The worst most ghetto, unprofessionally, slow, disrespectful taco shop. Period!!! Order 3 tacos. Took them 30 minutes to make. Drive back home only to have the complete wrong order. Instead of refunding me for the wrong order they insisted I come back out into the cold, and drive back to prove to them they screwed up. That's what ghetto shops do. That's why this franchise is going to hell. Won't be going back. I'd rather go to Taco Bell and they are horrible. Yet, still aren't RUDE ASF!!! They deserve zero stars. read more

This Pepe's is the worst! I will never return. The manager is horrible with customer service, I'm not sure if he doesn't understand or can read English well but he needs to be fired. We order two entrees, a tamales and 2 special prices margaritas. I had a coupon for $10 which was not good on any specials which is understandable so I asked can the margaritas be rung up separately and the waiter said no and went and got the manager. The manager said the coupon cannot be used on the bill because the drinks were on there. I told him to ring them up separately he said no because the coupon said no valid on specials. Liquor wasn't even including in the coupon! Mine you the food was full price. He said in order to take the coupon he has to charge me full price for the margaritas! What sense does that makes? Instead of taking the $3 and putting on a separate bill smh. No worries I will never return! read more

i always get my husband a steak burrito cheese, red sauce ( not a dinner) from here to go. This time it he said it was not good. very little meat , very little cheese and red sauce and not seasoned. I also asked for hot peppers and hot sauce. i received a container of carrots with half of a hot pepper in the container and no hot sauce. This steak burrito cost me (again not a dinner) almost $17 . We were very , very disappointed and dissatisfied. read more

Delicious food! Drinks are soo good and half price margaritas on Tuesday and Thursday!!! I ended up back ordering to-go the next day I had stuffed beef tacos . You won't miss with this place. After coming here several years, I had a bad experience. There were 4 of us and nobody enjoyed their food or drinks. There was several mistakes in our order. Our server said he would talk to the manager about our order. Later we asked another for the manager and she told us there was no manager present. We were told the same cooks were in the kitchen but the food was definitely different. read more

Solid 5 stars! What an excellent authentic Mexican restaurant! The service was absolutely top notch and the food... omg, the food!!! My friend was raving about Pepe's at this location for years and I finally was able to try it today. Salsa!!! Omg their chips and salsa are unreal. I could drink that salsa. Man, just add a splash of vodka in that salsa and just drink it up! Like a Bloody Mary. I had a 2 taco lunch with rice and beans. Let me tell you that no where you will get as quality lunch for 8 bucks. NOWHERE! Veggie tacos had so much flavor, I still taste them after a bit. Rice and beans were fantastic as well. The sauces they make are just incredible. I cannot wait to go back there and get stuffed again. We definitely need more places like that. read more

Pepe's in matteson is a decent location . I haven't had many problems here, and it's normally clean with good customer service. Thursday is happy hour for half price margaritas so that's the day to go! Anyhow, the food is a hit or miss because occasionally they skimp on ingredients . Here's my take out nachos which was built on broken up chips. There was lots of toppings but nothing but crumb chips at the bottom. Also the cheese was almost nonexistent !!!! Highly disappointing . read more

I have been coming to Pepes in Matteson since I was a kid! It has the same owner as the Chicago Heights location. I love the food here, and the staff are always friendly. There is one dining room, which gets extremely crowded on Tuesday and Thursday nights ( Half Priced Margarita day)! Take out service can be really slow on those days. Otherwise, service is good. Mondays and Wednesdays, Pepe's in Matteson has $.99 beef, chicken, and pork carryout tacos! read more

Pepe's Mexican Restaurant - $.99 Tacos!!!! - Mexican Near Me - Matteson, Illinois

This location is quickly approaching being scratched off of our list. We called in our order so we could enjoy a relaxing evening at home. When they rang up our meals, they said the total (with a $5 off coupon) was $33!! Considering that we had each order meals that were about $12 each, we examined the receipt and discovered they had charged us for our meals AND a "Special #2"!?!? When we got the manager involved, he had the cashier give us the difference back in cash, but couldn't even explain what the "Special #2" could be. After we got the money straight, we got our food and left. When we got home, the nightmare continued. My wife's veggie burrito was SMOTHERED in cheese, which she specifically had ordered her meal without. My mini steak burritos were more like micro burritos, even though they were the same cost as a regular burrito, which was twice as much food. When we called the restaurant to inform them of the error with my wife's order, the manager was defensive and claimed we didn't say "no cheese" and the only recourse he offered was a free taco, which we would have had to drive back to the restaurant in Chiberia weather to get. We'll try Mr. Burrito next time. read more

So disappointed with the quality of tacos I received! I ordered my food through uber eats and there was no issue there. I just expected full authentic tacos and I got Taco Bell. I ordered 2 beef tacos, in which I assumed was steak, but no it was a taco they stole from Taco Bell. I also ordered 12 mini chicken tacos with cheese, little did I know the cheese covered the entire 12 tacos. The cheese seemed very plastic. The chicken on the inside was extremely shredded and fine and the shells were corn. I just ended up throwing it all away. All I learned was when trying something new on uber eats, just order McDonald's! read more

