The woman working, possibly the owner, was very friendly and was working to keep the place clean as I browsed. Parking is available in the shared lot right outside. While we waited for the bride and groom to enter the reception we sauntered over to the cookie table and grabbed a couple nibbles. Peanut butter cookies with chocolate on top, tiny little adorable nut rolls, vanilla Pizzelles, Russian tea cakes, pecan tarts, iced sugar cookies, heart cut out cookies with jam(?), coconut puffs drizzled with fine chocolate, apricot rolls, shortbread cookies with a little berry topping (raspberry Linzer, maybe?), and more were spread out before us! Everything tasted so amazing! Pecan tarts were perfectly nutty, yet soft and delicious. The Pizzelles were thin, crisp and amazingly yummy (I don't like Anise ones, and these vanilla were fantastic). The iced sugar cookies were melt-in-your-mouth perfection that I didn't want to end. My favorite, however, were the lady locks. These delicate treats are cream-filled wrapped pastries that are a little slice of heaven! And we weren't the only ones who thought that, as the lady locks were the first to disappear off the table. So now I am ruined. All other cookies just don't stack up to Linda's wonderful creations! We traveled a little over 3 hours to get to the wedding. Lindaz Little Bakery is no where close to where we live. How can I even look at store bought cookies after this? (gasp!) What will I tell my mum!? (panicked) I have no poker face! My favorite cookie is an orange frosted cookie, and this one is the second best one I have had, again a light cookie with just the right amount of flavor, with a smoith frosting. The donut was of the cake variety, again a light texture well balanced with flavor, not drenched in sugar to cover up a low quality product. Lemon gob and cinnamon roll were also above average. Linda is a gifted baker, who gets up every morning at 3 a.m to get her fresh products ready. So support a small local business and treat yourself! Buttercream icing tasted delicious however it was too thick and looked like it was used to fill where the top tier was slanted equaling too much icing and not enough cake. The cake tasted good but not great because the texture was too airy, very crumbly, and lacked some in flavor. Overall my opinion is that it tasted better than some cakes made from a box and even some grocery store cakes but it left a lot to be desired as bakery cake made from scratch. Additionally, I ordered a dozen mixed berry scones. These scones did not taste as good as the scones I ordered from Whisk a couple years ago. I nuked them to soften and warm but unfortunately the mixed berries were hardly tasted or seen and a flour type taste overwhelmed my palate.

The strong pungent aroma was a deceitful invitation to its mildly salty cheesy taste on buttered toast. I had looked for it in the past to no avail, and it had been a long time since I had reminisced about it." He went on to say that his wife surprised him with bread bought from here, and that clinched the deal for me. I promptly ordered two loaves which arrived perfectly packaged a few days later. One went into the freezer while we sliced the other for toast slathered in butter and honey. Mmmmm. Driving to PA from NC is impractical, however, from time to time I'll place an order for salt-rising bread. Well worth the money for a quality-infused trip down memory lane. If you know, you know. This iconic bakery has been a staple of the city for generations, and after recently celebrating its 90th anniversary, it's easy to see why people keep coming back. What makes Gus's so special isn't just the famous cream sticks (although they absolutely live up to the hype). It's a family-run business that has become part of the fabric of the community, and there's something special about supporting a local institution that has been serving customers with pride for nearly a century. Beyond the cream sticks, they offer cakes, cookies, pastries, and just about every sweet treat you could hope to find in a hometown bakery. On a previous visit, we did run into a small issue when a few of our cream sticks were missing that signature filling. I gave them a call, and instead of excuses, I was met with genuine kindness and a sincere desire to make it right. On our next visit, they more than delivered, and the experience reminded me why customer service still matters. Gus's Goodies is one of those places I'll always make time for whenever I'm back in Weirton. Thank you for the continued hospitality, wonderful service, and for making the city just a little sweeter with every cream stick. Pepperoni Rolls were first created in Marion County in the 1920's by Italian immigrant coal miner, Giuseppe "Joseph" Argiro when he decided it would be more convenient if the pepperoni were baked inside a soft, white, italian bread.
