Breakfast is okay. I got the Nick #1 - 2 eggs, homefries and toast ($5.25). The egg's were alright and the homefries weren't great. They didn't have too much flavor like paprika, pepper, etc and some pieces were barely sauteed/too mushy, some had the right amount of crunch. I also got 2 peanut butter chip pancakes ($2.50 each). I was disappointed how small they were, but they were light and the bites with the peanut butter chips were very satisfying. Old school diner vibes, but maybe too old school. Nice spot for my 64 year old dad. Food is a 3, but the service is a 5+. The main waitress was incredibly friendly and Nick was cooking my breakfast while asking me how I wanted things along the way. read more

I grew up in the diner capital of New Jersey, so I've had my fair share of omelettes. Some massive, some too small, some too cooked, or not cooked enough, both over filled and and over seasoned, and definitely some under. This one I had from Nick and Joan's was perfect, exactly what I was hoping for this morning. Not massive, but not too small (I did get the full size), and very well filled. It's an excellent size for a pre-work breakfast, one where you're content, but won't feel too stuffed and get nothing done for the next hour or two. Broccoli inside was a great firmness, onions nicely cooked, and the cheese was melted wonderfully throughout. I could have gone with a bit more tomato, but that's just personal preference. Home fries probably won't be every ones favorite style depending what you're used to, but I think they had a nice texture. They are seasoned lightly, so they can work whether you like adding ketchup or eating plain. Not heavily fried and oily like some diners, nor were they a coated crisp like a T's / Friendly's. They are a potato home fry, not a fry home fry, very reminiscent of ones I would typically get back in Jersey, but a tad less fried / charred. The mains were great, but the toast stood out, and I was too excited to take a picture. Nice browning, but still soft and verrrry well buttered. Perfect diner toast. I've lived in this area for seven years now, and I'm super upset this is the first time I've gone. Even just walking in the door is a great experience, everyone is very friendly, Nick takes time off the griddle to walk around and say hi to people, whether they are dining in or getting it to go. Great family atmosphere, both from the workers and the patrons, plus it helps that some of both are actually family it seems. Very rare to see a restaurant so upbeat and wholesome these days, and I'm very happy this is in walking distance. Can't wait to go back! read more

The best service ever! I came here for the first time with a kid I was watching, and as soon as we walked in they were friendly and attentive. Not long after our drinks being delivered, the kid starting shaking and covering her ears-she was overstimulated by the noise. We stepped outside and I asked for the food to go because I didn't want her to be uncomfortable. They immediately said no problem. While we were waiting outside for the food to be done, the owners, Nick and Joan, came to check on us. They then brought out a table and chairs for us so my kiddo could eat outside away from the noise. Such wonderful service that they did not have to do by any means.... Plus the food is delicious! My husband Bob and I drove by the Gateway Shopping Plaza at 1633 Warwick Avenue and noticed the Nick and Joan's All Day Breakfast sign. We stopped to pick up a friend and the three of us decided to give it a try. It was full of customers and we had to wait for a table, fortunately for us a very sweet young couple gave up their table and moved to a smaller one so that we could sit down. Everyone, the owner, the wait staff and the customers were so friendly to us. It was wonderful. I'm vegan and for the first time, I was able to order a vegan breakfast along with toast and vegan margarine. I got the Michaela: A mix of grilled potatoes and vegetables along with coffee. The Michaela overfilled my plate and it was very tasty. My husband and friend got the usual non vegan breakfast fare of ham and eggs, homefries and toast, a cheese omelet with homefries and toast. We all thought the food we received was delicious. We were quite satisfied and happily full. I can't recommend this lovely little restaurant enough, it's easy to get to and has plenty of parking. Well, what a first visit!! Greeted at the door by Nick was genuinely happy we were there. Nearly full at 9 was a great sign. The signs say 38 years, and he and his staff is why they have made it. The staff is so happy to help you. The omelet was perfect. The raisin French Toast was just great. Bacon was very good. They have a great menu for a small place. There in a plaza on a busy corner. I drive past this place most days on my way to work and finally decided to try it and I'm glad I did. The waitstaff and chef were beyond friendly and welcoming. I felt like I was having a meal at someone's home based on the hospitality! They have your standard breakfast options along with some unique twists. I decided to go with the wiener omelette which for all of us Rhode Islander's, it is exactly what you are thinking (chopped up seiners, sauce, onions, celery salt, and mustard inside). It was even served with toasted wiener rolls which was a nice touch. It was great and if you are daring I would recommend trying it. 1st time there. Menu is larger than the grill! Be prepared to wait at least a half an hour for your food if they are busy. They cook one order at a time, as that is all their grill can handle, and the don't send out the entire table of food at once. Food was OK but nothing special. I personally won't go back. read more

I passed by this place so many times driving throughout Warwick and always told myself "I should go there one day!" Well, "that day" was today. My fiancee and I had no power when we woke up, so we decided to go here at 6am. We were greeted by Nick himself and we got seated. It's really hard to explain in words, but we felt so "at home". Whether it's the pictures throughout the years taped on the wall, the "old school" Pepsi menu hanging on the front, or the simplistic "old fashioned" diner....it just felt so calming. Nick was so quick to get us our coffees, take our orders, make it, and come back with it. We initially thought the serving size was kind of small, but in reality...it just hit the spot! I got the Nicks #2 and my fiancee got the Michaela. It was really good and it was really affordable too....about $20 for both of us with coffees! The biggest draw of this place? Nick and Joan, the cook-owners, thank you. The first time, I asked for a customized 2-egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms. They added in scallions, without asking, though. I wish they would ask first. The server forgot my creamer -- after asking if I wanted half and half or regular cream. No biggie but I felt sort of overlooked that day. Thankfully, I have been back more than 3x since then and find eating here to be a comfort in terms of the local neighborhood feel (you don't have to live here to get that feeling)-- but check out the pictures of fans on the wall, as well as the transformation of Joe (owner/head cook) over the years-- endearing. If you want to know what Rhode Island is about, you visit places like this. It is also a comfort in terms of friendly service, and reliable, no-nonsense, homestyle food. In town on business, meeting a colleague for breakfast, and could not have found a better place! The quaint diner, located in a little strip mall, is unassuming. You get the feeling this is where the locals go to get good grub. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with smiles. It was like I was being invited into someone's home. Joan took care of my colleague and I. She was nothing short of fantastic. The coffee is hot and perfect, and my cup never had a chance to get empty, she was always there offering a refill. My omelette was delish!!! I had one with cheese and tons of veggies. It was the perfect size, not too greasy, and came with delicious home fries and a grilled english muffin. This is probably my favorite breakfast place since moving to RI. It's a small family owned and operated business. They are exceptionally welcoming and make a delicious meal at a great price. I think that this place is my new favorite breakfast place since Johnny B's Diner closed in Cranston years ago. Nick and Joan's have a huge list of options for breakfast, great prices, and an old school diner decor that brings you back. While those things alone would be good, it is the staff that really makes the place. They are fun, fast, and friendly. The wall above the booths is lined with dozens and dozens of photos of patrons too, which shows that they care. You can see that things here are made with love . The giant ham on the grill waiting to be carved as needed makes me smile. You might miss this place while driving by, as it is tucked into a strip mall near Hoxsie Four Corners. Do yourself a favor and give them a visit. My wife and I are willing to drive from Scituate, RI to eat here and understanding the Rhode Island mentality about driving more than 15 minutes sometimes requiring an overnight stay, this speaks volumes. read more
