On my visit here (Brake Job) the employees were extremely courteous and were able to get to work on my car immediately. When they advised me both front tires needed replacing (and they did) they worked with me on the cost by providing several price options and didn't just force the most expensive ones on me. The best part was the LYFT service they provided free-of-charge so I didn't have to wait there (I'm sure my home's proximity to their shop was a factor, 2 miles); they drove me home and back again when my car was ready...THIS WAS AWESOME! While everyone dreads bringing their car to the shop for repairs, this was a much better experience than anticipated! Went to this place, spent over $400 on the new breaks, waited hours there. They told me a part doesn't fit. Nothing is dangerous so I can just come back another day. They'll give me a call when the part is available. Then on the next day a pipe fell off while I was driving on the high way. Not gonna go back to this place ever again. read more

I brought my car here after a negative experience from the Toyota dealership I had previously had my car serviced by for years... long story short the dealership changed management and after a very stressful attempt to even schedule an appointment for routine maintenance, I was told while waiting during the servicing that my 06' Corolla with 75,000 miles needed a new fan belt, AC compressor and alternator... even though the car was working fine prior to bringing it in for service. I was skeptical about the 'problems' my car had and decided to get it towed for a second option. Pep boys did a great job not only showing me the things that Toyota had told me needed servicing were completely fine and in great working condition, they charged me more than half what Toyota would or charged me for regular maintenance too. Scam alert! I came in with a screw in my tire wanting it plug/patched up. I called ahead of time asking if they perform tire fixes and they said yes. The dude (who seemed like a nice dude) saw the screw and I quote "I can't fix that. It's sticking out too much, you're gonna need a new tire". So my B.S. meter kicks in. Wtf kind of reason is that? Can't be fixed cause it sticks out too much? (I am going to try to attach a picture of the screw. )He just wanted to upsell a whole new tire. Just left this location, I wouldn't have left and I would have done front rotors, pads and sensor as well as thermostat and sensor tire rotation and alignment. But due to a representative named Ceaser I won't personally come back here and won't recommend any of my drivers to come back here. It's not what you say it's how you say it that matters most. When I asked why would it be $365 rather then $212 to change my thermostat Ceaser said it was because he had to add fluid to the radiator, really? 150 dollar fluid? He said no it's the labor lol really?? You charge 150 for pouring fluid???? All said in a condescending manner and lack of customer service etiquette. I would have spend close to a 1k there today but I decided to walk right out. Message To the owner: as a business owner myself, this is the type of behaviors that are detrimental to a business thats why I chose to create this review. I've been here in the past and have gotten work done and have been treated with respect, great service and honesty. This is not a direct review about their business but about an employee that works there. On that note please know that your employee is a direct representative of your business and that if this behavior is acceptable, then this will be a review that is directed at your business by future customers as you have already lost this customer and his drivers. So my wife went here because of a flat tire... so all tires needed replacement, so she bought alll 4tires (approx. $680), got them balanced, at this point was "courteously" explained by service dude that because of axles being worn and damaged no alignment was going to be possible. She was explained that CV Axles needed replacement, "then" alignment would be "possible". So, she asked for estimate on axles... as advised and "professionally" recommended, and in order to make alignment possible, she proceeded to order axle replacement ($606)... So far so good... so you think you are being fairly serviced and advised, right?... Wrong!... after work on axles was completed they then explained that alignment was still not possible since Control Arm/Ball Joints were also bad (worn or torned) and needed replacement ($700... only)... now this is how you sell "damn it"!, so what's next? Power Steering Pump?... Steering Rack?... Entire Suspension? or What? How far do they want to push the envelope? Anyways, I find this quite messed up (f-ked-up if you may), since they can see this kind of issue easily and they ought to mentioned that from the beginning, thus to offer my wife (or anyone else) the chance to decide better, weather or not to invest the kind of money... now after spending a total of about $1300, we are still $700 away from alignment being possible. These kind arbitrary practice can only come from rip off bullies who care shit about customers and have no idea about service and have no decent selling skills whatsoever. They will get in trouble if they keep on ripping people off like this and if they don't change their practices for the good, of course... A TV reporter here with a hidden camera would give them a lesson to remember, it would allow them to reconsider and pay attention to how they do business. I recommend not to buy services from these kind of business which are clearly badly managed and serviced by some disrespectful personalities. I notice some of the good reviews come actually from people who obviously have no good consuming habits and are used to being taken for fools, or simply don't care to be such. read more

