This review is for the service. Ben and Gabriel were very nice and efficient. We had a nail in the tire driving back from LA, called ahead of time and they took us in 30 mins before closing. They were able to change the tire and get us out by closing time. Answered all questions and concerns we had! Of minor note, they didn't have insulated tires, and given there wasn't time to replace other tires --tread difference about 4- we only replaced one tire. It was as good as it could get on a Sunday night, when we have another 250 miles to get home with 2 young kids in the car. read more

Pep Boys online appointment scheduling is not yet integrated with in-store or call-in appointment scheduling. In-store and call-in takes priority! Was delays 3 hrs until they had time for radiator evaluation. Another 1.5 hrs was wasted when they ordered the wrong coolant reservoir until they said they couldn't do the job. I wouldn't trust Pep Boys at all. They said my coolant reservoir was cracked and my thermostat housing needed to be replaced. All of those things mentioned were fine. The coolant leak came from the lower radiator hose! They got everything wrong when they did the radiator diagnostic! All that happened was they damaged my radiator leveling measurement stick! These guys aren't certified technicians. I should have left when the guy didn't know how to start my car and looked clueless with the car fob in one hand when he attempted to pre-inspection my car getting the mileage. read more

My pickup broke down in Bakersfield, driving from San Diego to Merced. AAA towed me to Pep Boys on F street. The alternator had gone out, they charged $570 for the part plus $240 labor, with no warranty. Barts Parts said the alternator would be $312 with a one yr warranty, difference $258. Daniel Gutierrez the assistant store manager said it was normal pricing. I am a senior living on social security and a small pension, this $258 is my groceries for two weeks. Follow up to my last report After taking my car to Onsite Lube they checked my AC system and it had no leaks in the coils like pepboys said. All it needed was a Freeon charge and all it cost was $220 and it was blowing cold air. Had to find a Pep Boys for a fleet oil change. Figured early and an appointment I'd be fine. Took over 5 mins for me to find anyone to help me after walking in. 20 mins after checking in for them to even touch my car when there are 3 employees here and no other customers. They literally sat around talking while I'm waiting for my vehicle and they ate their breakfast. They even kept eating their breakfast while "working" on my vehicle. Ridiculous when you have a customer waiting. Ben is rude and needs to work on his manners if he's greeting guests and not doing any work also. When asked why it's taking so long for a quick oil change he told me my appointment wasn't until 9 so 45 mins isn't that long. I was here 20 mins before my appointment with nobody else here. They didn't have the right filter in store. Then after making me wait this long they got the wrong oil filter. I'll find a different store next time I need it. I urge others to not come here, no wonder why it always takes so long for a quick damn oil change. Nearly 2 hours with literally nobody else in the store for an oil change is absolutely absurd!! If I could give 0 stars I would. I took my van to get diagnosed. Not only did the technician clear my codes without being asked to or performing the repair needed. He had no story or download with the codes that were in my engine. I did get a refund but now. I need to drive my van up the mountain again to bring the codes back because the codes aren't coming back. This all risks my transmission getting more damage as well. Do not go to this PepBoys. We brought my sons car here after his tire blew out on the freeway. It was initially towed to another shop where he was quoted over $3000 to fix and get back on the road. Granted when the tire blew it had caused some damage to the front bumper but they were insisting that he fix things that were working fine such as headlights. After a couple days of them refusing to quote anything else we had the car towed to Pep Boys. They fixed the tire and made sure the car was safe for him to get back on the road for just over $600. The gentleman we spoke to at the store and on the phone, Erick S. Was extremely helpful and reassuring that we would get the car back quickly. They were in constant communication with us and had the car ready before noon the day after we dropped it off. My son says the car feels so smooth now. I will definitely bring more business here. I went in for coolant. Went back in for some break fluid. Got home and couldn't find my credit card. I called the store and Trent offered to check outside where I had been parked to see if it was on the ground. He didn't find it. The next day I find it in the bottom of my kitchen trash. Took my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 to the F street location to have my air conditioning leak addressed. First of all store hours are supposed to be 7AM to 5 PM. Service manager finally showed up at 7:26AM. No apology, no explanation. Called my wife for a ride home, at 8:10, still no technicians. Finally got a call at 11:30 AM, telling me that my AC compressor was bad and my high pressure line was leaking from the Schrader valve. Total cost would be $950.00. I am a certified ASE mechanic and had recently replaced AC compressor myself, but couldn't find the leak, probably because I had the gauges connected to both lines. Schrader valve costs about $.25. told them to stop and that I would be there soon. No charge, surprise, surprise. Still no apology for trying to rip me off or for the very unprofessional attitude. Buyer beware at this location, they are selling a lie and calling it auto repair. read more

This is the absolute worst pep boys I have ever gone to. The service manager "Ben" is incredibly unprofessional. I came in to have my car serviced. The first man to help me did everything he could to discourage me from being there. He said he needs my license my insurance and my registration in an really gruff way. Which is no big deal but seemed strange. Never been asked for anything other than my license. So, I went and got the reg and tried to continue. Then "Ben" came in. Looks at me says something to the other guy in spanish and looks at me and says. "Come back in a few hours.". I think WTF?!. Feels like they didn't want to help me because of my race. Not the first time I have had a bad experience with "Ben" it's my 3rd. I live close by. I will never go back and I would discourage anyone else from going there. Rude unprofessional and clearly lazy. I've come here a few times and this place is a mess with no communication. Called on Wednesday and they had a long wait so I made an appointment for Saturday at 12. Got here maybe 15 minutes early. I had an easy fix - wipers weren't working. They didn't even look at it until 1. What is the point of an appointment then? I was never told anything about what the wait time would be like. Waited 2 hours to be told they can't fix it because their computer "doesn't communicate very well with Fords." Yep, you read that correctly. Their computer doesn't communicate well with one of the biggest car brands in the world. Complete and utter waste of my fucking time. read more

