location thing and other to the sloooooow cashiers. Ring them up and get them out...period. So if you live nearby, stop in. If you live near another package store, don't waste your time driving over to this one. read more

I went with my dad to accompany him and our cashier was very rude and not friendly at all. On the receipt it says user was "JTB" and I think his name was Jim, when my dad said something about him not being pleasant he replied with sass. I like this place a lot. I've been there a few times now and have had enjoyable experiences every time. The staff is friendly & welcoming. They always say hello when they pass you and ask if you need help finding anything. There are lines. I haven't found them too long like some of the reviewers and I have always been greeted by a friendly cashier at the front. Remember that they have to check ID's for anyone under 40 so this with the fact that most item are breakable and need to be handled delicately add to the wait time. Let me say that Peoples is not a liquor store for the people. It feels very corporate, even though Rhode Island liquor stores are generally independent, family-owned businesses. They seem to have a lot of wine. I like wine, but I'm no connoisseur, so sometimes I find it difficult to pick out a selection. The staff are not overly helpful so I feel like you're pretty much on your own unless you make a point of tracking someone down to help you. Another person below posted about how they leave their craft beer out at room temperature. This is true, and it probably does sit on the shelves longer than the brewer intended, but not all craft beer has to be refrigerated. Their selection of craft beers is not amazing, but you can get some of the more well-known brands like Southern Tier and BBC. Okay. Let's get to the real issue here: the lines. It is ridiculous that there are about 4 registers at the front and even when they are staffed, the line takes forever! They have two shelves stocked with gadgets and crap you don't need, I guess to entice you to buy it while you are waiting in line. It reminds me of being at Old Navy when they have their $1 flip-flops sale. It is frustrating and inefficient and makes me want to shop somewhere else. Also, their prices are kind of high considering they seem to market themselves as a discount "liquor warehouse." Unfortunately, this is the closest store to my house, so I probably come here more than I would like. read more

I had a bad experience at this place and now boycott it. I was stocking up on wine, beer, and liquor for my house and decided to come here with a friend on a Saturday afternoon. After about 30 minutes of shopping I had about 300 dollars worth of alcohol in my shopping cart and got to the register to checkout. I was asked to show my ID which I did and my friend was also asked for his ID but he didn't have his wallet on him. My friend and I are both over 30 but I understood that it was store policy and didn't put up a fight. I drove my friend back to his house to get his wallet even though all the alcohol was for me. We returned to the store and completed the transaction. I was in a rush to get out of the store because we had to leave and come back to show an additional ID so I didn't even look at the receipt until the following day. When I did look at the receipt, I noticed right away that it showed 3-30 packs of beers but I had only purchased 1 so I called the store and asked to speak to a Manager and I explained the situation. I was instructed to come back into the store so I got in my car and drove back. The manager seemed very hesitant to believe me as I explained what happened. I noticed the same cashier from the precious day was working and I pointed her out to the manager and he called her over. I then told her that she accidentally overcharged me and her response to this was "I distinctly remember you had three 30 packs". How does this cashier "distinctly" remember something that never happened? I started to get pissed off and asked them to count the cases of beer or watch the surveillance video but the manager said "we don't do that". I said that I was going to call the police because at that point I didn't care about the extra 60+ dollars I was charged but now it was the principle because basically they were calling me a liar. After a semi-heated argument with Manager he pulls the receipt out of my hand, walks to the register and hands me money but he was not polite about it at all. After this experience I will never shop here again. read more

Terrible prices ($9 wine advertised as a deal for $12), selection, quality, & even worse customer service

What can I say, this is where I go to get my wine, Liquor, beer, and lottery tickets. The prices here beat the prices of all of their local competitors and their selection of alcohol is vast. Wine varies from Italian Borolo's and Spanish Tempranillo's to the ever-so-popular box wine (I enjoy all varieties by the way). Beer varies from cheap/but good (Pabst Blue Ribbon, Naty Light), popular (Bud, Sam Adams), local (Narragansett, Newport Storm), not-so-local (Peroni), and several craft micro-brews. Plenty of great vodkas, all of which I enjoy. An excellent selection of scotch and whiskey to include Up Rising American Whiskey (drinks like a scotch) and Cabin Fever Maple Flavored Whiskey (If you are a whiskey fan and enjoy flap-jacks covered in maple syrup, this whiskey is highly recommended). Peoples has a resident wine expert. I'm not sure if he's a certified sommelier but he definitely knows his stuff and is willing to spend time to discuss wines with customers and will help you find the wine you're searching for. People's also offers wine tastings; a very nice touch. One other great trait about Peoples is that they will contact distributors to track down alcohol that they do not carry and will order it in and notify you when it arrives...and they won't charge you any extra for their efforts. I'm a loyal customer. I have read all other reviews and can see where others are coming from wrt their own experiences. All I can say is, if you're really into wine or really into good/great scotch and/or whiskey, then you'll find quality items here at People's and you'll find staff to assist you and discuss your needs if you ask (per my own esperiences). Yes, there are wine specialty stores in the area but they only service your wine needs and not everything else. I've been to several other neighboring liquor stores and in most cases, I feel like I'm in the corner liquor store back in Oakland, CA...essentially, I feel like I'm surrounded by people who don't know the value of their own stock and couldn't assist you if you had a serious question about high-quality alcohol. That's just me. I can drink PBR with the rest of the tail gate crew but I also truly enjoy a quality aged scotch and full-bodied cab-franc and People's can provide that for me. read more

I've gone there for a few years but I won't anymore. They have a good selection, prices can't compete with Haxtons. The reason why I won't go there is the poor customer service. They treat the customer like a jerk who is interrupting their talking time or busy work so they don't actually have to wait on them even when there is a line. Was just there and the guy behind the counter was complaining to a co worker about something not having scannable barcodes on it. I could tell he was annoyed that he had to stop and do his job to ring up a customer. Zero customer enthusiasm or appreciation. As soon as I walked away he went back to complaining. Customers don't want to heat that. Try to be professional it goes a long way with customers. You just lost another. read more

They have a decent selection of craft beer and they allow mix-a-six which is always a plus. My problem is they keep 95% of the craft beer on the shelves at room temperature. This is a big no-no as craft beer, unlike mass-produced light beer, is not pasteurized. In order to preserve freshness and flavor, it must be stored cold. Tonight my husband and I attended a Thanksgiving wine pairing seminar hosted by Thomas, the Wine Manager. It was fantastic! Going in we felt we were pretty knowledgeable about wine, however, we definitely learned a thing or two! In fact, we tried a Riesling that he suggested would pair well with pork and so we purchased one of the ones we tasted. It was superb!! We will be back so please keep them coming!
