I have a very complicated case, and she always takes that into account when she's fitting me for new glasses. Last year I went to another local optometrist office. Instead of waiting a week or two for her, I got this other appointment fairly quickly. That should have been a clue. This other doctor didn't bother to actually change my RX for new glasses after I sat through the exam. I got the new glasses but I was wondering, why can't I see? So I went back and the doctor basically said they thought the new RX would be too strong for me, so they kept it the same. WHAT? Why would I come in? For a new set of groovy frames??? I had to get the glasses remade and it took like another month. And they weren't very good even then. Absolutely ridiculous. Don't be a dummy and go elsewhere. Dr Allison really is exceptional. I'm grateful for her skill and her care. Thanks, Glendale Optometry!

She was incredibly thorough in testing my vision and took the time to get everything just right. She recommended separate single-vision lenses for reading, and that made a huge difference. My new Zeiss progressive lenses are noticeably better than my previous pair...much sharper and crystal clear. Much thanks to Dr. Park and David for their excellent care and service!

SHANDRA at the front desk was professional, smart and helpful. DR. LIN removed the object, examined eye, prescribed eye drops & stated that my eye would heal within 10 days. She was correct, eye healed. Grateful for Dr. Lin! While waiting for me my husband shopped the huge variety of glasses and found several pairs he liked. The location was super easy access, the reception area was warm, clean and welcoming. Exceptional experience, we will be back. NOTE: Based on the low star drawn-out reviews, here's my takeaway: We were never upsold on anything, overcharged for anything, our insurance coverage was accepted and we would not expect any free service or returns. Two reviews had multiple previous "bad experiences?"..So why go back? Expired warranties are not valid, and office staff are highly trained to ID manufacturing defects as opposed to breakage by other sources.

(one with a lost contact prescription, one upset about getting pressured to buy frames) I wanted to support a local small business so I came here to get my lenses updated. One of the employees was helping swap lenses from a broken pair of glasses to my new frames, was unsuccessful, and damaged my brand new frames (that I purchased elsewhere and brought in) in the process. The owner was too busy pressuring me to buy new frames despite me saying over, and over, and OVER again that I don't need new frames. When I brought up the damage they caused, the store owner was indignant and said it was my own fault for authorizing them to work on it. For a simple service, I wasn't expecting such a chaotic atmosphere in the store and such rude service from the owner. It's really a shame. Edit: I had a good laugh reading all the 1 and 2 star reviews hidden just below the sight line. Dr. Kim is, by all accounts, a menace to Montrose. One good thing to come from this is I was so frustrated that I purchased my own optometry equipment and learned to adjust my own glasses. Rewarding!

I wonder why my experience wasn't like all the five-star raves here, because honestly, this person…read moredoes NOT deserve that. To preface: I understand if an optometrist suspects something, they refer you to an ophthalmologist. That's normal. I also understand nerves can look "questionable," and I'm fine with being referred. In fact, I loved the ophthalmologist I ended up seeing. What bothers me is the sketchy way this all went down, which left me with a very suspicious gut feeling. First off, the "exam room" was basically a long storage closet with old papers stacked everywhere, a chair, and i actually think it was the closet -- just fully not a professional medical office. It felt dirty and disorganized, 100% total opposite of every other optometrist I've ever seen. First red flag. Then during the exam (not dilated), he kept making "hmm...uhhh..." noises while looking through his lens. When I asked what was wrong, he literally said: "When I look at your eye, I SEE GLAUCOMA." I was shocked. I had just turned 40 three months ago, have zero family history, and every other optometrist has told me my nerves looked healthy -- one even showed them on a big screen and called them "healthy nerve examples." I told him this and he replied, "Well, glaucoma can show up later," then added I "may need" laser treatment -- even though when he finally did a pressure test, it was normal. If my nerves looked suspicious, fine -- just say that and refer me. But declaring "I see glaucoma" without proof, without even explaining what glaucoma even is, was just so beyond unprofessional and unnecessarily frightening. ok SO the BIGGEST red flag: he insisted that I ONLY SEE HIS "friend" in Culver City, and (i am literally quoting him verbatim) "no ophthalmologists in Pasadena or this area are any good." Excuse me? We live in Los Angeles -- one of the biggest cities in the world, with UCLA, USC, and countless world-class specialists -- not the middle of nowhere. Meanwhile, I'm sitting in this dude's gross closet of an office, thinking, "Does he not see where he's practicing? He expects me to trust this??" The irony was laughable if it hadn't been so alarming. Finally, despite acing my vision test, he told me I needed low-grade glasses. At checkout, the staff kept tacking on add-ons I didn't ask for ("blue light $60, anti-reflection $30, another $30..."), and I walked out $80 poorer for glasses I didn't need. I left in shock and immediately called my mom and brother (both MDs), who were just as stunned. I refused to call his "friend" and instead went to a reputable ophthalmologist my brother recommended. That doctor did a full workup with multiple scans, tests, and dilation, and told me my optic nerves are completely healthy -- just naturally a bit larger than average. He also confirmed I DO NOT need glasses. So this optometrist was the ONLY one who's ever told me I "have glaucoma." To me, it felt like fear tactics and upselling, and taking advantage of a woman he assumed was naïve. My advice: do NOT go here. If you're told something serious, get a second opinion from a board-certified ophthalmologist before you spend money or agree to treatment.

