ABSOLUTELY THE BEST BURGER EVER!!! In town for Memorial Weekend and we hit all the local stuff. Kayaking, golfing and food. On the day we were actually leaving, we were in search of breakfast and since we'd already hit up the local recommendations we decided to throw a bone to place we really hadn't heard of. Peppers is located in The Marriot and we got there at about 8:45. The breakfast menu was limited and I wasn't feeling the selection. My girl ordered the breakfast burrito and loved it (5 ). I asked our server if he would ask the chef if he would mind making me a burger. Server came back and said that the cook was ok with it. So I ordered a double cheeseburger, medium with all the fixings. IT WAS HANDS DOWN THE BEST BURGER EVER, so far lol It tasted fresh off the grill like the old school barbecue hangout burger. Perfectly seasoned, the cheese was perfectly melted evenly. I don't know if this is a common allowance for the breakfast time, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

This restaurant is at the Marriott Courtyard, Page. Everything was just ok. Talk about bad food in England, how come no one talks about bad food in Northern Arizona. The Mash potatoes were cold, but the pork chops were great. The blackened chicken was mediocre. The salad was ok. I guess we can't be too picky in Page. The service was great, the chefs need to improve their skills and care to make Page a really great vacation destination. Loved Lake Powell, Horse shoe bend, Rainbow Bridge and the slot canyons. Internet and cell service could be improved tremendously as well.

This restaurant has the cleanest silverware and glasses that I have ever seen. Very clean place! Thumbs up to this restaurant

Walking into Birdhouse, a converted drive-through restaurant, at 6PM, we were greeted with a short…read moreline wrapping around the order counter. It moves pretty quickly since the menu, full of fried chicken and staple sides, isn't too complicated. Birdhouse is a counter service establishment so the food doesn't take very long at all to cook and assemble. In our case it took only about 10 minutes. Thigh + Leg, Original ($11) - Instead of the advertised thigh and leg, the meal came with 3 pieces of chicken - one leg and 2 thighs! It wasn't just us; I saw other customers also getting three pieces. Finally a restaurant that underpromises and overdelivers! The breading on the chicken is a really dark golden brown, initially making me assume it was overfried. Biting into the breading, a really strong crunch shatters on the teeth. It's a hard crunch vs. the crisp that a normal fried chicken skin exhibits. Perhaps they enhance the mixture with rice flour and evercrisp? It's really quite amazing especially with how thin the breading looks. Even with the dark color, the interior remains moist and juicy; in fact, upon my first bite, a stream of chicken juice shot up onto my glasses! The meat has clearly been brined as it's super flavorful, and there's plenty of salt and pepper mixed into the breading to add even more oomph. The fat is rendered nicely and everything is served piping hot. They really know what they are doing with their chicken! A meal comes with one side of which we went with the Seasoned Fries. These are crinkle cut fries sprinkled with seasoning salt. The fry level isn't the most even, with some pieces being a little more dried out, but most still having tender interiors. I'd probably go with a different side in the future. (5/5) Thigh + Leg, Honey Butter ($11) - I believe this is literally the same fried chicken but with honey butter melted over the top. It adds some richness and sweetness, but is otherwise the same excellent fried chicken. For the side with this meal, we went with the Broccoli Salad w/ Bacon. It's pieces of crunchy raw broccoli mixed with tiny pieces of bacon in a light creamy dressing with a bit of sweetness. (5/5) Birdhouse makes their sauces in house which they supply for most orders. The first is their special honey mustard which, as the name implies, is sweet and mustardy. The second is a buttermilk ranch, creamy and tangy. It's very fresh and seems to have fresh herbs mixed in. After several days eating bland (but very fresh!) food in the Navajo Nation, we finally had a meal with actual seasoning! We were impressed enough that we went back the next day to try the final chicken flavor. This time it was earlier at 5PM and for some reason the line was even longer! Yet it took less than 5 minutes for the food to arrive. Thigh + Leg, Spicy ($11) - The base chicken is the same texture and flavor as above. The only difference is a liberal dusting of cayenne pepper spice mixture on top. They don't use any hot oil, so it's only dry spice on the outside, applied right after frying so it all sticks on. The powder is spicy enough to heat up the mouth and lips, but isn't enough to get me sweating at all. I'd compare to something between mild and medium at a hot chicken shop. There's just a hint of sweetness in the mixture - I actually wished it was boosted up a bit more. Still great fried chicken though! (5/5) Birdhouse really serves some great fried chicken. Reasonably priced, delicious food, great portions, there's not much more I could ask for. It was so good that we ended up eating here both nights we stayed in Page! Bathrooms - Single unisex room outside on the back side of the restaurant.

We decided on Gone West Family Restaurant based on their solid reviews and we thought that American food (especially with a Western theme) would be the way to go. When in Rome! We stopped by on a Saturday evening for dinner. Parking is easy in the complimentary lot they share with several other businesses including a Chinese restaurant right next door. Ambiance (4.5/5): Pretty much what I was hoping for. Gone West is a spacious restaurant with one large dining room and another large dining room. The difference? The one in the back has a stage where they play live music. So, if you want a quieter atmosphere, choose the first room. If you want to enjoy some live music while you dine and drink, choose the back room. We sat in the back room. A band played various covers while we were there which we enjoyed. The decor is also awesome with a lot of Western and country decor including John Wayne, Johnny Cash, and more. Service (4/5): The hostess was super nice and accommodating which was a nice way to kick off the experience. Our waiter was pretty solid. He could have stopped by a little more frequently, but overall, did quite well. Drinks (4/5): I went with an Arnold Palmer (they only had pink lemonade unfortunately) so not a lot to right home about. With that being said, they have a decent beer list and several cocktails. Food (5/5): I went with the Chicken fried steak sandwich with spiral fries. CFS on a sandwich?! I couldn't say no. Country fried steak is one of my favorite Southern dishes, but I've never had it on a sandwich before. Check out their concept: breaded steak on a bed of mashed potatoes topped with green onions, gravy, and a fried egg with your choice of side. This was a great sammie! It was quite messy, but given how delicious it was, I didn't mind. The fries were delicious too, and it was a generous portion. The type of portion where you can easily have leftovers. Everything I was hoping for and more in this dining experience. While the food options in Page aren't vast (and as impressive as larger cities), Gone West should be at the top of your list!

