Grand Opening Ellenton Farmer's Market - June 13, 2009…read more What separates the Ellenton Farmers' market from others is its singular commitment on the environment. The Ellenton Farmers' Market will focus on "green" natural, agricultural-based products where farmers, vendors and community come together in support of economy, local residents, health and our environment. The Ellenton Farmers' Market will host vendors that offer everything from all natural, fresh produce, fresh baked and processed foods, services, products and an eco-village to educate customers on water conservation, the use of less toxic cleaning products, composting to energy-saving strategies, supporting environmental organizations and ways to help create a greener, more sustainable community. The Ellenton Farmers' Market will be a year round market, held on Saturday mornings in the Town of Ellenton. The grand opening will be on June 13, 2009. It is located just off I-75 in the parking lot of the Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex, north of Prime Outlet Mall. The market will be open to customers from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The market has the capacity to host up to one-hundred (100) vendors with ample parking. The market will become a gathering place for nonprofits, government agencies and benevolent organizations to offer services to shoppers. Every year new ideas are introduced to help the citizens become more connected to their community such as the Master Gardener program, voter registration, food collection and cash donations to the homeless shelter and Red Cross blood drives and Boy Scout fund-raising to name a few. The staff here was extremely friendly I'm sure a lot of the customers are locals that frequently stop in by the sounds of the laughter and the conversations going on as they checked out. I got a laugh after seeing a small section marked "scratch and dent", theses items were marked up to 50% off, these are a variety of items that are a little bruised or ripe to the point you'd want to use them right away. I was hoping to see a cow, a horse, a pig or a chicken but I guess they were all working out in the fields like most farms everyone has to pull their weight. I didn't find anything today unfortunately but enjoyed the walk-through, this is the real deal...

Most we're ready to eat and good for freezing but luckily I mentioned that my daughter loves crunchy mangoes so they brought out freshly picked and still very hard Keitts. Those lasted a few days but we're awesome to eat green and crunchy. Will def be back to check out more produce and fruits. GPS to farm is spot on. Lots of parking space. Owners were lovely and very accommodating.