My experience tells me before you prescribe the lens, make sure to double check the price and how…read moreare they going to charge you. I got an eye allergy in Nov and came in to check my eyes. So doctor assumed this might be caused by my current contact lens. He recommended of using a pair of weekly contacts instead of my current monthly contacts since I don't wear it that much. I fellow through and scheduled another appointment for a new pair of weekly contact 2 months later in Jan. Here is what got me frustrated... I came in and thought I can just try this pair of contact and pay for this pair of contact only since this is a new trial and I don't have vision insurance. I also just did my eye check up in Nov for my eye allergy. However, this is not what I've expected. He said he is a business man. He can't just give me the trial contact lenses to try on. Also based on the California law, I have to start over my eye exam every once a year. And my prescription has been expired in June so I have to redo it again. WTH!! I never heard that I have to do the eye exam each year and the prescription can ONLY last for an year?!! And when I looked up online, the prescription can last up to 2 years. Anyway, good thing I asked in more details before doing everything else. I walked out this eye center at last and decide to prescribe a new pair of contact from Costco instead. While I am having no insurance coverage for vision, there is no point for me to pay another eye exam AGAIN in cash + a new pair of contact lenses to try. This is not a right a way for doing business. That's truly a ripped off.

I'm an aging guy, on a limited budget, who went from decades of scraping by with non-prescription…read morereaders to finally accepting that I needed four pairs of specialized prescription glasses--for reading, for sitting in front of computers for hours on end, and for distance both indoors and outdoors (sunglasses). After resisting wearing glasses for so long, and, let's face it, being a little vain, I wasn't a good candidate for progressives despite the practical and economic considerations. Trying to wrap my head around an expanding universe of frames and lenses in every shape and price range after being so resistant for so long was overwhelming. I'd gone to all the usual suspect shops in Old Town Pasadena, where parking is always a challenge, as is finding a knowledgeable and caring employee working on an hourly wage, without coming close to making a purchase. One day I was driving down Colorado Boulevard, stopped at a light, when I spied Brighter Optical and its spacious, free parking lot. I'd never heard of the shop, but thought why not, I might as well give it a shot. I was warmly greeted by owner Raymond Yu himself. I immediately felt comfortable in his small but well-stocked shop. Then I was immersed in a lengthy consultation with someone who had unlimited patience for my long list of questions, who spoke in soothing tones that put me even more at ease. It was so much better talking to an owner with a lifetime of experience and the ability to negotiate multiple purchases than an hourly employee with no real stake in the outcome. Not only did Raymond know everything there was to know about frames and lenses, he knew how to break it all down into easily digestible concepts that I could grasp even though English is just one of the languages he speaks fluently. Better yet, he filtered all that knowledge into personalized recommendations which rang so true I had no qualms about pulling the trigger on the sale. When the dust settled, Brighter Optical had a customer for life, while I came away with four pairs of flattering glasses for every purpose that exceeded the most fervent hope I had for my budget--and a new friend.

Every year, I'd get my eye exam elsewhere, uploaded my prescription and placed my order with Warby…read more I have ordered contacts from Warby back in 2020/2021 and the subsequent years just glasses from them because it was faster to get my contacts directly from my optometrist. I've been very pleased with their glasses. However, this year I decided to have my eye exam with Warby (Pasadena location). It was a huge mistake. Prior to the exam, the technician gathered basic information and then took digital retinal images (six total). Then I had my eye exam with the doctor. The retinal images were not reviewed or discussed during the exam and I forgot to ask about them. That's not how it should be done. At all of previous eye exams, my optometrist always review the retinal images with me regarding my eye health. Anyways, the doctor said my vision hasn't changed so my prescription will be the same. So they checked me out and I placed my contacts order too. A few days later the contacts arrived and that's when I discovered the contacts don't match my current prescription (expired January 2026). Instead, they match the prescription from 2020/2021. The new contacts I received is based off of a prescription from 2020/2021. Warby only has my contacts prescription from 2020/2021, which I had uploaded back then to order contacts. Since then the newer prescriptions that they have on record are for glasses only. It appears that from this eye exam with Warby, they simply created a new prescription based off of my 2020/2021 prescription. All the numbers (lens power, etc.) are identical. Warby gave me an old and wrong prescription and the imaging was never even discussed and refusing to issue a refund.