I made an appointment for 9:00 am, for oil change, check engine light and steering fluid leak and purchase new battery. Left vehicle and keys with them. Left to run a few errands came back at 11:30. Car had not been moved the excuse was that the mechanic didn't come in until 10. Left again received a text that the car would not be ready until 6 pm. Engine light was a sensor I knew that already. Went back and got keys to car and left. They need to honor those who take the time to make an appointment first. They have no place to sit and wait otherwise I would have done that. I have a 1969 Chevy Chevelle that wasn't starting. I called Pep Boys last weekend and made an appointment for Sunday morning. Had it towed by AAA to this Pep Boys Service Department. Immediately, the manager (Steve) didn't want to service the vehicle because he said their policy was to not service older vehicles like mine. I told him I was never informed by his employee that they did not service older vehicles. Steve and his employee, Antonio, agreed to service it, but they only got it to start. They didn't bother to repair the brakes, change the oil, lube, etc. as requested. What a waste of my time and money. I will never take a vehicle to this Pep Boys location again. read more

Now, I understand covid is causing longer wait times, but that's not what this review is about. I took my car in on Tuesday right at 8:00 when they open. I leave my car all day with them to do an oil change, new air filter, and fix/diagnose a loud rattling noise. 3:00 rolls around, and I haven't heard from them. So I call and I'm told someone will contact me before 5:00. 5:10 rolls around so I decide to call them myself. They proceed to tell me that the oil change and new air filter are taken care of, but I need a new tensioner belt and they needed to get the part for it and they could do it Thursday. By 5:10 it's too late for me to get my car because with covid going on, I wasn't able to get a Uber there in time. I show up the next morning before they open so I'm in and out -- or that's what I expected at least. I spent 20 minutes waiting while they located my missing car keys that they misplaced. Once they were found, the keys were handed to me with an explanation of, "They fell out of the bag." No apology. So now it's Thursday morning. I get there at 8:00 for the third day in a row expecting to hopefully be in and out as I was told an estimate of an hour and a half for the work that still needed to be done. When I give them my keys, I ask again for a time estimate. "Well, it should take an hour and a half, but I don't have anyone here to do it for another hour." By 9:40, an hour and 40 minutes later, my car is still not being worked on even though I had been told at 9:15 that the car in front of me was almost done and I was next. Needless to say, I contacted someone else who quoted me half the cost and was told it would be done today. Won't be coming back to Pep Boys anytime soon. read more

Went to get my car checked out since the serpentine belt was squeaking. Was told that my water pump was bad and was making my car squeal like a pig. I was told the price to replace it was 700. I went to Big O to get a second opinion and found that whoever put my belt on just did it wrong and that my water pump was perfectly fine. One of two things must've happened either Pep Boys doesn't know what they're doing or they just want to charge an insane amount for parts you don't need. Standard Pep Boys with tons of parking. We came up here while on the way to Lake Isabella because we needed to get a new battery for our trailer. If you trade in the battery you get $12 off and the battery really wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. For a battery, the warranty, a bottle of coolant and a bottle of oil it was just a little over $100. I thought that was pretty good. Employees here were nice and offered help when they could. I noticed that they switched sides on the store quite frequently and they never left a certain area unattended which is good since people do have questions and you don't have to hunt someone down. Only complaint was the bathroom. They have two unisex bathrooms in the back area. You have to walk through the battery testing area to get to them. Both of them were occupied and I had to pee really really bad. Luckily one opened up fast, but that person failed to flush the toilet! Totally disgusting. Unless she had only been in there to put on makeup or fix her hair, I don't know. I had to flush for whoever it was. The bathroom looked nice, but come on, flush the damn toilet!!! Now the other bathroom, I noticed that whoever was in there was still in there. I had asked the people that were in the back if someone was in there or if it was just locked. They said someone had been in there for a long, long time. Well, it took a while for our battery to be tested and they finally told us that it wasn't holding a charge so it was time for a replacement. Finally, the person that was in the bathroom had finally come out. It was a homeless man and I have no idea what he had been doing in there, but cleaning himself wasn't on that agenda as he looked dirty still. Now I know why a lot of establishments require that customers can only use the bathrooms. This is an example as to why. I'm still sort of grossed out. However, like I said before, the employees were helpful, they were nice, they know what they're doing (or at least appear to know what they're doing). read more

Of course I have forgotten the names of the men who assisted me, but they worked until 7 pm on Saturday, July 19th 2014 on my (and other's) cars efficiently and kindly. My Air Intake sensor broke down in Avenal (middle of nowhere) and AAA towed me to this place "on a hunch." Turns out it was a good one, they had the part, had it installed in 30 minutes. I would give the place 5 stars but the price for the part was incredibly high and I haven't researched yet to see if it was a fair market value. had an oil change and tire rotate here. and will NEVER go back to this pep boy on f st... Bakersfield... they stripped out my oil pan bolt.. and try to hide the problem they did. they just put Teflon tape around the bolt to stop the leak they made... and when I called them after i seen the leak coming from my car I called them and they would not help me... so i took it to my regular car repair shop... for them to fix the leak ... and that is where they showed me the Teflon around the stripped out bolt of oil pan... so after all this i had to get a new oil pan put on and a new oil change.. now out 300 dollars for the mess that pep boy/ f st Bakersfield. did to my car... will never return and will let everyone i know what they did.. and how they did nothing to help....
