In this establishment's defense, they're struggling with staff shortages but there was a lot more going on + my family and I were just passing through. We did a takeout order. They gave my mom the wrong thing even though when we called it the staff member repeated back what she wanted. I was given a dump truck load of fries with my grilled cheese. The pork chops one of my family memberordered were good though. My family member who went in to pick up the food said it was practically wall-to-wall people WITHOUT masks on and the staff weren't either. Also according to my family member, there was a sign inside begging people to not come in if they have COVID. Now that's just what my family member said, I don't have any proof of it. read more

I called in a take-out order for 2 honey mustard chicken crunch salads, 1 chicken strips dinner and 2 children's meals. After picking up the order and opening it the meals were all fine except for the 2 chicken crunch salads. My wife had a side salad with her chicken strips and it was twice the size of the 2 complete dinner salads. There was maybe a tablespoon of chicken and little lettuce. I have had these salads many times and these were greatly lacking. I called the restaurant and got the manager Heather on the phone. When I explained the problem she said they were "pre-measured and had 3 chicken strips in each of them". I asked what can be done and her response was "nothing". I drove back to the restaurant and took the 2 unacceptable meals in and showed them to her. She then said "how can I take care of this?' I asked for a refund and ordered 2 chicken strip salads from the Pony Bar and Grill and they were less expensive and too large to eat in one sitting. Disappointed - it is Sunday it is busy- but after telling our server Jolene about the problem with our food being cold she. asked a nearby table and they said the same thing about their food being cold. Jolene offed each table a dessert to compensate for the issue- then came back and told us the management said "no", since no one else was complaining. Sad day won't be back. read more

We stopped into Perkins in Sheridan, Wyoming twice, on our way to and from Rapid City, South Dakota. Both times we were treated to great food, very reasonable prices, and excellent service! On the way out, we stopped in for breakfast after driving through the night. We were going to just grab something from the Wendy's across the street, but their lobby was inexplicably closed and not one person there even bothered to respond to us when we attempted to ask what the deal was...so we went to Perkins instead. Turns out that was the right move. The food came quickly and our server was absolutely wonderful...she was on top of things! On our way back home, we stopped in again. This time our server was a young man who was definitely hustling to take care of several tables, which was compounded by the fact that the restaurant was training up a new cook. While the food didn't come as quickly or correctly the second time, it was definitely not the server's fault. Between him and the manager working together, they made it right. Besides, when you're training someone new, that person is going to need time to become an expert in their field, and so I personally don't feel like it warrants a lost star because again, they made it right. They work hard, and that goes a long way...it is greatly appreciated! Many, many thanks to Perkins staff for a very pleasant experience on both legs of our trip! We'll be stopping there again the next time we find ourselves headed to South Dakota or other points east! read more

Shannon was fantastic! After a long day on the road, all we were looking for was a hot meal to keep us moving along. Not only did we get a good hot meal, we got it with superior service. When we walked in, our 11 year old son made a joke about playing tic tac toe on the kids menu. Shannon overheard and greeted our table with a pen and a pad and challenged him to a game. I'm from out of town and only had a 40 min interaction with staff at breakfast; but, everyone (staff) was smiling, courteous and professional. The food was brought quick and was delicious. I dined with my family at about 830 this morning. It was so nice to be greeted with friendly smiles. Not to mention, I was greeted promptly and we were seated quickly.. The absolutely worse meal I've ever had from any restaurant. The Pot roast stroganoff was so horrible I could pick up the entire entree with my fork. It looked like it was microwaved and had been stored since the previous day. The server was quick to return it and bring out a replacement, but it was cold and the noodles were dry, not much pot roast, hardly any mushrooms, and more sour cream had to be brought out. I ordered my breakfast with toast. Traditionally toast isn't buttered much so I asked for it to just be buttered to the edges. I received the toast and it was about 20% covered with butter. I asked for some more that was buttered and it was about a centimeter thick. I am not sure how hard it is to butter toast. The dishes had some green food residue around the edges. My family had eggs with shells in them. Another person at the table had some green vegetable in their pancakes. Another person at our table had a course meal. Their breakfast came in three separate times. I advise against eating here. Taco Bell and McDonalds will at least give you consistency. Upon further review, I strongly advise against here. We came through Sheridan on a family vacation that was a Wish trip for our terminally ill, 17 yr old son. Shannon was our server and what a blessing he was! He was attentive and talkative and a truly caring soul. When he discovered that we had just been to Mount Rushmore, he showed us his watch from there, that he had for many years....when he realized the reason for our trip, he gave his watch to our son. I wasn't the only one holding back tears. An unforgettable experience and we are so grateful for the memory. Plus, the food was perfect! Awful service. Waited for over an hour for food. They then said they were going to "comp" our meal and "take care of it" and they still ended up charging us 15$. I was a server /manager for many years.. so I understand when things go wrong, it happens. But I get upset when the managing staff doesn't step up and overly make up for a poor dining experience. Perkin's is one of those restaurants that's been around forever and mostly survives on the lack of competition in town. Service and food are hit and miss depending on who's working at any given time. Wait staff has a bad habit of standing around and talking, not working, especially if there are too many teenagers working any one shift. When the servers are all adults (over 25), service is usually pretty good. Sadly, some days the food is absolutely excellent ..... other days it's crap. And you never know what your'e going to get until the food arrives. My last dining experience was an omelet that was supposed to come with ham, mushrooms, mixed vegetable blend (celery, onion, peppers), and cheese. They managed to get most of the filling IN the omelet, but a lot of it was just scattered all over the plate. There was NO cheese to speak of except in one big glob in the middle of the omelet. The rest of it was pretty dry and tasteless. And, in true Perkin's fashion, we had eaten there just two evenings earlier and had absolutely EXCELLENT food. So, really, you never know. read more

