Full disclosure, I was previously a patient of Apria Healthcare which was a absolute nightmare. With that experience under my belt I'd say overall Performance Home Medical has been better on all fronts. But, both companies are absolutely horrendous around communications. They call and leave you aggressive voice messages then make it impossible to get a hold of someone when you call them back. I was on hold for almost two hours today (5/28/2026) trying to troubleshoot issue. Sharing screenshot of call for reference. My biggest complaint: they message you saying your insurance says it is time for new consumable supplies. You fill out the form. A few days later you get a message saying your insurance won't let them send you the stuff for a month. Then every few days they send you a status message saying you aren't eligible yet. Today someone from Billing left voicemail asking me to contact them to discuss my insurance and authorization. The person who called was not at their desk so I called the main number. The person who answered the phone said they were reaching out to see if I still wanted a CPAP even though, when they looked it up, there was a note in my file about my not wanting to to do business with them ever again. That person said they could not find today's call in my file. I explained, again, that I want nothing to do with them. The person said there was a note about that in my file but that they would make it a pop-up note. I still wonder whether that meant they don't actually read notes before placing calls. I requested that they not contact me again. Less than five minutes later I got another call, from the person who left the original voicemail. Although the voicemail message said it was about authorization/my order, she said she was calling because of my concerns and my review here. She agreed that my experience was as I described. Atrocious Customer Service, and not because they're not trying, but because their corporation has severely understaffed them for what they need to do. They are also underpaid, customer service reps make about $15 an hour. I'm looking into filing a complaint with the state commissioner of insurance and any other relevant state level agencies. They miss build my equipment to my insurance company, rather than workers compensation. I made five attempts to contact them about this issue, finally got through to a human being who told me it would be at least another month now to make the change. She told me that they were understaffed and they are processing 500+ prescriptions like this per month, with the staff of I think she said 10 people. Somehow has 2 charges for the same device (CPAP and Humidifier). After a medical session, was told I would be emailed the specs on sleep interruption, timings, etc. that I would want to achieve - this was never sent. Endless calls from them to refill device device peripherals. After 6 months, you've overpaid what you could have purchased the device online. I missed one payment; was turned over to collections after I returned my device. Some of this is on me - but I feel I let this business completely chisel me. read more

They sent me equipment I did not order, but when I followed their instructions and returned the package unopened they starting wasting my time by continuing to bill me for it, plus interest. This company only cares about making money, not at all about patient health. They were phoning me daily to sign paperwork for a cpap machine BEFORE I EVEN GOT SLEEP TEST RESULTS. That was red flag #1. Their customer service was obnoxious and repeatedly talked over me (red flag #2, during 2 different calls) so I resorting to yelling because apparently they were rude or couldn't hear. Once I got my test results, then I signed the paperwork. I was expecting someone to go over different options I could choose from. I warned the UW sleep doc when I first saw her that I can't wear anything on my head or it will cause migraines. Always. Can't wear sunglasses on top of my head or headbands, clips nothing. Doctor reassured me there were options that only touched my nose, no straps. Apparently PHM doesn't bother with looking at patient medical history or communicating coherently with patients. With no advance notice they shipped me some random cpap with tons of straps. Red flag#3! Like really?!? When I called PHM to complain and re explain migraines to them they insisted they could help me if I came in for a fitting. Now I'm more annoyed because I have to waste more time, money, & gas on a rare pain free day. Red flag#4 was lying about their capabilities. When I arrived they brought me back to a room and again I explained migraines. She showed me the masks they carry: NONE are nasal masks, all of them have straps. Why the f did they bring me in for a fitting when they KNEW NONE OF THEIR MASKS WERE WHAT I ASKED FOR?!? Can you guess how furious I am now?? The cherry was the UW sleep doctor's PA mansplaining straps to me, like I didn't already tell them many many times what kind I needed. He tried gaslighting me into "just trying something", when I KNOW MY BODY and its migraine triggers. I'm just so so tired of healthcare ppl who have no bedside manner!! PHM has continually missed up orders. They send orders early (before insurance will pay) and then bill you. In order not to pay for it, the boxes have to be returned. I've talked to 3 different people over the last several days and we agreed on when my items were available to ship. They shipped them anyway. Incompetence. Don't go with this company. I also had a defaulty CPAP machine that wouldn't heat air. It took them 3 months to replace it. Customer service isn't their number one priority. read more

