I walked in expecting to pay $500 for my brakes to be done. I was armed with the Black Friday discount and wasn't going to pay a cent more. I walked out with $500 in my pocket still. They spent 40 minutes on my car and test drove it before declaring mybrakes were fine. I see 2 stars on here, I beg to differ. Employee (male) refused to diagnose or service my vehicle because another mechanic worked on my AC previously ?????? Aren't all if not most vehicles worked on by a different mechanic at some point?? I believe he was upset that my husband knew what the AC issue was but didn't have the proper tools to complete it himself. Mind you, we were willing to pay FULL PRICE for whatever services were rendered. Such a shame my business was lost and I had to post this unsatisfactory review. read more

My car was towed in Pep Boys on a Saturday for a simple replacement of a starter and my car didn't get serviced until Tuesday because they only have 1 tech. Broke a part on my starter and excuse me of putting a starter on and remind you no one me before putting new starter that was $495 plus $150 service fees. Regional manager told me I should have taken my car somewhere else. I was talked to rudely with very poor service. I was told I would be given a free oil change and didn't happen. I had agreed to a particular price before I left the store. I even recall Dan commenting that the price of $109 was a really good price. The conversation also included my comment that I had wanted to spend about $600 but that I was ok with a total of about $750 despite some $200 for the labor. A military discount was offered of 10% they did not give me an invoice to sign. They provided a Lyft and I left. When I returned I was price gouged with an actual price of $190 per tire and told my total was over $950 after my military discount. The man who started the transaction was gone and did not answer his phone when they tried to call. The internet price on the tire is listed as $190 after I checked, but I probably would not have bought all 4. I could consider adjusting my review if they make good on this by giving me a refund for free labor. After all, I bought a full set and was misinformed by the manager of all people about the initial price. read more

Simply the best service I could have ever hoped for. Passing through AL my radiator went bad. To make it worse, the car is a 1993 Mustang! We tried every service center open and we were turned down except for Pep Boys. Not only did they find me a part but the car was ready and finished in an hour. Kudos to the whole team! read more

I made an appointment one day before. I showed up for my Oil Change and Tire Rotation a half hour before my scheduled appointment. When I got there, there wasn't a single car in any of the bays. The place was the least busy an auto shop could be for 10:30am. One of the reasons I showed up early was because I HAD to leave by Noon and I informed the shop manager of that when I was handing over my keys. He said no problem and I assume I'd be out of there by 11:30am. At 11:50am I reminded him that I needed to leave by Noon. He started making excuses telling me that it takes a lot of extra time to remove the rock shield under my SUV and that they wanted to make sure the job was done PERFECTLY right. I started pacing by the desk at noon, making my situation very obvious. At 12:11am they finally pulled up with my SUV. I was 10 minutes late for a following appointment as a result. After my appointment, driving back to work I noticed my Check Engine light was on. A couple miles down the road I found a safe spot to pull over. Too no surprise I discovered my oil caps was not screwed back into the top of the engine and no where to be found. Also there was oil splattered everywhere, as a result of driving without an oil cap. I immediately called the shop manager giving him a piece of my mind. There is no reason for them to take more than an hour to do an oil change and tire rotation at a dead shop unless they have incompetent mechanics working there. When I worked in an auto shop it took me 30 minutes to do both at the same time. Not putting the oil cap back on is a recipe for disaster and reasons why shops go out of business, having to pay to replace people's engines due to people driving without adequate oil in their engine. I've had good experiences at an other Pep Boys in town, but I won't be going back to this location. EVER. read more

Took in fully working car for routine maintenance. Car now runs hot. Almost two months and 2 thousand dollars later, a full replacement of every component in the cooling system (at Pepboy's request) after they guessed at what was wrong and I was left stranded 150 miles from home after being told the car was safe and working. Sonja the assistant manager lies. Danny Wilkerson assistant manager lies. Tell you to call 1-800-Pepboys, where all you can do is order a tow. Told to call and speak to Curtis - does not exist. RPM now way too high, timing is way off. Having to take it to a REAL mechanic to get it fixed. This place and it's employees are nothing but a lying scam looking to upcharge and upsell customers for mere profit. read more

