I have never ever been treated so WELL in my life by an auto shop. I usually do my own work when I can but today I had a huge problem. I had purchased a car from a dealership and it had locking anti theft lug nuts with no lug nut key for me to take them off with. I was able to find a removal tool at a local auto parts store but did not have the appropriate tools to use it so I was still out of luck. I figured what the heck I will see if Pep Boys can help me out. As luck would have it I arrived ten minutes after closing so I thought my night was ruined. As I pulled up to the closed entrance the gentlemen inside the store came out to see how they could help me. I did not have to beg them to help and they acted as though it was still operating hours. This is something that no other shop will do. For most when the shop it closed then it is quitting time...not Jesse and Rob. They opened up the bay door and had me pull up so they could jump into action. These two were a dynamic duo that worked diligently to get my problem solved. They not only solved my lug nut issue they went above and beyond by making sure all my lug nuts were tightened to spec (some were loose and some were angry gorilla tight). They worked without grumbling, had a positive attitude and chatted cordially with my father and I. After 45 minutes of sweaty labor I asked them how much the charge would be to which they answered $12...the price of 4 new lug nuts. I could not believe it. We tried to tip them $40 bucks for helping us when we felt no help was to be had. Jesse and Rob politely told us that they appreciated the gesture but they would not accept the money. They were there only to help those that needed it and trust me...we needed it. People like this are a rarity in the service industry, especially in the automotive industry were it seems that most shops are run by knuckle dragging neanderthals that are only looking to punch a clock and fill their own pocket. These two are gems that Pep Boys is lucky to have on staff. As a person that manages my own staff and understands how difficult is to find people that are dedicated to their jobs I can say with full certainty that Jesse and Rob are the kind of people that I would hire in an instant. As a district manager and a store manager for over 17 years I take my customer service interactions personally. I expect other franchises their managers and associates at these places to provide the service I have been trained and expect to give to customers so customers stay loyal and want to return. With the car repair business it is hard to trust anyone because in my interactions many of these repair shops are looking for the quick buck and are dishonest. I have to say, I am just blown away with my experiences with this shop. Every time I go into this location the store manager Charles takes the time to answer all my questions, they get you in quick, and don't try to sell you on stuff you don't need. Ray and Skyler are awesome! Ray does a great job on your car! Skyler is so patient with taking the time to answer any question you might have. While I am by no means even close to a mechanic I have tried to teach myself about how to maintain my car on my own. By teaching myself this I have a very good understanding of my cars condition when I take it into a shop. So I always find it funny when I take it into a shop and they do a full body inspection and come back with numerous items to repair which are not true. Well knowing my car was well kept up I use this to gauge their honesty and it was great to see with my most recent visit that when Ray did my full body inspection he signed off that everything was in good standing as it should be and that the only thing they recommended was factory recommendations based on your mileage because my car is over 140,000. I came to do business with this place for service on my work vehicle. After visiting a different shop, my boss insisted I get a second opinion because he didn't believe all four tires needed to be replaced on my work vehicle. I think finding great customer service is pretty hard these days, but this place went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. These guys ROCK! A++++ I can tell you they are honest because everything they said I needed to have done, I had just heard from the first place I'd went to except they were going to charge me less. (BTW-I did not tell them this was a 2nd opinion until after they gave me their estimate) They even gave me a ride to my house so I didn't have to wait around for a few hours, then they even stayed late to get it all done so I could have it for work the next day. I see there have been some negative reviews on here which surprised me and that the work took longer than they thought. While speaking to the manager, it seems that a couple of employees recently left, so could be they got rid of the bad ones? I worked with a polite, knowlegeable employee named Brandon, who I can't say enough about. When I showed my fleet card for payment that isn't very common, he's the only one out of many shops that I've tried using it, that didn't make me feel like it was a pain. What he said was, "Don't worry, we're gonna take care of you. I've got my fleet manager here and we're gonna figure it out." And they delivered 110% I would highly recommend them to everyone I know. read more

I went in to have the tires balanced and rotated on my daughter's truck. The tires on her truck were purchased at a different Pep Boys and this work is covered under that purchase. When I test drove the truck I felt a slight vibration in the front passenger side tire. I have been wrenching on cars since I was around 12 years old, so I know my way around a vehicle. I did not tell them this, I just asked them to perform a balance and rotation. The service techs were friendly and knowledgeable. During the balance they discovered that the belts had broken in the front passenger tire and showed me the defect. They then pulled up the warranty and filed for a replacement tire. They took the time to explain everything and made suggestions that fit the situation. When replacing tires I have always done so in pairs. So if one tire is found to be bad I will replace two so they are matching. This is exactly what they recommended. They checked the brakes, rotors, shocks, struts, and bearings informing me that they were all good and did not need to be replaced. This I already knew. As I was signing the paperwork and getting ready to leave they told me that the truck looked to be well taken care of. This is when I informed them that I was the one who maintained it and thanked them for being honest. They did not try to sell me any extras, nor did they make any high pressure sale attempts. Today was my second time coming to pep boys and it's been awesome. Chris is upfront and honest with you. This shop makes you feel like you're visiting you're family mechanic. I knew my brakes have been acting up and I assumed it would need to replace my pads which would cost me a fortune but during my oil change Chris gave me the managers special which consist of a oil change, tire rotation, brake check and a few other things. The point is he could of have been dishonest with me to make some extra commission money but he gave me a honest evaluation and recommend I have them machined down. I didn't have it done then because I didn't have the time but I will definitely come back as soon as I can and will always come there for all my car care needs. I went out to my car this morning and it wouldn't start. I knew it was the battery but I didn't have any cables to jump start it and my battery didn't have any place to hook up the cables. I had gone to Pep Boys for my tire service and decided to give them a call to see how much they charged for a new battery. After explaining to Carlos, the manager, my situation, he very generously offered to send one of his employees to my house to jump start my car so I could drive to their business and buy a new battery. Dakota arrived at my house, started my car and waited to make sure that I could get to Pep Boys with no problem. I registered online and set an appointment. Nice! Had a simply oil change done. They did the tire rotation, because it's free when you join their "club", where you get even more things (so, be sure to do that). They found a problem with bad tire wear that had to do with an alignment problem. So when done, I immediately went to the place where I get my alignments. Ended up getting two new tires FREEEEEE!!!!!!! Thanks to Pep boys for great responsibility to me, the customer. I have already recommended Pep Boys, their "Club" and my store to a co-worker. I recently decided to start changing my oil myself, keep in mind I am a 19 year old female student. I had no idea what oil I needed or where to even start. Jesse got me all set up with the items I needed and explained in detail what to do and expect. That was more than helpful but he didn't stop there. I had fantastic service at the Lakeside Pep Boys. I'm 56 and don't know anything about cars. My mom is 80. Her tail lights went out and she couldn't drive legally. On Thanksgiving. We went to the Lakeside, CA pepboys [Store # 1441--I asked] and explained our problem to Chris Gray. He was great. Listened and went over repair options. I was traveling through Lakeside CA when I started to have problems with my car. The Manager Carlos was very nice and professional, the Tech looked over my car and quickly diagnosed the problem and what it would take to fix it. The price was reasonable, they got it back to me in a fair amount of time so I could get back on the road. In fact, if it wasn't for them, the human organs that I was transporting would have expired. My first time at Pep Boys garage and they did an excellent job. I had my 100K maintenance on my Chevy Silverado and a repair on my heater actuator completed. The store manager assisted me with the check-in process and was very courteous and helpful. Everything worked out well and at a very reasonable price.
