I really wanted to give Pepe's Cantina a higher rating because there was a lot to like. The food was good, the staff was genuinely friendly, and even though the place is on the smaller side, it has a fun atmosphere and good vibes. Unfortunately, the margaritas completely ruined the experience for me. They tasted like they were premade, and when I asked about them, my server mentioned they use a tequila made specifically for the restaurant. Whatever the reason, they just weren't good. I usually look forward to a margarita at a Mexican restaurant, and these were some of the worst I've had. I'd still come back for the food, but I'd definitely skip the drinks next time. read more

The only dish that was a letdown from our group was the tortilla soup, though I didn't personally try it, my sister only ate a few bites and left it. The only reason for knocking 1 star off is because I was charged $16.50 for three itty bitty cans of Clamato. When I say itty bitty, I mean like just about the size of a shot glass, maybe a tad bigger. You can get a six pack of them at Walmart for $4 and change. So I was absolutely baffled at the hefty price tag. So two non alcoholic "beers" with the tomato juice in them ended up costing around $30+ which is absurd in my opinion. I generally leave pretty positive reviews but this was a less than average experience. My husband and I came here for an early dinner because the reviews looked really great. We made a reservation and there weren't many people dining yet so we figured the service would be faster but it was pretty slow to order, receive (not hot) food and to get the check. Our waitress had a bad attitude, couldn't be bothered to smile, which is really what brought the whole experience down. The $14 margaritas were the size of a small glass of water, very overpriced. The pros; large menu to choose from and even though the food and drinks weren't great, it was very lovely presented. Pleasant outdoor back seating a block from the water. At the end of dinner someone yelled something and about five servers ran to the back of a truck to grab bags of ice. I am blow away by the service and accommodation that Pepe's had to host my 40th birthday with a reservation for 50 people!! The food came out quickly and hot and we didn't have to worry about people being done when the others food was just coming out. We were able to bring in our own cake with no issues! Pepe's is in downtown Clermont about a block from the large lake. This was a fun stop for dinner on a Friday evening as the whole area is buzzing with people, live music and shopping. Service was prompt, chips & salsa came immediately after seating, as it should. There's seating in and out and also an entire " margarita Garden" in the back for more casual dining. We went more traditional and sat at a table, had the fajitas trio (chicken, steak, and ), shrimp tacos, and street corn. Price is on the higher side but food was great on flavor. Visited Clermont and had the pleasure of having Pepe's cantina just steps away from where I was located. This place really brings in those Mexican vibes that I look forward to when it comes to all things tacos. They have a great margarita bar along with a full selection of spirits. They offer table side guac which gets made right at your table and you get to taste it before they finish to give it any specific flavors but I can say they've perfected it and there's no need. The Birria is Amazing, from tacos to burritos to even birria empanadas! They have a huge selection of dishes and protein to choose from. Tons of seafood including octopus which I strive for. On both visits I had phenomenal service. They were attentive, welcoming, help you with the menu and the food comes out faster than you'd expect at any sit down place. We told the server it was our first time here and he laughed and said me too. We laughed but then it didn't become funny. We all started with drinking. I had a watermelon margarita. It was delicious. We are off to a good start. My friends ordered the queso and chips. Only queso was brought out and the chips to use were the free ones they put on the table when we arrived. The queso was a small dish. It was definitely not worth the coin for that. Next the mains. I had the chicken enchiladas. The sauce was flavorless, the chicken was dry and the tortilla shell you couldn't even cut. I also ordered the yuca fries. I laughed when they came out. There were 4 lined up on a plate. They were good but not worth 4.50. My friend ordered the shrimp tacos with the plantains for the extra up charge. The tacos came out and they were fish instead of shrimp. The server came over we told him and he just stared at the plate. That's how we knew it was his first day. Instead of saying I apologize and grabbing the plate, he said I'll be back I'm gonna talk to my manager. He went in the back and then came back again, grabbed the plate and took in the back area again. I had the full view I could see them inspecting the tacos. I'm a big fan of Pepe's Cantina. When my husband and I are in the mood for Mexican food, this is our go-to spot. First of all, the margarita selection is outstanding. My personal favorite, and the one that always keeps me returning, is the Spicy Pineapple Margarita. Super flavorful and delicious! For food, I've never had a bad experience. Pepe's does specialize in some unique seafood combos (including dishes with octopus), so be aware when you order. Some of my favorite dishes are the Hawaiian fajitas and the salmon tacos. Amazing! My husband also really enjoyed the barbacoa burrito during our last visit. We also always get the table side guacamole; it is outstanding! The service is always good and fairly quick. We stopped here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon after browsing the farmer's market. We were quite hungry so were happy to start