We enjoyed the food and ordered a nice bottle of wine with our supper. The meal started with onion rings, crisp coating with tender onions, served with ranch and ketchup. The next was a bit boring green salad, the lettuce was limp, and the blue cheese dressing did not taste of tangy cheese. Main meals were fried chicken with pan gravy, sirloin steak, and rib tips. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we truly had leftovers for our pups. Our waitress was very nice and efficient. The very casual dining setting is not a reflection of the good food. At first we were sure what to expect (the place is ginormous) but when we walked in their friendly staff greeted us and sat us quickly at a comfortable table for four biker men, haha. The menu was varied and super choices. I was eating light (delicious cheese burger and salad) because of being on the road but my buddies (Jeff and Alan) did not. I was a little underwhelmed when we pulled up, and the hostess was as-pleasant-as-required to begin the experience, but when we sat down and started looking at the menu, I almost started laughing. The person who wrote the menu needs a raise, stat - it's hilarious. I ordered a chicken-fried steak and onion rings, and my colleagues ordered a chicken-fried chicken entree, and a steak respectively. When our food came out, it was AWESOME! This place nails it! I didn't know what I was in for when some friends invited us to go here for lunch but it surpassed all my expectations. They had a wide selection of specials that all sounded amazing but I had a craving from a Swiss mushroom burger so I ordered that. Believe me when I tell you they do not skimp on their ingredients. The pile of mushrooms was as thick as the burger they sat on. And they did something I have never seen before, the cooked the button mushrooms whole! Not sliced, not from a can, whole button mushrooms! And they were cooked down perfectly with tremendous flavor. Add to that that you are in cattle country and they use fantastic beef and you are in for a fantastic burger. And then the fries, I don't know what to call them, they are spiral cut but not like curly fries, they are sort of like ribbon cut like at a fair but not thin like that so they aren't like glorifies chips, they still have that fluffy French fry center. I have honestly never had fries like them before. Add to that the waitstaff was friendly and attentive and it was a great meal. Oh my goodness. I am truly speechless with how incredible my meal was at Peppermill but I will do my best to explain via this review so you can all taste the amazing food I had tonight! I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. It came out PERFECTLY. Literally melted in my mouth. It was seasoned with only salt and pepper and had some butter but needed nothing else. It came with a side salad and a side. I opted for the rice side option which was okay but chose to add on the buttery mushrooms and those were incredible as well. If you like mushroom, get these! My colleague also had this dish and he said this is probably the best filet mignon he has ever had (I would agree). We also tried the carrot cake for dessert (sounds like dessert options change often so ask the server what is available) and it was great! Not too sweet, a little gingery and a great way to end the meal. I am STUFFED! But it was 100% worth it. We stopped at the Peppermill for dinner on a Friday night. The place was hopping and there was a 30 minute wait. The staff was friendly and greeted us promptly. After our wait, we sat down at our table and within a couple minutes, our friendly server was asking for our drink orders. LOVE that! We aren't from the area so had no idea about the beer selections. Our server made some recommendations based on our typical taste in beer. Our drinks arrived in a timely manner and were great. Just what we needed after a long day on the road. We placed our food order for Steakhouse Hot Beef, Chicken Fried Chicken (I know, I was in beef country), and a Chicken Bacon Ranch Sándwich. All of the portions were HUGE and everything was absolutely delicious. My husband's Hot Beef was as big as his head (which is quite large) and my Chicken Fried Chicken with white gravy was super crispy and flavorful. My daughter really enjoyed her Chicken Bacon Ranch Sándwich and cleaned her plate. To be completely transparent, there were a couple of small things that didn't go great. First, our server didn't enter our appetizer order so we never got it. Not terrible though since we had so much food with our entrées. Second, it took quite a while for our server to run our credit card. Neither of these things was significant enough to lower my rating from 5 stars. If you are looking for some great down home cooking, this is your place. No fuss, no muss, just darn good food, drinks and service. The owner tracked us down in the restaurant we ended up at, he came over to our table and apologized for the misunderstanding. We were so each less. Family came here for dinner after a long day of driving on our way back from our first trip to Yellowstone and were thankful for a place close to our hotel where we could unwind. Ordered a steak with a salad and the meat was done medium rare with