Food arrived quick, server was friendly...but disappointing across the board on the meal. Two kids got burgers, hard and lacked flavor. One got bbq pork, just didn't taste great. The country fried steak sandwich had hopes...and honestly may have been the best of what we had. We had all 3 types of fries, each underwhelming - but sweet potato fries probably the best. For the price, food needed to be better. And then took forever to get check to cash out.

Went inside and to the bar where we were acknowledged by "looking for the menu, it's up above" and sure enough it is affixed to the wall above the bar. I gave my order to the husband while I went to the lady's restroom. The lady's restroom was clean and orderly with 2 stalls and sufficient supplies. Husband says the same or similar regarding the men's room. Came back and went to the table the husband had picked out. I went over and then veered to the condiments bar. Picked up napkins, plastic silverware, mayo and mustard. Husband had ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries for him and a salad plus chicken for me. Each agreed to glasses of water. Husband said the fella behind the bar was a nice young guy. Visited just a bit, then the food was brought to us. The burger looked good as well as the fries. Not sure if the husband didn't want catsup or if it wasn't available. The salad was filling and good with lettuce, a small bit of diced red onion, quite a bit of diced celery, and some tomato atop a bed of ribbon sliced lettuce. We ate and looked around, we couldn't see the chef and the bartender had gone to deliver drinks to a people on the outdoor deck. Oddities: 2 salad dressings avail: Ranch or Italian? Cheese on salad was chopped sandwich/burger type. Overall: Limited menu with the basics of what you'd want to quickly grab - burger, a couple sandwiches with a wrap option, chips or fries, and this garden salad. People we encountered were not friendly nor unfriendly, we were unknowns in the golf clubhouse. It was all even toned ride while we rode the wave. All was cool.

We shared calamari and we are calamari snobs. I wasn't expecting anything great but it really, really was. The crunchy (fresh?) batter was cooked perfectly crispy and the squid meat was not tough. They served it on top of sliced pepperocini, which we kept using throughout the meal. The sauce was delicious too. Now any chef/cook can have an off day, but if the oil is the right temp and they stick to a prescribed fry time, you should experience the same great result. My husband had the Reuben, and he is a Reuben snob. The thickly julienned corned beef made for a little bit of messy eating, but he said it was good. His sweet potato waffle fries were crisp and not too sweet. They stayed crisp throughout the meal. I believe these were frozen but they chose a great product to offer for one of their sides. No shame in a good, coated, crisp, frozen sweet potato waffle fry. I had the desert dipper (French dip to many of us.) It was topped with sauteed mushrooms and onions and the aus jus was really delicious. Not too salty and with a rich flavor without being oily. Again, a product which I would be shocked it if wasn't purchased, but they made a great choice! It doesn't rely on salt, which many chefs turn to to cover less-than-stellar food. My side was a side salad. Mixed mesclun lettuces (with the occasional wilted, icky looking leafs) that made either this batch of lettuce one day past it's prime or needed to be gone through a little closer. The salad was topped with a generous portion of very fresh cucumbers, carrot shreds, cherry tomatoes, cheese and croutons. I was pleased with the overall quality and presentation of that simple side salad. In our previous trip my husband had the quite-curated turkey sandwich and he said it was very good. I just had the truffle Parmesan fries which, like the waffle fries, were crispy and very good

Created around 1864 by the Navajo people using the meager ingredients given to them by the US Government at the time. The bread quickly spread to other tribes throughout the country, and is usually just referred to as "fry bread," but in AZ it's always preceded by the prefix "Navajo." My first encounter with it was in a church parking lot at San Xavier del Bac (aka The White Dove of the Desert), where Native Americans had food stands selling fresh fry bread topped with honey and cinnamon-sugar, as well as savoury toppings like ground beef, lettuce and tomatoes in what's popularly referred to as a Navajo Taco. Fast forward to our recent trip to Page, and we stopped into a little restaurant called Steer 89. It came recommended by a local--and I always take local recs seriously. While perusing the menu they had an item called a Navajo Burger ($15) and my curiosity was piqued. Essentially it's a giant hamburger sandwiched between two fry bread "buns," and I really have to say it was easily the most unique thing I've had all year. The burger itself was terrific, as it was seasoned well, had good beefy flavor and cooked expertly. And it was "run through the garden" with all the veggie accoutrements I demand. The hand-cut fries were also a treasure to behold and were everything a fry should be: fluffy, yet crisp and just a bit overly-salted. Of course, we had to get a Navajo Taco ($12), as well, and it too lived up to the hype of the originals I'd had in that church parking lot. While it was nothing fancy, this was probably one of my favorite meals we had on our recent trip and definitely worthy of multiple repeat visits next time we're in the area.

The navajo taco is basically a piece of the navajo bread, which is a thicker, chewier, airier flatbread topped with taco toppings you'd expect from a taco bell, things like shredded lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, onions and chili. The navajo taco was pretty good if you came in expecting that. It is pretty much an american taco with navajo bread. Overall not an interesting find, but nothing too spectacular or mind blowing.
