I live in San Diego and was trying to get home after visiting family in Phoenix. it was nearly 100 degrees and it appeared that my rental was overheating. Everything was closed, so I got a room at a hotel in El Centro. Enterprise couldn't switch out my car until 4pm and I had no place to wait several hours. They suggested getting it looked at and gave me the address for Pep Boys. The man who spoke with me was Esteban. He took my car in right away, and I headed to the waiting area. In less than 3 minutes he came in and said my car was fine. He showed me the temperature gauge and I had been misreading it. He didn't make me feel ridiculous, especially when I called the temperature symbol a "little ship". It does look like a sailboat. Since there was no issue he said he wouldn't charge me. This place is a rip off! At first they where all nice then once I told them that it's was going through my insurance the manager was so rude. He called and said we can't fix its it need to go to the dealer cause it's an electrical problem. Friendly but ineffective. They replaced my brake pads same day but were never able to eliminate the brake error from my cars computer. I paid for the front and rear sensors, they told me they would call me when sensors arrived and never called back I had to be calling and asking every week. Finally when sensors arrived they installed them but error was still showing. Brake pads error and brake light stays on. Brakes noisy as well. No bueno. read more

NO. That mechanic is off on Friday. @#$% WHY have me bring it on if they won't get to it till next week? Very poor customer service, guy at the counter was taking personal calls and didn't explain the downfall of this business. NEVER EVER AGAIN will I go to a pepboys location. I brought my vehicle in on a tow truck with a battery issue. Pep Boys said they charged and tested both batteries and that they were fine. I was sent on my way. My batteries were dead again two days later and I had to get yet another tow. I inspected the battery terminals and they had not even been cleaned. Both batteries in my diesel truck were confirmed to be completely shot at another auto shop. Upon expressing my disatisfaction with Pep Boys level of service on this "repair", an employee named Aldo Ibarra told me I could call the 1-800 number. He did not even offer an apology. Pep Boys is one of the larger auto stores that you can go to for pretty much anything related to autos. The store is large and organized well. They have a huge counter with wonderful employees that are very helpful. We were here looking for a mirror for a golf cart and Pep Boys had a great assortment. We found exactly what we were looking for-in fact had to pick between 2 that were perfect-when the other auto stores didn't even have one! I asked-despite not expecting it- to see if they made keys. They DO! I didn't have to make the extra stop at the hardware store. Yay! They have this high tech machine where they check for the exact key blank to fit your key. They had probably 50 different kinds of key blanks. And they had the one I needed-a small key for a mailbox that wasn't standard. She double-checked the size and the machine made the key in a flash. It fit perfectly when we tried it. I definitely recommend Pep Boys. They are a great store with wonderful employees. read more

Made an appointment for 10:30am for what should've been a 30 min service (oil change). I waited 45 mins and my car hadn't been assigned a technician and have an estimated time of 4:15pm pick up. I go to the front desk asking if it will take this long and they said no. I asked for a time frame and they couldn't give me one. I explained I had work at 1:30pm and needed to know when my car would be ready. All they kept saying was that there were cars ahead of me so I had to wait. Why make appointments if you can't see cars in a timely manner/at the time of scheduled service? I tried to wait, but my car still wasn't assigned a technician so I asked for my keys and cancelled the appointment. They handed me my keys without saying a word, even though I was polite the entire time. They also were only going to charge me $42.99 for the service and I have NEVER paid that little for an oil change so was worried they'd botch the job. This is one of the only places in the valley to service my MINI but I won't be back. Rather go to SD or Yuma where I know they'll get the job done correctly. read more

I originally made my appointment via their online appointment service at 2 pm for an oil change. They called me the day of and told me that I would have to bring my car in early at 10 am. I wasn't able to make that appointment because I had to call the day off work to go and 10 am was way too early. I rescheduled my appointment and I showed up at 12 pm, and my appointment was at 11 am. Mind you I showed up on a Tuesday morning, there's their parking lot was completely empty, and there was no one waiting to be serviced. I walked in and The two men in the lobby ignored me, and kept on talking to each other. When they finally acknowledged me I told them that I had an appointment. They then argued with me and said I didn't have an appointment. I had to show him the confirmation code to confirm it. He then said that I showed up an hour late so they are unable to see me. First of all, if your store can not honor your online appointment system then you should make it clear, not everyone can plan their whole week ahead of your stores schedule, you should contact corporate and tell them that you will turn everyone who made their appointment after 12 pm away. Why is that even an option online to make the appointment if you can't honor it? Second, the customer service here is absolutely terrible, I consider myself a pretty easy going and respectful person but the men here did not seem like they wanted to work. Their excuse to turn me away on a Tuesday morning was because they were "completely booked". When there was no body in the parking lot, what so ever. The quote I got from them for my synthetic oil change was 90 something. I ended up calling lube express across the street, the took me in right of way and my car was ready within an hour. (continuation of a review from Pep Boys Cathedral City California) In October 2014 I purchased a new set of tires from Pep Boys El Centro California they were Falkens, these tires were supposed to have a 30000 mile treadwear warranty I barely got fourteen thousand miles out of these tires even though I maintain them at the correct tire pressure and brought them in every 5000 miles for a rotation they were rotated twice before I replace the tires and with tires purchased from Americas Tire! Back to this purchase just like the Pep Boys in Cathedral City they always insisted upon inspecting my entire vehicle every time I brought the tires and for a rotation and they could never balance and rotate the tires correctly there was always a shimmy in my steering wheel this was also the case at the Pep Boys in Cathedral City once I went to Americas Tire or the two times I purchase tires outside of this organization once through Amazon and once through Sam's Club the vibration disappear, Pep Boys technicians do not know how to balance tires. I'm sure there are others that have this problem what Pep Boys, I would never buy another set of tires from Pep Boys again their coupons are also worthless their oil and filters are so overpriced even with their coupons you can still buy those same items at Walmart for much less! read more