I ordered a chicken nacho and it was saturated in oil. I told my server & he sent "Ricky" to the table. I showed him my plate & he insisted that it was juice from the chicken & cheese. My nachos were soggy & he offered to remake my order. Due to his cocky & arrogant attitude, I told him that I didn't want it. He then told me that he would have to charge me half for the nachos because I had eaten half of it. Which was the furthest from the truth. I then asked him his name & he told me, " Ricky, I m the manager & the owner in a cocky tone. My sister and I went here because we had a craving for fried ice cream and we called around to several area restaurants and this was the only one that said they had it. The one downside is that they in fact do not have fried ice cream; it's just a sundae with chocolate sauce and cornflakes. HOWEVER, the food was great and was an excellent value. I would definitely recommend it for Mexican food. I'm giving it four stars due to the fake fried ice cream and the worn/dirty appearance of the interior. read more

I'm pretty sure I've been coming here since I was born. I remember ordering kids meals back in the day and now I'm well over the ordering alcohol age. The staff here are like family to me. Always treated well, the food is delicious, margaritas are amazing and they just updated the menu. Wednesday is $.99 carry out tacos and Tuesday and Thursdays are 1/2 price margaritas and it can get a little crazy so I'd suggest you come earlier in the day to get the special. This Pepes is a good place to go for margaritas. They're 1/2 off on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The margaritas are done right here, nice and strong. This Pepes is family run and the wait staff are friendly and the place is well run. The food is typical Pepes grub....fajitas, tacos,Mex/American stuff. For real Mexican food you need to go to Mexico anyway. It can get crowded here on the 1/2 price margarita nights and on the weekends so plan accordingly. This is one of my favorite places for margaritas...go try one! ( or two ) read more

This place is absolute TRASH!!!!!! The food made myself as well as others that were in my party ill literally!! When calling the "establishment" they told me ain't no way, couldn't be possible or hundreds of others would be sick right now! How dare the manager tell me I didn't become ill when I'm still a day later belching up the horrible chicken taco that I ate from yesterday an hour after they open. Called and asked how to get a refund, was told "not going to happen" This Pepe's is a terrible location. BTW had to give a star to even post a review about this trash ass establishment smmfh what a waste of fucking money! read more

Horrible! It took ten minutes before anyone came to check on the front waiting area. There were several of us waiting to be seated. We actually ended up leaving. We will not be retuning. It wasn't a good experience. read more

I'll start by saying I used to come to this location for carry-out orders of beef tacos. They were always consistently good. Then my friends and I discovered their margaritas. Like the guy above stated, margaritas are half off on Tuesdays & Thursdays. I normally get a medium, which is a nice size for lil ol' me for only $4.50. The Blue Hawaiian, Strawberry and Mango (frozen, of course) are the best flavors. My husband swears by a medium Cadillac ' rita. The margaritas are always well blended and they pack somewhat of a subtle punch. And might I add that the punch is not so subtle once you manage to finish one margarita! I always want a second one but that would mean I'd have to almost crawl back to my car, but they sure are tasty! The food is just ok, the salsa and chips are ok. I only go on Tuesdays and after 9pm the place is packed with folks in their 20's and 30's, and there is always a wait for a table around that time. However, stop by around 7 that same night to snag a table; usually there are some families and older couples occupying the restaurant early in the night. Service is as expected on a busy night in the food industry, but the servers are usually prompt. My recommendation is to go here for the margaritas only! read more

This Pepe's is a Margarita oasis. For the last six months, I've been trying to find a good Margarita that wasn't watered down or weak. They are STRONG! I got the medium and it was good enough for the rest of the meal. Try the 1/2 Margarita special. Ricky, the manager, was very pleasant and helpful. The food was good. I expected a Taco Bell style but it was pure authentic Mexican. read more

I love this location on Tuesday nights. It can be very packed and live but that's what makes it so great. The drinks are great and the food is I also. Went on a slow, Saturday evening for a takeout of some steak enchiladas and Chiles Rellenos. Guy on the phone was rushing and mumbling over the phone but whatever. Now wait for this, when I drove up there to get my order it turns out there was only one guy working there. How many cooks? Who knows but only ONE waiter to wait both the tables and phone orders? Absurd! No wonder he was in a rush over the phone. It was roughly 4 tables the poor young man had to wait on including x amount of phone orders. I felt sorry for the guy. Cute af too........ Anyways the food was alright. The Rellenos was pretty decent. The enchiladas was..?? I don't know. It was basically a flour shell with melted cheese and dry steak inside I don't know man. El Cortez got me spoiled. Wouldn't return unless I'm drunk or something. read more