I paid over $500 to have my rear brakes and rotors repaired. As soon as I left the store and drove 3 miles back to my home, I noticed my breaks were smoking. I called back to the Pep Boys location and was told that it was normal and they would stop after a few more miles. I said okay. Well, this is a spare vehicle and is not driven much- mostly just on the weekends. I attempted to drive my vehicle this past weekend (approximately 2 miles) and noticed that my breaks were smoking terribly, so I got out of my truck to discover both breaks (left and right) were on fire!! Thank God I had some water in my truck! I put the fire out and took my truck back to Pep Boys and was told that they didn't discover any damage. What!! I told them after the fire, I noticed that my truck was barely breaking. When I pressed down on the breaks, the break pedal went almost to the floor. Thankfully, I was only one mile from the location of Pep Boys. The representative told me they could not tell it was damaged, and I now needed calipers at cost of $700! I explained again that my breaks were on fire and the truck lost almost all of its breaking ability. There was no way nothing was damaged. the representative told me she would drive the truck and call me back. Well, she never called back. I've never had these kinds of issues with my truck before I took it to Pep Boys. If my truck needed calipers, why wasnt I told this when they installed new breaks and rotors since that's a part of the break inspection? I've had similar issues with PepBoys in the past, but was hoping since this was a different location, maybe I would have a better experience. This place has ruined my truck and is lying about fault! read more

I went in for an oil change, which their sign says 29.99 for, and came out with a $60 charge, including things I didn't ask for. I had a $10 fuel system cleansing charge and the oil itself was nearly $30. I didn't even realize my car was high mileage, so the expensive oil is whatever, especially since I won't need another change for twice the mileage, but I was still charged for something I didn't ask for. The service itself was good and was done in a few hours, but I was upset to see the random charge on there. I'll be doing it myself from now on, I just didn't have the time this weekend. read more

We had issues with a 1999 Toyota 4-Runner not going over 45 mph traveling through Montgomery. We requested a replacement of the timing belt (usually cost $600+) when we arrived to the shop on a holiday weekend. Every other auto service was closed or was closing early and turned us away when we needed help the most. After working with Walter, he properly diagnosed and fixed our real issue and the cost turned out to be below $400 and was completed in under an hour. In a world of questionable mechanic advise and predatory service, this place stands out from the rest. I highly recommend this place. I took my daughters car here because it needed a lot of work. Her card needed brakes, rotors, tires, windshield wipers, and the list goes on. They fixed it all and didn't offer us services that we didn't need. One of the best service experiences I've ever had in my life and it was not as costly as I thought it would be. read more

I went here to have my light bulb replaced in a New Beetle and they charged her approximately $50 labor....to total $78. These people are rip offs and should be ashamed of themselves. The Volkwagon dealership only cost around $45 as I learned later. They told me it was somewhat labor intensive....had to take the bumper off!!! Don't send your sister, mother, or any woman here to be ripped off!!! read more

I simply must do a shout out for the Pep Boys team on Zelda Rd here in Montgomery! I noticed my back left tire wouldn't hold air longer than a few days and figured I had a leak. It was Sat late afternoon (4PM) and I was on the hunt for a place who could do a quick fix. Went first to a place called Sexton Tire Pros (also on Zelda Rd) and when I went inside, the guy at the counter said they were closing and couldn't help me. When I told him I was new to the area and asked for a recommendation for another service station to fix it, he couldn't come up w/ anything other than Pep Boys that was "maybe open later" and across the street (literally - it's across the street), but added that he doubted they'd take me w/out an appt and I could expect to wait over an hour if they could even do it today. Well, I still gave them a try and am SO HAPPY I DID! When I walked in, the Pep Boys team was very kind and professional...took my little Fiat 500X right inside the garage, located the nail in my tire and plugged it all w/in 30 mins. The best part?? NO CHARGE! Are you kidding me? I just moved here from DC and this really blew me away...already loving this southern hospitality. I can't speak for other services here and/or validate the 1-star reviews at this location, but I can tell you I will be returning to them for anything else while I live here!
