TL;DR: Medical staff is the best in the business. Billing staff is incompetent and ruinous. The medical staff is incredible. Life changing medical service. The doctors are compassionate and caring. True physicians. The billing staff is unbearable. I have been a patient with this office for 5+ years. Paid all my bills and copays. They billed the wrong insurance company for MONTHS and then didn't let me know until over a year later. Immediately sent it to the creditors and denied any new appointments. Keep in mind this was all due to an error with their staff. So after my insurance and myself have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in surgeries and appointments they refuse to see me over because of their billing mistake, despite the fact that I STILL HAVE INSURANCE THAT WILL PAY. read more

I paid privately almost $8,000 for both eyes, based on the expectations the doctor set during my consultations. Unfortunately, the results are completely different from what was promised. After the surgery, my vision is terrible. I see everything blurry and foggy, with constant "rings" or halos in my eyes that cause ongoing discomfort. The doctor then said I needed an additional laser procedure, which was performed, but my vision is still very poor. Now I have to wait two more weeks for a follow-up appointment because nothing is available sooner. The customer service is extremely poor: the receptionists are rude and unhelpful, it's nearly impossible to get timely appointments, and the doctors give almost no explanations. The facilities also look dirty, which adds to the distrust. I feel like they are more interested in collecting money (especially from insurance or high private payments) than in taking care of the patient. This experience has left me very nervous and deeply disappointed. My vision is now worse than before the surgery, and I continue to have significant discomfort. I do not recommend this clinic at all. If you are considering refractive surgery here, think twice and get multiple second opinions. read more

People please listen to me,do not go to these two brothers they have put me to near blindness.I came to the clinic because I had Hillsborough County Insurance and I had a stigma in my left eye,well the diagnosed me for dollars and ended up putting two lenses in my eyes and removing cataracts they said well I have never been the same I've lived for 5 years with severe pain eyes watering throbbing etc etc, I did not find out that he should have never touched my left eye it took an optometrist to tell me he should have left that alone anyway I'll be 67 soon in near blind not to mention the pain and suffering I have gone through because of these two they diagnosed me for dollars, for self-gane, so please go to someone else don't risk your eyes like I have done. read more

