This was making it difficult to keep the pool clear, which makes sense. But I had no idea the pump was shutting off. If he had called me to ask me about this, maybe we could have realized there was a malfunction or something else. And we could have fixed it. But instead, service was cancelled with no warning. And there was multiple weeks in a row without services, prior to informing me he had stop showing up. (I was out of town for 2 weeks, when he decided to stop showing up). So by the time I got his notification that service was cancelled, it was too late. The pool had started to turn green. Really really poor communication. Now I have to pay to have someone else de-green the pool in the middle of pool season. At least now I know the pool pump is broken, and hopefully I can find someone that is willing to fix it, instead of just passive aggressively "blaming" me for turning it off during the week, when that is simply not the case.

I called them out specifically to fix a hot tub leak that occurs only when attempting to fill the tub.The technician, John, failed to diagnose the issue properly. He did not fill the tub to locate the source of the leak, and he removed the front and rear panels while completely ignoring the panel on the side where the leak actually occurs. Furthermore, he replaced a valve and O-rings for $18.99 without explaining the repair or seeking my approval first. He then reassembled everything and left without testing if the issue was resolved.To make matters worse, my total bill was $269.37, which included a $149 trip fee that was never disclosed to me upfront before the appointment. After he left, I attempted to fill the hot tub, and it is still leaking in the exact same manner. I paid a premium price for a random, unauthorized repair that did not fix my actual problem. Have had Holiday Pools service my in-ground pool for years (20+). They were great for a long time -…read morefriendly pool cleaners, great service at a reasonable price. The last few years though... I don't know if the business changed hands and has new ownership, but it feels like it. The friendly, helpful pool guy we used to have was replaced by someone who's primary goal was, seemingly, to get in and out of there as quickly as possible. Corners were being cut and the level of service was falling, while the cost kept rising. Many times I wasn't sure that the guy had even come that week - there was no evidence of him having been there. I called the office about it and was told to call the service tech. I did and tried to have a conversation about what seemed to be happening. He immediately got very defensive and refused to speak to me. His boss got on the phone and started arguing with me about how they were actually doing the level of service they promised, despite the obvious reality. This animosity died down eventually and they continued to maintain our pool, and were actually doing a better job. The pool almost always looked pretty good despite the short weekly visits. The prices kept going up though, eventually reaching $160/mo for short, 10-minute weekly visits. They complained about the number of trees surrounding the pool but still managed to be in and out in under 15 minutes every time no matter what. Just this week we found a note on the door saying that Holiday Pools is breaking up with us as of the end of the month. No reason, just "call the owner if you have questions." I'm not going to bother. It's time for us to move on as well. Too bad... a great old Chico business slowly pricing and complaining itself out of existence.

Gave me some great tips on balancing the water and only sold me what I NEEDED and not stuff I didn't just to make a quick buck. Prices are better than other spots on town (of which there aren't many!). Definitely recommend this mom and pop pool shop over the big rip off stores (you know who I'm talking about!) Also to those reading this if you've also had a good experience leave them a good review here on yelp! No I don't get paid to say that. But the reviews really help small business like this and IMO the reviews don't reflect the service I got from Pete and Viking Pools.
