We came here to get a bite to eat. We had never been to this location before. We walk in on August 2, 2025 and are immediately greeted and asked if we want to eat inside or outside. It was a nice day so we chose outside as they have a covered patio which is nice. Inside are spacious booths and there is dim lighting which is nice. We order our food from our server who was really nice and funny. There was a beautiful fountain in the patio area but unfortunately, it wasn't turned on. I'm not sure if it was broken or what but it would give that area such a serene feel if it were on so we were bummed by that. We enjoyed our drinks, our guacamole and chips appetizer as well as our food. The skirt steak was big and was flavorful. Hubby's steaming plate fajitas were a hit also. I had the fried ice cream for dessert. We had a nice time coming here to just have some quiet and peace as there was only one other patron there with us. As we were leaving, more started coming in. It is currently 4:30 am the night after eating at Pepe's at this location. I am writing to you struggling on the toilet. I just woke up with terrible stomach cramping and cold sweats. I had to run to the bathroom only to find that my boyfriend was already in there with his stomach cramping as well. We have spent almost an hour switching with eachother for the toilet. I haven't had food poisoning like this in years. I was expecting the food to be "pseudo mexican" but I was still shocked to see my plate of enchiladas suizas. They looked nothing like any enchiladas I've ever seen. Very unappealing to the eyes, my first bite was lukewarm as well. As far as the actual restaurant goes, it looked clean inside which makes sense considering it was almost completely dead on a Saturday night. This is a primo Pepe's. Plenty of parking, clean, cute decor. We were seated, and server promptly took and delivered our beverage orders. Tasty taquito appetizers arrived next, included guac and crema. Good stuff! Entrees were delivered, burrito bowl included beans, rice, steak, veggies, more guac and crema. Tasty, portions were generous and filling. Not a bad place for cocktails and a Mexican food fix. This is probably the best of all the Pepe's restaurants that I have ever been to! read more

I used to eat here many moons ago and would usually get the beef tacos, which I loved. Their chips and salsa were the best! Came here recently after not eating at a Pepe's in years. Chips and salsa still great. Tried their buffet which wasn't a bad price for $13. Wide selection. It was... ok. The beef isn't as good as it used to be and I found the chicken to be a bit overcooked and not very flavorful. Overall, the food was mediocre. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough that I'd come back either. Also, their A/C isn't the best so sit closer to the entrance or you might overheat in the summer. read more

Pepe's has been around for quite a while, so whenever the hubski and I are feeling a little nostalgic we take a trip. Lots have changed and improved over the years which is great. My day was a tad but stressful today and so hubby asked me if I would like to go and sure enough I said "sure" :) it's not like I would have said "nah, don't feel like" hehehe I love the changes they have made to the dining room, booths are comfortable and dark color. The chips were freshly made and the servers were all very attentive and accommodating. As soon as we were down they asked if we wanted a refill. Our server Claudia was super sweet and answered all the questions I had about like what to choose to eat (I had two options and she told me to choose the shrimp and it was absolutely the better option of the 2)...thanks Claudia! I also have never had a margarita (I know, I know! I must live under a rock right!) but it was 1/2 price margarita Thursday's so if I wanted to try one today was the day! I choose a mix of mango and guava on the rocks (thanks again to Claudia's recommendation) yummmmmm!!!! It was great! I definitely doing that again. So hubby had the chicken enchiladas dinner with red sauce and I had the garlic grilled shrimp dinner . Hands down, one of the best meals I have ever had at a Mexican restaurant. The shrimps were big, juicy and cooked perfectly (all 14 of them!!!) I am so happy that hubby suggested Pepe's today! It definitely helped to make my day end well :) read more

