My husband really enjoyed the beef empanadas!

This was our first time trying this place out, so we ordered a few different things to share. We first had the beef empanadas (which were way bigger than we expected for the price). They packed a flavor punch! We also had the crazy fries which were HUGE and had lots of great flavors and textures. My husband ordered the La Jibara (chicken & bacon wrapped mofongo, smothered in the most amazing cilantro cream sauce and cheese) with a side of this amazing rice dish that was SO GOOD! Like jambalaya, but with Carribbean flavors and sweet plantains... We ended with a guava pastry and some cheese flan. The flan was out of this world! We will definitely be back!

I decided to try this new spot for the first time and overall it's not bad at all. I was starving and didn't want to cook dinner but craved something different so I headed out and finally gave it a chance. I love Spanish food since I'm from the Caribbean also so I already knew what to expect having grown up eating Authentic Puerto Rican food and other similar dishes from various cultures as well. Upon walking in I was greeted by a nice gentleman who asked if I'd like to dine in or do takeout. I opted for takeout since I had a few other stops on the way home. I ended up placing an order for the Pernil (shredded pork) with rice and beans with a side of plantains. The cashier rung me up for tostones but I asked a server to be sure I got the regular fried sweet plantains I wanted and she politely relayed the message to the cook for me. My meal came up to about $20 it was a little more than I expected. I waited about 45 min to an hour before receiving my meal so that was a bit disappointing but Once I got home to dive in that kind of made up for it since the food was delicious the pork was seasoned well and not too salty. I wish the rice and beans were already combined but that they were still good to being separate. The portion size was perfect and I was actually able to make two meals out of it having leftovers for my lunch the next day. So I guess 20 bucks was not bad after all since I was able to make 2 meals out of 1. The restaurant was pretty full on this day surprisingly so that's a good thing as I've noticed many times passing by they seemed to get pretty packed. I visited this location prior when it was a Mexican restaurant so I'm very familiar with the interior but I like what the new owners did to give the space a bit of sprucing up. As I left everyone was kind thanked me for coming and told me goodbye. I would recommend and I will probably come back only place my order ahead to avoid the long wait.

Nice to have another Puerto Rican restaurant here at Clermont. They have both the food serves from the steamed table and from the menu. The service was great. Our waitress checked back with us several times and answered all our questions about the food. I got the crazy fries as lunch and it was so reasonably priced at only $10. The fries was loaded with pull pork, mozzarella cheese, and Mayo-ketchup. Definitely will come back to try their other dishes and maybe even get to go order from the steamed table on my way home from work.

It's hard to please my wife when it comes to mofongo. She declared that it was the best she ever had.

Disappointing Experience at Tropical Mofongo…read more I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at Tropical Mofongo. I called to place an order and was told they would not take my order over the phone and that I had to order online. I followed their instructions and placed an online order totaling over $100. The order indicated that my food would be ready at 3:17 PM. I arrived at approximately 3:30 PM, only to find that my food was still not ready. When I went to pick up the order, I was asked to provide identification. Unfortunately, I had left my ID at the hotel where I was staying. I did have a picture of my ID on my phone, but instead of accepting that, I was told they wanted to write down my driver's license number. Given the amount of identity theft and fraud happening today, I was not comfortable providing my driver's license number for someone to write down. They offered me a refund, and I ultimately left without the food I had ordered. I understand that businesses have policies regarding identification, but the entire experience was frustrating and lacked customer service. I followed their instructions to order online, paid over $100, arrived at the stated pickup time, and still walked away without my food. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend Tropical Mofongo. The customer service and handling of the situation were extremely disappointing.

Years later, and the food is still what keeps bringing us back!…read more My husband is on vacation this week, so we headed to El Pollo Colorao for lunch today as a party of four. We've been eating here for years, and while we love supporting local, enjoy the atmosphere, and have always found the staff friendly, let's be honest -- the food is why we keep coming back. We arrived around 1:30 and had two groups ahead of us at the counter, but the line moved quickly. In fact, there was a pretty steady line the entire time we were there, right up until we left around 2:30. Their takeout business was hopping too! Despite how busy they were, we had no problem finding a table in the dining room. I decided to branch out this visit and tried the #14 Pernil Sandwich with yellow rice. The sandwich has roasted pork and potato straws on their delicious bread, and my first comment after taking a bite was about how flavorful the pork was. It was tender and juicy, and I loved the contrast of the crunchy potato straws with the pork and that soft, slightly sweet bread. So good! Two people in our group ordered the #2 Tripleta, one with yellow rice and the other with yuca. The Tripleta is actually the favorite sandwich of all three of my family members. They love the combination of meats along with the crunch from the potato straws. My husband is normally firmly on Team Tripleta too, but decided to branch out and order the Mediodia this time. We were told when ordering that it would take about 30 minutes and were given the option to change his order, which I appreciated. He decided to wait and was glad he tried it. He enjoyed it, but since he tends to prefer savory over sweet, I have a feeling he'll be right back to his beloved Tripleta next time. And, as always, he got his favorite side -- the maduros. Yum! When everything was ready, they brought our food and drinks right to the table on a tray. The gentleman who took our order was very personable, and Abel came over to our table while we were eating. He recognized my husband and remembered his name -- which really impressed me considering it has probably been about a year since our last visit. And can we talk about the value? We spent about $60 for four meals with sides, three drinks AND a bag containing two loaves of their bread to take home. Yes, we buy the bread every time. It's that good. Even better, the portions are so generous that everyone took about half of their sandwich home for dinner. They definitely don't skimp on the meat here, so you fill up quickly. The dining area is comfortable and has some fun, whimsical artwork that gives the place plenty of personality. They also have a nice assortment of drink options and seating by the windows for customers waiting on takeout orders, which seems to help keep the dining tables available even when they're busy. After all these years and multiple visits, El Pollo Colorao continues to earn 5 stars from us. Great food, generous portions, good value, friendly people, and a locally owned restaurant we're happy to continue supporting.