We have eaten here a few times over the years. This last time was a big disappointment. But kudos to the management when they refunded the price of my meal for the lousy sandwich they delivered to me. I ordered a corned beef sandwich which was to have cheese, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing on rye bread. The sandwich had an ok amount of corned beef on half the sandwich, the other half barely had a slice. It sort of all went to one side. I had hoped for twice the amount of meat that came with it. I opened it up. Is there any cheese on here? It was hard to tell but I think what little there was had sort of melted and vanished into the sandwich. There was almost no sauerkraut. There also was no thousand island dressing. So I asked our waitress for more sauerkraut and some thousand island dressing. Being hungry I started to eat the better half. After waiting a good while my kraut and dressing had not arrived. I had finished the first half without what I really wanted in it. Finally the kraut arrived and they had cooked it on the grill-so that was good, but way too late. I put together the second half and by now my appetite was pretty much ruined. I basically ate a one slice corned beef sandwich with ample sauerkraut and dressing. mmm, mmm, mgmgmgmg.... Remember, we eat first with our eyes and my eyes saw a skimpy, lousy sandwich to start off. I was quite happy though when the management responded to my kind complaint as I was paying my bill and as I said before, they took off the price of the sandwich. The main chef also came out and seemed to agree with me that they messed up this order as I explained to them what I had desired. This is actually one of the first times ever that the management did the right thing in my opinion. I really appreciated their decision to refund and they helped to make better a meal gone way wrong. I mention all this not to beat up on the restaurant but more to be a lesson in point both positive and negative. I am one that has never refused a meal. If the meal is passable I will eat it and often leave but never go back. I will go back to Perkins and even this one because of what they did here. Almost every waiter/waitress asks how your meal is and at check out we are almost always asked how our meal was as well. We often say it was good when it was barely passable in order to not get into a discussion about what was wrong. I assume restaurants know this but I am saying it here to alert people who don't know this or don't seem to know this. For every person that said they weren't happy with their meal expect there to be at least 5 more that said nothing even though they weren't happy. Maybe the number is more. Who knows? I just know that 2 out of 10 times I will say something. We think that people in larger groups especially don't want to be the one person that complains and ruins the occasion. Doubly so if someone else pays. When I have complained about a truly bad meal in the past I often get this: "Oh? What was wrong?.........Well I am sorry that you were unhappy with your meal. I will say something to the chef." But the all time winner response was this one: "We are so sorry that you were unhappy with your meal. I will never go back to another perkins. This is twice now i have gone into perkins and waited 45 mins for my breakfast and still did not receive it. Not only here in sheridan wy, but in rapid city sd. I don't know what happened to perkins but they sure have gone downhill over the years as far as service goes. My wife had a French dip. It was OK. My oldest son had the trout. It was the only meal that I would say was better than average. The bill for four of us was $60. Only the kids had drinks.
