Never Ever will recommend Pep Boys for any services on my Chevy Camaro. Last year in August my ac was only blowing hot air suddenly so I made a stupid mistake by going there and they told me it was my compressor so I trusted and let them change it out but still was blowing hot air. Tire pressure light came on. Pep Boys was near and not busy...I thought. Waited inside with one worker working more slowly than anyone I've ever seen. Two cars in bays. Four guys in the shop and I can't get the air checked. Omg! Finally, after another customer pulled directly into the check tire pressure line and got helped before me, after I'd waited 20 minutes, I was asked what I needed. I was told to have a seat and it would be five minutes. I told him I'd wait outside. Another 20 minutes goes by and the guy ahead of me looking for windshield wipers still isn't done. I left. I was told that leaving reviews were pointless, but I know internet is powerful and so is the word of mouth. I dropped off the car Dec.31,2024. We diagnosed it at Honda beforehand and showed the parts that needed to be fixed/replaced at Pep Boys, White lane, Bakersfield. They accepted and we paid $975.72. The next day the car is ready. After a 3-5 minutes on the road, the check engine light appeared. The "check engine light" did not light up when dropping it off the car shop. Immediately we sent it back to the shop. The staff(David) tested it and suddenly the engine won't even start right and we have to push the car inside their car shop. At Jan 6,2025 is when we got the result of the car after constantly calling every day asking when the car would be ready. So many excuses. The problem of the car, told by the staff(Henry,) said there is a dark black gunk and kept simultaneously suggesting an oil change. Prior to dropping off that car there at Dec 31.2024, I was at Honda from having an oil change. Literally went straight to Pep Boys after the oil change at Barbara Honda. The staff communicates like I've been here, like I know what they are talking about. The staff kept explaining in circles but what I wanted was a solution! They kept saying they just replaced the parts and never touched anything else. If it was only replaced, why is the car not running anymore? The staff (Henry) mentioned that the VCT/motor broke, and YES IT HAPPENED INSIDE THEIR CAR SHOP WHEN THE MECHANICS WERE "REPLACING" THE PARTS. He(Henry) said he understand the frustration but could not give me a solution to fix the problem. The best they can think of is to take it to another shop that fixes the car's current problem. The staff mentioned it was near but did not even offered to pay for the towing. THEY REFUSE TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY! The whole conversation felt like, "Oh Sorry your car died and we can't fix it. Yes it broke inside our car shop when we were working on it but we are not going to take any responsibilities for it. You are on your own. Take your dead car somewhere else." My biggest gripe about this is WHEN I CAME TO THE CAR SHOP, THE CAR WAS RUNNING. After almost a week later, THE CAR IS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. The car can not be moved, only neutral. I have to call someone to tow my car out of their parking spot outside. We got back our car today Jan 7, 2025. We decided to just tow it back to our house until we can save up again. And to top it all off, there was some gasoline leaks on our driveway from the car. The staff could not even properly close/tighten it. WE LOST $975 FROM A CAR THAT IS RUNNING TO A DEFECTED CAR THAT JUST SITS ON OUR DRIVEWAY! We were not offered any compensation. No refunds. Staff does not care. They just wanted our car out of their way! The excuse was, "we did not diagnosed it, we just only replaced the parts." Ok yeah but the car is not running and it happened within your vicinity! Friendly service from ladies, they do basic maintenance, brakes and minor repairs, they are ok for those type of services.

Came in a while back and spoke with the Service manager David (A). He was fantastic. Helped me figure out the problem with the car quickly and had his tech (Henry) fix it without issues. I got there at a time that it wasn't too busy so I was in and out quickly. Turned out I had a very small nail in the tire that we couldn't see at first. David let me know what was going on as soon as the tech had the car lifted and they found the leak via a water test. Fixed and left. I recently came back, for some additional work on my brakes (they are making some noise) and asked for David. I was told they let him go, after he had supposedly complained/reported about issues with the company. I was in shock that the company treated its employees the way it does. They told me that they rarely get a lunch for most days of the week, no brakes, on multiple days of the week the people have to work open to close with no help. They didn't want to go into details, which I respect, out of fear of further retaliation from the company, but I cannot support a business that treats its employees like this. These guys deserve better and a company that will force these kinds of conditions and fire people who speak out about the issues, should be called out. After they looked at my car, they gave me a very high cost for the repairs. $290 per rotor, $68 for the front pads, $64 for the rear pads, and a high labor cost. The cost coming out to over $1400. I asked where they get their parts, so I could compare costs, but before they answered, a delivery driver from Autozone showed up to drop off some brake pads for a different car. I checked on their website and found that I could simply buy the pads for $36 and rotors for $55 each. A simple Youtube video later and I saved well over a thousand dollars. Why should I pay double the price (at best) for Autozone parts? Take your money somewhere else. The combination of over priced parts plus the treatment of their employees is just bad business. read more

