Jim is the most thorough and knowledgeable home inspector. His use of the thermal imaging camera is so helpful to see if a leak is active or just staining from a past water event. Since he knows how to repair everything, he can tell you if this is a super expensive fix or a fairly easy repair. I like that, otherwise buyers can get spooked by a home inspection. read more

I hired Perfection Inspection for a "check-up" inspection after living in my home for about 4 years. I'd changed out some appliances and fixed some issues from the original inspection, and noticed a few things over the last few years I wanted a professional opinion on all at once. Inspectors, in my opinion, are the absolute best for this, because they have a bit of experience with everything, but no incentive to scare you into into bigger and bigger maintenance/repair jobs. I couldn't be happier with my decision to hire them. From the moment I inquired about their services, Perfection Inspection was attentive and responsive in their communication. Jim was both professional and personable. After he arrived, he indulged me with some conversation about the home, his experiences with homeownership, my dog, etc. Jim is such a comfortable person to talk to that, before I knew it, I'd already wasted an hour of his time! Once his ear had been thoroughly talked off (not that he raised so much as a word of complaint) he was extremely efficient in his initial survey of the home. Within 45 minutes, he'd checked over the entire exterior and garage. He checked in with me and told me his findings so far, heard my concerns, and answered my questions. I was thrilled to notice that he'd paid extra attention to the concerns I had raised during our first conversation. This "efficient but thorough examination followed by check-in and Q&A" repeated 3 more times, once each for the interior, the attic, and the crawlspace. Not only did Jim find more than the original inspection or the initial building inspector did, he also took the time to make sure I understood the severity of the various issues and what options I could pursue for fixing them. He gave candid advice about what could be DIY'd, what should be hired out, and on what timeframes he'd recommend various jobs be done. Already, this would be easily worth the $450 I paid, but what has secured me as a "shout from the rooftops" advocate is the extra care Jim gave to my home. He spotted an issue with one of my windows and walked me through how to fix it then and there -- the kind of thing I've had on my to-do list for a year but just didn't know how to tackle. He was extremely respectful and careful of my belongings (and I'll be the first to admit my lack of tidiness -- there was much more of my junk laying around than there should be!) Finally, he was patient and kind to my overenthusiastic puppy, even checking with me about how to help keep the pup safe as he went in and out of the building. Hire this man. If you're a seller, have him check your property before you sell. If you're a buyer, rest easy knowing that if Jim misses something, it's probably not something you'll ever need to notice. read more

UPDATE: I'm happy to say I was able to work with Jim twice now, after his first inspection, I looked over his report and quickly saw the home had way too many patch jobs and disrepair that wasn't visable during a walk through. I wouldn't have been able to afford it long term. Recently he inspected the second home I was interested in. He was just as friendly, professional and thurough as before. I cannot recommend him enough. Do yourself a favor and hire this guy. He works HARD, and you can tell he really cares about his job, and his customers. Our kids purchased their first in Dallas Oregon July 2018, Jim from Perfection Inspection was very thorough and also took time out answer questions. We then hired Jim October 2018 to do an inspection on our new home we purchased in Dallas. Again took his time, was very thorough and answered questions. He even educated us on things. Jim Allhiser inspected a property we were hoping to purchase in Salem, OR. We have purchased nine homes previous to this one and have rarely been impressed with the inspection services for which we paid. Jim is a huge exception to this rule. He was thorough, engaging, and specific in his explanations about the issues he identified with the house. As a woman, buying a home alone for the first time, I was prepared to wade through lots of mumbo jumbo. He explained the importance of his findings without speaking down to me. Further, the report he created, which is easily accessible on line, included pictures and even links to laws, rules, and more information. The software he uses actually allowed me to create a list of requested repairs or replacements generated directly from his report. I can also make comments on any of the items. This was important because some items might have been acceptable to me, but would not pass the FHA appraisal. This feature allowed our realtor to communicate very clearly with the seller's realtor, including the importance of the needed improvements. I was also pleasantly surprised by the cost (a bit lower than some of the other estimates I got for the inspection). Normally I would grumpily say, "This inspection cost us $$$." This time around, I am saying this inspection and inspector may have saved us hundreds of thousands of dollars. I would recommend this company to anyone and will! Perfection Inspection is just not a clever business name but a business philosophy and approach to how Jim conducts his inspections. He has a genuine nose for potential problems and issues as on the day of the inspection, he was walking the property and caught a "whiff" of oil in the air and suspected a buried oil tank. Sure enough, the property had a buried tank containing oil and water on the property that the seller did not know about and agreed to take the appropriate action to remove / decommission the tank prior to COE.