I strongly recommend NOT to bring your car here. Maybe I had the one bad experience, but I will never go back. Customer service is great, no complaints there. But their maintenance quality is UNACCEPTABLE! If it were not for me being a mechanic the average person may not have noticed it until it was too late. I had two break parts replaced on each rear tire. The next day I looked at them in the daylight. A large leak was there that was barely noticeable on the ground. I had to get under my truck and look at the inner wheel well. The fluid was splattered all around the wheel well from the leak going onto the tire while it was moving. After one day my break fluid resevour was only half full!! Break fluid is extremely corrosive and not it is all over my metal undercarrage!!! Luckily it did not get onto my paint. They need to either fix their quality checks or charge an appropriate rate, about $5 an hour for this type of maintenance. read more

Well lately the service department has been hit and miss and I have had to take the car back multiple times for the same problem that was not fixed or completed right the first time. Usually I can rely on Pepboy's and the mechanic staff to properly get the job done correctly I really don't know what to say other than I hope it gets addressed. So if you need to take your car in be sure to double check it and ask for the assistant manger Thomas, I have dealt with him personally many times and have received great customer service every time he has also corrected any problems that I might have had with previous work. Unfortunately there was a miscommunication where I had a diagnostic service done on a vehicle that are broken down on the side of the highway and was charge for this diagnostic. With the sales managers assistance and his staff be more than courteous they not only did not charge me for the miscommunication, were quick to speed me on my way so that he didn't have to take another 2 Hour going home. I don't understand why anybody would not go to the professionals like Pep Boys but I personally recommend you going to see how they handle, Marcos, and all the other staff that work here you will get more than outstanding service. read more

Pep Boys is a typical dishonest shop that just sees dollar signs when a woman walks in. I brought my vehicle in to have my brakes checked because they had just started making a grinding noise that Friday morning whenever I applied them. I was told that I needed all new pads, all new rotors, and a new caliper bolt. I was leery since I just had new front pads and new front rotors replaced less than a year ago. Since I could not leave my truck there overnight, I told them to put everything back together. When I got back to San Diego the following Monday, I returned to the automotive shop that replaced my front pads and rotors less than a year ago because they would still be under warranty. I was told AND SHOWN that ALL of the pads and ALL of the rotors were just fine. The only thing wrong was the sheared caliper bolt which was NOT a specialty item from the dealership like Pep Boys had stated. Moral of the story is that they found one little thing wrong and decided to throw in all sorts of other unnecessary stuff in order to try and stick me with a higher bill. I am so glad that I did not have any work done there, and I will never go to another Pep Boys again. read more

Online, I made an appt at the El Centro Pep Boys for a simple oil change. The next morning at 10am, I arrived for the appointment and was told the car would not be ready until 1pm because they were busy and because...lunch. Then, why bother to make an appt online? Since the store was being remodeled, there was no waiting room available. So, walked half a mile to a coffee shop and then later walked to a restaurant for lunch. I didn't get a call from the shop until after 1pm. It was the usual, "Oh, you need new air and cabin filters" call. With filters, the bill was $175.00. What??? And the car wasn't ready until 2pm. I walked back to the shop in 99-degree heat. When I finally got inside my car to drive home, I discovered the radio was on a station I never listen to, and the A/C was cranked up as high as it would go. I guess while I was trudging back to Pep Boys through the intense heat to retrieve my vehicle, Manny, Moe, and Jack were in my car on a joy..., er... test drive. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Back in Oct. I took my GMC truck for and oil change and I also told them the truck was overheating. Part of the oil change plan I had was an tire rotation and fluid check and topped off included. 1# Oil change went well. 2# They ran a test and told me I had a radiator leak. they wanted for me to buy a new radiator and installation with them (about $500) . I asked them to document about the leak since the radiator was fairly new (2 months). they balked and back pedaled and said they did not do this. They came back 20 min. later and told me that the fluid level was low and they had topped it off and it was working to specs. 3#, I asked if they had rotated my tires. they told me that the front ones were worn (BS) and they could not (would not) do a tire rotation. then they trid to sell me a set of tire, come on guys!!!!!! Stop the BS and just stick to the game plan. I could not tel if they even topped off the regular fluids that I had paid for in the oil change program. Had a BAD experience with this store today. Had a blowout on my trailer and needed a replacement. I went to the store to see if they they had it in stock and yes they did. They also advised me that they would not be able to install up because of torque ratios. I asked if I could borrow a Jack to change my tire itself and they refused! My clutch gave out when I was about 90 miles from home (San Diego) And Pep Boys was the closest mechanic to where I was so I had my car brought to it. Eric was super nice and helpful and understood how stressed I was about the whole situation. He took the time to make sure I would be able to get to a hotel as it was late, they were short staffed and didn't have my clutch in stock so they couldn't fix it that night. He was nice enough to call around to other places to see if they had one so that this morning they could get me taken care of and back on the road. I bought warranty for alignment and first they told me when I took it for the warranty my truck could not move the 4x4 was on.(which no one knew it was that) the guy( there mechanic) said it was the alarm which has nothing to do with breaks by the way. I went over and my truck was not Moving much after I commented maybe the suspension was causing it since I had take it to to get some suspension worked on problem is the person who worked on didn't do anything to the suspension he cut cardboard underneath by the tire. My suspension was never worked on I am a female and didn't know better just like there mechanic who had no idea a alarm would not make my truck move do to a alarm... get my point here I have the proof from the other shop( who didn't touch my suspension), they took advantage since I had no idea and they voided it.