I was never a Pepe's fan until Moving by this location. Came in for the half priced margaritas and I am now there once a week. Food is real authentic Mexican food, happy hour specials are a bonus. Prices are fair for the awful economy. The reviewers complaining about slow service clearly don't get out much, staffing is an issue in EVERY industry since 2020. Maybe relax and enjoy your marg while you wait. The staff they do have work their butts off and are so polite and helpful- take a sec and tell them they're doing a good job. We have been going here for many years and the luch buffet was great. The last few times we were disappointed in their lunch buffet. We kept giving it chances because they used to be so good. This last time, which was this past week, we decided not to bother coming back for the buffet anymore. The choices were great, but almost everything was luke warm to cool, as it was the past few times. Such a disappointment. We also noticed that the place was pretty empty of customers. Usually, at lunchtime, it gets pretty crowded. This time, there were only a few customers there. We even overheard another person saying that this place has really gone downhill. Ate at Pepe's for the first time while I was out of town on business. Staff was very friendly and the service was quick. Their chips and salsa was some of the best I've had (and I've had a lot of different Mexican restaurants chips and salsa, being that I am a self-proclaimed Mexican food guru). The salsa was very chunky and extremely fresh. Every time I get Mexican, I always get the steak and chicken fajitas and this time was no different. Expect this time, the portion size was HUGE! I've never seen a portion that big before. It was impressive. The only thing I can say that I wasn't a fan of is the fact that it was pretty greasy/oily and that the chicken and steak lacked some sort of spice that is usually present in standard fajita dishes. I've been coming here since I was about 4 years old with my family. The menu has changed a little throughout the years, but never a total revamp. I like that I know what to expect. Some of my favorites are the chips and salsa, beef tostadas, chicken tacos, chicken enchiladas suiza and a beef burrito suiza. The Mayan is a favorite combo, with tostada suiza, taco, and enchilada suiza, your choice of chicken, beef, or pork. Also comes with rice and beans. Definitely enough food to share! I can't think of any time that we had a problem with the service and our food order has always been correct. Only one minor complaint comes to mind, when we went a couple weeks ago, even though the lunch buffet was advertised, they did not have it on the day we went (a Saturday). Either way, I had my favorites, and I look forward to going back again next time I'm in town. read more

The Hickory Hills outfit has been a part of a larger ownership group for years now...and the nephew that runs the place is usually on site and eventually knows everybody by sight ... and when he's not there his trusted backups are. Good basic Mexican food, great margaritas, wonderful chips and salsa (in fact the salsa here is better and fresher than the Tinley Park offering). The staff is especially friendly - you'll come and go just like part of their family. Well-run happy staff leads to the same in the customers. Been here dozens of times and will continue. Extensive menu, large portions, and a kitchen that generally puts food out faster than one can finish their chips. Don't order until you're ready ... because the food comes out in minutes. Fun place. Lots of tables and booths in two rooms - we prefer the bright main dining area...filled with large-screen TVs on the wall. This place can handle families and parties - even rents the side room area for larger groups. This outlet has a special buffet for lunch (well worth visiting), they have an outdoor serving area when the weather cooperates, and they have a special Bears football game event...fixed price and all you can drink. For regular dinner...look for coupons in the newspapers - they are all over the place and worth using. read more

Heard that this location was reopening on Monday April 16th, 2012. Stopped in for a Margarita to check it out. Sat down in the bar area and met the new owner Juan. Found out that this was their opening day. The restaurant had been completely repainted and was looking very new. There were new flat scene TV's at each corner of the bar. The owner said that he intended to offer a lunch buffet Monday through Friday for $6.99 and half price Margarita's on Tuesday and Thursday. I ordred a traditional medium Margarita at the bar. Complimentary chips and salsa were provided free of charge. The Margarita had a good taste without beng too tart and seemed to pack a reasonable amount of tequilla for the $9.99 price tag. My wife and I returned for dinner on Thursday. I suggested that we again sit in th bar area due to the fact that there were two TV's and I noticed that one had the Hawk's game and the other had the Bull's. We both ordered medium Margarita's, my wife a Mango and me a traditional. The bonus today was that they were offered at half price $4.98. I explained mine above, but my wife had the mango and she said that it was great. The mango mix that they use gives a nice fresh fruit taste. My wife ordred the Carne Asada which came with rice & beans. It was cooked medium rare exactly as she asked. She felt that it was a generous portion which was rich in taste. I order the taco dinner with 2 pork taco's and 1 chicken taco on flour tortilla. The pork taco's were tender and had a rich mildly spicy taste. The chicken taco was not as spicy, but also was moist and flavorful. The beams were covered with a little cheese and had a nice taste. The rice had sauce on it and aslo was tasty. Our service was consistant and we enjoyed our meal. We plan on returning in the near future to try the buffet. This establishment has gone downhill very fast, it's really dirty, first impression when you walk in is the doors are so dirty along with the patio area, which when first built years ago was the go to place with a nice atmosphere and good food along with service. Yes restaurants are short handed but the there are numerous employees there that just don't care, the gaming are is littered with empty glasses, napkins floor sticky. getting to the food so inconsistent we were going here once a week for years and the drastic difference over the last year in the food quality along with accuracy of items ordered, 3 times in a row order was wrong so its out fault to keep going back but we are done and I think alot of neighbors feel the same way. read more