Everytime I check-in about the Pap supplies I get a different story (insurance approval, different number to fax, just go to office and drop off prescription). Performance Home Medical is like a huge scam company that practices ill-faith business tactics to trick you to sign up with their medical PAP equipment, and you would end up paying more than what they initially quoted. They even sent me a letter confirming that they've verified with my insurance that I am only paying 15% (typical for in-network coverage) and when billing came in, my Healthcare Insurance said it's only 50% coverage and not 85%. They played games blaming the Health insurance company but they are the ones who sent the quote. Performance Home Medical kept telling me that they are not in control of how the Healthcare insurance will bill. Wow?? So they will send any type of co-pay coverage just for customers to sign up, fooling customers and not honor their quoted price??? I have been calling them almost every other week since November 2024 and it's now March 2025. I already returned the PAP Machine and they are still sending me a bill. What a huge malpractice!! And I am still waiting for my fucking refund. I ended up paying 50% co-pay. I also filed a complaint to the State Attourney General and State Commissioner Office. Charge for full CPAP starter pack initially, then get same at 3 months as recommended. It comes with 3 masks, diff sizes. 2 wont fit ...no use, but pay for. At 3 mo,another starter pack! 3 masks, but only one will fit same as before. These are expensive! Even after insurance, my 20% is still a lot. And each time two masks have to be tossed because they aren't my size. What a waste! I can understand the first time not being sure what size the patient needs. The staff at Everett was very nice. The quality of my Cpap sucks!!!! In a lil over a month my heated hose came apart with wires hanging out! Last night the strap for my nasal mask just fell out. This company is attempting to commit medicare fraud and should be reported by everyone who experiences their billing requirements. They contacted me by a no reply text sending 5 documents requiring I agree to pay monthly whatever they charge, even up to full amount of supplies, machine, rental and purchase. They admitted insurance approved to pay 80% and I would pay 20% but requiring a charge card/or check authorization prior to me receivding any service, no appointment and no supplies or machines for sleep apnea. You will see other reports state this company's priority is money - not providing medical service. Google medicare fraud reporting and report them. I intend to. Several days pass and I have no medical services and have to go back to my health care provider and medicare insurance to try and find a reputable provider. I was told that until I paid my bill, that I would not receive any new equipment. So, I returned their equipment, and 3 weeks later I received a package with new equipment? Although I had already returned their cpap machine. I had been billed from February of this year, but didn't receive any bill until August? Now they're charging me late fees for their mishap. This is in part a general comment about cpap machines and the process, then a more specific comment about Performance Home Medical. Cpap's don't end up working for many patients and it's a lengthy process before realizing this. In my case I stayed with it for many months and in the end have had better results using a snoring mouthguard and tape (ie, this has equally well eliminated snoring, with a good quality of sleep unlike the cpap and all of its adjustments, getting used to it, etc). The entire process is very opaque in the expense to you, from sleep study, sleep doctor appointments, equipment, coverage/reimbursement by insurance. I have a high deductible so all of the expense is understood from the start to be mine. But every step gave incorrect or vague answers about expense. The sleep doctor conveyed the cost would be ~$2500 for the machine itself. Performance Home Medical would not give any estimate early on, always indicating it depends on the insurance provider's reply, even though again there's no uncertainty - the high deductible means all of the expense is mine. Now a year later I received a final (unexpected) autopayment that shows the overall expense is actually 2x the sleep doctor's comments. Be wary, the overall equipment can cost $5-$7k depending on what type of cpap (bipap etc). For the first time this full cost was finally conveyed clearly to me when calling Performance Home Medial about why this year-later additional payment was drawn. Again, rather than at no point during the initial process of getting the equipment. It's hard not to view this overall process as deceptive, bordering on a scam. Keep your fingers crossed that it works for you and that your insurance will cover much of the high equipment expense. read more

Avoid if you can. I wish my doctor gave me the option before sending me to this company. I got a device from an inferior brand instead of what I was supposed to get without any prior notice but I gave it a try (that's the whole point of rent to buy) but I didn't like it and they refused to change it without doctor order!! and claimed it's because of insurance which was a lie (all my coworkers get the best brand with the same insurance). I had to return and change my DME and had to pay for first month which will at the end cost me $200 out of my pocket. Don't get fooled by all these replies to reviews, they don't really care and were super rude when I was complaining about my device and ask for a different brand.