Wow all I can say is they are my angels. I believe the Mgr name is Charlene. They were about to close and I came in with a flat. My husband asked if they could just put air so we could get the tire fixed elsewhere since they were closing. I asked the guy who was putting the air and he said it was up to her and she said YES! Came in today to have my parents car brakes checked. My dad had come maybe a week ago & they said nothing was wrong with them. After driving their car, I felt a little concerned since I'll be heading up to the Bay Area and I just don't want to get into a car. They checked the car again, all complimentary. Everything was fine & they explained that bigger cars have softer brakes so it might feel like you're having to press hard to stop the car. Wow! Walked in to the office to get an oil change. The office was a disaster. Boxes and garbage strewn everywhere. Only one car was in the bays getting anything done. Three bays available. I asked for an oil change. Synthetic blend. They quoted me $94! So I asked if they'd match big o which had a two hour wait. They said no. I asked if they'd come close to matching. They said no. What a life savior! On 3/20/18, my family and I were passing through Bakersfield when our car broke down. When you are at an unfamiliar place out of nowhere and this happens to you, all you pray for is to find any decent honest auto shop who would fix your car quick. Our first attempt was very unsuccessful (and added much stress to our not so great of a day)...at Meineke, which is on the same compound as Pep Boys. Going to Meineke was a HUGE mistake. The manager was rude. We were lucky that Pep Boys was in the same compound. As I walked in to Pep Boys, I was greeted with a friendly face, which is crucial when the start of your vacation is going down the drain because of car trouble. At first I was told they could fix our car the next day due to shortage of staff. However, when I explained our dilemma, the staff went to talk to their Manager, Carlos, and he agreed to squeeze us in for the day. From the front office staff..mechanic staff and to their store manager, we were all greeted with a friendly face. I couldn't be thankful enough. They even helped us push our car from Meineke to the Pep Boys shop as our tow truck had already left. They were able to fix our car by the end of the day. Stay away. Most customers that come here bring their service vehicles and have no choice. You will wait a long time without anyone giving you updates. A common issue I hear in almost all cars coming in for an ac check is the shrader valve. So check that before bringing your car in if it's having issues with ac. Just to be sure. They fixed my ac after changing the shrader valve which did not fix the issue, but added to the cost. I waited all day and came in the next day because it wrecked something else in my car. Went through the same rigamarole and waited a long time for it to be fixed. Wasted my whole Saturday, which I had a lot of plans that got cancelled. I received no apologies or anything. Will not come here again or recommend them to anyone. read more

DONT GO HERE! I dropped off my truck on Sunday to do routine brake service. When they told me it wasn't ready on Monday, I shrugged it off and extended my car rental. It is now WEDNESDAY and they keep saying "tomorrow, tomorrow". After this whole ordeal is done, I'm going to end up paying more for my rental than the terrible service at Pepboys. I dropped my car off at 9 am, my technician was Isais and I had to be somewhere at 1 o'clock and was told my car would be done at 12:30 the absolute latest and I arrived on time and was still not ready and as im writing this it has been an hour waiting here. All I needed was to change out my tires which takes 30-45 mins to do so at most if on task but he has been going away from my car to his own car to grab trash and eat and just stand nowhere near my car. Although they try to but it is still a a very costly franchise and I do not know if they try to make money out of our ignorance or they do not know what they are doing . My car had starting trouble and I toed it to there place and battery was dead so they replace it still did nothing. They told me to took it to super mechanic shop as their super mechanic is out and then they told me they will do a diagnostic test for $90 and most likely it is the fuel pump which will cost $500 plus to fix . I made some call moved my call to magic auto who without a diagnostic figured it out that it had electric wire malfunction and fixed my car for total 140.00. Really you spent more that half a day and the end result is that you do not know . No guess work please . The first couple times I went there, I thought I was getting great service. Then I broke down and had my car towed. I was told it would be over $500 to repair a part and hose. I called a mechanic friend in Sacramento and he told me to bring my car home amd he would drive down to fix it. He got the part for $100 came down and it WASN'T the problem. And instead of calling me to let me know my appointment would not be able to take place, they allow me to drive all the way to the shop to give me the luxury of telling me in person. Ive worked with Beatrice a handful of times...mostly to do uber inspections (which by the way is the quickest and cheapest in town) and shes always made it so easy. They don't try to sell u something u dont need in fact they will reffer you someplace else if u can save more money and they wont charge u for a quick diagnosis. I had the best experience anyone could ask for. The service manager was out for the day, but with my good fortune Jack from the Roseville store was taking over for the day. His expertise and excellent customer service made me beyond happy. The quality of work was great and the process were superb! I can't speak highly enough of how I was treated and how well my BMW was taken care of. The showroom is gorgeous and the staff, very polite. They four Cooper tires I purchased had a buy three get one free instant rebate that was pocket pleasing. They ride super smooth and have wonderful performance. The free alignment check helped top determine that my settings were slightly off, so I opted to have them perform that work as well. Since I was close to my oil change maintenance interval, Jack offered a full synthetic Castrol Oil change sty much less than the dealer, so of course I couldn't pass that up either. I went in to fix a flat, but the nail didn't go all the way through, so they didn't charge. Can't really comment on service. I waited quite a while and they only had 2 mechanics on staff on a Sunday. They get 3 stars for that, but because it's a Sunday (when no one is usually open) and they have an awesome waiting room, I give them a 3.5, average to 4 star (hesitently). read more

STAY AWAY major rip off... deserves 0 stars I went in for a flat repair @7:30 and left it there for repair. They called me at 11:15 and said we were able to squeeze in my car. Then the guy tried to get me with 3 new tires and an alignment saying the tire had 2 nails and could not be repaired and the 2 front tires showed too much wear and the alignment was "Maybe" off. He said if you buy 3 tires you get one free.... what a bargain right?! The Guy just sounded unsure and flaky. I went and picked up my vehicle and went elsewhere A simple flat tire that costs maybe $10-15 to repair could've turned into a $618 job according to the Pep Boys guy. MAJOR CROOKS! Update I went to Gutierrez Tire on Stine Road. Amazing customer service. They fixed my tire right away which really only had 1 nail in it and rotated my tires all for under $40.
