Be prepared for long wait times and poor communication. Provided an unexpected diagnosis, with zero details or information. Just asked if I had any questions about something that came totally out of the blue. Wanted to do a procedure with no real explanation. And he completely forgot the reason I had come to him. I said I wanted to research what he was saying. Even other medical professionals said I should get a second opinion. And wait times are ridiculous. I am very happy with the results for my cataract procedure. My eyes were examined thoroughly before Dr. Levitt discuss the findings with me, and the options I had. There was a little wait, while in the office, between tests, and consult, but it was understandable. All staff, and Dr. Levitt took the time to share information with me, and discuss solutions. I have been to this office 3 xs and I will not return. Every time you will have to wait forever. Patients are double and tripled booked. The parking lot is always full. New to the Tampa area, I choose Dr. Levitt after a referral from another physician in the area. His background and training in glaucoma made him a good choice. I had already been diagnosed needing cataract surgery before moving here, but due to timing, could not have it done. I am extremely pleased with my experience. Had both tear duct lasers and cataract surgery on both eyes, with excellent results. Dr. Levitt was very concerned and made me comfortable with the procedures and resolved any questions I had. l appreciate a physician who takes that time. Also his staff was excellent, friendly and competent. I was traveling during this period for work, and they were very accommodating. Very disappointed. I was misdiagnosed by this doctor. After seeing him for several months and after several exams that eventually my insurance no longer covered due to the amount of exams this doctor wanted me to have done, paying $140 more than twice. I was told I had glaucoma. I was only prescribed 2 eye drops and according to him my eye pressure was still high and immediately wanted to schedule surgery. I wasn't convinced and went for a second opinion. Come to find out I have no glaucoma and have a normal eye pressure. I found a doctor that actually listens doesn't rush me out of the office and even performed other exams that this office never did. It's so disappointing when you think you can trust a doctor and then it turns out to be the total opposite. Please be aware of this office, they over book to the point there's no parking, you'll be waiting for over an hour to two hours for your appointment. My new doctor I actually get seen at my scheduled time. Not 2 hours later. And these 5 star reviews a little sketchy. read more

I do not recommend this Dr. I was referred to Dr Levitt by my primary Dr for a second opinion on glaucoma. I spent over 3 hours in Dr Levitt's facility going through five tests unrelated to glaucoma. His one additional test for glaucoma was the same as my primary Dr's and both showed no evidence of glaucoma. I was billed $1,526 for these tests. He recommended that I return for two more tests. I was totally unsatisfied with his service and told him so. Total waste of my time and money. read more

I have glaucoma. DR. Levitt said I might require surgery for my one eye. He prescribed several different drops. I called to complain about a allergic reaction. Was told that was not possible. Received a call from his office with a date for surgery. This without knowing if the glaucoma drops had lowered my pressure. And differed from what I was told at my original appointment. Which was to see if the drops lowered my pressure prior to having to have surgery. I sought a second opinion. Today my pressure is 9 in one eye and 10 in the other. This is without surgery. Just different glaucoma drops. Dr. Levitt's office has sent me a letter and keeps calling to make another appointment. In a million years that will never happen. read more

When a problem arises, it's you who is wrong, not the staff and certainly not the doctor. Several appointments were given to me incorrectly. Went to Dr Levitt for an upper eyelid infection (after being assured by staff He treated same. What I got was an eye exam (even though I told them I'd had one just 4 months prior and was there for an upperlid infection). Dr. Levitt told me I had 20/20 vision and didn't know what my problem was. Again I reminded him I was there for an upper eyelid infection..he then referred me to a plastic surgeon friend of his Instead of treating me himself and had the nerve to request a follow-up visit! For what? He obviously doesn't listen to patients, lies about what he treats when you make your appointment only to discover, once there, he does eye exam and cataract surgery. Dr. Levitt performed cataract surgery on both eyes earlier this year. In the process, he corrected my vision to 20/20 using monovision -- right eye for distance, left eye for close work such as reading and computer. As a result I do not need any type of corrective lenses and I am very comfortable with the results. Having surgery on your eyes can be a nervous process. Dr Levitt and his staff are at the top of their profession, and definitely made me feel well cared for. WORST DR OFFICE EVER. HUGE breakdown between billing office and patient. Then they'll pass the blame to the patient. Be careful, years later you'll receive a $438 bill that you're responsible for and they will NOT work with you or return your phone calls. More concerned about a dollar than the actual patient. My issue with Dr. Levitt is his need to prescribe overly expensive brand name drugs when generic versions are readily available and able to do the job. I'm not sure if he does this out of greed to obtain consulting fees from large pharmaceutical companies or if he's been drinking the Kool-Aid from the pharma companies for too long and thinks they're indeed superior and warrant $60+ difference in co-pays at the pharmacy. This review isn't biased. Pharmaceutical companies are now obligated to disclose their payments to physicians and Dr. Levitt's name stands out far beyond those of his peers in what he earns on the side from the pharmaceutical companies. One might argue that is because he is a glaucoma specialist and therefore writes more prescriptions than the average ophthalmologist, but the two very respectable glaucoma specialists I've seen since last seeing Dr. Levitt have had brand name drug prescribing rates of 44%. Historical data on Dr. Levitt's consulting earnings indicate that this isn't an abnormal year for him. In 2011, he earned between $10,000-$20,000. In 2012, he earned $30,000-$40,000. In 2013, he earned $20,000-$30,000. He's a good surgeon, but be sure to ask about generic eye drops before you let him write a prescription for Combigan or Lumigan. From the moment I "interviewed" him to see if I felt comfortable, as eye surgery made me extremely nervous, I scheduled my surgery dates before even leaving the office. Dr. Levitt and Gabriella did not rush or pressure me into making any immediate decisions however; after discussing in length as to what can be expected pre-op, post-op, and my vision results, I was excited to be rid of cataracts and contacts. Mine is a simple complaint. I have an allergy, clearly noted on my chart. He prescribed an eye ointment containing that drug. My eyes were swollen after using it once. I then read all the contents of the ointment. Returning to his office he insisted that I had no reaction to the drug. He entered the exam room on my return visit with no concern; HE was correct. No, he was careless. I was in the waiting room 50 minutes for him to see me for less than 120 seconds. Sadly, the big M here may stand for money, not medicine. read more

I have been a regular patient of Dr. Levitt for over a year now, encompassing numerous visits during this period. Therefore, I have enough experience to provide a well-informed assessment of his capabilities as an Ophthalmologist. In my opinion, Dr. Levitt meets all the criteria required of a physician in his field. Firstly, he has excellent interpersonal skills, putting me at ease immediately and helping me relax in the examination chair. Secondly, he displays tremendous expertise in his field along with excellent communicative skills in explaining problems in a non-technical yet easily understandable manner. Thirdly, he shows tremendous patience and empathy in answering any questions I have, and I often have several questions relating to my eye problems and the proposed remedies - which is how it should be, since no one has greater concerns for my health than I have. Finally, although not directly related to Dr. Levitt, the staff in his front office as well as those in the examination rooms are uniformly pleasant, competent and professional in their approach, thus generating a high degree of confidence and trust in Dr. Levitt's entire practice. I drive almost an hour each way to-and-from his office, which itself speaks volumes about my trust and confidence in his abilities.
