Dr. Daniel Bronstein, BEACON Clinic of Chiropractic, provides free Chiropractic services. There are nurses/doctors that provide mental health services as well. During freezing conditions the center is open 24/7 for those in need to have warm shelter from the elements and food service. You can donate canned foods, cooked foods, clothing, shoes, toiletries. You can donate personal time to volunteer in cleaning or garden work. Prado Day Center is an excellent spot for those in need. It's a safe haven. Let's be a hero for someone. How many have you ever heard get housing? I stayed 14 days in the Prada center after being told I'd get an advocate if I did so. Didn't happen. I have jumped through all the hoops and still no further than the day I walked in. Now I know why people don't even bother. It's clear they are there for the paycheck. I felt more like an inmate than someone trying to get housing. I'm done, and will tell people everywhere I go of my journey here. Thanks for nothing!

Even though I give food to lots of local food drives, I would not have made the trip over to the Food Bank myself without a little extra impetus! The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo has just changed its name to the San Luis Obispo County Food Bank. They are located on Kendall Road, across from the airport, and will take direct donations. We had a bunch of dry soups near their expiration date, and packaged them all up in a box and took them over. They were happy to give us a short tour, and we were surprised to see that they are in a big warehouse space. Our "guide" told us that they feed 30,000 individuals in SLO per month. I also read an article in the New Times that stated that they are looking for a new director. Our donation weighed in at 27 pounds. We got a receipt, and felt good for taking the drive over to the Food Bank.

Their rates and delivery are reasonable. This is very much a "mom and pop" operation: they have a white board with folks renting different equipment. They have an honor system for holding equipment, I called the week before I needed equipment and they didn't even require a credit card from me to hold the rental. They rent all sorts of equipment and looks like they also have U-Haul rental as well. Great customer service, would recommend if you need tools for your next project! I noticed lots of folks renting that are "seasoned professionals" but also some newbs that hardly have a clue like me. I am so grateful the staff talked me through how to properly use the equipment. Thanks to Grover tool, my husband and I were able to save 65% of what we were quoted to do a project. Everyone we have interacted with: Esther, Ken, John, Romero, etc etc have been super knowledgeable and kind. Highly recommend this family business!

So, first night, we had to stay in a hotel in order to park our trailer somewhere. Spent most of Friday evening and Saturday morning calling places. Talked to Kathy at the front desk and she was able to find the last available spot that would work for our size trailer! And right here in SLO! We really thought we were going to have to drive an hour to store it. Anyway, Kathy was amazing-explained the contract throughly, I understood how my billing would be handled, showed me how to use my code to open the gate, and even shared where the bathroom was! What storage unit has a bathroom?! We even got interrupted by a customer moving their stuff out (moving away) and as they left, they mentioned to Kathy how well they've been treated and if they come back, they will definitely come back to Mission. That sealed the deal for me. We are so appreciative that we came across Kathy and Mission! Highly recommend! 5 stars all the way!
