My friend sent me an Instagram video of a gentleman running down pulaski with a torta. He passed a neighborhood icon, the Indian on pulaski and 63rd. That was convincing enough for me to want to get some lunch. Funny enough, the gentleman in the video is who took my order, and I want to commend him for his upbeat and welcoming attitude. I ended up ordering the Torta Super Cris Cris as I was feeling extra gluttonous and wow was it delicious. It's a Torta de Milanesa but it comes with the works, they even add a weenie lol. The salsa which I think was a style of chile de arbol was the cherry on top, it was smoky and spicy, wish I had more for the monstrosity of a torta they gave me. If I could give it no stars, I would. But let me start off, eating at this place was disgusting and worst mistake I did. I should have took my money elsewhere. The moment i walked in, I smelled nothing but dirty mop. Like if they don't clean properly. The smell was just nasty. Then the register girl was so rude and ignored the customers trying to order their food trying to take all the phone calls that she could. She wouldn't even put them on hold. Then when we sat down, the tables were all greasy and nasty. So I sat at the least greasy. Smh. Then I looked at the cook while he was trying to get the chicken orders as fast as he could, he would constantly use the blow torch to cook the chicken faster. That's how the chicken tasted tho. Like the chemical (gas) from the blow torch. So you got the cook doing the cooking, then he would run and try to take orders of the people seated. Read the reviews, so decided to give this restaurant a try as I was driving through. . Ordered the 1/2 chicken meal and a large Jamaica. Total cost $23. Come with seasoned fries, rice refried beans, Spanish rice, tortillas. Very tender and flavorful. Very friendly and helpful staff as there is a lot to decide from the menu. From the outside it looks small but this place can probably seat 100. Didn't try anything g else on the menu, but if it is as good as the chicken on the grill I am sure you will be very happy. After a failed ordering experience with one of our previous Mexican restaurants, I sought out the nearest restaurant from our office via Yelp, which just happened to be El Pollo Cris Cris. And with me being in the process of chasing that Yelp - Mexi-Can badge, I was excited to add this restaurant to my contribution list. Once I entered, El Pollo Cris Cris gave me the impression of it being a breakfast diner due to its inner restaurant set up and interior. Other than its set up an interior, I took interest in its claw vending machines and aluminum rooster at the door prior to entering. Parking at El Pollo Cris Cris is very limited which leads me to believe that it rarely gets crowded inside. I would imagine that its visitors are allowed to use the parking lot across the street, as well as its neighborhood and street parking if the restaurant ever did fill up. I also take into consideration that West Lawn, which is a dominantly Hispanic neighborhood has a ton of Mexican restaurants to choose from, so El Pollo Cris Cris maybe more of a hot takeout spot versus dining in. The menu consisted of pretty much Mexican food, Hot wings and a variation of Fast food items (burgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, fish sandwich, etc.). At first, I was slightly disappointed that they did not have Gyros, which was pictured on their menu, leaving me to make another choice. Our order consisted of 3 Taco Asada's, a Burrito Chorizo, and I chose the Nachos Con Carne, which did not disappoint, plus it was very filling! The portion was so big that I could not finish it all in one sitting, resulting in it becoming next days lunch, and possibly dinner. With our orders being takeout, they were mashed inside of to-go boxes which is my reason for not sharing a picture of our orders because orders just do not look the same in a to-go box versus on a plate. El Pollo Cris Cris has already been identified as one of our new ordering spots for lunch. Plus, I am quite positive that I will return for an Individual visit as well because its Quesadilla Gigante looked really tasty, and I would love to try it. Their tortas are enormous and so tasty. I eat half at the restaurant and save the second half for lunch the next day. I wish the restaurant was a bit more cozy. I'm always freezing, apparently they leave one of their entry doors open so when someone comes in all the cold air comes in with them. Maybe not a problem in summer months. But eating here during winter time is . Still the food makes up for the winter chill. Just be sure to bundle up if you plan on eating in. read more

I've been coming to this place for at least 7 years, and it has always been a good place to eat chicken. My family would love onion, the Agua de Maracuya and the chicken. We recently bought off them and it was the worst. The onions were plain and tasted like water, the agua de maracuya tasted nothing like what it was supposed to, it tasted like straight peach juice. The chicken wasn't freshly cooked, everything about it tasted like it was prepared the day before. Even my son who loves the rice and beans complained about the beans, saying they were nasty. Today was my second time ordering from here and it was more amazing than the first time. I didn't think it could get any better but some how it did. Both their chicken and beef soups are each amazing! They have great taste and come with a good mix of veggies and meat. What could I say about this place. At first I saw an ad on Facebook and thought ohhh this is probably across the country....then find out it's not far at all. Today, in the middle of the COVID19 quarantine, I wanted to treat my son and I to some good food. In front, a gentleman with dingy clothes, a banged up bicycle and without a mask asked if I could buy him something to eat. Indoors, (CASH ONLY) the restaurant made place markers for customers to stand 6 feet away from each other. In the middle stood a small table with a full bottle of their homemade hand sanitizer. (My hands felt very clean after using it.) Their counter space was blocked with chairs for a healthy distance and divided with a large clear plexiglass. Thinking of the man outside, I asked what the price was for an extra order of fries..