just the right amount of seasoning added. The salad was a generous amount. I really appreciated having options that didn't involve a lot of potato. The other family members tried the prime rib, Jim Harrison pork belly sandwich, Cobb and kabob. I had a taste of the pork belly and prime rib and came away impressed with both! The only thing I tried that I wasn't excited by was the mule which was decent but a little weak in flavor (I was charged the stronger dose price so not sure if that changed the flavor profile). Seating was fast! Ordering was a little slow but they were pretty busy. Wait time on food was super fast. Only thing is I would want at least 10-15mins in between apps and main courses. Had thee best service ever, as we have had every time we have stopped here. But, when we asked the owner if we could plug our diesel truck in and we needed an extension cord, he looked at us like we were nuts... not to mention looked a little pissed when he realized that we were towing a huge gooseneck trailer taking up half of the small parking lot. We were visiting the area and one of us had the fried fish dinner, which was very plentiful and yummy. The other was the barbecued brisket. The first time it came out was cold. I told the waitress she responded quickly to replace the whole meal with hot food. The brisket was really tender and flavorful, and the waitress was a wonderful server. We ate in the restaurant area,. There are not many windows. It is darker than I typically like in a restaurant. Reminds me of some old time, supper clubs in northern Wisconsin. I was in Valentine for the Sandhills Marathon this past weekend. The Peppermill peaked my interest judging by the yelp reviews. I was underwhelmed by my experience. The service was great. My friend's meal was very tasty. I ordered the peanut butter whiskey burger because you are in the heart of cattle country. It was a thin patty so no opportunity to get it cooked any other way than well. The aggressive peanut butter sauce didn't have much peanut butter flavor at all. It was more spicy than anything else. I'm guessing that was the whiskey but there wasn't much of that flavor either. I was disappointed. Would I go back? Sure! Just to try something else on the menu. I'm not a person to pick and bitch about little things. True 3 star experience. read more

I ordered the grilled chicken cordon bleu sandwich, it was really good, but when the server delivered my plate, she states, "oh I need to tell you the sandwich has a bone in it", this I found very odd, I ate one half of and saved the rest for a river trip the next day. I packed the half sandwich, and when I got hungry, I pulled out the sandwich from my cooler and began to eat it, I bite into a bone (I had forgotten about) and when I dissected the breast meat I pulled out a humerus bone! That was a very off putting discovery and I threw that half away. I don't feel this is proper preparation and cooking technique for a grilled breast. I had to pick between the prime rib and Heart City Strip. I went with the strip and it was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Big and thick. Really perfect. The other elements of the meal were a nice house salad and incredibly great mash potatoes and gravy. Earlier this week I ate at a hipster gastropub in Omaha. Peppermill was half as much but twice as good. My only complaint is that the granite around the faucet in the men's room needs to be cleaned along with the hardware. read more

It was as I remembered cooked to perfection and fork tender...which was a good thing, as I think the steak knives were the dullest possible pieces of steel ever in a restaurant. I just had a fantastic meal here! The filet was perfectly grilled as I ordered it medium rare to medium! The baked potato was great with it. I had the salad and house made ranch dressing which was also great. I enjoyed a glass of Merlot chosen by our waiter, Bryan, who is very friendly! I appreciate his awareness of gluten free too. My steak was full of gristle and just not a good steak. I am a cattle rancher and know a good steak. This was not a good steak at all. Service was slow. In the end we got billed the tip for an "over 8" party even though we sat at 2 tables of 6 on opposite ends of dining area. We have ate at PM off and on for over 20 years. We brought some friends who have never ate here before for a good experience. It wasn't a good experience. This place continues to get worse as time goes on. I didn't want to waste my money on an expensive mediocre steak, so I went with the chicken fried steak...something that I am very familiar with, having grown up in the south, with Georgia and Texas grandmothers and parents who know how to make chicken fried steak. The Peppermill chicken fried steak was just meh. But it was a meh CFS that cost me $16. Service was average; not great, not bad. Just average. Second time I've ever been here. I came 2 years ago with my Mom. Mainly stopped today because it's a Passport stamp for NE Passport this summer. I also knew the husband would like it. He got some blonde beer that he just guzzled. He loved it. I got a raspberry lemonade. They put the syrup in first, THEN the lemonade so it didn't mix well, but tasted good.
