Once a year, when back in Iowa over the Summer, I always go to this restaurant and bakery once after a workout for my egg whites and breakfast potatoes. I love that you can make your own omelette and they do egg whites. Bring a vegetarian and that I don't do dairy, I'm limited to veggie omelettes so note the veggies available for omelette a here are limited but they are fresh and tasty. The omelette is delicious and I love the breakfast potatoes. They are prepared perfectly - crispy but not too crispy and definitely not too soft inside. Just perfect! read more

Absolutely terrible experience. It was Father's day, so we expected a bit of a wait. But, when we got inside there were quite a few tables that were open. It took about 10 minutes to even have someone ask how many people we had in our party and then another 5 to even get seated. Our waitress came over took our drink order and seemed like she would have rather been anywhere else except serving. We waited about an hour for our food and it came with terrible portions for the price we paid. Our waitress didn't once come over to see if we needed refills and then handed us our receipts when we got our food without saying anything to us. Overall, rude service and not a good experience. I get having a stressful shift but we were very respectful and nice and our waitress didn't once say hi bye thank you or smile. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

Family and I come here every year and generously tip. Usually the service is good. Went out for breakfast after the 4th and didn't have to wait much, but the server Dustilyn was very rude. The only time she spoke to us was when she asked what we wanted to drink and introduced herself. Never stopped to check up on us but brought out the receipt a couple minutes after brining out our food. She set the receipt on the table and walked away without saying a word to us. Gayle, Scott, and I took Rod for a Father's Day breakfast last Sunday. Apparently, a lot of people had the same idea, but the wait for our nice booth was only about 15 minutes. I understand that post-COVID (if we're really there - Iowa appears to think so) that restaurants are short staffed. However, based on the excellent service we received, you'd never know it. I wish I remember the waiter's name, because he was fabulous, energetic, and informative. That rubs off on family dynamic too, especially since we were already in a good mood. I hope he feels that we tipped accordingly. The food was a series of egg and omelet dishes, but at the same time we all ended up with pancakes. I think none of us had had these in a long time, that it was a special treat for all. All was delicious, and mostly ended up with clean plates. Yes, Perkin's is a chain and if you want a great "Mom and Pop" place the Grove Cafe (Downtown) is just a few minutes away, albeit in a much smaller space. What I continue to like about Perkins is that it has such a wide variety of offerings and you pretty much know what you're going to get most every time. Terrible service. Waitress took 10 minutes to take our initial drink order, another 10 for our food order, waited 30 minutes for our food, and then never saw her again. A couple in the booth next to us waited 25 minutes, never got their water, so they left. And no one seemed to notice or care. Restaurant was not super busy. My friend and I were feeling peckish so we stopped here as we were done shopping at Menard's. The waitress was nice and friendly. The ambiance of the restaurant was clean. While my food was delicious and fine, I will say that my friend did not enjoy his meal as much. He wanted a medium rare steak and it came out as well done. He also had some not so great experience prior at this same restaurant . So this dampened his mood even more. For that I took off 2 stars. read more

Stopped here with my son Mark because he was hungry. I give it 4 stars because he really liked the food. Me? Not so good. It's just another one of those chain restaurants that relies on it's reputation and that's not always a good thing. So it gets 2 stars for me. The BLT I had was so bad couldn't even finish it. Long waits to be seated as the host tells every single party "about 15 minutes." Then long waits for food. Flighty server presence for refills and such. And perhaps it's just me but not only have prices gone up in recent years but the food quality (at least breakfast items) seems to have declined. My hungry man's breakfast platter had rather unique mini-sausages and paper thin bacon. The place is casual, and the service is consistent. The patrons tend to be older or of college age. Expect a long wait and slower service on Sunday's after church--no surprise there. This place is definitely only getting four stars from me because of one person... her name was Karen and whatever Perkins pays her they should seriously give this lady a raise. I've never had better service than from that woman. The food here was definitely a two star but Karen definitely made up for it. There was six of us in here and she did a stellar job taking care of us. We ordered a few steaks and you could tell the cook had them sitting under a heat lamp.. seriously? We told Karen about it and the steaks came right back and had obviously just been cooked to perfection. I got the breakfast platter with the biscuits and gravy. Surprisingly the biscuits and gravy wasn't too bad but I don't think they can beat home cookin on that one! :) We all got decent portion sizes and everyone enjoyed their food for the most part. All in all, for where it's located, Perkins is a decent place to stop off at and grab some dinner after a nice day of fishing at the lake.. especially if you were like us and didn't catch anything worth keeping :( read more

Food was what you'd expect of Perkins but someone at our table got a very lipstick stained coffee mug. Not a huge deal but the waitress took the cup (no apology or comment) and asked if we were ready to order. She was politely asked if she could bring the clean mug first.