Last year, at 85 years of age, I was told by the eye doctor during a routine eye-glasses exam that it's time for cataract surgery at both eyes, but that I also have another issue with my right eye: I couldn't see the upper part of the letters. She said I need not only a cataract surgeon but also an MD Ophthalmologist, to check on my right eye. With family help, I started the quest to find the right doctor. The problem was that all cataract surgeons, when they heard about the vision loss on my right eye, they'd refer me to other eye MDs, and I had to start the whole thing again, beginning with scheduling the other appointment, the wait, or worse yet, not accepting my insurance and being back to square one.. I had a really difficult time to find the right doctor. After 8 months, I found myself in a labirint of appointments, doctors, and tests, without much progress made. Until one day, when my daughter, seeing on the internet Perez Eye Center, in Tampa called and because they were accepting my insurance she scheduled me with Dr Ben (Bernard) Perez. At the appointment, I was amazed to see that, learning about my vision loss, Dr Ben went out of the room and shortly came back with the other ophtalmologist MD in the office, Dr Don Perez to look at my right eye (with vision loss)!! During my very first consultation, I was having TWO MEDICAL DOCTORS consulting me, right then and there! I said to myself, Lord, THANK YOU for bringing me to this clinic, to meet these carrying people, passionate to help their patients get healthy fast! Without getting into too many details, in a week I was scheduled to get the field-of-vision test, and a few more -- all so conveniently done, at the same location! After the tests, another meeting with the doctors and we were speaking surgery plans and it all came natural and easy. In just a few days I was able to accomplish more than I did in 8 months! I knew then that this is my last stop. I could not been happier; it felt like a huge weight was lifted off of my chest! (It also helped to learn that each of the two doctors have 25+ years of experience in treating every type of eye-health issues, performing all types of procedures and surgeries, and that Dr Don has extra specialization in Retina and Dr Ben in Cataract surgery. I felt blessed!) At this visit, Dr Don explained the diagnostic (for partial vision loss) in easy to understand words, going into every little detail, spending time and ensuring I and the member of the family who's accompanied me there have all questions answered. Next, with Dr Ben, we discussed the cataract procedure in detail, the types of lenses and why one lens would be a better or worse choice than another, the expectations after the surgery, and also planned ahead for the other (right) eye. Just like Dr Don, Dr Ben is a wonderful person and a very talented and experienced doctor. They are patient and thorough, they are very kind and carrying and make you feel like having a conversation with an old friend. I could not and to this day cannot think of anyone better to have by my side, on my journey to get my eyes healthy again, thsn these two! Sure enough, after a month, on Sept 20, 2023, I was already with my left eye operated on, cataract removed and a brand new, high-end (ALCOR multi-focal Toric -repairing my astigmatism) eye lens on! A minute after the surgery, I was back from sleep! While still in the hospital bed, although was having my left eye covered with a a patch, I felt like a winner. Dr Ben was by my bed, happy and very content. I knew all turned out very well, and indeed it did! I can see exceptionally well with my operated eye! Dr Ben is an excellent cataract surgeon and a very nice and carrying gentleman! As an FYI, Perez Eye Center gives you two options for the surgery location. I chose the Tampa General Hospital. My entire experience, from the moment I decided to get my cataract surgery done, the scheduling, the pre-op and all the steps, plus everyone at Perez International Eye Center (aka Perez Eye Center) and at TGH (incl the anesthesia done by Dr David Clendenin) and of course both Dr Ben and Dr Don (and their staff) - all did an absolutely exceptional job! This year, at 86, I had my right eye cataract surgery done. When I went back for the pre-surgery appointment, it felt like I was among old friends. The surgery went just as expected. I felt very well taken care of, by the same amazing doctors. Each, came by my bed pre-surgery; both were in the operating room; and both were present post-operation. I had the same good experience, and after the surgery, I can see much better than I expected with this eye. I also received the same high quality of care from TGH's staff (incl the anesthesiologist, Dr Lee). I recommend Dr Ben Perez and Dr Don Perez and their staff wholeheartedly. Arrived 25 minutes early for my appointment. I usually do on my first visit as I have to fill up lots of paperwork. My appointment was at 1 PM. My name was called around 1:15 pm and went on the other side. A nurse asked me few questions and the put drops in my eye, took me in another room and start the basic test 'what line can you read"...I could barely see anything with those drops. Once this was done, they bring you in a second waiting room...where you wait and wait and wait. I 2:15 I decided to leave without seeing the doctor. By coincidence, they tell me then that I am the next patient...but I had to understand that they had a lot os patient and on top of if I am a new patient (seriously, new patient should wait longer then other??..I did see patient going before me that arrived after me...now I know why!!!...and )...maybe, but then I was the next patient to be put in a individual room which does not mean the next patient to be seen by the doctor and there is 4 rooms and 2 doctors...so I was supposed to wait there again which I refused too, I asked for my copay back, which they gave me. This place is a Joke. Waited over1 hour to be told II needed to get a full exam as I waited 4 mounts after my exam for a cataract appt. I was told it would be a 3 hour wait as there where 20+ ahead of me. Needless to say, I will never go back there. My minor child has seen here MULTIPLE times for the last 7 yes! she still is going to them. born with eye differences where it has to do with having gray matter Heterotopia where nerves did not form as most as they clumped together in a disarray behind her right eye. I personally wish my insurance was one the accept for I find both of the Opthamologist to be exceptionally knowledgeable in not only the eyes but how different symptoms and "seemingly" other medical issues really all do connect. It was Dr. Don Perez who first noticed there was more than meets the eye which is where the stem roots from. Having this piece of the puzzle known makes a world of difference in one's overall health and wellness. Both talk to us and not just on the eye care but both show the true care in that they talk about how to achieve where a teen should focus, the stressing the importance of self discipline respect responsibilities the sped of life and that true love comes from giving and giving back the best times don't require things they require good people to relax and enjoy experiences with. As well as the value of communication and knowledge. They are simply wonderful humans who take the time to learn each and every day as they earn their living. Which I find this to be outstanding! The down side is many too obviously like them for they are ALWAYs over booked! Since l know this I plan these given appointments accordingly. And I'm supercool with that. I find they are trustworthy in the care they give. Understand they do take you in right away in the rise of something that poses an adversity in your eye care! which causes them to fall behind at times making them to rush about at times too. Which again is something I understand for you too may be the one who needs his help asap meaning the one who makes all others have to sit longer waiting! My child once was at which I'm grateful of too. See she is having the need of treatment do to having high eye pressure as in juvenile glycoma. pretty scary putting eye drops in your child's eye that have not gone thru extensive research pertaining to youth! He took her right in the next morning to ensure me all is still going well in the usage. I wish all her doctors were as good as they so far have proven to be for my child! read more