$4.50 was a bit much considering I only brought in enough cash to pay for my food. I told them about the gentleman outside and was going to ask that they put my fries to the side for him. The nice lady, Emily Rose, told Marcos Morales to send for an order of half a chicken instead; on the house. I didn't expect that gesture at all. I expressed my gratitude and took the meal to the gentleman outside. Marcos said, "It's the least we can do." I'm not saying come here expecting free food. Char grilled chicken! Charbroiled chicken! This place rocks! What we ordered: 1 char grilled chicken ~comes with: Rice Refried beans Salad Grilled jalapeno Tortitas Chicken burrito ~ all the sides minus the tortias Grilled boneless skinless chicken breast ~ all the sides Grilled steak gordita Pico de gallo Guacamole Chips Wow! 42 bucks! This place is quite flavorful. ~ I place heavy value on Mexican places rice and beans. I figure if the place can't pull off tasty beans and rice ~ I can't trust them. And this place passed the test. The beans were lightly spicy and had a nice thick consistency with a few whole beans in the mix. The rice was flavorful ~ a tad greasy ~ but good nevertheless. The chicken burrito was shredded stewed meat ~ which is not my fancy The grilled chicken breast was seasoned well. The chopped steak was okay. Maybe the strip would have been better ~ maybe next time. The absolute banger was the char-grilled chicken! Wonderfully seasoned a touch dry ~ but easily overlooked by the sheer amount of flavor. I ordered through Grub Hub at around 4 PM and the site said that it would be delivered latest 5:15pm. The restaurant right away accepted the order and were working on it. 5:15 comes along and its still not here. OK i'll give it some time. 5:44 comes around and I decide to call the restaurant. Some lady answers and first tells me they don't do Grub hub. I shook my head in disbelief, LIKE WHAAAAA. What do you mean you don't do grub hub someone at that restaurant accepted my money. She makes me wait on hold and than comes back with "The driver already took your order they should be there soon." Alright girl sure, I'll believe you for now. 20 min later still nothing but an empty stomach and broken dreams. I call again, keep in mind I'm calm as they calm, i get it we're all frustrated and tired cause covid-19 making us all a little crazy (reminder to wash your hands) but this time I tell her that it's been 50ish minutes late and if she could please call the driver so I have an idea of where they are and she proceeds to scold me about how Grub Hub lies about time and that I shouldn't be upset and it'll get there when it gets there. I felt how the smile on my face faded as I came to realize my food would never arrive to me, I would never be able to hold that sweet torta in my hands. I went on to cancel my order. Somebody stop me! Seriously. This is an update to my review of El Pollo Feliz #3. Yeah, it is June 19 and I have been to EPF twice since June 8. I have a problem. See, here's the thing: When I find a great place for whatever cuisine I am feeling at the time, I stick with them. I wear the place out until I have satisfied my craving. This is what's happening with EPF. My second visit on June 14, I got what I was supposed to get on June 8 - the char-broiled chicken platter. The half chicken was marinated to perfection and then char-broiled just the same. And of course you get the grilled onions sitting on top, then the refried beans and rice and salad and FRIES! It's just so much food, but it's so flavorful. My third visit on June 17 (don't judge me!!), I got the Tampiqueno Platter - please forgive me if I spell this wrong, don't have the menu in front of me. It comes with a flavorful and tender strip steak, an enchilada and guac. Plus all the fixings mentioned above. EPF serves up some tasty and authentic Mexican food. I am a huge fan of this place. The service is friendly and efficient. Now, I have to work on NOT going back this weekend. Seriously, somebody stop me. read more

Giant platters of food! Good food! The famous char broiled chicken was a touch dry, but this was barely noticed with the plethora of condiments to make tacos or just mush it around your plate all together. The ubiquitous salsa and chips is a cut above only the greatest taquerias in the land, a chunky smokey roasted poblano, a piquant chile de arbol was the perfect accent to the Skirt steak. Then there is also the tomatillo/avocado salsas verde, citrisy and spicy. There are also pickled vegetables, although I found them to be a bit large, hard and oily, not bad just not up to par with my favorites. The roasted chicken (Pollo Asado) is a 1/2 chicken rubbed with chile powder and other spices, it has some crispy edges and as mentioned above was a little dry. It was served with some amazing beans, a decent rice, big chunks of roasted onion, jalapeno, cucumber, tomato and rice. Tortillas were served on the side and if you can't make a great taco from this platter you deserve to starve to death. The skirt steak (Arachera) was packed with flavor, lime and chile a slightly pleasant saltiness was well matched with any of the aforementioned salsa, I particularly enjoyed the chile de arbol. The meat while being plentiful and flavorful, was a bit tough. Service was very good for this price point. After giving my order to the waitress she grabbed something from her lapel and spoke into it, her voice echoing from the large open kitchen, this caught me a bit off guard, but our food was brought out shortly thereafter. With so many great Mexican choices in the neighborhood I may not be back anytime soon, but as far as chicken goes this place leads the pack. read more
