We stopped in here more out attrition and being starving while we were looking for our standard off the beaten path place. The food was decent and the wine was good as well. But it is touristy and more of a chain type of place. The same company owns 13 restaurants in Italy. While they did have pasta that was not dried it was made off site en-mass and trucked to the restaurant. This is fine and much better than dried, but I was hoping for a place that made their pasta on site in the back. The service was quick and friendly as well. This is a great little place to enjoy a nice dinner! My parents and I ate here after a long day touring the Vatican since it's just a short walk from the museums. It wasn't busy at all when we went in so we were seated immediately. The ambiance and service was great, as well as their drinks and most of all the food. First trip to Rome, this place is a MUST!!! My husband and I came here twice during our stay. We wish we could've tried their entire menu. First off, I'd like to say that EVERYTHING we had was sorprentende! First dinner, we had grilled squid for appetizer, my husband had the lasagna, and I had penne ai quattro formaggi. Second dinner, we had grilled sea bass for appetizer, my husband had the rigatoni alla Perdincibacco, and I had the rigatoni alla gricia (for dessert get the torta di mascarpone). Service was great! But come before 7:30p as it gets packed after that on any day of the week. Hands down the best restaurant we went to. read more

My friends and I were frantically trying to find a place to eat near the Vatican City when we found this place! It's just a jot south of the Vatican and super accessible. The food is authentic and delicious which is good considering the number of tourist traps that surround it. I ate the Cacio e Pepe which is spaghetti with pepper and cheese, a light simple delicious staple of Italian cuisine. This place was the first time I tried it and I fell in love. Another wonderful thing about this place is the restroom. Finding a bathroom with toilet paper is a hit or miss in Italy. Not only is this place well stocked but it is immaculately clean and pleasant. The prices were a little high compared to other establishments in Rome, but it wasn't ridiculous. read more

Great service, amazing prices and quality delicious food. We had the lasagna and the carbonara and both were great although you have to keep in mind that pasta is supposed to be "al dente". It wasn't too al dente for my U.S./Cuban palate but my husband would have liked it softer. All in all... great find! read more

Had planned on going to pizza zizza next door due to some recommendations, but the line was long and we were hungry so we came here instead. I was very happy that we did. I got a gorgonzola pizza with I believe some orange marmalade and some other toppings. It was delicious! I gave my friend a bite and he said its his favorite bite of our trip in Italy. He got a pasta that was ok, but nothing to write home about. Definitely come here and try their pizza, especially the gorgonzola! read more

The pasta with calamari and shrimp was amazing. Just be prepared to know that the shrimp is not unshelled! Given that it was fried made it edible but a surprise nonetheless. My husband had the rib eye steak and said it was cooked perfectly! Must try is the focaccia. Not like in the US and that's why it was amazing! Oven baked to perfection with charred edges. I loved its! Get the house red wine. Similar to a cab sauv and at 4 euros a liter, amazing! Uncooked pasta, undercooked bacon, bland sauce, wrong drink order, extremely rude - I was really disappointed with this restaurant's service and food. To start off the woman who took my family's (me, my husband, and son) order was extremely rude - It's possible she was an owner. She stared at us impatiently while she took our order, with her head cocked to the side, her eyebrows raised, and her lips pursed. (There was only one other table seated when we arrived, so it wasn't busy, but I felt like we were inconveniencing her as soon as we arrived.) My husband and I both ordered pasta carbonara and my son ordered spaghetti with a tomato sauce. I asked her for house wine, she asked red or white, I said "red" and she brought me white. I let it go. She brought the food out and none of the pasta was cooked all the way through - it was hard in the center. The Carbonara tasted like a bland butter sauce with uncooked bacon in it. The spaghetti my son ordered was so bland, it could have been a can of tomato sauce dumped over uncooked pasta. Because she had been so rude (and my husband and son were so hungry) my husband and son didn't say anything and just ate their food (my son only ate half of the food on his plate). I on the other hand couldn't eat it, so after 1 bite, I didn't touch it. I let my husband and son eat some of their food, and then I took my plate back in the restaurant and told her the pasta wasn't cooked, and I couldn't eat it. She told me that's how they cook pasta in Italy. I've been in Italy for 2 1/2 weeks - and I've only had uncooked pasta twice. It wasn't cooked all the way. She told me it wasn't her fault and talked to her son in Italian, raising her voice, and pointing at me and my family. She EVENTUALLY refunded my money for MY plate (after she gave me a ticket with my plate still on it), but not without yelling at me in Italian first. It's our last day in Italy, and I'm totally disappointed we wasted our money at this restaurant. read more

They get a star for the aforementioned hand written wine list which I thought boded of other good things to come (and of course that is the minimum rating available). But from then on... Absolute fail. Terrible. Worst meal I have ever had in this country. What I would expect to get in a bad Italian restaurant in Boise Idaho run by a failed potato farmer whose experience with Italian cooking consisted of having Domino's pizza once as a kid. Just goes to show you 7 nearly perfect reviews can be dead wrong. Had the grilled squid which had zero grilled flavor much less any grill marks - probably just roasted or broiled. And the squid itself especially the tentacles tasted fishy and old, not fresh at all. The first dish in my numerous trips to Italy EVER that I didn't finish because I simply didn't like it. For il primo I had the risotto al mare. Whoops. Bad call. This dish made me truly embarrassed for the chef. I think the guy from Idaho made this one. I rarely ever get risotto at a restaurant because I feel it has to be made from start to end on the spot and served immediately when finished. Brutal reminder of this last night. Dish was served with liquid in the bottom of the bowl, no velvety creaminess to it whatsoever and the grains were a few minutes shy of proper al dente-ness. Oh and speaking of the rice - hey cooking person in the kitchen: try using ARBORIO rice in your risotto next time. Are you kidding me? This was made with a regular grain white rice I mean cmon man. Shameful. At least use some orzo so us dumb Americans will still be fooled into thinking it's something foreign. Of course I should have returned it but realized the pie was already in my face and I had fallen victim to what is obviously just a tourist trap meant to lure in unsuspecting and unknowledgeable (and over generously reviewing) diners. If there were an Italian restaurant inspector general charged with maintaining the authenticity and quality of their cuisine I would report this place as being a fraud. And deport the chef back to Idaho. Please all Rome visitors go to the Trastevere area to eat it's well worth the time and walk there. No wait don't, you might take my table. read more

I'm not sure if they were having an off night, but our experience here wasn't great. We were seated outside quickly, but then weren't acknowledged for about 20 minutes before the owner came out to take our order. The food was mediocre at best, and I got the dish that the place was named after. We eventually went in and paid at the counter because we couldn't get the waiter to acknowledge us when we were trying to flag him down for the check. read more

The food was ok but the service was terrible. The waitress wasn't friendly and completely ignored us. She kept forgetting our food and seemed annoyed when we would ask for it. As we were sitting, hungry, waiting for our food, she left for a smoke break. She seemed way more attentive to the other customers who spoke Italian. Unexceptional food on a fairly noisy street. Had the polenta, which was dry, the saltambucca, also dry, and the pizza with pears, which was OK but lacked savoriness to balance out the sweetness. Apart from the dog Bruno-a real charmer-the staff was generally inattentive, especially when compared to the welcoming staff at other similarly-priced restaurants nearby.