digging into complimentary chips and salsa while reviewing the menu. We chose to sit outside. They have a nice patio and we had our pups with us so it was perfect. Our server was friendly and checked on us regularly. Three out of four of us got the enchiladas; mine were chicken. My bf ordered one of their Sunday brunch specials, the breakfast bowl with barbacoa. The chicken could have used a bit more seasoning in my opinion, but was still good. The rice was good and the refried beans were awesome! I don't know how this place manages to stay open, but eating here felt less like dinner and more like a cautionary tale. First, the chips and salsa. The chips were somehow both stale and greasy, like they'd been sitting out since last Tuesday and then reheated under a desk lamp. The salsa tasted like someone whispered "tomato" into a bowl of watery ketchup and called it a day. Zero spice. Zero flavor. Just vibes -- bad ones. I ordered enchiladas. What arrived looked like it had lost a fight with a microwave. The tortillas were rubbery, the filling was bland and suspiciously mushy, and the sauce had the consistency of cafeteria gravy. The rice was dry enough to qualify as packing material, and the beans... I'm not convinced they weren't scooped straight from a can and aggressively over-salted for personality. Service somehow made it worse. Our server disappeared for long stretches of time, only to reappear with the enthusiasm of someone being forced to apologize. Water refills? A myth. Checking on the table? A legend passed down through generations. The atmosphere was equally confusing -- loud music clashing with an echoey dining room, flickering lights, and décor that looked like it was purchased during a "Fiesta Clearance Event" at a party supply store. By the end of the meal, I wasn't just disappointed -- I was impressed. It takes real commitment to get this many things wrong at once. We came in for lunch on Tuesday. It was taco Tuesday and their happy hour was in place at the time we arrived. We were kindly greeted and taken go our table right away. We sat, the waitress checked on us, took our order and the food came out quite fast. We ordered table guacamole and the young woman who made it seemed rather bothered to have to and it was a tad awkard. We tried it and not wanting to bother her we just said thank you and it was fine. we added seasoning to our taste after and then came in the Octopus Ceviche entre. The ceviche was overly salty, sadly the octopus seemed a bit rubbery.. I ate what I could as It was 16 dollar entre...: The fresh chips and guac was quite tasty.. The lunch chicken fajita was very tasty the presentation was nice. The beans were so very tasty. Lunch portion steak tacos, with corn tortilla were the perfect size and portion was that which hit the spot. Overall the restaurant was clean, nice, good service and it was not busy. A few Sundays ago I arrived here and was trying to enjoy a nice Sunday lunch with esteemed guest from the church and while we were deep in conversation and enjoying our meal, every few moments of being interrupted by the server, almost as if we were being rushed out. Mind you, it was fairly early around 1145 that we sat down and enjoyed our meal. As time passed, more people started trickling in and filling up the place, the nonstop visit every few minutes by the server became incessant and irritating to the point that eating here on a Sunday was no longer an option. Yesterday for Mother's Day, We came to a packed house so despite the food being decently good It's popularity became just too much. It's not even worth going to eat there anymore so I would recommend not coming here on Sundays as it tends to get very packed in picking days that are not likely to be packed safe perhaps Monday early in the afternoon when no one's around otherwise you'll just be waiting in line and get overwhelmed being rushed out of a restaurant. It's disappointing that their own success will likely become their demise if they continue to change staff and serve smaller portions than what they're charging for. The fact that it has several locations throughout the state, while good for them in their success of growing, the quality will eventually dwindle down in terms of service and will have less touch with what charms you in the first place with its nice decorations and fresh mural it has placed instead of the mirror that adorned the entire wall. I hope the best for this place but I think it's going to be a long time before I return. read more

I've been wanting to come here for a while and never had the opportunity until now. First let's start by saying that everyone here is really nice and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, music was just right not too loud so you can actually have a conversation. They brought out some complimentary Tortilla Chips and fresh homemade salsa, you can actually taste how fresh it was and it was absolutely delicious! My Dad ordered Colorado Pork Stew Chimichanga and he absolutely loved it and coming from him that says a lot, lol. I ordered XXL Burrito with Angus Beef Steak and that was really good (they need a bigger plate for this dish)! Afterwards we had the Fried Ice Cream and it wasn't what I had expected. For me Fried Ice Cream is usually Hot and crunchy on the outside and obviously cold on the inside but that wasn't the case. The outer crust was more chewy than crunchy and cold. You do get two scoops but before I was able to take a picture Dad had gotten to it quicker than squirrel stealing a nut, lol. If you do order it, it's plenty for two people. The Fried Ice Cream wasn't bad but still tasty (I would say a 3.5 out of 5 on the dessert, everything else 5 out of 5). Overall the food was amazing, great service, fun atmosphere and even my Dad would come back. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! read more