I've been here multiple times with my son. Dr. Perez is hard not to love. He's super upbeat and energetic. He's also very knowledgeable and takes his time to walk you through everything and make sure that you understand all of the fine details. This is one of the best eye doctors that I have been to whom specializes in all of my son's special vision needs. read more

On October 29, I visited the Perez Eye Center. The technician called me back after I waited over an hour. He started his evaluation by having me count his fingers. I had difficulty seeing his hands as he added and removed fingers for me to count. The technician did not really speak to me. He did not ask for any type of update since my last visit. I was in room for about 5 minutes with no further evaluation at that time. Then, I waited an hour and a half to be placed in a room. Once in the room, I waited another 30 minutes to be seen by Dr. Ben Perez. Dr. Ben Perez is a cataract and refractive specialist. My visual impairment is related to my retina, so I was confused why he was seeing me instead of Dr. Don Perez who I have seen in the past and is a retinal specialist. Once, Dr. Ben Perez entered the room things really went downhill. He was very rude and offensive to me and my vision teacher who accompany me on this visit. He questioned why I used a cane which I need to travel safely. I explained to him I had become extremely sensitive to light. He then proceeded without warning to shine a bright light in my eyes. When I expressed I have been having pain, he immediately assumed it was dry eye instead investigating more. I have been having headaches, which is not related to dry eye. I attempted to explain this but was ignored. I explained I have been having visual blacks out and my vision has really decreased which obvious by my examination with the technician when I could not even see his hands unless they were moving. Dr. Ben Perez proceed to state my condition was moderate, which I and my vision teacher tried to ask how that was possible. He stated my visual acuity was still 20/100 even though I was never tested past the hand movement with a Snellen Chart (the chart with the letters that get smaller), so I do not know how that is possible. My vision teacher who has worked with me since March 2018 even explained she had seen a large amount of visual loss along with other staff who work with me. Dr. Ben Perez stated, "You are disabled and you have to deal with it." Also, he stated I was extremely defiant the whole time, so that is why he couldn't test me which is not true. I tried really hard to give him all the information I could and tried to keep my eyes open when he shown the light in them. It gives me physical pain to have that bright of light in my eyes. I currently can't travel without sunglasses on at all times, but I was apparently defiant. When I tried to advocate and ask more questions, he walked out on me without even telling me. That's a huge issue because I can't see him and my vision teacher had to tell me he left the room. Dr. Ben Perez spent literally 10 minutes in the room with me for a day that took over 3 hours. I am appalled at how he treated me. He made me feel useless. Yes, I am visually impaired, but that does not give him the right to shrug me off. I am trying to learn and keep my eyes as healthy as possible. I brought someone with me to help provide a secondary voice, and he was completely disrespectful to her and her profession. I hope this review deters others from visiting him and this office. It was a disgrace to the ophthalmology profession. read more

I have been to this office multiple times over the past couple weeks as my dear friend has needed a ride to have treatments on her eye. The office is gorgeous and the staff are friendly, however the wait times are absolutely ridiculous. Every time we have come here it has been at least a two hour affair for something as simple as the Doctor taking a quick look at her eye. This is unprofessional and should be fixed promptly. When my friend scheduled her appointment today, we mentioned the insane wait and asked for the earliest possible appointment to avoid this. We were told that our appointment was scheduled for 8:45 AM and that the doctor would see us first as he doesn't arrive at the office until 9:00 A.M. I walked in at 8:40 expecting a mostly empty waiting room and was instead greeted by a nearly seat filled mess. If you want good care but prefer waiting several hours in a waiting room this is the place for you. read more