Kyle (write up tech/front desk) is a nice guy but ever since the new ASSISTANT MANAGER came in (super rude guy) started working there at the front, it's gone down hill. Super long time customer and several of my friends now gone and many have/will follow. No longer can recommend this location to friends. I'd recommend the Hasbrouck Heights location. I've upgraded 1 star to 3 stars only because I contacted corporate which in turn contacted a (new manager) Chris, which promised to get my vehicle fixed properly and it was eventually taken care of. Thank you very much Chris and Kyle! I wish you the best with the existing ASSISTANT MANAGER! My apologies for not being able to rate any higher because, I must warn others of your ASSISTANT MANAGER! I had the unfortunate experience of blowing a wheel bearing in an enclosed trailer, while traveling from Canada to Manhattan. Luckily, I happened to break down close enough to limp over to Pep Boys in Lodi, NJ. It was almost closing time on a Saturday, so there wasn't much that could be done on the spot, but the staff facilitated us unloading our trailer into a rental truck, and said to call in Monday morning. On Monday, I spoke with Caesar. He said he would do his best to see if he could get us back on the road. True to his word, he found the needed parts, had them shipped from Canada, picked them up, and got the trailer fixed before we had to come home. The service was excellent, price was great, and the work performed exceeded expectations. I highly recommend Caesar and his techs to anyone who needs repair work done. My initial review was based on one interaction with this location, which happened to not be a good one. However, I have to say that I am very impressed at the quick response from Pep Boys. They reached out to me and after sharing our experience with them, they contacted the location and within a few hours I received a phone call from the manager. He apologized and made the situation right. We all have a bad day now and then and next time I will extend a little grace before reacting with a bad review. I have used the same mechanic and auto service company for the past twenty years. Due to a lack of time and convenience of location, I took my car to the Pep Boys on Route 17 South in Wood Ridge for multiple repairs. I am very skeptical of large chains when it comes to individual attention and service, which is why I have used the same "Mom and Pop" auto service for so long. What I found when I went to Pep Boys was a top notch, professionally run service center. Every person I encountered was friendly, courteous and extremely personable. They attended to all my concerns and went above and beyond what I would consider to be standard service. I was so impressed that I brought my second car in the following week for regular maintenance. Once again I was met with the same level of service, OUTSTANDING. I have four cars and I will be using Pep Boys for all my service needs from now on. The Pep Boys in Wood Ridge on Route 17 South is my new "Mom and Pop" auto service center. Service Manager Matt English, General Manager Guary Rodriguez and all the staff at this shop are doing things right. Terrible service. I had an appt here to change a part and when I got here, they did not have the part, even though they knew what was needed and I had made this appt in advance. After I drove to pick up said part and bring it in, they "changed it" but it did not fix the issue. Months later we come in for another issue and we mention how the previous issue was not resolved. After leaving the car overnight, we come to pick it up in the morning to find out there was no communication to recheck the previous issue and it had gone unfixed, again. I went for an oil change. He wanted to sell me tires. Then, wipers. No, I was in a hurry and just needed a quick oil change before picking up my kid from school. Afterwards, I found oil leak underneath. Whoever on the job didn't install the oil filter properly. To make matters worse, he only put back half of the number of screws for the plastic cover under there. One screw for the driver's side corner was even broken inside. Now that side cover is hanging loose and making noises driving on any uneven surface road. Can Pep Boys make things right? read more

I brought my car in for service regarding an engine light on Wednesday 12/2/15. My boyfriend went with me so he could speak to the mechanic and make sure I didn't get screwed. There was one person behind the counter and no mechanics. It was before noon. The guy told us they would do a diagnostic check when the mechanic came in and call us when they knew what was going on. We waited all day for a call. Eventually my boyfriend called the shop and asked what was going on. They said there was a part they needed and it wouldn't be in until Saturday. My boyfriend got upset and told them that was ridiculous. He was told they would do what they could. The following day we waited around for a phone call..didn't go anywhere because we didn't want to miss the phone call. My boyfriend called around 1 pm just to see what was going on. No part, no nothing. They told us they would call and they never did. My boyfriend called toward the end of the day and was told they couldn't do anything until the following day. He told them it was ridiculous that the car was still there and not fixed. He's been a loyal Pep Boys customer for years and he's never had his car held hostage at the shop for more than a day..two tops. The following day, we waited ..again for a phone call. My boyfriend called early and was told they had the part and he would hear from them when the job was done. He gave them a few hours (we got no phone calls) and it was toward the end of the day. They told him the part was "special" and the mechanic didn't have the proper tool to take the part off the car! How is it that an auto service facility doesn't have all the proper tools needed to fix any and all car issues? My car repair had something to do with a vacuum pump...I'm no mechanic but don't try and tell me nobody had ever come in with the exact same problem before!! Besides there's an auto supply store right across the highway!! By this time my boyfriend was livid. The guy on the phone was arguing with him because my boyfriend was angry and was telling them it was ridiculous the car had been there for 3 whole days for a repair that should have been done in a day. He told them he would not be paying for the extra labor and he wanted his 10% discount. We were told we had to wait yet another two hours (putting this around 6 pm) in order to pick up the car. My boyfriend and I will no longer be Pep Boys customers. I think it's pretty shoddy they don't have all the proper tools they need to complete a job. Their customer service is lousy. They never called to give us updates and the last guy who spoke to my boyfriend who was arguing with him never tried to empathize with him. He was flippant, arrogant, and nasty. I used to work customer service and I've dealt with my share of nasty customers. You don't argue with them, you try to solve the problem. This guy needs some kind of training. So disappointed...they come across as "professional", yet the place gave me the impression that there was no urgency and they don't care about their customers. My boyfriend had every reason to be angry..it was up to the Pep Boys employee on the phone to try and placate him, apologize, etc because the fault was clearly theirs. Never ever again!! Unless you want your car to be gone from a few days to a week don't bring it to this Pep Boys!!! We are never ever going back... read more
